Without Sturdivant, is UGA still No. 1?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Top-ranked Georgia suffered its first huge loss of the preseason Monday, when starting left tackle Trinton Sturdivant went down with a serious knee injury, possibly ending the sophomore’s season.
AJC.com’s Chip Towers wrote: With Sturdivant out, redshirt sophomore Josh Davis took the snaps with No. 1 unit. Richt said the Bulldogs could also turn to left guard Vince Vance, right guards Clint Boling or Cordy Glenn, and may consider moving over Kiante Tripp from right tackle.
This is obviously a huge blow for the Dogs. The Associated Press poll comes out Saturday. With the injury to Sturdivant, would you still vote UGA No. 1? If not, who gets your vote as the nation’s top team?

This is serious if Sturdivant is gone. We have more depth on the OL than past years, but he might be the one that is hard to replace. Let’s look at it again in 3 weeks to see if is as bad as we fear. Some of our young kids may grow up.

He was suppose to be a future top 10 draft pick too. Man this is terrible. But the only thing UGA can do is turn to another freshman to take his place. Hopefully someone steps up in the next 2 weeks.

Hate if for Sturdivant. He is a great talent. The team will be fine. I repeat. The team will be fine. Georgia has depth on the O-line and a great coach in Searles. Whoever is his replacement will be ready. Better now than halfway through the season.

i’m gonna come across as a complete homer, but screw it.
other than lemon and possibly dewberry, all of georgia’s arrests have just been kids getting in trouble with alcohol.
it’s not like we’ve had any shocking arrests like someone trafficking coke, or using a dead person’s credit card, or firing off an AK 47 in a crowded place, or felony theft like other schools in the SEC. those are the arrests that make you wonder about the character of a program.
if you take a random census of any group of 120 UGA students under the age of 21, i wouldn’t be surprised if the arrests on the football team would be any higher than the regular student body. college kids have gotten arrested for public drunkenness and underage drinking ever since the law changed to 21 and they’ll continue to do so until the end of time.
public drunkenness and underage drinking charges are a rite of passage. trafficking coke, or using a dead person’s credit card, or firing off an AK 47 in a crowded place, or felony theft are not.

When will there be definitive word on the severity of the injury? It sounds bad but I want to hear what a doctor has to say. This breaks my heart for Sturdivant and the team. Coaches got to find a way to motivate others to make up for Sturdivant missing. Unfortunately, these things happen. Damnit!

I agree with Obnoxious — it is a big loss but the best coaching hire Richt has done is getting Stacy Searels — look at what he did last year — he can do it again.

Well fleabags there goes your dream season before it even started. Without Sturdivant, Stafford will get creamed. By the time the Jackets play them, he will be eating out of a tube down his throat. Hopefully, no other players show up and tear up the hospital on hearing the news. Can’t wait until the Jackets drop 40+ on your D this November :)

It’s gonna be hard for Fat Stafford to throw the ball laying on his back, and it’s gonna be hard for NoShow Moreno to do anything when half your team is in jail, and the other half is on the DL. It sucks because Moreno is a decent back but can’t be great without an OL and ya’ll don’t have one. All of you OL are sophomores, redshirt freshmen, or true freshmen. This is the SEC and freshmen don’t normally come in and start and produce the way Sturdivant did. If this is serious you can kiss your NC dreams goodbye, because ya’ll will be lucky to win 9 games.

VolManBill, thanks for the class response.
For the rest of you losers gloating over an injury to a fine young man:
Trinton Sturdivant is an excellent student-athlete—former student body president with a 4.0 GPA in high school. He was a stud dog on the OL as a true freshman and a key to the success of the team last season. If he is truly lost for the year (and the word on the street is that it is an ACL/MCL injury, which would indeed be season-ending), it would be a blow, but Georgia will adapt. Injuries are part of the game. But the appropriate thing to do here would be to say a prayer for the health and welfare of this fine young man, NOT to gloat because a rival may have a less successful season as a result of his injury.
The depth and breadth of Tech fans’ infantile vitriol astonishes me. There must be something in the drinking water at the North Avenue Trade School that stunts emotional growth.
Oh, and by the way, Sturdivant’s injury won’t do one dang thing to improve the execrable dearth of talent on the Flats. Tech will be fortunate to win six games this year (they’d lose seven if they played in a real conference instead of the near-FCS-level ACC). And Georgia will not be one of those six possible victories. The Dawgs could beat the Jackets with their scout team.

Real classy guys. A kid gets hurt possibly for the season. Who knows how bad it is and you guys come in acting like this. You must be so proud. I hate it for the kid but hopefully it’s not as serious as my gut says it is. As for you who are talking crap, jealousy is an ugly thing and so are you. I can guarantee you that your team has had problems with players getting in trouble as well and remember what goes around comes around and not everyone gets what they want but everyone gets what they deserve. So remember that if one of your key players goes down.

Sorry to hear about Sturdivant. He impressed me so much last season. He did a wonderful job as A fresh. No doubt he’ll be a big time player for years to come there at UGA. I can only imagine our Bama squad without Andre Smith there at left tackle. (hell, we’ve been trying to solve RIGHT tackle for years)lol. Someone will step up and become a contributer/player in his place. That’s what good teams do. Keep your heads up dogs and ignore all these barners and especially anyone in favor of a team in the ACC for crying out loud. RTR

This is a HUGE blow. PERIOD. But it is part of the game. Hopefully his back up steps and the coaches make the proper adjustments.
The hatered for UGA on this blog is really amazing. I mean I can understand a blog where trash talking seems to be the main topic of conversation. But give the kid a break. He is out for the season. There isn’t a need to bash a team’s fans or a team because a kid goes out with an injury.
The level of conversation on here from some people rivals that of a conversation at lunch during middle school.

So what is it Ed Zachary, were the Bulldogs overhyped before the injury, violations of team rules and arrests which led to suspensions or were we overhyped before everything happened? It’s funny you yahoos take such glee in an injured kid who has worked his tail off to get to this level only to be potentially out for the season. Deep down inside y’all fear playing a 100% UGA team.
I cannot believe that Goldtimer and his band of merry nerds still show up on this board. What has your team accomplished outside of playing on blue turf in the postseason and drug arrests by former/current players?
By dny1979

Julio is doing exceptional thus far, earning praise from not only his coaches but also from his fellow teammates. Many of the Vets have said that he showed up and is outworking everyone, not expecting anything to be given to him. Also said that he is the quietest guy on the team, who lets his play talk for him. He seems to handle it all with a professional demeanor. He’s been everything we’d hoped far so far. He had a couple grabs for 60 yards and a score in our first scrimmage. McCoy (our #1 WR, had 119 and 2 scores) Julio is battling with Earl Alexander for that #2 spot. Darius Hanks (from Norcross) probably has the slot position sewed up. Hanks, IMO, is the brightest spot of all of the WR’s. The kid has the best hands i’ve ever seen, and a knack for getting open. CNS made a comparison to Marvin Harrison (b/c of his exceptional route running, great hands and just the size of the kid. He’s not too big) AJ will be a big time WR. I read that he left the scrimmage a little banged up. Hopefully he’ll be 100% by the start of the year. He’s going to be special. He’s still growing and putting on weight. Sorry to rant, but to answer your question, Julio will play alot this year. He will play against Clemson. He could possibly start against Clemson. Worst case scenario, he’s starting by week 5. He will play alot against CU either way.

What coach in his right mind has his team number 1 and risks unnecessary injury to starters? What is he trying to prove. This on the heels of all these lockups and arrests. Things aren’t going very well. Im seriously feeling nervous about the Florida game now that we did our end zone antics and got them all p** off. Come on Richt, wake up!

It’s just a shame that such a good player was hurt. Our line will be ok though. Don’t we have a lineman who is one of the top true freshman in the country going to take his place? In Mark Richt I trust.
He’ll be back this year and he’ll be better than ever in the championship game.
