Indianapolis — Georgia and Georgia Tech will have 13 players participating at the NFL scouting combine this week.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford is considered the top quarterback in the class and potentially the No. 1 pick in April’s NFL draft.
However, like the top quarterbacks in recent drafts — Matt Ryan in 2008 and JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn in 2007 — Stafford does not plan to throw for the NFL executives and scouts at the combine.
Stafford will throw for NFL scouts on his pro day, which is set for March 19 in Athens.
Georgia Tech’s pro day is set for March 9.
The list of Georgia Tech players includes: Defensive end Michael Johnson, cornerback Jahi Word-Daniels, tackle Andrew Gardner, defensive tackle Vance Walker and defensive lineman Darryl Richard.
The list of Georgia players, in addition to Stafford, include: fullback Brannan Southerland, defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, defensive end Jarius Wynn, cornerback Asher Allen, wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe and running back Knowshon Moreno.
Local talent
Several local players can use the combine to move up or solidify their draft positions.
Tech’s Johnson enters the combine with a second-round grade according to NFLDraftScout.com, but could move up. He will have to explain some of his uneven play to team scouts during interviews.
Here’s how other local players will enter the combine and what round they are projecting to be taken in, according to NFLDraftScout.com:
Stafford (first round), Johnson (second), Moreno (first), Oklahoma offensive guard Duke Robinson of Washington High (second), South Carolina tight end Jared Cook of North Gwinnett High (second/third), Massaquoi (second/third), Allen (third), Clemson running back James Davis of Douglass High (fourth), Walker (fourth), Irvin (fourth/fifth), Ellerbe (fourth/fifth), South Carolina wide receiver Kenny McKinley of South Cobb High (fourth/fifth) and Southerland (seventh/free agent).
Milloy switches agent
Falcons safety Lawyer Milloy, who was previously represented by Carl Poston, has switched to Atlanta-based agent Todd France of France Athletes Management Enterprises (F.A.M.E.)
Milloy becomes a free agent on Feb. 27. The Falcons are negotiating to retain Milloy.
