Antonio Henton, the AJC's player of the year for the 2005 season, will transfer from Ohio State to Georgia Southern and be immediately eligible for the 2008 season, a source close to the process has told the Journal-Constitution.

The official announcement of Henton's transfer is expected to be made on Monday.

Antonio Henton was Ohio State's third-team quarterback and fourth-leading rusher last season.

Henton, a native of Fort Valley, is a redshirt sophomore who was competing for the No. 2 position behind starter Todd Boeckman, who led the Buckeyes to the BCS championship game in 2007. Ohio State also signed quarterback Tyrelle Pryor, the nation's No.1 high school prospect, in February.

Henton is the second quarterback to transfer from Ohio State since Pryor signed. In January Rob Schoenhoft left for Delaware.

Henton, who led Peach County to a state AAA championship in 2005, sat out the 2006 season at Ohio State as a redshirt. He played in only three games as a backup in 2007.

Henton had to overcome some legal problems last September after being arrested in a prostitution sting in Columbus, Ohio. He later pled to a misdemeanor of loitering for prostitution and returned to the team.

Henton is currently in summer school at Ohio State and will report to Georgia Southern in time for preseason practice. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Henton, a dual threat as a quarterback, will compete with Lee Chapple and Kyle Collins for the quarterback position at Georgia Southern. Chapple, from Norcross (Greater Atlanta Christian), was named the No. 1 quarterback by coach Chris Hatcher after spring practice.
