reitsma No. 37
CHRIS REITSMA

Relief pitcher

• Age: 27
• Bats/Throws: R/R
• Stat corner: Set franchise record with 84 relief appearances in 2004, tied for fourth in majors. His 31 "holds" tied St. Louis' Ray King for second in NL.
• Career highlight: "The [2001] game when Randy Johnson struck out 20 and gave up one run in nine innings against us. I went eight innings and struck out two, and we won. Something I'll never forget."

smoltz No. 29
JOHN SMOLTZ

Starting pitcher

• Age: 37
• Bats/Throws: R/R
• Stat corner: He's the all-time postseason leader in wins (14-4) and strikeouts (189 in 200 innings). Among active pitchers, he's sixth in strikeouts (2,398), eighth in ERA (3.27), and 10th in innings (2,699 2/3) and complete games (47).
• Career highlight: It wasn't his 24-win Cy Young Award season or NL-record 55 saves in 2002. "Jumping on the pile in '95 and '96 beats everything," he said. "Just being part of that. I'd do anything to do it again."

sosa No. 34
JORGE SOSA

• Bats/Throws: S/R
• Stat corner: After starting the season 30-for-60 with runners in scoring position, he was 17-for-79 the rest of the way to finish fifth in the NL (.338).
• Career highlight: "Clinching the division last year. Not a personal achievement, but as far as I'm concerned my biggest achievement so far is just being able to come up and play at this level, to solidify a spot and prove some people wrong."

mccann No. 16
BRIAN McCANN

• Age: 21
• Bats/Throws: L/R
• Stat corner: Called up from AA Mississippi in June. A 2002 graduate of Duluth (Ga.) High.

• Stat corner: The former top prospect is a .279 career hitter in the minors with 59 homers in eight seasons and almost as many errors (201) as walks (230).
• Career highlight: "My first [major league] hit. I've got that ball at home in the Dominican." Called up from AAA Richmond on May 8, Betemit made his first big league start at shortstop that night vs. Houston and got his first hit off Roy Oswalt.

This will be his 21st major league season, one behind active leader Roger Clemens.
• Career highlight: "The 1990 All-Star Game, when I was MVP. My mom was there, so it was very emotional, very special. I had a double and drove in two runs."
