Georgia Tech was well represented by Miller Grove in the Class AAAA state semifinals Wednesday night at Gwinnett Arena.
Tech Basketball signee Mfon Udofia led all scorers with 32 points, and Tech football signee Stephen Hill added 15 points — 14 on dunks — to lead the Wolverines to an 83-69 victory against Richmond Academy (28-4).
Miller Grove (26-3) will face Region 6-AAAA nemesis Tucker in the final at 4:45 p.m. Friday. The Wolverines beat Tucker twice during the regular season.
“Tucker is really a big rival for us,” Udofia said. “We’re really going to have to be ready to go.”
Miller Grove took the lead for good, 18-17, on Joe Caldwell’s layup at the end of the first quarter. The Wolverines went into overdrive in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 26-19 early in the period after a 3-point play by Caldwell. A 20-5 run to end the half gave Grove a 46-29 lead.
After Hill opened the second half with a windmill one-handed dunk, Richmond Academy began to chip away at the deficit. Richmond got to within two points midway through the fourth quarter, but another windmill dunk by Hill capped a quick 6-2 run that put Miller Grove ahead 67-61 and sealed the outcome.
