Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin, the top prospect from the state of Georgia in the 2008 NFL draft, spent the weekend visiting the Falcons.

McKelvin came to town Thursday, had meetings set for Friday and was to participate in a workout Saturday. The Falcons traded their top cornerback, DeAngelo Hall, and must address the position during the draft, April 26-27 in New York.

A lot. Can't get enough of that stuff.

"I feel like I am the best corner in the draft," McKelvin said. "I feel like I belong in the top 10. Not just with me being the top corner, but the top return specialist."

McKelvin, of Waycross and Ware County High, is projected to go in the top 10 picks. Atlanta has the No. 3 pick in the draft. McKelvin would make sense for the Falcons only in a scenario where they trade out of the No. 3 position.

Kansas City has the fifth pick and Baltimore has the eighth pick. Both might be interested in the Falcons' pick to secure Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan.

"He has great awareness and anticipation in coverage," ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper said. "He will tackle. He's got excellent return skills. I think for New Orleans [10th pick in the draft] or Buffalo [11th] he would make an awful lot of sense."

McKelvin said he ended up at Troy after Georgia and Georgia Tech backed off recruiting him because of his grades.

"I'm glad Troy University was there for me," McKelvin said.

1. Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy: The latest elite NFL prospect from Troy, which has sent defensive standouts DeMarcus Ware (2005) and Osi Umenyiora (2003), to Dallas and the New York Giants, respectively. McKelvin is a great punt and kickoff returner, too.

2. Philip Wheeler, LB, Georgia Tech: Is rated as the sixth-best inside linebacker in the draft by NFLDraftScout.com and the fourth best by Sporting News. Played both inside and outside in college and showed some sack potential.

3. Harry Douglas, WR, Louisville: "You wish he was a little bit bigger," Kiper said of the Jonesboro High product. "He's tall enough, but you wish you could put some weight on him. But he's got great natural pass receiving skills."

4. Darrell Robertson, DE, Georgia Tech: In the second group of defensive ends, who should go somewhere in the fourth round. Teams like his athleticism.

5. Dexter Jackson, WR, Appalachian State: The star of the Mountaineers' victory over Michigan. The former Dunwoody High standout has ideal speed and size to flourish as a slot receiver.

6. Tashard Choice, RB, Georgia Tech: Runs extremely hard between the tackles, and teams can't ignore his productivity. Sporting News has him rated as the ninth-best running back in the draft.

7. Gary Guyton, LB, Georgia Tech: Had a strong combine workout. Played weakside at Tech, but there are questions about his speed at the pro level. Some think he could be the best prospect of the top three Georgia Tech defenders in the draft.

8. Marcus Howard, LB, Georgia: Late bloomer who terrorized the SEC with 10.5 sacks as a senior at defensive end. Not big enough to play defensive end in the NFL and projects as a rush outside linebacker for a team playing a 3-4 defense.

9. Curtis Johnson, DE/LB, Clark Atlanta: "Curtis is going to be a really good linebacker or a rush end for third-down situations," Clark Atlanta coach Ted Bahhur said. "I'm excited about this because he's going to get drafted. It's really putting our school on the map."

10. Wesley Woodyard, LB, Kentucky: "He's a fast, tough and instinctive kid," Kiper said of the LaGrange High grad. "Not real big, but he played bigger than he is on paper, and he'll hit you."

Some other Georgia players to watch: Chester Adams, T, Georgia; Durant Brooks, P, Georgia Tech; Thomas Brown, RB, Georgia; Brandon Coutu, PK, Georgia; Mike Cox, FB, Georgia Tech; Marcus Dixon, DE, Hampton (Rome and Pepperell High); Andre Fluellen, DT, Florida State (Cartersville High); Mikey Henderson, WR, Georgia; Kelin Johnson, S, Georgia; Jamal Lewis, S, Georgia Tech; Kregg Lumpkin, RB, Georgia; Adamm Oliver, DE, Georgia Tech; Fernando Velasco, C, Georgia.
