PRR finish returns to Piedmont Park
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Atlanta Track Club officials have announced that the finish of this summer’s Peachtree Road Race will return to its old finish line on the edge of Piedmont Park.
Last year, the finish line was moved after the city restricted use of the park for large events in light of ongoing drought conditions. What are your thoughts now that the finish line has been moved back to the park?
Let us know what you think.

Too early. Too hot. Too many people. Too many walkers. Why would anyone want to go to that thing?

I kind of like last year’s route…
…but having to walk up the asphalt on North Ave. & Piedmont with nowhere to find shade was no fun. Not to mention the resulting jam of people in the street. Glad to be returning to the Park.

Glad it’s back in the park. Last year’s finish was the worst and if it was going to be there again in ‘09, I think the race would have lost a lot of regulars. I’ve run it 25 times.

Hooray!! Finish on a downhill instead of an uphill! Finish in a beautiful park instead of an ugly parking lot! Thanks Atlanta Track Club for pushing to have it back at Piedmont Park.

Have to go back and ask why it was forced to move last year? We are technically still in a drought. Can anyone say “mismanagement within the city”?

The Peachtree needs to give out the T-Shirts BEFORE the race so all the walkers will get them and go home and leave The Peachtree to the runners.

Part of what is special abt the PRR is the post race gathering in the Park, so returning to the 10th st finish is a good thing. Sure would like to see the old route (left at Colony Sq, down 14th st, into PP)resurrected, but I hear there are capacity issues through the 14th street park entrance. That sure made the race special and unique - in my opinion, it’s never been as good.

Thanks ATC! The finish last year was very awkward, especially for the people who have run the race for years. I’m looking forward to earning my t-shirt this year!

It ought to begin and end in Stone Mountain park. Then there would be no disruption of traffic. Get all those high CO2 producers out of the city.

Yea! The PRR should end in Piedmont Park. I am Happy To Do It again this year. Last years end was not so good. Now, if we can just keep Pride out of PP? Hmmmm!

This is great news!!! I’ve run the Peachtree since 1982, hated the move to 10th Street a few years ago, but 10th Street is tons better than the miserable finish location last year. I felt like a refugee in an asphalt prison after the race last year.

I’m thrilled to see the finish returning to it’s rightful place. Last year’s finish was miserable and several people who ran with GPS said that it was actually a quarter mile longer. I look forward to the downhill to Charles Allen while I finish my 18th PRR in July.

I don’t understand why the city moved any of these festival (race) in the first place. I ran and was very dissappointed by the end. Thanks for putting the race ending back where it should be.

It was OK for one year, but I am glad it is back to in the Park. The finish last year was OK, it was the fact that there was no grass, trees, and shade that was the bother. Looking forward to my 5th running of the Peachtree.

This is great news for the people who enjoy this event. I did not like the finish line last year, and neither did anyone else I know. Come on rain…..

I really didn’t mind last year’s finish other than the walk to Marta seemed like it took forever. But I’m glad PRR is back at Piedmont Park at the normal ending.
At least we now know we have a Plan B ready in case of any future problems with the ending location.

Piedmont, our only large park, created for large public gatherings, has been returned to the people of Atlanta. Once again, we can gather runners from all over the world for a couple of hours. Lets not worry about the grass, “it covers all.” If the Conservancy folk want a park for looking, not being, in, let them and their buddies donate the land to create it. I’ll watch and not wander it.

It’s great that the finish is returning to Piedmont Park. The perfect finish for a great race. Lots of room for everything, including to meet other runners from all over the USA and other countries. Ken
