USC loss could boost Bulldogs

No. 1 USC was stunned by Oregon State Thursday night.

The top-ranked Trojans’ loss would allow No. 3 Georgia to move up in the rankings if the Bulldogs can beat Alabama Saturday.

If Georgia beats the Crimson Tide Saturday and No. 2 Oklahoma loses or struggles against TCU, could be the Bulldogs return to No. 1?

Did you stay up late to watch the USC game?

Dawgs getting a little love from ESPN tonight. Great feature on Munson.

Even Holtz was complimentary toward Stafford during his Dr Lou diatribe. I broke my chair-a metal steel chair.

First…….and why did USC jump Georgia in the polls to the number one spot. I might be speaking to early, but even if USC overcomes the half to win they should drop in the polls. The #1 team in the land never gets blown out the way USC has in this game. Bring on Bama, and the Dawgs National Title hopes.

Is this really a suprise to anyone? This USC team doesnt even look like they could beat Sister Mary’s team of the blind and deaf. And to think, they dont play a SINGLE ranked opponent the rest of the season! Ridiculous, and just shows how much power the media really has in determining the rankings. They should have never jumped the Dawgs.

If Oregon State has a 2 touchdown lead going into the fourth quarter, USC will have a tough time coming back, cause this little kid can run tonight. Eat the clock that is. Let’s hope he keeps it going.

USC will probably get more number 1 votes because of the way they came back and came up short!! Maybe not, but slobbering Lou Holtz will probably give them his number 1 vote. What a joke. They looked pathetic the whole game playing against a team that got blown out by Penn State. How far will they drop in the poles? Probably not as far as they should. The middle of the pack teams in the SEC (Vanderbilt, Kentucky and South Carolina) would all beat USC and Ohio State. Next to fall is Oklahoma. Contrary to what slobbering Lou and he comrades at ESPN say Oklahoma has played one of the softest schedules so far this season. You would think they beat three top ten teams so far this year. What a joke. They should all be ranked no higher than Vanderbilt.

Oregon State is a miserable football team.

The PAC-10 is not a good conference, and neither is the Big 10. For that matter, the ACC is not a good conference and everyone knows the Big East is not.

We are in control of our own destiny.

Oregon State cannot punt.

Oregon State cannot pass.

Oregon State cannot kick field goals or extra points, even.

Oregon State has zero defense.

Sanchez will be throwing bombs with less than a minute left, even if they’re winning by 21. After all, Pete Carroll loves winning in “style”. The press will eat it up they’ll be back at #1 by the end of October.

It doesn’t matter that Oregon State won. Oregon State still will not be ranked.

The voters had NO RIGHT to drop UGA from No. 4 to stay Number 4 last year when we were the best team in the land last year and ended up No. 2.

They equally had NO RIGHT to do that to us again this season.

Now, how stupid did they look last year ?

Now, how stupid do they look this year ?

Oklahoma has not played a team as good as South Carolina.

TCU. Give me a break.

We don’t need to be No. 1.

All we need to be is where we are.

And, it damn sure is a better UGA Football team than Southern California.

12-2 UGA is a better football team than 12-1 Southern California.

All the crap the PAC-10 took over the last week, was ALL JUSTIFIED.

By LifelongDawg

September 26, 2008 1:00 AM | Link to this

PACWIN will emerge when he can think of an excuse (no matter how implausible) to explain away USC’s loss. I’m betting he’ll rehabilitate the Beavers and make them ot to be the dark-horse contender for the Pac 1 title. Every team in that conference is a dark-horse because they all suck. Usc is in last place right now.

I figure they’ll drop to 10 or 11 in the polls. Losing to this weak team, who got drilled by Penn State, doesn’t inspire confidence. And it makes the Buckeyes a little more suspicious, too

By Tyre

September 26, 2008 1:06 AM | Link to this

So USC is going to move to # 4 or 5. Remember this is the ESPN era with their talking points.

This puts pressure on UGA to WIN. A loss anywhere just puts USC back in front of them. If # of losses are equal USC is still on top with the pollsters.

Glad to see David Greene employed.

By ............................................BuLLdawg

September 26, 2008 1:08 AM | Link to this

What I’ve never heard of is putting a team No. 1 who had 0 games all the rest of the year against a ranked team going into the night. And, no Conference championship.

And, got beat by a team with a LOSING RECORD.

Been 18 years since that feat happened.

That was the Big 10 then.

Now, it’s the PAC-10.

Let’s face it, the rose bowl of PAC-10 vs. Big 10 is a horrid, nobody cares bowl game.

By LifelongDawg

September 26, 2008 1:10 AM | Link to this

Running up the score will be too little, too late. And it won’t be so well-received, because everyone will know that Carroll’s doing it for all the wrong reasons (there are very few right ones to begin with). I believe the Trojans will see a backlash if they try that strategy, but they have little choice now.

PACWIN

Not here to gloat. Just to emphasize the point. Any team no matter how great they are can lose on any given day.

YOU said USC would beat South Carolina silly. The media wanted to give you a birth in the NC game after the Ohio State game. I SAID UVA and OSU were not all that and time will tell. Well time has told and your boys are obviously not unbeatable. Is any SEC team including Georgia unbeatable? NO! We could lose to Vandy or Kentucky, I’m a realistic fan. I was just p!ssed that the BCS trophy was in Pasadena a couple of weeks ago, knowing all the time it’s too early to say who is legit.

I hope you come on the boards tomorrow and eat some crow. USC may still have a say in this messed up BCS equation but you have learned that no team is unbeatable. Good luck the rest of the way. I still think USC is a great team that had a bad day. Hopefully my Dawgs won’t have one Sat night. Go Dawgs!

By Stop crying and just win

September 26, 2008 1:22 AM | Link to this

Get off it already Georgia….if you win, you’ll play for the NC. You think you’re the only team to win and drop in the polls??? Penn State in 1994 dropped to #2 after beating Ohio State 62-14. Just because Nebraska beat a top 5 Colorado team that same day, they took over the top spot. Penn State was undefeated and UNCROWNED in 1968, 1969, 1973 and 1994….so quit your wimpering!

I’ve been a UGA and college football fan since I could walk. This game means nothing to UGA. The ONLY thing that matters is what the dawgs do on the field. Unlike most of you I don’t believe the hype. The hype is that a great time cannot get up to play every week. That is hype and it is a lie. The great teams are the teams that do what it takes to avoid let downs. The dawgs have great talent and coaching. We are a great team! We will get up and step up each game. The dawgs will go undefeated and win another national championship. Write THAT down. GO DAWGS!!! One of the GREATS

W T F??? I have always loved BEAVER, but now I’m definitely a Beaver fan. Soesn’t look like the TROJAN did a very good job penetrating the BEAVER tonight! 21 - ZIP in the first half. USC didn’t know whether to sh!t or go blind.

Someone wrote yesterday that USC is a team of men playing among boyz. Remember this - ANYONE ON ANY GIVEN DAY CAN BE BEATEN IF NOT PREPARED.

It’s obvious the Trojan didn’t take the Beaver seriously.

Now, the DAWGS. The Beauty contest is over, the bloom is off the rose. USC has been found to be merely MORTAL. They were challenged for the first time this season and fell apart like a cheap suit. And how about that little Beaver running back Jaquizz Rogers? He reminds me of Thomas Brown when he was a Freshman. Oregon can build an offense around him and his brother. What a pair!

Everybody knows the DAWGS are the BEST TEAM in the land. They will run the table and BAMMER is the next casualty.

UGA Fans, Just forget about the USC Trojans losing. It is not going to help you because UGA is going to get beat by the Crimson Tide. UGA is going down. The Bulldogs are over-rated just like the USC Trojans are over-rated. The tide is going to come into Athens and give you all the reason you need to wear black. I do like the way you Dawg fans look and plan ahead. The black will be perfect for the Dawgs and their fans after we whup your arses but good in your own stadium. We intend to settle the score from last year. This year there isn’t a darn thing you can do about it except weap and wear black. You guys are far too overmatched. Your pathetic little dawgs might get to smell the end zone a time or two, and that’s only if we decide to feel sorry for you and let you have a first down every now and then and, if you are really good sports and don’t cry too much, we might even let you score a safety or a fieldgoal after we’ve scored our 60 points. We wouldn’t want the pathetic little bulldogs to drop completely out of the top 25 and if you do you might get enough sympathy votes to keep you in the honorable mention casting. Too bad little Dawgies, but you lose. Let the Tide Roll into Athens town and let the carnage begin!

Some UGA fans are getting waay ahead of themselves. Georgia has a long, tough road to get into the nat’l championship game. SCal’s loss means little right now. If Georgia handles business, they would be in the championship regardless if SCal had lost or not. I was actually looking forward to a SCal vs. SEC champion matchup though. It looks like Big 12 - SEC, unless Penn State sneaks in undefeated in the Big Ten.

With biased homers like Herbstreit voting in the polls, I wouldn’t be surprised if we did not move up at all with a win. Herbstreit has us ranked 5th.

We can’t win with ESPN or the national media.

We beat a good team on the road in ASU convincingly and all I am hearing is how we either didn’t win by enough or tried to run up the score.

I stayed up and watched the game. I think I dozed off at the beginning of the 3rd quarter because all of a sudden it was 14-21 and USC had the ball. I really thought they would win at that point. That just shows how deep the bias goes. Sometime this week I heard a talking head saying that SC had a “clear path to the championship game”. Better check that path. This also starts to open up the possibility of a one loss team in the BCS.

I thought usc’s poor showing proves that not only were they completely overhyped and overrated but it also shows that ucla and ohio state are not legit. All we’ve heard all season to date is that usc is the biggest, the fastest and simply unstoppable. Cowherd was so convinced of their superiority that he said they were carrolls best team ever! I’m having trouble recalling a time when I have so much enjoyed watching a team fall apart like usc did last night. They looked like a bunch of high schoolers that have never been taught fundamentals…. like tackling.

I tried to stay awake but caught the last 10 minutes of the 4th qtr this morning. WOW! This BIG game just got even BIGGER! Chip, is it just me or the way CMR is acting this week it seems like he “knows something”? I say this because of the way he keeps jabbing back at Sabin. I think the Dawgs want to make a statement on Saturday night this USC loss should serve as reminder to them.

Why is it that when Auburn beats Mississippi St 3-2, it’s because the defenses are just so great? Couldn’t it be that the offenses are just THAT BAD? Oregon State beats USC but it’s not because Oregon State is good, it’s because the whole conference is terrible. It’s this dilusion in the SEC that keeps its fans scratching their heads when one of their teams is left out of the NC mix. The SEC is good…it’s better than most…but don’t argue the conference as a whole is above everyone else….it’s just a few teams that deserve the credit. Tennessee, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Mississippi St, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Kentucky wouldn’t survive in any of the other major conferences either.

  • 3.Can’t wait for tomorrow. I’m interested to see how this game plays out. Dawgs can’t afford to lose this one if the are only allowed one blemish on there record on the road to the BCS.

4.I was in Tempe for the game last weekend and a majority of the ASU fans I talked to said So Cal had the most obnoxious fans out west, glad they lost to a mediocre team.

I got 5 hours sleep on a work night but it was worth every second of sleep lost to see the mighty media darlings fall on their face for 4 quarters. They’ll probably still be ranked #2. I’m not talking too much crap because we all know it could blow up in the face of the bulldog nation but after 3 straight weeks of sports illustrated, the WWL and the rest of the media down rating the dawgs and talking up “clearly the best team in the country USC”, I am a very happy Dawg fan this morning.

SEC still blows. USC would be undefeated in that pathetic conference. Oregon state is a very good team that would probably finish 2nd or 3rd in the SEC. If our LBs were not hurt USC would have dominated that game. Also the refs gave that one away. The PAC 10 is the stongest conference period.

Stayed up and watched every play of thegame. All the USC talk I wanted to watch them week in and week out. USC wasn’t there, they really thought they could play and win on sure talent and opps they slipped up!! The Pac 10 conference isn’t that strong and now the leader of the pack head and shoulders above everyone and they fall. College Football but now we see that USC isn’t that strong as percieved.

Southern California should fall as far as Ohio State did, down to Number 13.

I totally agree but I guarantee they will drop no further than 5th or 6th. The pollsters won’t push them out of the top 10 because they still want their darlings to have a shot at an NC. Didn’t Auburn fall out of the top 10 after losing to #6 LSU? But yet somehow USC will remain in the top 10. just wait and see.

if a #5 ohio state team fell 8 spots for losing to a #1 USC team. then USC should fall into the 15-20th ranked range for losing the the 69th ranked team. i know it will never happen like that, but that would be fair, right? especially considering that they’re now only 2-1 and in a horible conference.

    AJC,

Stop with all of the if’s. The DAWGS should not have never dropped in the polls. It’s because of the favoritism of the sports writers, and sports analyst, like Cornheiser, May, and etc that convince the media and coaches to put USC there in the Number one spot to begin with.

You know Darn well that USC Nor Oklahoma should have been in the Number one and two spots. With Oklahoma being where they are right now, it will not last long. I will promise you.

While the Big 12 may have some credibility, I not go on to say that Oklahoma is the power house that you suggest ,and place them behind the over rated USC. Again you are over rating teams that should not be where they are.

Oklahoma will get beaten by Texas, and Missouri this year. And don’t leave out Kansas if Oklahoma play any of them this year. If not, and if they make it to the Big 12 Championship, they will lose.

Now to say USC was stunned? I disagree. They just got beat. I said it at the 2nd week of the rankings, and the media, sport writers, etc. didn’t think so. Well now you have it.

USC just got beaten by a non contender team which makes them over rated. The Georgia Bulldogs should have never left the number one spot. When they win Saturday against SEC Power Alabama, the critics will have no other choice but to put them back where they belong. Thats number 1.

    GO DAWGS….

How many places will the Bulldogs get dropped after they lose to the Crimson Tide by 5 touchdowns. It is possible that the dawgs are a top 25 team, but they need to prove that they belong in the top 25 by good play on the field and not the psychotic whining and sympathy seeking behavior just to get the nation’s attention. OK bulldog fans, the rest of the nation already knows you do, in fact have a football team and that you have always choked in the last 28 years and found the merest excuses for doing so. The grass on the field needed cutting. the officiating was bad because we got called for 15 penalties, but we only actually committed 14. The other team psyched us out. An excuse for every occassion. What will be the excuse when Bama rolls into Athens and beats you in your own stadium? “, those mean old Bama fans made fun of our black uniforms.” How about the honsest reason that you will have lost, the Crimson Tide is a far better team!!!
