Usually, you don't have to leave the county to see Wesleyan play Buford. On Saturday, however, you'll have to go to the Forum in Rome.

That's where the Gwinnett rivals with the same nickname — Wolves — will meet in the Class AA quarterfinals.

Wesleyan's bid for a fourth state championship in five years is alive and well. Wesleyan got 18 points from Anne Marie Armstrong and earned a Class AA semifinal berth with a 71-50 rout of Model in Rome Wednesday.

With the victory, and the ouster of defending state champion Greater Atlanta Christian by Coosa, coach Jan Azar's team will be among the favorites in the next round.

Erin Hall added 15 points as Wesleyan improved to 15-3.

Buford advanced by defeating Rutland 42-35 in Macon.

Buford got 20 points and 13 rebounds from Blanche Alverson in its victory. Brianna Bailey scored 13 to lead Rutland. Buford is 0-3 against Wesleyan, most recently losing 53-30 in a Region 6-AA Tournament first-round game Feb. 15.
