The Slipstream Chipotle cycling team beat the heat and two other hot contenders to win the team time trials stage of the 2008 Tour de Georgia held at Road Atlanta this afternoon.

With name of their injured teammate (Tim Duggan) attached to their seat posts, the California-based team won the stage with a time of 19 minutes, 36.86 seconds in four laps of the 2.54-mile track. Astana was second and High Road was third. The top three teams were within less than six seconds apart.

In team time trials, teams race together against the clock, with each rider adding that time to his individual overall time.

Slipstream's Duggan, who was injured in a high-speed crash during Stage 3 on Wednesday, was doing well today and expected to be released from an Athens hospital. He suffered broken left collarbone and broken left shoulder blade in the crash, during which his helmet was cracked in half. He was held overnight for observation because of the blow to the helmet.

The track temperature reached 102.5 degrees by mid-afternoon.

Third-stage individual leader Greg Henderson (High Road) held onto the individual lead, thanks to his team's finish.
