The Braves placed Martin Prado on the 15-day disabled list Monday with a severely sprained thumb, and they expect the utility infielder to be sidelined at least six to eight weeks.
Prado was diagnosed with a "grade 1-2" sprain of his left thumb and had his hand put in a cast. He was injured on a head-first slide into first base during Sunday's win against Cincinnati, when his hand smashed into the base.

Prado's injury leaves the Braves with Ruben Gotay as their only backup middle infielder. They could recall Brent Lillibridge from Class AAA, or go with Gotay unless there's another injury.
Also Monday, the Braves moved relief pitcher Peter Moylan from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL. He's expected to have season-ending elbow surgery.
