UGA No. 1 in coaches poll

The nation’s college football coaches have spoken - Georgia is the No. 1 team in the country in the preseason. (See story).

In today’s release of the preseason USA Today coaches poll, Georgia is ranked first followed by Southern Cal, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Florida. The release of the poll comes a little more than a week after the media in the SEC voted the Dogs to finish second in the SEC East behind Florida.

So, are you more inclined to believe the coaches or the media? Or would you just rather wait until the season starts and watch the Dogs settle matters on the field?

Let us know what you think. Also, weigh in as Chip Towers offers his opinion on the Georgia beat blog and the Junkyard Blawger offers a fan’s perspective.

That is a pretty big deal and they should be proud… but without hard work and a daily focus this will be nothing but somke. If they for one second let this go to their heads, UGA will be in for one rocky ride.

GATA!!! Go DAWGS. Should be one exciting season!

More often than not, UGA has finished higher than it’s initial ranking during Richt’s tenure. Well, this year that will be tough.

Kudos to Richt for what he has done at UGA.

I believe the coaches have it right. UGA had 1 of the 2 top teams at the end of last season. They did not loose alot of talent and what they did loose, the replacemnts look great. I am only worried about the corners. UGA should be number 1 until someone unseats them.

Funny. Last year the AP had them at 2, coaches at 3 and people were running around like they’d never heard of the Coaches Poll. Guess you just go with which one has you higher? Should be a great season regardless. Don’t see how UGA is going to play that schedule and run the table. If they do the BCS title game should just be skipped.

Wow..its all well and good but won’t mean a thing unless the Dawgs step it up on the field. But I think Richt will have this team in the right mindset. It sounds like it has been all summer long with the Dawgs continuing to break strength and conditioning records.

But the thing that really scares me is the schedule. UGA plays 5 of the top 18 in the coaches poll and only #18 (Tennessee) will be played at home. As Larry Munson would say “We need Ole Lady Luck” to shine on the Dawgs. Regardless, its going to be a great college football season, especially watching the SEC unfold this year.

Mark Richt is my favorite coach in all of college football. I absolutely despise UGA and Bammer equally but I respect the man behind UGA football. I hope they do go undefeated. That is until they play Auburn. Then I have to go with my team. But, my advice to UGA fans is to keep your mouths in check because we were ranked #1 a few years back and that didn’t turn out so well.

Worried about the corners? Asher Allen, Prince Miller, Bryan Evans, Vance Cuff, Ramarcus Brown and Brandon Boykin…I think we have the corners covered..no pun intended. Safety…stacked. Linebacker…stacked. Interior DL…REALLY stacked Defensive end…will surprise all of people this season.

Bottom line, might be the best defense in the Richt era and could push for best of all time.

Looking at how the first place voting broke down, there doesn’t seem to be a clear cut number 1 and I’m willing to bet those votes broke down across regional lines.

People can say it’s not important where you are in the pre-season but that’s not accurate. If you start out #1 and take care of your business, you are at a distinct advantage over the competition.

That being said, SEC competition is too tough and games will be lost. But #2 or #3 will have a loss very early on too. It should be fun to watch.

I can hear Richt’s response already. “It’s an honor and a very exciting thing for our football team. But we haven’t won anything yet. Not one game. We have to prepare every week to play the way we’re capable. If we don’t do that, we won’t be there at the end.”

By 2BFREE

The BCS championship is the Dawgs to lose this year and my fingers are crossed that doesn’t happen. The Dawgs were a championship team last year, but I agree with the polls it wasn’t completely deserved since they didn’t at least win their own Division.

Some will say they hate being ranked number 1 until the last play is made and i can understand this as everyone is out to knock the top “dog” from the throne. However I find it easier to keep others off the top than fighting my way to the top.

Don’t worry….after the ESPN morans led by Kirk “I love the overrated and lousy Big 10” Herbstreit, Ohio State will be in the #2 slot behind USC thanks to the scheduling. Herbstreit’s bias towards his home league is sickening and hypocritical.

I mean how can you deny someone after a tough win against the likes of Indiana, Minnesota, Northwestern and Iowa? Ask Ron Zook the difference in leagues. USC’s march will almost be as easy in the PAC (Pathetic Awful Competition) 10.

Asking any team to go through UGA’s schedule without two losses is unreasonable.

This poll is politics at its best. UGA has a great team, but they have to get past my boys on 13 September and the rest of the SEC. Yeh, good luck at that. Florida is the better team this year, and believe Auburn can beat UGA in 2008. TN will be lukewarm this year. My boys may be a surprise, but let’s play each game well and see what happens. What makes college football so exciting is seeing what really…happens and there be a surprise team or two that end up basking in the glory. Bring on the season!!

Uh, that’s not true. USC did it as a consensus preseason #1 pick in 2004 and I think Miami #1 in one of the polls in 2001. And I’d be willing to bet it happened before 1999 too, but can’t verify that.

I digress. If I am not mistaken this is the first time EVER UGA has been preseason #1 in a major poll. Does that earn us a trophy? Of course not, but it does indicate that the nation has taken notice of the program and respects it.

As a Gator, it does rubs me a little wrong, but congrats to the Dawgs. I appreciate the coaches voting who they think is the best team number 1. As opposed to some media polls where voters consider how hard the schedule is and mark them down because they think the schedule is too tough to go undefeated. It should be about the best team, not the best team with an easy schedule. Which is more important the SEC Media Poll or the Coaches Poll? Neither. The first polls should come out in early October. Yeah ok whatever. The SEC is way too tough to go undefeated. Plus Florida will rock UGA this year. I see UGA losing 2-3 games. With USC and OU in weak conferences, I see them playing in the NC. Oh well, guess 3rd or 4th ain’t too bad. UGA will more than likely lose to UF and Auburn. Both teams have what it takes to beat UGA. I just hope Tech can make it respectable this year.

The SEC gets more praise than every conference combined… there is no bias… thats my only beef with SEC fans, if someone pulls for their conference or mentioned a team outside of the SEC, you guys get all sensitive.. trust me the SEC is by far the best conference and no other conference comes close.. I do think some teams outside the SEC can compete and occasionally beat some of your best, but for the most part its not even close.

I’m outraged that Florida is not number 1. Don’t the stupid coaches know that touchdown Jesus aka Tim Tebow is the best college football player ever? Sure our secondary is still getting torched by Michigan, but coach Urban is going to put Tebow back there to cover both WRs this year. We also have the world’s fastest, most elusive player ever in Percy “I almost quit the team last year” Harvin. Urban Meyer is the greatest coach in all of football history, and the spread option destroys everything in its path. So everyone in the country should bow down to the almighty Gators!

Pre-season No. 1 … very impressive, and quite a kick for Georgia fans everywhere (of which I am one). Makes you want to thump your chest and make bold comments. (Many do … others have enough sense not to.) On the other hand … not so good for the Georgia team … UNLESS, Mark and his staff are able to press home to them the fact that pre-season polls are basically like ‘a-holes’ … everybody’s got one and they’re only real function is dealing ‘crap’. The prize is there for the taking … but will be (as there already has been) a lot of hard work, preparation, and focus to STAY in position to take the prize. If the team begins to think how wonderful they are based on their press clipping, etc. (as many Georgia fans are now expressing) they will be in for a very unhappy experience as will all Georgia fans everywhere. I, for one, am hoping the staff holds the reins on the guys fairly securely, provides the guidance and wisdom that should accompany this event and that Georgia will go forth and have the season we all are hoping for. And with that I say, “Go you Hairy Dawgs - GATA.”

My only other comment is … you guys don’t be too hard on “GATOR CHOMP”. He sounds like he’s just turned 11 years old and his MOM now let’s him play on the computer by himself since he’s a big boy.

A preseason ranking, whether intra-conference or national, of course, means nothing. As someone pointed out, what it is is a sign of national respect for the program. However, since the chances of running the table in the SEC (although we will win the conference) are slim, this starting rank will help us rebound better after any loss, much like LSU did after the Arkansas game.

Most of us Georgia fans know we haven’t always met the expectations, but thanks anyway for reminding us. I’m sure all of your teams will go undefeated and not disappoint you.

The good news is that the season will be played out not by us “scribes” on the internet, but by the players (of which we have as many good ones as anyone in the country this year, and certainly all of your teams)!

The “G” stands for Georgia, you big dummy!

Preseason polls are just what they are. I don’t put much weight in them. However, it does eliminate all the trash talk from others who like to claim that UGA fans are “delusional”, etc., if they think we have the chance to be great this hear. Unless, of course, the voting coaches are delusional. HBTD.

Everyone is more concern about LSU, UF, ASU, Auburn, but the two games that concern me the most are at South Carolina and at home against Alabama. Why? South Carolina only has two games they want to win each year that’s Georgia and Clemson if they win them the season is a success regardless if they loose every other game and Spurrier only has one team he would rather beat every year and that’s Georgia. You can bet they been preparing for us since spring practice. There is just something about playing at home we are not as focus as we are on the road in SEC games and our record reflex that since 2000 we are 21-7 in Athens and 22-6 at opponents home field. Also I think Bama is a little better than last year and we will be coming off an emotional victory over ASU and could be a let down game, hopefully not. I just hope our guys don’t get so caught up with those big markee matchups that I mentioned earlier and slip up against other worthy opponents and cost us our shot for a national championship. I would much rather have the excuse “We would have been playing for the NC had not been for that Florida or Auburn loss rather than that South Carolina or Alabama loss.”

So if everything goes to form the real National Championship Game will be in Jacksonville this year — whoever wins GA/FLA is — imho — the best team in the country. Quite possible they could be #1 vs. #2 either way by then. Can’t imagine how expensive a ticket will be to THAT game this year.

To all the people bashing the Dawgs…they didn’t vote them selves number 1, the coaches did so just relax. A long time season ticket holder her and I call it like I see it. UGA is VERY talented. If the Oline continues to jell and our kicking game hold up why not the Dawgs? Well the one big reason why not is schedule. It’s brutal the way it falls. SC, ASU, UA then UT, Vandy, LSU, UF, UK, AU. Those two runs are with no week off. Again…BRUTAL. I’m not sure about a MNC this year, but trust me on this. We will be in the mix from now on as long as CMR is at the helm so be ready to deal with it. UGA will be a constant threat for the MNC the same as OSU, USC, UF, and LSU. Take it to the bank…CMR and the Dawgs will get there MNC within the next 3 years!

Fred G Sanford…

Excellent point. Preseason means very little. However, it does provide currency for the season should the team lose (most of us are expecting a loss or two). The reputation will potentially allow the team to get back into this popularity/beauty contest that is the BCS. Until there is a playoff everyone hopes to be the prettiest team at the dance.

Also, it does appear that us Georgia fans are not on the delusional island alone…

This is the meat of Georgia’s schedule

Sept. 13 - @ So. Carolina Sept. 20 - @ Arizona St. Sept. 27 - vs. Alabama Oct. 11 – vs. Tenn. Oct. 18 – vs. Vandy Oct. 25 - @ LSU Nov. 1 - vs. Fla. Nov. 8. - @ Kentucky Nov. 15 - @ Auburn

Note: all of their games are practically in back to back weeks. Two straight road games at SC and a west coast trip to ASU then Bama at home. GA will lose one of those games. Dont sleep on Alabama. They will be an improved team. After their open date on Oct. 4, Georgia has 6 straight superbowl type games. Vandy plays them tough. They will lose to fla and /or LSU. Without Perriloux, LSU QB situation looks weak. They finish at Auburn. GA will lose 1-2 games in this stretch. Great schedule but sorry, no Nat’l title for GA this year.

Being #1 preseason and finishing #1 is going to be more of a test of character than talent. UGA has such a tough road to the Championship it will be hard to imagine them going undefeated, which is the only way to keep from getting screwed by the USC/OSU/OK loving media. The Dawgs have the talent…times 2…to win every game they play but do they have the heart/character? Emotion from some of the stunts pulled last year will only go so far, as every team they play will be geeked up to upset the #1 team. The media will be on them every game, dissecting EVERYTHING they do, questioning every move by Richt. Will Moreno and Stafford hold up under the pressure? Will they make the plays when it matters most? Can they? Yes. Will they? Thats what makes it fun. I just hope we can break your heart once.

PROUDTECHFAN-I appreciate your post. I guess where I get really upset is that the AD makes these schedules years in advance. We, of course, are not sure who will be good or who will completely stink. My guess is if we go to Arizona State and completely smash them, people will say, “Well, they were playing a banged-up team, or Arizona State beat themselves, or whatever lame excuse they can find. I had to mention Hawaii because before the teams were even decided, everyone was saying how great a team Hawaii was, being undefeated and all, and how UGA better watch out. Give me a break. They played a bunch of no-name teams and even struggled to win some of those. I would love to play some of the teams out West, at their place. However, they have to agree to play us and somehow, IMHO, I feel most of them really don’t want to. Again, thank you for your post.

Up til now, most of the Pound Puppy fans had annoited themselves National Champions before the season had even been played. Now it looks like some of them were finally able to sniff thier rears and wake up as most dogs do.

If the Mutts of Athens run the table, then they deserve the Title game. Kudos to Richt and his crew.

If they don’t, they should still have a good season and get a Jan. 1 bowl game. I still see at least 2 losses in the SEC and watching the Gaytors (God, that hurts to say that!) play Auburn in the SEC Championship game.

The issue will be that the UGAy fans will whine just like they did last year. In fact they are still whining about last year. If they don’t win it all they will say it’s because the dog died or that Munson couldn’t travel to the away games. They are like liberals standing around thinking that they deserve something without working for it.

I think the preseason poll speaks more to the excellent program CMR has built at UGA than it does to who will win the BCSNC.

Remember that it was just in 2002 that we were all excited for having won our first SEC championship since 1982.

Will the Dogs win it all? The season has not even started.

They will have a great season if they play their opponents 1 at a time and not look ahead.

They could win a lot of exciting games and beat Tech, play in the SECCG, and win a bowl game over a really good team and I would be extremely happy.

You don’t have to win the BCSNC to be a winner and have a fun season. It would be great to be 14-0 and BCS champs, but it will take hard play and some luck too.

If we do as well this season as we did last season, I will be extremely happy.

I will always love the Georgia Bulldogs and support CMR regardless of a NC or not.

GO DOGS!!!!!

Congrats to the UGA fans - despite all the silly barking/crowing and less than kind remarks from opposing fans.

It’s fun to be preseason #1 - but it has little to no real value, other than to select who gets to wear the bullseye target first.

Imagine if lowly Ga Southern were to do the impossible (remember Appy State in The Big House?) and pull the big red rug out from under UGA? Ok, not likely but not impossible.

So enjoy it now, savor the excitement of the upcoming season, but don’t trap yourselves into believing it matters alot, as the polls are rather useless until October.

Good luck to ALL the SEC teams, and hopefully the Crystal Football will stay within the best conference in the land.

Who in the world said anything about going undefeated? The past two BCS champions had a combined 3 losses. You don’t have to go undefeated to win it all, especially with a schedule like Georgia’s.

I think the most important thing for Georgia is to start out strong the first half of the season. That will give them some wiggle room in the polls the second half of the season in what is admittedly a brutal stretch of away games. Simply put, the voters will forgive us if we drop a game to LSU, Florida, or Auburn. Heck, we might even get away with two losses out of those three depending on the situation.

It would almost be ashamed to go undefeated. The haters would have nothing to b!tch and moan about in the offseason. How boring.

Congrats to the Dawg fans from a Bama fan. I think you deserve to start out either #1 or #2 behind USC. Just don’t get to down on your team if you lose 2-3 games. I think UGA is going to be a really, really good team. The problem is that your schedule is just as brutal as uga is good. I also don’t see a nat’l title because even if you lose only 1 or 2 you’ll probably get left out of it by either an OHIO ST., West VA., OU,USC, or some other team that either goes unbeaten or finishes with 1 loss versus a 2 loss UGA team. And if you do end up winning the east you’re going to have yet another tough game against an LSU or Auburn team with a more seasoned qb. We’re still a year away. I remember in 2003 Auburn being preseason #1 or 2 in several polls. They stumbled to a 9-4 season which is still very good while LSU which started out ranked 15th surged to the nat’l title. Good luck and if you can somehow make it all the way with one loss only then I hope you get into the title game.

The Buckeye: How many times do you have to have you tail ends handed to you on a silver platter before you realize you can not hang with the SEC. What amazing arrogance on your part. So Michigan beat Florida last year. Even a blind squirrel will find a nut or two. Same goes for the little 10/11 conference. Maybe you should tell Tressel to loosen the tie and work on getting his team ready for the big game, something he just can not seem to do. You have an extra 7 to 10 days to get ready because you losers in your conference won’t play a Championship game like the SEC does. By the way, The Butteyes seem to always lose their bowl game. Florida Owns You, The Vols Own You, LSU Owns You! I wonder what SEC team will own you this year? Maybe Vandebilt.

Dawg Fan 1, Don’t worry about PROUDTECHFAN or Rick. Ga Tech has a special soft spot for the west, since that’s where they end up playing for their bowl games, if they qualify for one. Boise and Seattle know them well. I guess that’s where the Microsoft link comes from that Rick was talking about. Ga Tech would go 3-8, at best in the SEC. I am not a big fan of being #1 preseason, because no one has played a down of football, but the fact that the coaches think enough of our program to put us there speaks volumes about the job CMR and his coaching staff have done. I am proud to be a Dawg fan no matter what year it is or where we rank.

Nothing like having a bullseye painted on your back! The Gators are right where they need to be, Top 5 and with room for advancement. I never liked being ranked preseason #1, nothing to gain but eveything to lose. Let’s revisit this topic in December when the polls are real and we can see who the real continders are.

Heeeeerrrrrreeeeee come the GATORS! If you aren’t a Gator your Gator bait. See you in Jacksonville……

The reason Ohio State is always ranked high is because there is no competition in their schedule. They do play USC this year and I give them credit for that. However, once I’d like to see them play an SEC schedule. Ron Zook is now the toast of the Big Ten and he couldn’t win enough at Florida to stay there. Florida has to be one of the easiest places to win because of all the talent to recruit from just a few miles away.

i hate the fact that they release preseason rankings. i know it’s to generate hype around the early televised games, but they shouldn’t release a poll until week 4. that being said, it’s nice to see uga by the number 1. but i wish that they ha been ranked 2 or 3. just to give a little more motivation. it’s a lot better to sneak up on people than to play with a target on your back. plus, georgia plays 2 preseason top 10 teams and 5 of their total games are against top 20 teams. an the trip to south carolina shouldn’t be over looked. if georgia can pull this off, they should go down as one of the best teams in history.

And we don’t call games against Youngstown State, Ohio, (insert any Big 10 team here), or Illinois tough either. Have fun getting smacked around by USC, another team with too much speed and talent for the overrated Buckeyes. At least this time you won’t have to embarass yourselves in the BCS title game. I’m reading all the smack talk going on by the Buckeye and Vols fans being ticked about the Dawgs being picked No. 1. I can understand a little ribbing from the Vols fans since they are a big rival of UGA and they’ve spanked UGA the last couple a years. But where did the Buckeye fans come from? Ya’ll need to just chill. I’ve nothing against the Bucks but as many times as you’ve been given the beatdown by different SEC teams you should just avoid talking smack to the SEC altogether. 0-9 and being swept by South Carolina doesn’t bode well for you. And if you sneak past a good Georgia team or another SEC team to get into the title game then it will only be because of ESPN and other northern media bias. If UGA is way overhyped then we’ll find out over the course of the season. In the meantime I say let a dawg have its day in the sun. Being preseason #1 doesn’t mean you’ve won anything. But it does mean the other coaches have respect for your coach and program and that alone is a lot to be proud of. Good luck dawg fans.

None of the 3 are great teams by any measure and as a Bama fan I’ll be the first to agree that we’ve had our down years lately. But you say LSU sucks? Is this the same LSU that’s won 11 games or more for 4 straight years and the same LSU team that pounded you in the _ss last year after spotting you a 10-0 lead? Is it the same LSU team that’s won 2 BCS titles in the last 5 years. And you say they suck? What manner of an idiot are you? I’m a Bama fan so I’m definitely not a fan of LSU but to say they suck? This Vol fan is not upset about UGAy being ranked #1 PRESEASON COACHES POLL. I think it is funny along with being a kiss of death for the trembling chihuahuas of athens.

The irritation in all this comes from the fact that the Pound Puppy Nation believes that because they are PRESEASON #1 that they are going to win it all! A few do actually beleieve that they have to play the season and it will be a tough season given the schedule. However, most believe that all the teams they play are just going to lay down for them. This on top of last years “we got screwed” mantra because UGAy did not play for the National Title.

The Buckeyes: Just stop and go back to your Little 10/11 blog. Since 2002 you have basically done nothing. No National Titles. You won games in an otherwise mediocre conference. Never played in a conference title game. What about this do you not understand. Why don’t you leave the Little 10/11 and come join the SEC if you think you are that good? You are at best a 7-5 team possibly 6-6. The fact of the matter is that you do not have the recruiting competition that teams in the SEC have. So bascially you get the best of the pick of the otherwise slow Farmboys. You want to point out the past, so what have you done since 2002? A winning record? Yeah, but no titles. A bunch of no-shows in title games. Everyone wants to say that you were too slow for the NC game, yet you put a lot of DB’s in the NFL. It had nothing to do with speed, it had to do with game preparation and the lack thereof by Tressel. Just like UGAy last year, you did not take care of business. Couldn’t finish! No wonder all your midwest girls come south for the men who can finish. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

By Taking up for the SEC

My experience with Buckeye fans has been similar to the latest blogger. I remember working with a guy who was all mouth, and OSU this, and OSU that. Big deal! All mouth and nothing real to say. My blood runs Garnet and Black, but will take up for the fellow SEC teams. If OSU joined the SEC, you would not be at the top unless you really, really earned it. The SEC is the hardest conference in ball and has the BEST FANS, win or loss. The reason you keep seeing the same old troles in the PAC 10 and OSU’s conference is that there are 1 or 2 good teams that rule the ranks. With the SEC, it could be any of us, in any given year. I hate the dawgs too, but as a conference, we are the best. Spurrier and the Spurs in 2008!

VolstuckNga, I see your point. I know some UGA fans who think they’ve already won the title but a lot more of them are pretty reasonable. God knows as a Bama fan that some of our fans already believe we’ve won the 2010 title because of last years recruiting class. Your always going to have your share of unrealistic idiot fans no matter what program you pull for. I’ll be the first to tell ya we’ve got our share at Bama. I just say let the season play out. So many good teams in the SEC and teams that may not be at the top but can pull a big win here and there like Kentucky, Bama, South Carolina, Arky, etc. I do have to shake my head though at someone like an Ohio State fan ridiculing a good SEC team like Georgia. Or any SEC team for that matter. I figure if we won 7 as a very average SEC team last year we surely would have won 10 in the big 10, UGA, Florida, Auburn, LSU, and Tenn. probably would have all gone undefeated in the big 10 or 1 loss only. That’s how little I think of them right now.

Funny how many Tech people are on this blog. I have never known any other fanbase with so many whining fans and such jealousy for its rival that it pulls hard for that school’s opponent every week of the season. If Tech wants UGA to lose so badly, why don’t they just beat UGA themselves? Pretty pathetic if you think about it. Oh, and guess what, even if UGA loses 3-4 games this season, they’ll still be in the top 20. Thats much higher than Tech, who will have a ‘NR’ next to their name for the entirety of the season.

The Buckeyes: LSU ran circles around you in the title game and LSU had to take 3 OT’s to knock off Kentucky. I think last year Kentucky with Woodson at QB, would have beaten you. But that was last year and KY will be breaking in a new QB.

The Vols: Again we lost to LSU the past year in a very tight game. It was back and forth until the 4th quarter. I think we beat you too! This year! Senior RB and a very mobile QB that opens opens play action. I think we take you tyhis year too! The nice thing is that The Vols are flying under the radar and that is where I like us to be.

Bama: They destroyed us because we didn’t show up after half time. I think 6-6 Bama takes you too! Bama will be better this year.

Auburn: Okay you couldn’t score against LSU, so what makes you think you will score against Auburn. They played LSU very tight and it was defensive battle.

You have got some nerve talking about what UT and Bama has done lately. Bama is still recovering from sanctions and the lack of recruiting an offensive line under Shula. Hey but they did win their bowl game. Did you? Don’t think so!

Appy State took down Meeechigan. Don’t look past your little Division 2 opponent whoever they might be this year.

Face it there are 5 to 6 teams in the SEC that could win the Little 10/11 if they were in that conference.

What have we done lately? We’ve been saddled with probation but have still had at least 3 10 win seasons in the 2000s. Tenn. won 10 games last year. The bottom line is that if you put OSU in the SEC you’re an average 7 or 8 win team. And yeah, you would slip up and lose a gimme game like LA-Monroe once in a while if you had to play 6-9 bowl teams every year. At least we played LSU down to the wire last year and lost in the last minute. You got manhandled by LSU after being spotted 10 early points. Good thing a couple of late consolation tds made the final score look somewhat respectable. And do we need to talk about the humiliation the gators put on you in 06. Has a title game ever been more statistically lopsided? And your title in 02 is tainted by the way. What a bullsh! pass interference call thrown several seconds after the play was over. Miami won that game and you da well know it! Whoever wins our conference this year you are welcome to come down and take a 3rd straight lopsided beatdown. How many of these A__kickings can you take in a row? You must be looking for 0-10 against the SEC. Is that what you butteyes are looking for?

They have arch rival Ga Tech,Tenn and Alabama at home and last but not lease # 13 Arizona St on the road. This schedule is too tough!!! No one could beat this schedule. A 1979 grad. Go Dawgs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“The” Buckeye, Nice reminder that you are “The” Ohio State University. You are also “The” Runner Up of the decade.

SEC has better out of conference record than ANY other conference during the past 10 years. If you want to brag, go somewhere else. Down here we talk facts. And the facts are pOSU can’t hang with the SEC. Get over it before we make your children cry on national TV…..again.

Wow, could the AJC.com have buried this story any further? Front page of USA Today, top news story on every local TV show and national sports - but the AJC puts out a tiny one liner lead. I’m betting that if Ga Tech had been ranked #1 it would’ve been in elephant type. Even when you go the sports page it’s nowhere to be seen. Instead a line reads: “Some fans think UGA not so deserving.” Huh? Where is the AJC’s local pride? Did someone over there get kicked out of UGA awhile back?

What is up with this Buckeye moron? I just don’t get it.

Buckeye: The Cal game, both teams ranked in the top 10 0r 15 if I remember correctly. Cal won by 2 touchdowns which on paper seems like a butt womping, but in reality it turned in to a track meet with neither team wanting to really play defense. It came down to 2 plays. You take away the 2 plays (punt return and kick off return for td’s) and we have a totally different game.

Now let’s really think about this. We open up against a team that is ranked in the top 15. Who do you normally open up against? Alcorn State? Bowling Green? Miami of Ohio? Case Western Reserve? Ohio School for the Deaf, Dumb, and mentally deficient? (No Doubt Your Alma Mater) Do you really want to compare strength of schedule? That would be like you bringing a plastic spoon to a gunfight.

You were the one who wanted to make comparisons. The only reason you were close in the Title game was becasue you finally scored against the 3rd and 4th string defense. Miles made sure everyone got in the game. I even think the waterboy got a sack or tackle for loss on “The” Ohio State 1st Place Losers University. Give it up on the Cal game. At one point Cal was almost in the number one position til the screwed up at Oregon.

A loser is someone who “loses” their bowl game every year. Sounds more like a Buckeye to me than a Vol.

Face it the Little 10.5 Conference is mediocre at best.

Based on the strong finish last year, boatload of talent & tough schedule, the Dawgs definitely deserve that #1 ranking. I think we’ll prove that right out of the gate. We have the talent & potential to run the table, but it’s likely we’ll drop 1 (possibly 2). It’s largely dependent on injuries, execution, key turnovers, play calling & such. Either way…Dawgs are my favorite for the SEC & National Titles!

*HOW ‘BOUT THEM (#1 ranked) DAWGS!!!

I can not beleive I am doing this.

Florida vs Michigan: It was Carr’s last game. It is the only reason Meeechigan won. If Carr were returning, then Florida wins.

Florida vs UGA: UGA had 2 weeks to get ready for the game. Florida was just coming off playing LSU. Most teams if they have 2 weeks to get ready for the game will usually win. Except for Ohio State who can not be ready for a game even if you give them 6 weeks to get ready and play one less game than the rest of the nation.

Nice try on that one! Weak at best! Go back to your Pop Warner 10.5 Conference where the men are women and the women are men.

PA fan. “Better hope you don’t have to play any PA teams”???? You are talking about the 1981 and 1982 Sugar bowls, which I must admit were two of the best college football games I have ever seen. Pitt and Penn St won those games on like the last play of the game. But how is either of these teams a factor NOW in the national picture?? And if you think GT (or PS or Pitt) is going to get in UGAs way you’ve had way too many kamikazes. Are you really Mark May?

Mikey: Forget about PA Fan, he is jsut old and senile like the coach at Penn State, JoePa. Someone will give him his medication and then he will forget about anything he said. You are right, the teams from PA are a non-factor coming up.

Mountain Dawg: Please crawl back under your rock and come out when the season is over. UGAy looks good only on paper right now and Everbody has “Talent” and the “Potential” to go all the way. Based on your criteria “Everyone” deserves to be number one. You have to take care of business in all 13 games to have a shot at the title and if there is one thing that everyone has learned from last year is that the Pound Puppies continue to have a history of not taking care of business. The only poll that counts is the poll at the end of the season. If you are there, then kudos to the Pound Puppies and Coach Richt.

Almost time to put up or shut up!!!! Let’s get the season going!!!!!

Oh Yeah, I forgot! Buckeye fans and PA fans shut the hell up!

Hell yes, Georgia should be ranked first. Just ask any of the rednecks in S. Georgia. They believe that the Dogs should be ranked first every year. Then the season begins and that’s the end of that deal.

Win it all or not in 2008, look at where we are now. Where were we under Goff…rock bottom. Then under Donnan…respectable. Under Richt…contenders. How many other teams in the Mark Richt era have been this consistent or better: USC, Ohio State, Oklahoma and LSU. We are so fortunate to have Mark Richt’s leadership. And guess what? We probably only have him another 15 years or so. The dynasty is in place. Way to hire Vince Dooley!

The Buckeyes, You’ll send USC down to Bama? That makes about as much sense as your argument that the Small 10 is better than the SEC. Um, you guys got smashed TWO YEARS in a row my friend. Oh yeah, I also remember your crappy basketball team getting crushed. Must suck to be a suckeye. You guys are more than welcome anytime on the plains. I’ll even take you out for a beer or two to bury the pain and humiliation of a true SEC beat down.

Geez Buckeye, I warned you on an earlier post to quit while you were behind. You have cut down Ga, Fla, Ten, Aub, Ala, even SoCal, and they have all come back and drilled you worse in these blogs than TOSU gets drilled on the field every January. We won’t be hearing from you pretty early in the year when you go to LA and get pasted by USC, a team very much like a typical good SEC team.

Folks,

I hate to rain on the parade, but these rankings mean very little. Bias exists in this crappy system. If UGA manages to remain on top until the final BCS rankings come out…it will be a crap shoot from there. Anything can happen.

So let’s not get all bent out of shape when our teams get shafted in some way this season. Like good little BC$ sheep, let’s just hang on every word of ESPN and other media types as they talk about how good or bad our teams are. Let’s jaw at each other and talk about how deserving our teams are. And when it is all said and done…I don’t care who wins it all…it was just a beauty contest. Support the polls and the BC$.

Since the BCS era began, either preason number 1 or number 2 has played in each of the BCS National Championship games. It is important to be ranked near the top of the preseason poll. If you take care of business on the field, you’re already in a good spot to secure the trip to Miami in January. Hopefully the Dawgs will get that game against USC that most of us in the Bulldawg Nation wanted to see in the Rose Bowl.

UGA is returning 17 out of 22 starters. Lost 2 OL, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 DB when it comes to starters. And you don’t need one “hero” when you have a team with one of the most talented 2 or even 3 deep depth charts in the nation.

Dawgs, it’s an honor to have as many haters as we do! We say the same crap to OSU, USC, UF, LSU all the time. Isnt’ it great to hear it from them? And what’s going to make it even better is proving that UGA is truly the best team in the land at the end of this season.

GO DAWGS!!!!

Whether UGA wins the nat champ or not is no big deal to me but when you stack up their strengths, objectively, I have to give them the edge. These are: 1. a super defense which has always been the key for any strong UGA team 2. The best running backs in the country along with Clemson 3. A QB who has figured it out 4. A coach who has figured it out 5. Incredible depth- just awesome The rest comes down to the numerous luck factors-turnovers, penalties, play of special teams, injuries.

**First I must address “the buckeyes”. I think you have alot of nerves (or stupidity) for even blogging on here. You have not only been drilled 3 times in title games in the BULL CRAP SERIES by my SEC brotheren, but lest us not forget, you were drilled by a set of Gators that play with a round ball instead of an oblong one, in the NCAA’s. You had 3 heisman trophy candidates on a team that lost to “The” Vols in the Citrus bowl a few years back. Get over yourself man. Hell, even the Cocks beat you in the Outback Bowl. How demoralized you must have been to lose to a school whose mascot is a choked chicken. No offense, SC, I love yah little sister. Anyhow, you know the old saying “he who lives in a glass house shouldn’t throw stones. I wonder what addition of the SEC is going to “Womp” your azz (if I may borrow that funny word from you for a sec). I think Georgia could do it as long as they can lose their mental block when playing Tenn and SC. Florida could do it again if they can keep SEC blitzes off Tebow before he is put out for the season. Hell, even the Vols could return to the Big Stage. This year is starting to feel like 1998 all over again. LSU and Auburn are others. It really doesn’t matter “the buckeyes” what we play or where we play it. SSDD, that is an anacronym I borrow from a book Stephen King wrote called “Dream Catcher”. It means “same s** different day”!!! Oh, this just in, a man who was seen wearing a Buckeye shirt drowned today after attempting to walk around the world. Sheesh. Try chartering a boat you idiot. Okay, that’s enough. We’ll see ya’ll in January in one SEC color scheme or another..ta ta.

Now as for UGA. I for one would rather avoid a preseason top ranking for obvious reasons. You DO have a brutal schedule which is more than I can say for Often Slammed Univerity. You will indeed get everyone’s A game being a target as you are. I think you could be the best team in the country and lose a couple. If my beloved Volunteers can’t do it, then you guys have my blessing. After all, its only been 28 years. So go on, represent. And if it is the Muckeyes you happen to face, well……….you know what to do. God bless All fans of the SEC. May you all have fun and success in your own worlds. BEWARE of the BIG ORANGE!! We are dangerous when we are ignored. Peace…..I’m OUT!!**

Personally, I hope the UGA Leg-Humpers are undefeated coming into the UT game. It will be so much sweeter then when the VOLS whip some Leg-Humper azz between the hedges! you know, I can see how many of you have very limited football knowledge, I bet that Georgia will go undefeated this is my opinion and Im sticking with it,but lets discuss which team will have the ability to beat Georgia: 1- many experts say Arizona state. well, arizona state has good QB but no O-line and there D is average, Georgia is way better on both sides of the ball. Georgia will win (big) 2- Many say southcarolina, lets see, south carolina play georgia hard, but they have a brand new QB and poor running attack. their D is good but georgia’s is better. no chance to beat the top dawg with a freshman QB and beside Georgia 3- Tennessee, TN is gonna be a good team, however GA will have 2 weeks to prepae and Im not really sol od their QB, beside Georgia is still fuming since the last game, Georgia wins 4- LSU, this will be a good game, lsu lost too many players since last year NC, including ther QB. Georgia should win 5- Auburn, well they have a new O coordinator, I dont see it as a disadvantage, but losing their D coordinator is. they have a new QB and Georgia plays Auburn better at Auburn, Georgia wins close one 6- Florida,I dont have much to say it can go either way but I think Georgia have a chip on their shoulders, most media attributed their win to injured Tebow, I think Georgia D will be dominant and win a classic one. here you go this is my argument, if you know better speak up! go dawgs

Hey dawg1212,

what are you talking about worried about the corners??? maybe the ends? The corners are 2nd and 3rd team all-SEC. The back-up (bryan evens) was a starter and probably just as good. Corner is our second best thing on the team besides LB’s….

There is so much talent on this team, but from a discipline standpoint a good number of them are out of control. If any more get arrested, there won’t be enough to field a team. C’mon Dawgs, grow up, show a little class, dignity, and stop acting like thugs! You are going to throw the best chance you have at a National Title away by acting like a bunch of street thugs! You have to hold yourselves to a higher standard!

Also, its time to kick Baldwin off the team. We kicked Josh Johnson and Hebron off for the same offenses. The guy just seems like trouble. Hope he wasn’t that good.

Why is this stuff not happening in Knoxville, Columbia, or Gainesville? B/c when I go to ESPN.com in a second, Georgia will probably be the only school in the SEC that has this as an article on their pages. Disgusting!!!!
