Hitting the road with the Bulldogs?

The Georgia Bulldogs’ journey to a possible BCS Championship will include stops in Tempe, Ariz., Jacksonville and Baton Rouge, La.

With Tennessee, Vandy and Georgia Tech visiting Athens next season, is that enough to keep you here, or will you be traveling with the Bulldogs?

Who do you feel will give Georgia its biggest challenge? Are you confident the Bulldogs will make it to the BCS title game?

Give us your thoughts on the Bulldogs’ chances in 2008.

May fly to Tempe. May fly to Lexington, KY. Schedule is tough - that’s been in every blog so far. Barring injuries, and with a little luck, I will be very excited about this team.

I think that Baton Rouge and Jacksonville will be the toughest test for the Bulldawgs. Look over the records of UF and LSU and You will see that They beat over 80% of the teams that They play at home, even in “off” years. Then consider the fact that these teams have won the past two BCSNC games. I am not too worried about Tempe. Western teams, with the exception of USC {the real one}, are not noted for Their defense, and UGA is developing on of the best Ds in the country. I think SEC speed has become a cop out for coaches from other conferences. UGA’s defense is fast, especally at the LB and DE spots, but They tend to be smaller than most LBs and DEs in other top programs. It is Their hard hitting, hard nosed play and the aggressive way that They are used by Their DCs that gives these guys the edge.

I am no longer a UGA season ticket holder for football. I’ve already bought ASU season tickets (for $99) which will include the UGA game in the adjacent section to the rest of the Dawg fans. I also plan on going to Jacksonville.

Although I think playing ASU (at 5:15pm local time) will be a stiff challenge, I still feel like playing in Baton Rouge is the hardest of all.

I don’t make predictions on the games. It doesn’t really matter what is said on blogs….the important stuff happens on the field. Even so, Go Dawgs!

The Dawgs will be very good. Good enough to make it through the season undefeated? I’m not sure. Either way, I am traveling to Arizona to watch them play. I don’t think they will have much problem with the Sundevils but I am worried about LSU, Florida, Tenn and especially Auburn.

The Tempe trip will be the most fun of all…the Bulldawg Nation should be irate if we don’t put 40+ points up on the no-defense playing Pac-10 Pretenders. If they break 14 points we know we’ll be in trouble once the real schedule gets into swing. (I’ll give ‘em five field goals, though.) That 115-degree heat is a dry heat, anyway. Bring the pickle juice.

I just read the article about Matt Jones. How depressing! I remember His rookie year, the kid had everything, big frame, soft hands, good speed, the ability to run after the catch, and a QBs knowledge of the game. I thought He would be another Hines Ward. I wondered why His production had fallen off so much, guess now I know. He could have been a great WR, but He threw it all away. That is just sad. I hope CMR and other college coaches can use Him as an example to Their teams, then maybe something good can come of this.

Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is one of the toughest places to play in the country. The fans make sure that their team leaves nothing on the field. Next toughest away game is the annual bloodletting in JAX.

Agree shane, sad about Matt Jones. His rookie year it looked like he was going to be a world beater. I hope he is single, his family will suffer also. When will these guys learn that what is given to them can be taken away in an instant.

Cuz, it’s not just the athletes, there were some young professionals here in Albany back in the 80s and 90s that stuffed promising careers up Their noses. I HATE coke! Agree with You on LSU. I haven’t been to a game in Baton Rouge in years. Some of Us have reserved rooms in N.O. and will have a chartered bus take us to the game. It will be a hoot! Forty South Ga rednecks in the Big Easy. I don’t want to give Them too much warning, lest They beef up Their police force and call out the Guard. I guess if that City could survive Katrina and the Sugar Bowl a few more red necks can’t hurt it. What do You think of Logan Grey? I think He will see action this year. Also, Sutherland and Chandler are graduating, Allen changed His mind, and Ward transfered. Figgins and Ros are more blockers than recievers, and White is a WR TE hybrid. Yet We are offering only one TE and no FBs. Can You see a spread O in Our future?

I want the SEC. The national championship would be great but lets calm down and win the SEC first. In fact, lets slow down and make sure we are prepared for Ga Southern first, then USC, then Central Michigan and so on. One game at a time guys. Can’t make it to Tempe but it would be a fun trip. ASU will test our D more than we think and their D will be looking to make a statement as well. They are poitning to this game just as much, if not more, than we are.

As a Bama and SEC fan I would like to see UGA make a good showing in Tempe. But I think we as SEC fans are always way to quick to downplay other conferences, especially the PAC-10. After all, USC pounded Arkansas and Auburn in 4 blowout games. Well, actually Auburn only lost by 14 in one game but the other 3 were blowouts. Arizona St. has a habit of ambushing #1 ranked teams in the desert. They did it years back to USC, did it again to 2 time defending champion Nebraska in 1996, and probably have done it a few other times that I can’t think of. Dennis Erickson is about as good as they come in coaching. 2 NCs at Miami and an 11 win team at Oregon St. that many thought was the best team in the nation at the end of that year. Can you freaking imagine how hard it is to build Oregon State into a national power. We’re talking Oregon State! On paper I think UGA just has too much physical talent for ASU but if ASU pulled out the win it really wouldn’t be that much of a shocker. We as SEC fans laugh about the PAC-10’s lack of defense. Guess what? They probably laugh about our lack of offensive imagination and lack of points. Just some food for thought guys. Good luck in Tempe Dawg fans!

The game in Tempe will be difficult for UGA. But, nowhere near the test of Baton Rouge, Jacksonville, Auburn, and Columbia. I would rank the ASU game as the 5th toughest of all UGA will play on the road in 08. This is without mentioning the trip to JAX. UF will probably be undefeated for that game. UGA probably will not. However, I am not downplaying that game with ASU. UGA fans need to seriously consider adapting that old cliche’ of one game at a time this season. Remember, Central Michigan won the MAC last year and returns 17 starters. South Carolina beat us in our own house last year, and they return 10 starters on a defense that shut down our offense at home. ASU returns 13 starters with 9 starting seniors. Alabama still remembers the sting of that OT loss that changed their season last year. UT spanked us the last two years. LSU is practically unbeatable at home. UF will NOT forget the endzone celebration. We have blown Auburn out the last two years. We have also won 7 in a row over GT. EVERY game in 08 (with the exception of Vandy, Kentucky, and Georgia Southern) is up for grabs. Every opponent will be ready and waiting for UGA. The Dawgs are going to have their work cut out for them this season. Especially without even knowing who our kicker is going to be. Lets keep our heads on straight and hope we open 08 the way we closed 07. Go Dawgs!

shane, just got a call from Governor Bobby Jindal from Lousiana. Now that he knows you are coming he is issuing extra ammo to the Guard. Man you should not have posted on a public site. I agree with most of BufordDawgs comments except the one about LSU being practically unbeatable at home. What is it that everyone thinks LSU is so tough at home? They’re tough because right now they are a loaded and formidable football team. But I can tell you personally as a Bama fan that LSU gets awful quiet when they’re being dominated. We beat them 17 in a row in the famed Death valley between 1969 and 2002. It was in Saban’s 2nd or 3rd year at LSU that they finally broke the stranglehold we had on them. And even though they’ve handled us the last 5 years while we’ve been down from probation its still isn’t that loud when we go down there cause 17 beatdowns over 32 years in your own house tends to quiet them cajuns down just a bit.It was 17 in 32 years because we played them back to back down there when the SEC split into divisions in 1992. I went to the Auburn-LSU earthquake game in 1988 and man was it quiet. It was quiet for 59 minutes and 53 seconds because Auburn dominated LSU. When LSU hit a winning td with 6 seconds left then and only then was it loud. Other than that it was fairly quiet the whole game. Tennessee is the same way. I think Florida and Auburn get pretty loud consistenly throughout a game but UT and LSU really are fairly quiet crowds, especially if you smack them early. Take control early Dawg fans and you won’t have much to worry about from the LSU crowd.

Shane, when I was much younger, a friend of mine used to do some stupid stuff. He was only a friend of mine. I told him he really needed to stop because that stupid stuff costs a lot of money, but he didn’t care. Then, he grew up, and realized that it wasn’t worth it. I guess you have to live life for yourself and see what works for you. My buddy hasn’t done that in 20 years and he’s better off for it. I guess professional people make tons of money and get caught up in different things It’s amazing that people with NO money get caught up in the same thing. Now explain that to me. It’s not about clout, obviously. I believe it’s your drive and what you want for yourself. Cocaine has bankrupted so many people that if that’s the course you chose, then you are just a number. It’s only time before you join the bankrupt and downtrowdden.

My parents are flying to Tempe for the game but I am not, I will be in Statesboro. Though I think Arizona St. will be tough(there are many games that you can point out on our schedule that will be tough), I think that when we play LSU it will be our toughest test. Even though LSU is not predicted to be as good as they were last year, they still will be very good. Plus the have the X factor working with them, Death Valley in Baton Rouge, at night. I believe that is one of the toughest places to play and win a football game at cause the atmosphere is so rowdy and very, very loud.

If I could guarantee a game this year, it would be Tennessee. Many people are thinking that might be a blackout but lets not get to carried away with that. After losing to them for two straight years and getting handled pretty good by them, I think we are going to be pumped and ready for some payback. I think Coach Richt is gonna show game film from last year and that is gonna fire our team up.

Thanks to ESPN Game Plan I get to see most UGA games. As for the hardest game, they all have to be looked on as the upcoming game is the one that can beat you. Take care of them one at the time and the season will take care of itself. Looking ahead will get you in trouble fast. Georgia Southern would love to be the Appy State of 08. Keep your eyes on the game at hand you old hairy dogs and we’ll see how it all pans out. Don’t worry about the tuff schedule, remember the swiss cheese effect one bite at the time. To the O line, clean up your act boys! We need you to pave the way for our backs to get 100 yard plus games and Matt to have the protection he needs to get his completion rate into the 65-70% range. We should have some great breakout receivers this year. Can’t wait for kickoff.

Bama_12titles, Love Your name Man, I’ll bet You have an altar in Your den with lighted candles, a houndstooth hat, a pack of Chesterfields, and a bottle of sippin’ whiskey. I like Your plan, getting an early lead and shutting up all those drunk Cajuns would suit Me just fine, but I am not counting on it. I just hope a couple of Miles’ “fourth and dumb” plays come back to haunt him. I in no way mean to belittle Az St, I just don’t see Them as the most dangerous opponent UGA faces this year. We can’t forget the Gators either, with Their “much improved” defensive backfield. I look for Meyer and company to come up with a new scheme to stop Knowshon. Like having the safetys make a tackle, instead of covering Their eyes and screaming like Girls. I hope You can make it to Athens for the Bama game, see You there!

Hello fellow Dawg fans. A note to those of you using ASU season tickets. While explaining to my beautiful (yet football knowledge challenged) girlfriend why we would pay $99 to go to the game…she asked a stupid question. “What happens to all the other tickets for ASU’s season…maybe they should give them to a local (Arizona) charity to give to underprivileged kids? Give them an opportunity to experience college life.

Ok, not so stupid…maybe the AJC could spearhead a campaign to get the other tickets from DAWG fans. We could show the other side of our “redneck”…that being southern pride and hospitality. AJC?

PS…go DAWGS…want them to be #2 in the polls all year…play OSU (SEC vs OSU again) and of course beat them…J

ASU will not be able to stop Georgia’s offense or their pass rush. Heat will not be an issue; depth will not be an issue; distance might, but not enough to earn the Sun Devils a win over a team they do not match up well with physically.

Georgia wins the game in Tempe by ~10-14 points.

LSU has the depth and the skill to take Georgia to the wall in Baton Rouge. Same for Auburn, and both are road games. One of these is the most likely loss—and one of these teams will win the West, so the Dawgs might see either of them twice.

The UT game and the South Carolina game are both key SEC East contests. Both are revenge games. The Vols will keep it close, but Cutcliffe is gone. I see a Georgia victory in this one, by about 7 points. The Gamecocks will not keep it close. Georgia will win in Columbia in a rout, by a 15-20 point margin which could be even worse if Richt were not so benevolent. The Gamecocks will likely be 6-6 or 7-5. That’s it.

The game of the year in the SEC is Georgia-Florida. The winner wins the East, and gets a shot at the SEC title (and the BCS title game, likely against Ohio State, who should beat USC in their early-season matchup)). The loser likely will be in a BCS bowl, but shut out of a title shot. My biased pcik is Georgia, primarily because of the Gators’ shoddy pass defense (they lost another DB for the year this weekend). Stafford and Moreno will win the game in a replay of last year’s contest. Dawgs by 7.

The Tech game, by the way, will be no contest. The Jackets will finish 5-7, their bowl streak will end, and they will end the year by losing to the Dawgs for the eighth straight time—this time by more than 20. It’s going to be a long rebuilding year on the Flats.

Oh, and one last thing—sorry, Phil Steele, but Notre Dame is NOT going to a major bowl game this season. They are looking at a 5-7 or 6-6 record. They will beat Navy this time, though.

Dam Heel, that was some pretty good insight. I agree with you on most, but SC always gives us fits. I don’t know why, but they do. The Vols also have me a bit worried, considering that they spanked us last year. Auburn will be tough no matter if they changed out every player from the previous year. Florida and Alababma for dam sure will make us earn a win. Gonna be a long season. We’ll see if these dawgs have the heart of a championship team.

Provided the dawgs are healthy and off probation, ASU is going down. Hope they don’t take Bama too lightly after wins at South Carolina and ASU. The scary stretch, though is at LSU, down in Jax, at Kentucky, at Auburn. (I think I got that right). Obviously one of the toughest schedules in ‘08. Great enthusiasm dog food. Erickson is a great college coach. Unfortunately for you, your stands will have a sizable Bulldawg Nation contingent. The twelth man effect will be enough to fire up our defense. As Erk used to say, if the other team doesn’t score, we don’t lose. Okay, I will grant you some points, but our D is to fast and too strong for us to come out with anything but a win. Knowshon and King, will slice and dice their way to the endzone several times apiece. I wonder if they have a new dance planned for this year?

Don’t know who the guy was that wrote the post that the last time UGA won a national championship was when the Bear was alive. But man that was funny! I knew UGA was still in the 1 club but I didn’t realize it had been almost 30 years back into the same era as the Bear. Talk about living in the past. And to think UGA fans like to say we Bama fans live in the past. If we do live in the past its the very recent past as in the 90s and not the 80s. That dude must be a Tech fan and not a Bama fan. If he were a Bama fan he would have realized that at least we won a national title in the 90s and were the 4th winningest program of the 90s behind Fla. State, Nebraska, and Florida. The only thing that can keep Bama down is probation and guess what. Aint no probation anymore. I guess now that the probation of the 2,000s is over we can just return quickly to the status quo. You had a great run while we were down LSU and Auburn, but the natural order of the football universe in the West is about to be restored.

He took His brand new football team and won championships with it, Bear never did that. I think Saban will build a winner at Bama, but He has a lot of work to do. His team just flat out quit on Him at mid-season last year, so He has to get rid of the bad apples and start over. That will take some time. Why don’t You wait untill They actually so something before You start talking trash.

I used to go to the Columbia game every other year. I have had some great times tailgating with the large ammount of Dawg fans and even USC fans. But now my daughter is twelve and she loves to watch Dawg games with her Dad. Since she is in a wheelchair, we watch them at home now. She and I may make the trip to St. Simons and watch the game in a restaurant there. Our family house at St. Simons is just two blocks from the Village and Pier.

Obviously LSU and FLA will test us, but I think the AUB will be a tough-a$$ game. I don’t understand why we don’t have the hardest schedule in the country. Please feel free to show me who has a tougher one. Whitney, I like your fire!!

I have been to 77 of the last 80 UGA games, home and away. I’m not about to stop now. I’ll be there every game and every play to cheer on my DAWGS this year! It’ll be a tough fight, but it’ll be fun all the way. Go Dawgs!

Will be in the DAWG POUND for all the home games. A good chance of going to Tempe and watching them tear up the Sundevils. And of course heading down to Jacksonville via St.Simons (BEACH PARTY)to watch the DAWGS make it 2 in a row. Is it August 30th yet? I can’t wait.

Motorhome to all home games + most away - booked the AZ flight & hotel back in March- Then, the mother of all vacations for a Dawg - head down to Baton Rouge in the motorhome on Thurs. Sunday after the showdown, we head straight to South Ponte Vedra Beach for the warm up week, then park it across from Alltel day of the WLOCP. Hopefully, we’ll book our Miami trip that Sunday. The only bad part is that we’ll miss being at Kentucky in person - have to get some catch up work done that week.

It’s gonna be a WILD RIDE!! Go Dawgs!!

the 2008 georgia bulldogs are guranteed a spot in the BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME IN MIAIMI thanks to the most explosive offence in college football. not a single team exists with the ability to put a stop to the arsenal of offensive weapons that the dawgs posess.no matter how tough the scheaudle is down the back stretch the dawgz will come out unbeaten in the east and claim yet another sec title, then on to miaimi where well embaress whoever we play(like we did with hawaii). and last but not least ,to those who say georgia has no “D” remember hawaii and their unstoppable offence.so stop hating and give credit where credit is due and its due to the georgia bulldogs.

I think you will soon find the president of UGA facing a lawsuit for not taking action on the recent simple battery arrest against UGA players.

Today, Richt announced no suspension and he would handle it in house? I have been a life long dawg fan (Class of 68), but it appears to me that CMR is letting the “thug” image begin to take hold at UGA. I definitely want a NC, but not at the cost of our integrity. Very disappointing.

I know the family of the girl targeted in the incident involving the arrest of Anderson and Sturdivant and they are just furious at the lack of response and responsibility of the university and the athletic department.

They are in the process of fil

Hey Dawgs,

Greetings from Tempe. I just wanted to let you all know that we are excited to have you guys come in to play some good football.

The Devils should be a tough match for you, and it might end up coming down to special teams. If the Devils can change their slow start ways of last season and hang in with you in the first half, look out…but if you are up by at least 2 scores at the half…you might be able to run away with it.

Let’s all cheer for a great game, some good wholesome southwestern hospitality, and an injury free game. This one will go down in the record books as one of the most exciting games ever.

oh yeah…dont forget your sunscreen….we still hit the low 100’s well into October…

I’ll be in Athens for the first 2 games, skipping South Carolina so I can head out to Las Vegas before spending the week in Arizona. Will see you in Tempe. I’ll be back in Athens for the next 3 home games. Then headed to Baton Rouge, and Jacksonville for sure. I’ll skip Kentucky, and then off to Auburn. Then 1 more at home to close out the season against those bees from Atlanta. I think our biggest challenge is ourselves. As for the BCS game who knows when it comes to sports writers, I mean they did snub Auburn who was undefeated a few years back. Otherwise, as long as we handle our business week in and week out we will win. Then it will be up to the writers and the BCS to snub another SEC school.

I always worry about the ‘gators’ and why not; they have kicked out bottom more times than I care to remember in the past 15 years; there are no easy SEC opponents so it will be tough but if we win out, we should be National Champs without the BCS Bowl as that will be an easier game that at least 3 on our regular schedule.

Being rated #1 BEFORE the season starts doesn’t really mean too much. What will be the excuse when, at midseason, the dogs, yes, that is spelled correctly, are 3-3 or maybe even 2-4? All preseason picks and ratings do is swell heads, not scores! They may not be as good as you think. Besides that, are they all out of jail at this time and available? YEA! Go, jaildogs!
