Weather limits Falcons' workouts

Flowery Branch — Mother Nature must not have appreciated the Falcons practicing on Mother's Day.

Saturated practice fields from overnight down pours forced the team inside its indoor facility for a cramped morning session, at which fans had to be denied entry. Then heavy winds limited any passing plans for throws beyond 20 yards at the afternoon sessions, which was fairly well attended by fans.

"I knew it was windy but I watched Ernie Els, in the wind, knock it about a foot from the pin on (hole) 17 at TPC today so I just said that's what a professional does," Falcons quarterback Chris Redman said, referring to Sunday's final round of the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. "Right before I walked onto the field I was watching and that was about as hard as it gets, to knock a golf ball that close on an island green.

"I just said to myself, 'Well, it's really windy but I better go out there and throw it.' "

Turner: It's on the running backs

Starting tailback Michael Turner has drawn solid reviews for his low-centered running style and bursts of speed when he gets to the second level of the defense. He said not to worry about the team's quarterback play.

Just give the ball to him, Jerious Norwood and the other running backs and the pressure will be off.

"The running back room knows it's on them this year," said Turner, who signed a six-year, $34.5 million contract. "We're going to take care of the quarterback, whoever the starting quarterback may be."

Injury update

Wide receiver Brian Finneran, who is trying to come back after missing the past two seasons with torn ligaments in his right knee, did not take part in the morning practice Sunday after missing the Saturday evening practice. Finneran did go through the evening workout.

Final day today

The Falcons will rap up their five-practice minicamp with a closed session Monday morning. Following this camp, the team will begin offseason training activities (OTAs) for the next month.

Home cooking

After years of staying away from University of Georgia players, the Falcons' minicamp roster is stocked with Bulldogs: QB D.J. Shockley, WR A.J. Bryant, RB Thomas Brown, LB Tony Taylor, DE Brandon Miller and TE Martrez Milner.

Georgia Tech also is represented: LB Keith Brooking, S Jamal Lewis and TE George Cooper.
