Is Josh Smith worth $58 million over five years?

What does Josh Smith need to accomplish in order to live up to his new five-year, $58-million contract he received Friday from the Hawks?

Smith, 22, is entering his fifth season. He has improved rapidly, but still has his inconsistent moments. Last season, he averaged career highs in points and assists and was among the NBA’s leaders in blocks .

Do you believe he will lead the Hawks to at least an Eastern Conference title in the next five years? If not, is he really worth this kind of investment?

One thing is for sure, the Hawks’ roster looks a lot better with Smith than without him. Can you imagine if they would have let him go to Memphis? For now, Hawks fans have to be happy to have “J-Smoove” back at the Highlight Factory. But four years down the road will they still be as happy, especially if the Hawks don’t contend for an NBA title?
