Braves starter Jo-Jo Reyes had to leave Thursday's start against the Padres with what appeared to be a blister, and Buddy Carlyle, who relieved Reyes, had to leave after a collision.

Reyes was making his second start since being called on to replace John Smoltz in the rotation. He made it 2 2/3 innings and 51 pitches before leaving the game behind 2-1.

More on the Braves

Reyes was not at his sharpest, allowing five hits and two walks with one strikeout. The runs he allowed came on a two-run double by Kevin Kouzmanoff in the first inning. He left after issuing a walk to Khalil Greene in the third inning.

Carlyle relieved him and retired Justin Huber on three pitches to strand two runners.

Carlyle faced only six batters in relief of Reyes before he had to leave the game with an injury as well. Carlyle collided with Kevin Kouzmanoff, tagging him out after fielding his swinging bunt up the first base line.

Kouzmanoff's knee hit Carlyle up near his shoulder, and once Carlyle felt the full effects of the blow, he crumpled forward onto the turf after recording the out. Carlyle went two innings, allowing one run on one hit.

Carlyle was diagnosed with a muscle strain in the left side of his neck and is listed day to day.
