The Ultimate Fighting Championship is coming to Atlanta and bringing with it a marquee matchup.

The mixed martial arts competition will be at Philips Arena on Sept. 6 for UFC 88 with a light heavyweight battle between Chuck Liddell and Rashad Evans.

The matchup between Liddell, the former champion, and Evans, who is undefeated, was to take place a year ago on the UFC 85 card in London. But Liddell tore a hamstring and was forced to withdraw.

Other bouts on the card will be announced later.

Tickets go on sale at noon Sunday, priced at $600, $400, $250, $150 and $75. They will be available at the Philips Arena box office, ticketmaster.com or by phone at 404-249-6400. UFC Fight Club members can purchase tickets starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday via www.ufc.com. To access the presale, users must register at the Web site.

"Obviously, Atlanta is a huge market for us," UFC president Dana White said Tuesday. "We've wanted to come to Atlanta for a long time and it finally worked out for us.

"And we are going to come with a big bang. Obviously, Atlanta is important to us because we are bringing Chuck Liddell and he is a real superstar."

Liddell and Evans will be in Atlanta on Tuesday. They will sign autographs at Lenox Square from 4-8 p.m.

Liddell (21-5) is attempting to regain his world title, currently held by Quinton Jackson. Also known as Iceman, Liddell has appeared in several movies, television shows and music videos. He most recently appeared as himself in an episode of HBO's "Entourage."

Evans (16-0-1) won the heavyweight division in the second season of the reality television show "The Ultimate Fighter," which was produced by Spike TV and the UFC. He has since dropped to his natural weight class at 205 pounds.

"I'm honored to fight Chuck. It's good to fight someone who has been where you want to be," Evans said in a statement. "This is going to be a tough fight, though. I know someone is gonna be finished and I think it'll be Chuck."
