Georgia Tech going bowling, but where?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Georgia Tech is going to a bowl for the 12th consecutive year, which will tie Georgia for the fourth-longest active streak.
At this point, the 7-2 Yellow Jackets could land in any of the nine bowls connected to the ACC. Tech is 22-14 all-time in bowls.

Dominique Reese and Georgia Tech are headed to their 12th straight bowl game.
Here’s a look at possible scenarios, in order of the bowls’ selection order:
1. FedEx Orange Bowl
Miami, Jan. 1, 8:30 p.m. (FOX) vs. BCS
This is automatic if three things happen: Tech defeats North Carolina on Saturday and Miami on Nov. 20 to finish 6-2 in the ACC, and Virginia and Virginia Tech each lose one more conference game (they play each other on Nov. 29). That sends the Jackets to Tampa for the Dec. 6 ACC Championship Game, where they beat Maryland, Florida State or Wake Forest to earn the automatic BCS berth.
2. Chick-fil-A Bowl
Atlanta, Dec. 31, 7:30 p.m. (ESPN) vs. SEC
The Jackets finish 9-3 but fail to reach the ACC title game. Like the Gator and Champs Sports bowls, the Chick-fil-A is not required to take the ACC runner-up.
Choosing the Jackets might reduce the game’s economic impact because fewer hotel rooms will be needed, but Atlanta Sports Council president Gary Stokan said a bigger priority is “having the two best teams we can have.”
Stokan said he’d talk to athletics director Dan Radakovich and coach Paul Johnson about whether Tech would rather travel.
“This is about an experience for the kids, a reward for them,” Stokan said. “If they felt as a team they’d want to make a trip somewhere, we’d understand that. But from our perspective, we’d love to have ‘em.”
Tech’s last appearance came in 2000, a 28-14 loss to LSU.
3. Konica Minolta Gator Bowl
Jacksonville, Jan. 1, 1 p.m. (CBS) vs. Big East/Big 12/Notre Dame
Tech went to the Gator two years ago, losing 38-35 to West Virginia, but bowl president Rick Catlett said that wouldn’t discourage officials from choosing the Jackets again. He noted it was Tech’s first appearance since 1998-99.
Gator Bowl representatives have scouted Tech already, and they’ll be at the Jackets’ next two games.
While Gator Bowl officials say they are very interested in Tech, they said they probably wouldn’t select the Jackets if they lose in the ACC title game.
“We have seen that those fan bases are usually disappointed [and won’t travel back to Florida],” Catlett said.
4. Champs Sports Bowl
Orlando, Dec. 27, 4:30 p.m. (ESPN) vs. Big Ten
Tech’s last appearance came in 2004, when the Jackets blasted Syracuse 51-14.
5-7. Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl-a
Meineke Car Care Bowl-b
Emerald Bowl-c
a-Nashville, Dec. 31, 3:30 p.m. (ESPN) vs. SEC
b-Charlotte, Dec. 27, 1 p.m. (ESPN) vs. Big East
c-San Francisco, Dec. 27, 8 p.m. (ESPN), vs. Pac-10
After the Champs Sports makes its choice, these three submit their preferences. If the bowls and teams involved agree on their choices, the invitations stand. If not, the selection order goes Music City, Meineke Car Care, Emerald. The ACC runner-up cannot fall further than the Music City.
8. Roady’s Humanitarian Bowl
Boise, Dec. 30, 4:30 p.m. (ESPN) vs. WAC
After losing to Fresno State 40-28 in Boise last year, the Jackets probably wouldn’t be excited about returning.
9. EagleBank Bowl
Washington, D.C., Dec. 20, 11 a.m. (ESPN) vs. Navy
Tech would have to lose its last three games to fall this far. Organizers wouldn’t mind seeing coach Paul Johnson matched against his old team.
