Griffin's Beckham selected No. 1 in MLB DraftFSU's Posey, UGA's Beckham also selected in top 10

Griffin High shortstop Tim Beckham was selected No. 1 by Tampa Bay in today's Major League Baseball's first-year player draft.
MLB commissioner Bud Selig announced the choice during ESPN2's live coverage of the first round.
Beckham is rated the top high school prospect in this year's draft by Baseball America.
He hit .472 this season for Griffin and hit .677 in the playoffs for the Class AAAA state runner-up to Loganville.
FSU catcher Buster Posey was selected fifth by the Giants.
Posey, from Leesburg, is hitting .468 with 24 homers and 86 RBI this season.
Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham was selected eighth by the White Sox.
Beckham, a Westminster grad, is hitting .397 with 24 home runs 65 RBI this season. He's stolen 17 bases in 18 attempts.
Georgia plays N.C. State on Friday in a NCAA super regional. The winner will advance to the College World Series.
Stephens County's Ethan Martin was selected 15th by the Dodgers. Martin, a 6-2, 195-pound pitcher/third baseman, will likely be a pitcher.
He has three pitches that he can throw for strikes, and his fastball was clocked in the mid-90s this season. He went 9-3 with a 1.50 ERA last season. He struck out 151 batters in 84 innings.
Georgia closer Josh Fields was selected 20th by the Mariners. Fields had 16 saves with a 2.27 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 31 2/3 innings pitched. Fields was drafted in the second round by the Braves last year, but didn't sign and returned to Georgia.
Fields is the seventh player in Georgia history to be selected in the first round of the June draft.
