Greensboro, Ga. — New Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson won't have to wait until the football season for his first competition against a rival coach from the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Johnson will be paired with Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer as coaches and celebrity alumni try to win scholarship money for their schools in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Alma Mater at Reynolds Plantation on Tuesday.

Thirteen teams are competing on the golf course for a $350,000 purse, including $100,000 to the scholarship funds of the winning team's school.

Each coach will play with a celebrity alumnus. Jon Barry and Dell Curry will join Johnson and Beamer, respectively.

New Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez is playing with Alabama's Nick Saban. South Carolina's Steve Spurrier is paired with Colorado's Bill McCartney, and UCLA's Rick Neuheisel is paired with Jeff Jagodzinski of Boston College.

Former Georgia basketball coach Tubby Smith of Minnesota will compete in a pairing with Jim Grobe of Wake Forest.

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville's celebrity partner is former Auburn quarterback and current Samford coach Pat Sullivan. Ken Stabler is Saban's celebrity partner.

"We are humbled to be able to showcase these schools in an event like this and proud that so much scholarship money will be headed back to the participating universities," said Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan.

The competition will be televised by CBS on Christmas Day.

Beamer and Curry won the event last year for Virginia Tech. Their $100,000 first prize was donated to families of the victims of last year's massacre on the Virginia Tech campus.
