Chick-fil-A Bowl

Ga. Tech beats LSU in eating contest

Yellow Jackets wolf down 610 pounds of meat in 90 minutes

It appears Georgia Tech is hungrier for a win than LSU, at least when it comes to eating meat.

In one of several unofficial pre-bowl competitions leading to the Chick-fil-A bowl, players from Georgia Tech showed a healthy appetite. At Fire of Brazil steakhouse in Buckhead, the Jackets wolfed down 610 pounds of meat in 90 minutes, out-eating LSU’s team, which ate 575 pounds.

As the two teams participated in pre-bowl events this week, the bowl committee has been kept tabs on unofficial competitions. In every contest except a game show, the players were unaware that their stats were being kept.

Tech showed an athletic edge in pop-a-shot basketball. Jackets backup quarterback Calvin Booker scored 147, dominating Jordan Jefferson, LSU’s possible quarterback for the bowl game, who scored 111.

LSU slurped 231 milkshakes in 75 minutes, edging Tech by 24.

They also outdid the Jackets in a ‘Family Feud’ style game show that pitted two teams from each school in two rounds— four offensive players and a coach vs. four defensive players and a coach — against each other. LSU beat Tech 373 to 317.

Through Tuesday, the bowl series is tied 2 -2. Wednesday will be the tiebreaker.
