Par 4, 465 yards • Description: Lengthened by 60 yards in 2002 with trees added on the left to prevent shortcuts. Famous finishing hole went from relative pushover to punishing, playing uphill and feeling more like 500 yards. Uphill drive of 335 yards, preferably shaped left-to-right, is needed to carry larger fairway bunker complex. Getting to the top tier with second shot on Sunday is paramount. • History: In 1988, Sandy Lyle's 7-iron from the fairway bunker turned into a winning birdie putt. In 1998, Mark O'Meara sank a 20-footer for birdie to earn a green jacket at age 41. In 1961's rain-delayed finish, Gary Player got up-and-down from the greenside bunker for the victory, by one shot, when Arnold Palmer double-bogeyed from the bunker. |
