Macon — Despite staying close for most of the third and all of the fourth quarter, No. 3 Wilkinson County never could overtake No. 4 Turner County, which got 19 points from Demetrius Ewing to help beat the Warriors 52-50.

Wilkinson County cut a 10-point second-half deficit to as little as 1 but couldn't quite catch the Rebels. The Warriors (26-6) used a 9-0 run late in the third quarter to get within 1 at 35-34, but Turner County (28-4) made just enough shots down the stretch to keep them at bay.

The biggest of those shots may have come from Ewing, who hit a layup close to the 1:00 mark that put Turner County back up 49-45, and the Warriors would never again get closer than that until a too-little-too-late lay-in at the final buzzer.

Turner County's Tray Pearce augmented Ewing's 19 with 16 of his own. Milton Whipple and Tony McCrae led a balanced Wilkinson County scoring attack with 10 apiece.
