Chicago — Josh Anderson was optioned to Richmond and Brandon Jones brought to the major-league club, a curious swap of rookie outfielders that surprised some Braves.

"I was a little shocked," said Anderson, who went 7-for-22 (.318) a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases in 11 games. "It's disappointing. ... But you've just got to deal with it. The best thing for me is to have a good attitude when I go back to Richmond, like I did in the spring."

Asked about Anderson being sent down, manager Bobby Cox said the Braves wanted to have the option of using Jones in left field and letting Greg Norton play some first base so Mark Teixeira could DH some during next week's interleague games.

That didn't, however, seem to explain why Anderson, who has played center field and left field for the Braves, would be replaced by Jones. At Richmond, Jones was hitting .263 with two homers and 25 RBIs in 54 games.

One possibility: Braves could be showcasing Brandon Jones for a team with trade interest.
