A look at the top players available when the NFL free-agent signing period begins Friday. We've included the chances the player could sign with the Falcons in bold.
• 1. Alan Faneca: The guard started 153 of 158 games for Pittsburgh. Arizona, with former Steelers coaches Russ Grimm and Ken Whisenhunt, is the likely destination. No chance
|
• 2. Asante Samuel: The former New England cornerback is expected to get the biggest deal. He could join Nate Clements in the $80-million club. No chance
• 3. Randy Moss: After a record-breaking season, the wide receiver is expected to stay in New England. Patriots don't want to pay market price for Moss. No chance
• 4. Michael Turner: Powerful running back played behind LaDainian Tomlinson in San Diego. He could start for most teams. Good chance
• 5. Bernard Berrian: Fleet wide receiver from Chicago has shown flashes, despite an undependable quarterback. Has big-play potential. No chance
• 6. Julius Jones: A hard runner who shared time with Marion Barber in Dallas. Now will get a chance to carry a full load. Good chance
• 7. Lance Briggs: The outside linebacker from Chicago wants Brian Urlacher money. He likely will get it. No chance
• 8. Gibril Wilson: The former N.Y. Giants safety is a good tackler with very good range. He had four interceptions last year. Good chance
• 9. Alge Crumpler: The tight end flashed some signs of the old Crumpler in the season finale. If healthy, he could come back to haunt the Falcons. No chance
• 10. Madieu Williams: Safety from Cincinnati has the cover skills of a cornerback. An intelligent defender with ability to call defensive signals. Good chance
Other top free agents: Donte Stallworth, WR (New England); Antwan Odom, DE (Tennessee); Clark Haggins, LB (Indianapolis); Justin Smith, DE (Cincinnati); Calvin Pace, LB (Arizona)
