How would Haynesworth fit with Falcons?

How would Tennessee tackle Albert Haynesworth look in the middle of the Falcons’ defense?

According to a Nashville City Paper report, Haynesworth is not happy with the pace of contract talks with the Titans.

Haynesworth can become a free agent on Feb. 27.

If the two sides can’t work out an extension, Haynesworth, a former Tennessee Volunteer, has said he would like stay close to his Knoxville home.

That makes Atlanta and Carolina possibilities.

Of all the potential free agents the Falcons could acquire, where would you rank Haynesworth? It would have to be near the top, right?

Haynesworth recorded a career-high 8.5 sacks this season and is headed to the Pro Bowl for a second straight season.

2, next to Nnamdi Asomugha. Personally I feel that biggest need is a DT, (even though I have a corner ranked #1, just because Nnamdi is ridiculously amazing) unless the Falcons move to a 3-4 scheme and move Anderson to DT. Then our biggest need would be another linebacker to round out a solid group of Lofton, Boley and Wire (Brooking can move on). Or we can even keep Anderson at DE and get Haynesworth to play in the middle. If we stay as a 4-3, which I am presuming we do, then Haynesworth will be a very, very nice addition to our team.

Keep up the good work TD and Smitty. GO FALCONS!!

Of course I love Albert Haynesworth’s(AH) talent but $13 million/year and $30+ million guaranteed is steep for a defender that is getting cut-blocked every game.

I don’t see Thomas Dimitroff “breaking the bank” for AH. Dimitroff was always talking about “the Patriot Way” of doing things and a CAP-BUSTING deal like what is would take to sign Haynesworth does not seem very “Patriotic”…..

I would say the shutdown cornerback from Oakland (I won’t even try to spell his name) should be our co-top target along with Haynesworth. Terrell Suggs would also be in the conversation for me too

Haynesworth has been a great talent for two years well he was in contracts, but he has played for 6 or 7 years and only has 24.5 sacks with 15 coming in those two years. He may have turned the corner but he is not worth the money at any point, I would rather see a bunch of above average players than a few superstars. We tried that with Coleman, Aberaham, Kerney and Hall. We lost the most consistant and havent one anything with that.

On top of that we have 1 outside backer on the D in Nicholas. We wont bring Boley back Wire and Brooking are average at best, so we need to find some guys to fill in their and the true outside backers in the draft arent very deep.

HAYNESWORTH is beyond numbers. He is consistently double-teamed and STILL MAKES PLAYS. D-tackles don’t become dominant until their 3rd or 4th yr anyways and thats when he’s really turned it on. he is absolutely worth the money. As a falcons fan that lives in nashville i’m telling you the guy is a game-changer. Having a guy like him in the middle might make jamaal anderson worth that 1st rd pick and turn ABRAHAM into a COMPLETE MONSTER. the guy should have won defensive player of the year b/c his impact on the titans D was mar greater than harrison on the steelers. harrison has polamalu, that nasty d line, and woodley working around him. Haynesworth was the sole reason the titans were the last undefeated team in the league. The falcons would guarantee another playoff berth with him wreaking havoc on the qb and would mask the god-awfulness of our secondary. He should be the falcons #1 priority just like Turner was last yr. We upgraded our Offense, just need a Defense to match and it starts and ends with the aquisition of the best defensive tackle in the NFL. I emplore Arthur Blank to sign him if given the chance.

Like i said taking either peppers or haynesworth will set the tone for US COME DRAFT day period THEN INSTEAD OF wasting a pick on DT IN THE 1ROUND WE CAN focus more at LB WITH THAT FIRST PICK BRIAN CUSHING USC OR JAMES LAURINAITIS OHIO STATE MY SECOND PICK SEAN SMITH UTAH HE can play SAFETY or CB but i will play him at safety with coleman he will be a beast IN THE NFL and my 3 round pick asher allen CB FROM GEORGIA A GOOD PICK FOR THIRD ROUND WHO IF WOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE NFL WOULD HAVE WENT IN THE FIRST ROUND NEXT YEAR IN the DRAFT we need defense defense and more defense. GO FALCONS!!!!!!!!!!

Give me Nnamdi Asomugha instead of Haynesworth. Haynesworth has those questionable character issues that don’t lend themselves well to living up to big contracts. Asomugha would go from the outhouse to the penthouse. He’d have every incentive to play hard and earn his cash. Since the Falcons couldn’t cover this year (and the CB draft crop isn’t great), Asomugha would be a great signing.

Bring him home Dimitroff!!!

It would be great to sign such a great player at such a glaring need so that we can use our first rounder on an OLB which is going to be another huge need, especially if we cut Brooking and/or don’t resign Boley.

Here’s to another successful offseason! Go Falcons!!

Haynesworth would be a Godsend ! LISTEN …. WE NEED TO STOP THE RUN !!! If we improve the D line, and … Sorry … Keith’s too slow… Gotta go! Draft a OLB to replace him. Finally …When Vick gets out of jail, send him anywhere that will take him for a D Lineman or linebacker. ——— Add those 3 or 4 players and we go to the Super Bowl. We’re closer than most people think !

What about signing both Asomugha and AH? Obviusly is a joke, but i think it’ll be a huge upgrade in every case if we can bring home one of those two big talents. CB and DT are our biggest needs. I think we should fix those position one via free-agency and the other spending our first draft pick next april. In both position there are many good players with high chances to become immediatly impact players.

The key to a great defense in the NFL is a great defensive line. A cover corner is overrated. The key is a pass rush. Nobody can cover receivers like Larry Fitzgerald, so we must improve up front and Haynesworth would be a great place to start.

Until we spend the money and bring in top shelf free agents we will not be taken seriously around the league. The defense I feel should get our first attention. Haynesworth did have an ugly run in with a player a few years ago but he seems to have his stuff together now and I want a D line with ATTITUDE! We need to get pressure on the QB. Then the DB from Oakland would be even better. But while we’re dreaming let’s get Peppers as well and hope Roddy White learns how to fight for the ball like Anquan Bolden and Larry Fitzgerald! It could happen… GO FALCONS!!!

Haynesworth would be a coup, no doubt. If we release Brooking (what are we waiting on????), that would open up the $$$s to get the deal done. Then use our 1st round pick for the best OLB available, hopefully a big run stopper, which would allow Boley to move back to his natural position (WLB) where he can excel as one of the best pass-defending linebackers in football.

Haynesworth is too expensive. He would be an excellent addition, but not worth all that cap space considering how many holes we need to fill. Remember, we’ve got big money tied up in Anderson and Vick, neither of whom play for us (sorry, Jamal). If he were THAT valuable to Tennessee than the negotiations wouldn’t be stalled. Remember, the no-name who filled in for him when he was hurt looked pretty good too. AH may be more of a product of coaching and scheme. That said, I’d love to see him on our line. Just not at the expense of the rest of the team.

How would Haynesworth fit with Falcons?

REAL NICE! One big money impact FA per year. Follow the Patriots blueprint and you will not go wrong.

It makes J. Anderson, The Predator and any other lineman we have on Defense better when you plug in Haynesworth at DT to stop the run.

The Falcons are building a team with players of high (or at least not poor) character. As good as he is, I have serious reservations about someone who would stomp on another player’s exposed head. The last thing we need is another distraction…

Not jumping to conclusions, but that domestic dispute call to Turner’s house last season really upset me as a fan. I love the guy, and I don’t want to see him blow it. Again, there was no evidence HE did anything wrong, but it’s always a bad sign when the cops are being called to your house. Also, his Grandmother passed away that week, whom he was close to, so I’m sure he was pretty stressed.

Bottom line, don’t get someone who will get our hopes up and then knock them down with bad behavior that makes us look bad.

Haynesworth would be agreat fit for the Falcons, they need a bit time DT, & he’s a good enough pass rusher to take some of the pressure off of Abraham. One of the biggest things the Falcons need is a nother pass rusher at DT or DE to make plays when teams double Abes.

depends on the money and the years but… YES PLEASE!

Asomugha too. They are better than anyone they would find at those positions in this draft and it would free them up to go ahead and release Brooking as this is a draft deep with linebackers.

It just remains to be seen if the money is feasable.

The talent is there it just remains to be seen if the money and the scheme fit is there. We’ll see. I trust them to get it right however they go.

Haynesworth is a great talent, but he isn’t worth the baggage or the asking price. I think we should spend our money somewhere else. We have Jamaal Anderson. He is only 23. Lets try and move him to defensive tackle and keep Grady for one more season. I want another OLB too, but not at the expense of cutting Keith Brooking. I think people are forgetting what Keith has done for this organization and the Atlanta area. He is a five time pro bowler. I understand he made a horrible play against Arizona, but that was only one play. One play doesn’t decide a game. He is a great leader and an even better person. You don’t just cut a guy like Keith. Just like you don’t cut a Chipper Jones. He has one year left. Let him play it out and retire with class and dignity.

Albert Haynesworth is the best defensive lineman in the league in my opinion. Sacks are a very superficial measure of how good a lineman is. Haynesworth’s impact against the run and the pass is something no other lineman in the league can match, and he would fit in well in any scheme. The Titans would have to be crazy to let him go.

Keith Brooking is as good as gone. If you are a real FAN of the team, you would put aside your idol worship of Brooking and see that the time has come to part ways. I have been saying it way before the Arizona play. He makes too much money, doesn’t make enough plays, is too slow, and has been the LEADER of a sorry defense for too long. This team needs to get better at LB and DL. If TD feels like Haynesworth would help, I say bring him here. If he likes Nhamdi, I say bring him home. I said back in April 2007, that JA had BUST written all over him. We could have had LB Patrick Willis or Reggie Nelson FS from Florida with DE Charles Johnson from Georgia in the second round. We get JA and Chris Houston. Two years later we still need a DE, a FS, a LB, and a CB. Please tell me why Rich McKay still has a job again?

It’s too much money for him, you can sign another free agent and it’s a lot of very good young DT’s coming out in this draft class. I think he will get very lazy going into the second or third year of a contract! Move Jamal Anderson inside or make him slim down, he is too slow to be a DE. We need Linebackers, a safety and move Move Chris Houston to Nickel back since Von Hutchins in coming back strong this year and resign Foxworth!

It would be nice to pick up Haynesworth or Asomugha. I would go with the latter. The thing that many seem to forget though is the fact that ATL cant really afford either of the two right now. TD already said they’d add “MID-LEVEL” free agents so dont expect a big splash. We’re not rebuilding anymore, just retooling. :)

There are several things at play in this off season. One ,there are so many FA this offseason.Everybody not going to get that great payday. Two ,the draft and again strong at the LB slot.Three ,sad to say the trade for Vick (in reference to the Falcons. Do we spend big on any one of the top 10 FA this offseason? Or wait for the initial big spending and try to get more for our money ?Hayneworth,JPeppers,NAsomugha are all top 10 FA AND WILL COST.In Baltimore RLewis,TSuggs,BScott ;not to mention safety DLandry and lineman JBrown(top center).Several somebodies willnot return to this team.Or will be forced to give a hometown discount. Lastly noone mentioned Sean Jones or Jermaine Phillips. Both upgrades at safety and Georgia alumnus. Go Falcons

The falcons will get a mid level pick or 2 for Mike Vick, they would like to just move on as I am sure for Mike as well. The draft is the way to retool for less money and you can develop players to fit your system, Bart Scott, Ray Lewis and Terrel Suggs fit a system and they won’t be productive as they are now in B town, look at the Ed Hartwell failure….stayed hurt and just never fit into the defense, Ravens are built to blitz and play 3 4 scemes which the falcons don’t do often.

He is the type of DT a defense can be built around. He is the entire package. He would bring the toughness and swagger the Falcon defense sorely needs. Hayensworth brings the pain. I think everyone may be doing a lot of wishful thinking when it comes to Haynesworth. Tenn knows the value of AH and when all is said and done I think Tenn will pony up to the bar and give him what he wants.
He would be great to have on the D line but you can’t break the bank at the expense of the rest of the team. Asomugha would be great to have too, but I’m sure Al Davis will dig into his Swiss bank account just to keep him even for just one more year. Peppers want’s to play in a 3-4 which the Falcons don’t use so you can count him out as well. Suggs may be the best bet for his worth.

    Imagine this…

Abraham…Haynesworth…and Peppers all on the same line. Peppers has also said he wants out of carolina…and i see him going to another NFC South Team (ATL?????). That would be something…but right now…it’s just a dream.

I know we’ve tried bringing in the stars b4…which is why i dont think we should just chase defensive players through Free Agency. We need to get some young talent in here. Houston and Foxworth are decent corners at best…but they’d look alot better next season with a defensive line like that.

Brooking…must go. Boley…should be resigned. Curtis Lofton is a solid young talent at MLB. WE DESPERATELY NEED A SAFETY!!!! Coleman is mediocore at best…and milloy’s best days are behind him.

You can point the finger anywhere…the falcons need help on defense. I dont think one offseason can put our defense to superbowl caliber. But SIGNING HAYNESWORTH and PEPPERS WOULD PUT US PRETTY DaM closeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee……………..

We just need a Linebacker a Offensive Lineman and a Defensive Tackle. We actually have depth, we just need one more starter.

Hey guys here’s the deal, Haynesworth would be a great addition, but Trey Lewis will be returning from injury, we can do without AH, who will cost just to much. Thomas Decoud (3rd Rd Pick Free Safety last Year, special team ace) has good speed and is a big hitter, will eventually replace milloy. Though Brian Cushing won’t be available to us, his teammate Clay Matthews Jr. will, take him 1st round, Sign Brooking for veteran minimum, and allow OLB Stephen Nichol, OLB Clay Matthews Jr. to replace him by game 5 or 6. Same deal with FS Decoud and Lawyer Milloy. Now, you have great Depth, with a very solid offense, which will get a good Tight End in the 2nd rd.

Playing next to a pass rushing DE like JAbraham would make Haynesworth twice as effective. Both players demand double teams, but which one do you double? In order to contain both players, a team would have to keep the TE and a RB in on pass protection. That would reduce the QB’s receiving options by 2.

A front 4 of DE’s-JAbraham & JAnderson/CDavis/ KBeirmann and DT’s-TLewis & AHaynesworth would be awsome. That would allow SS LMalloy to play off the line of scrimmage and be a better pass defender. Add an ALLPRO calibur CB like Asomugha and we have a dominant, shutdown DEF. Our top draft pick can be a TE and we can go after a LB with our 2nd pick. Even without CB Asomugha, acquiring Haynesworth can change everything. He immediately improves our run and pass DEF and makes it much more difficult for teams to double DE JAbraham, which makes him more effective.

With Haynesworth, the Falcons could end up with a dominant DEF and OFF.

Thugs make great defensive tackles. A DT has to be mean and nasty to succeed in the NFL (National Felon League). Atlanta can get better without AH but he sure will help. Show him the money and he will play. I hope he does not sign with Carolina and we have to face him twice a year. But actually he makes such a difference on the Titan’s defense I think they will resign him. If so we need to go after cornerback Aso%*!&0#a.Or whatever his name is. Good luck Falcons!

Wow, amazing. People they arent going to sign Haynsworth or Asomugha. Not enough money and again, Dmitroff=Patriots, look how that team (NE) was built. Trades (Moss, Welker), Draft, (Brady, Maroney, Seymour, Mayo, Kevin Faulk), under the radar FA’s, (Vrabel, Sammy Morris, Harrison). The “giant” FA signing for them over the past few years was Adalius Thomas (LB) & I’m sure they aren’t super happy how that has turned out. Dmitroff & Smith will fill holes, but it won’t be like teh cowboys (losers) & redskins (losers) or any other team that just signs big names for big money. They will make smart decisions. Falcons fans should feel good, this franchise is heading to the top.

AH would make a great addition to the team but would break the bank. Trey Lewis will be back for the comming year and he played well before his injury. Team Louis with a 1st round DT pick and it would help the entire D. Also a top TE would help the passing game and run game, thus helping the O control the ball and keep the D off the field.

Forgive me if I miss rememeber, but…. Wasnt it Albert that a few years back, that stomped a guys face when his helmet came off and he was on the ground, causeing the un-named player to get stiches. I would worry about character, I personally believe if Albert or who ever did this should have gone to jail and been kicked out of football forever!!! He is a great talent I agree, he is one of the best at dt, but a monster piece of crap as a person “if i remember correctly”

Mars, remember a guy named Mel Blount? Remember a saftey named Donnie Shell? Blount was one of the best of all time and the Hall of famer. Shell had 51 career picks. Mike Wagner was also on that team. So, yes I do rememeber DB’s from the steel curtain.

Couple of guys have hit on a key point. Thomas is not going to go all out in the FA to acquire talent. Turner last year showed he’s willing to make some major signings but I would prefer if we focus on building up through the draft, while staying well under the cap. By staying under the cap and properly building up through the draft, we can have money to sign guys after consistently productive seasons, and ultimately create dynasty style continuity needed to have a chance at a super bowl for many years to come
