Report: Georgia not only SEC program Bob Knight is interested in

Nick Saban and Bob Knight coaching at the same school? Yikes.

Apparently, another one of Knight’s friends spoke to Mobile-Press Register columnist Paul Finebaum about the General’s interest in the vacant Alabama coaching position.

We’re guessing it’s the same friend that spoke to the AJC’s Furman Bisher, who first reported Knight was interested in, and would accept if offered, the Georgia position.

According to Finebaum’s Tuesday column, Knight has been investigating the vacant position at Alabama since Mark Gottfried departed early last week. Knight has even gone to the extent of looking at game tapes, recruiting commitments and the Tide’s roster.

Has he done the same for Georgia? If so, is he still interested in coaching the Dogs?

Either way, it appears Knight will be back on the sidelines soon. Whether or not he lands in Athens is still to be determined.

If you had to bet right now, will Bobby Knight be the next head basketball coach at Georgia?

NO. He is doing this merely for his ego. In a couple of years, the team would be looking for a new coach again. Not a good choice for either school.

So let me get this straight: Two teams fired their coaches last week, the only teams in major NCAA b-ball to do so, and Knight is interested in both of them? If there was ever any doubt that Knight wants to coach to increase his own legacy, as opposed to believing a particular job is a “good fit” for him, it is quickly evaporating.

If he is really interested then i don’t think we will do any better. My only hope is that his heart is really in the chance to coach at UGA.

Damon Evans should hire Knight immediately. Georgia Basketball is not on anyone’s radar. The publicity Knight would generate is worth the risk. The school is primed to go crazy for basketball. The younger generation and the current students are basketball- type kids. The older generation at Georgia will probably nix the hire because their biggest fear is basketball taking the spotlight from football. Bobby Knight would immediately be the most recognizable figure at Georgia and Mark Richt would have to take a back seat. Maybe Knight could bring in Parcells to consult with Richt and teach him how a well-coached football team should look and act.

I’d rather they get Hugh Durham than Knight! Come on, are you serious with this whole Bobby Knight thing? I’d never, not in a million years, let him near one of my boys — even though he is a proven winner. Too Machiavellian for me, you don’t have to feared do you? A despot? There are plenty of good, proven coaches out there, that will “play nice” with Admin, Players, Staff, and don’t need their egos stroked. If anything, Knight has proven that he “wears out his welcome” and fast!
