Greatest Super Bowl ever?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Pittsburgh franchise cemented its stature as one the best in by capturing a record-setting sixth Super Bowl with its win 27-23 Sunday over the Arizona Cardinals in Tampa.
But does Super Bowl XLIII’s fourth quarter hold up to the legends of past games?
Does it hold up to the N.Y. Giants’ Eli Manning’s escape and the miracle catch of David Tyree to slay the previously unbeaten Patriots in Super Bowl XLII?
Or the Titans’ miraculous comeback in Super Bowl XXXIV that fell a half-yard against Kurt Warner and the St. Louis Rams?
Or even Joe Montana’s engineered 92-yard drive that clinched Super Bowl XXIII for the San Francisco 49ers?
Can you think of others? Or was this Super Bowl THE best you recall? Period.

Other than the god awful halftime show, it was right up there with last years thrilling game. It really has been a great decade of super bowls.

Why does no one ever talk about Super Bowl XXV?
It was the ONLY Super Bowl to be played without a penalty or a turnover, from either team.
It is the closest final score in Super Bowl history, 20-19.
And, unlike the two Patriots kicks (XXXVI and XXXVIII), or the Colts kick from Super Bowl V, it was the only time in Super Bowl history that the kick was win or lose.
Those other kicks, if missed, would have resulted in overtime. The Titans-Rams Super Bowl, the TD wouldn’t have won the game for the Titans, only tied it.
Super Bowl XXV is the only time a Super Bowl ended on a win or lose proposition like that.
Super Bowl XXV is by far the greatest Super Bowl ever played.
Not even close.

With all of those facts, you are right, Super Bowl XXV should br ranked as the greatest. I am just glad the STEELER NATION is in full effect and we pulled off a fabulous win!! The coach said it best, the Steelers game is 60 minutes. I ain’t over till it’s over!! Now the real question is: did Cardinals make a huge mistake by scoring so soon rather than killing more time off the clock.

Absolutely the best Super Bowl ever. Every kid in my neighborhood practiced the Santonio Holmes catch hundreds of times growing up. And then it happened with 35 seconds left in the Super Bowl. Living la vida Sixburgh!

This is at least the 2nd best one I’ve seen, along with the Titans-Rams Super Bowl in the Georgia Dome.

As a lifelong Steeler fan growing up and a current Falcon season ticket holder, the answer to the question is obvious. Yes it the greatest Super Bowl ever. 2 of the most evenly matched teams ever. The Cardinals had to come behind from a 13 point deficit. I bet hardly anyone watching thought they would. That was surprising enough. Then the Steelers put a drive together and win the game with only seconds on the clock. How many thought it would end this way? You have 2 improbable come from behind drives by the Cardinals followed by one by the Steelers. These drives are unmatched in another Super Bowl. How many Super Bowls have swung the lead that quickly and that closely? And the result of this Super Bowel is that now the Steelers own more Super Bowl victories than any other team in NFL history. Yeah, the Rams and Titans was fun, but the team that led that one ended up winning. No lead changes. No multiple titles. The Steelers are now the greatest team in NFL history based on Super Bowl wins. Best ever.

Not a Springsteen Fan but that was the best halftime ever - totally a Prince fanatic but Bruce brought down the house. The game was classic. Should not have been that close, but is was amazing. The Steeler nation is amazing - great fans and great football. Tampa did a great job hosting the game. The Falcons could have been there, and they’ll be there soon. Go Steelers. Great job.

How bad was the halftime show? I turned it off and watched commercials on the History Channel. And enjoyed them. That being said, the game was as good as the show was bad.

Good second half but that’s about it. too many unnecessary penalty calls. and the beating by James Harrison on the helpless Cardinal ruined it for me. Should have thrown his butt out of the game. The refs did everything else. Should have been called the Referee Bowl.

It figures a Bulldog would think Prince was the best halftime performer.
That honor goes to U2 and it’s not even close.
This was the third best Super Bowl behind last year’s and the Titans-Rams Super Bowl at the Dome years ago.

After Springsteen, I watched an episode of NCIS on DVD and then tuned back in for the end of the third quarter and the fourth quarter. Good game. But I wanted the Cardinals to win.

No soul, no fire, no edge. She tries bless her heart, but she just ain’t got it.

The officiating was awful, and mostly to the Steelers benefit.
The real disapointment was that the shoddy officiating was really the 2nd biggest story in the first 3 quarters, behind the fantastic INT return. Yet Madden and Michaels seemingly ignored the poor calls, as if NBC was worried about upseting the NFL or something.
It was a great 4th quarter, but hardly the best Super Bowl of all time.

It was an awesome game. I thought the Steelers were going to blow them out. I always said the most exciting part of the game was the last 5 minutes. The steel curtain shined!!!

The officials should have kicked Harrison out of the game for punching the Cardinal’s player on the ground. That incident detracted from the otherwise outstanding play of the Steelers. Harrison should be fined by the league. I didn’t think much of the halftime show, either, and I was very disappointed by the poor advertising. Remember Louie the Lizard and classics like the mud wrestlers?

It was an ok Super Bowl. The zebra crew was too involved to make this one of the great Super Bowls. Arizona showed why they deserved to be there. I did not think they had the emotional fortitude to overcome the interception return. My hats off to them. I just hate having to listen to all this ‘Sixburg’ talk for another year. It really makes me NOT want to live in ‘Sicks-burg’.

Why can’t Pitssburgh win a Superbowl without the officials help. When they beat Seattle a few years ago the officials gave them that game. And last night was the same thing. What a joke.

This Super Bowl was a lot like Super Bowl 38 was between the Patriots and Panthers in that is was a boring game until the 4th quarter. It really kind of depends on what you like. If you like a close game between 2 dominant teams, then both of the Superbowls between the Terry Bradshaw Steelers and Roger Stabuch Cowboys were classic. If you like close games, then you have to go with the Bills vs. Giants 20-19 Super Bowl. If you like upsets, then you’ll go with the Patriots beating the Rams 20-17 or last years Giants vs. Patriots game. If you like exciting finshes then this years game has to be right up there. Personally, I think it’s tough to top those Cowboys vs. Steelers matchups in the 70’s, but the other games are great too.

Why is it that everytime the Steelers win everyine whines about the refs helping them out?!!! It was a good game, they won, let it go!!!
I agree that what Harrison did was uncalled for, but that does not take away the fact that the Cards did not and could not stop them. They waited too long to get Fitzgerald in the game and Warner was typical Warner. Good for a few games and then has a bad one. And the refs called penalties on both teams last night. So, with that being said….we got 6 and if you’re a fan of one of the 15 teams who don’t have a championship or have never been to a Super Bowl…..go get 1 and if you can’t, the Steelers Nation will always leave a light on for you to come home to.

Jennifer Hudson totally rocked on the National Anthem (I had goosebumps) and the game was exciting. Close games are definitely better than blowouts. I was a little worried at the start because it looked like the Steelers were going to totally dominate Arizona. However, the Cardinals were able to come back. I’m not a huge Springsteen & E Street Band fan but I thought they did a decent job rocking out the Super Bowl halftime show.

We truly have been blessed with some great games of late. The worst of this decade (Bucs-Raiders) is still better than just about every game between 1980 and 1995. What makes this game special was interception return by Harrison, the TD y.a.c. by Fitzgerald and the final drive by Rothlisburger/Holmes. Some of the best moments in any game, much less the Superbowl…I’m not a Cardinal fan, but I’d love to see Kurt Warner, Fitzgerald, and Bolden in the post season again.

eh…..close does not equal great. Guess I’m in the minority here, but there were too many penalties, and overall I though the game was a little sloppy. Not a bad game, but not one of the “greatest”.

Very entertaining game overall. On the edge of my seat the whole 4th quarter. Not caring about either team too much allowed me to root for a close game and we certainly got it. Commercials sucked for the most part. The Boss rocked it out though.

2 of the greatest 4th quarter comebacks in the super bowl will probably be forgotten as Warner watched Brady march down and kick a field goal with no time and Big Ben do basically the same.
I would hope Kurt Warner taking the Cardinals and Rams, two of the sorriest franchises ever, to superbowls would get him a little more respect.
Thanks Kurt for the memories and I hope you play another couple of years as one of the greatest big game QBs ever. You are one of the great ones-only to lose in the end to two future hall of famers-Tom Brady and Ben roethlisberger.
Congrats Steelers!

No doubt, yesterday’s game was one of the best…but it is still #3 behind last year’s and the #1 of all time…the unbelievable upset of the Colts by Joe Namath and the Jets. People forget, without Namath and the jets winning, there would be no Super Bowls today, because it was common knowledge in those days that had the Jets gotten waxed like the Raiders and Chiefs had in 67 and 68, then the NFL would have called off the whole spectacle…for an apparent lack of competition! But yesterday’s was in the top three…the one in Atlanta with the Titans-Rams would rate #4 followed by the 49ers’s triumph over the Bengals. Hard to believe the Bengals ever played in one of those…isn’t it???

Last night’s game may have been the best 3 minutes in Super Bowl history. The officials had to call a lot of penalties because it was a Pier Six brawl out there. I wasn’t happy with the non call against James Harrison (he should have been ejected), and the roughing call against Karlos Dansby should not have been called. Roethlisberger was moving around all game. He’s probably the strongest QB in the NFL, and it takes a king size hit to bring him down. Dansby hardly touched him, comparatively speaking. A real good game though.

Not a Springsteen fan, and definitly not a rock fan, but WOW. Bruce was amazing. I’ve only heard one of those songs he sang, but he had that place rocking. That was the best halftime show I’ve ever seen. Incredible! Make me want to get tickets for his concert coming up in Atlanta. Next year need to have a country music star or stars for the half time show!!

It was in the top 5, but the horrible officating took a lot of the gloss off. I think the zebras were pi$$ed at Whisenhunt for showing them up twice on challenges, because they hammered the Cards w/ one crappy call after another.
I think last year’s game was the most exciting ever, personally. The Rams-Titans matchup when the game was played in Atlanta was incredible too.
