Hall repeats: He's done with losing team

Flowery Branch — Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall said he would consider demanding a trade or holding out of the first 10 games of next season if the team did not extend his contract or make personnel moves - including the hiring of a coach - that didn't point to improvement.

"I will not be a part of another losing team for another year," Hall said. "I've got to do what I've got to do. No matter who hates me ... The tough thing about coming back without a contract extension is injuries happen. Our legs are our money. They're your bread and butter. My game is about speed, quickness. If I hurt a leg, knee, my stock drops tremendously. I go to being just another guy. It would be tough for me to step out on the field knowing what I would have on the line."

Hall, who made two straight Pro Bowl appearances before getting snubbed this season, one in which he has five interceptions, has one year remaining on his contract.

He had brief extension talks with the Falcons before this season, but those were quelled after his relationship with former coach Bobby Petrino got off to a frosty start last summer and both parties decided to play out the year to see if they wanted to tolerate each other for another season.

Hall said that after his on-field and sideline outburst during a loss against Carolina Sept. 23 and his blistering of the team for cutting nose tackle Grady Jackson, he and Petrino reached an agreement that after the season, he would be traded if that was deemed the best solution.

"It just ended prematurely so we didn't get to figure out what the best situation was for that," Hall said, regarding Petrino's resignation last week, with three games left in the season. "I can't go through overhauling. I can't go through that again."

Hall said he does not want to be traded. At the same time, he is hoping that team owner Arthur Blank hires a coach that has some rapport with players and is committed for the long term. He said he does not want another dictator-type, like Petrino.

"When we met with Arthur Blank [after Petrino resigned] the biggest thing we said was it would be nice to have some kind of input if we're going to be with the guy 24-7 from training camp to when the season is over," Hall said.

Blank said that he plans to hire a general manager who would then hire a head coach. He is in the process of that without the counsel of president Rich McKay, whose four-year tenure as general manager will end once his replacement is hired.

"I can't take this again," Hall said. "I don't want to be the highest paid cornerback in the league and losing every game. Money only gets you so much happiness. If Atlanta offered me X amount of money and another team offered me Y but I had a better chance to win, we'd have to figure something out.

"Money ain't everything."
