Earlier, Falcons officials would not confirm that Jackson had a meeting scheduled with head coach Mike Smith and general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Jackson would help one of the team's apparent weaknesses, the defensive front. For mini-camp and offseason workouts, Jonathan Babineaux and Montavious Stanley lined up at the top defensive tackle spots.

Jackson played for the Falcons in 2006 and 2007, before being released after the team got off to a 1-6 start last season.

Jackson signed with Jacksonville, where Smith was the defensive coordinator.

THE GRADY JACKSON TIME LINE

Aug. 26, 2006: Jackson signs a three-year contract with the Falcons. He starts all 16 games lseason and helps the team improve from 26th against the run (128.9 yards per game) in 2005 to ninth (103.6). He leads the NFL in tackles for loss with 13 and is the only projected starter on the defensive line to play in all games.

March 26, 2007: After the season, Jackson files a lawsuit against the franchise for invasion of privacy and defamation over the alleged released of his medical records.

June 26, 2007: Jackson's attorney Eric Farber, of San Francisco, announces that the lawsuit against the Falcons had been "resolved."

Oct. 23, 2007: Under new coach Bobby Petrino, the bye-week surprise release of veteran nose tackle Grady Jackson does not go over well. When told Petrino said it is a football decision, talkative cornerback DeAngelo Hall says, "If that's the case, they need to cut about 52 [players], they can cut me, too, they can cut all 53 of us. . . . to single out Grady is asinine. It's ridiculous."

Oct. 30, 2007: Jackson doesn't stay unemployed long. He signs a one-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars and helps the Jaguars reach the AFC Championship game.

July 25, 2008: Jackson meets with Falcons coach Mike Smith and general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Smith was the defensive coordinator in Jacksonville last season, where Jackson finished the season.
