O Atlanta, how shall you fare in Canada?

The Braves travel to Toronto this weekend to face the embattled Blue Jays to close out this season’s installment of interleague play.

Atlanta is 7-5 against American League teams this year. With Wednesday’s win over the Brewers, the Braves (39-41) stand four games behind Philadelphia in NL.

Bobby Cox will face in the opposing dugout former Brave Cito Gaston, whom he has managed, has had as a coach on his staff and faced in the 1992 World Series. Gaston, who led Toronto to World Series titles in 1992 and ‘93 and had not managed a baseball squad for more than a decade before taking over last week, manages a Blue Jays (38-42) team that is more than 10 games behind Boston in the AL East. The team is 3-3 under Gaston.

With the Phillies coming to the Ted next week, what are your expectations of the Braves this weekend?

Should the team continue to rest the ailing Chipper Jones? Should Brent Lillibridge get some playing time? Who would constitute your lineup?

And how will the Braves finish off the first half of the season?

If Chipper returns tonight, and Kotsay comes back before the Phillies series, they’ll be in better shape. As it is, their offense is rather listless without them.

The Braves (I hear) are considering trading for another “impact bat” to help out - someone along the lines of Xavier Nady or Raul Ibanez.

The Blue Jays are hot right now, and their offense is clicking, so unless he Braves’ pitching (and bats) steps it up, it could be 2 of 3 for the Jays or even a sweep. And if that happens, and the Braves limp out of the Phillies series, the Braves season could be in peril.

I would only use Chipper as a DH and not risk further injury to his leg. The Philly series is more important because each game is a 2 game swing in the standings. I would also put Yunnel back at short and tell him to continue to play with the same spunk and bravado that has made him successful. Maybe this spunk will carry over to some of the other members of the team who look like zombies when the camera pans the dug out catching your hero picking his nose again.

Let's be optimistic and trust that the Braves have had enough bad news for the 2008 baseball year. Rest Chipper long enough for his body to heal (as best an older baseball body can), then bring him back. With players coming back from the DL, we will be better. With our "new" pitchers getting experience, we will be stronger in the long run. Remind our right fielder to put his contact in. He can't be this bad all season. Hopefully, they will all be on fire for the balance of this season. That will be enough for me.

one thing i know for sure is that bobby needs to start batting Frenchy 8th! I am a big fan of Jeff but he needs less pressure right now! Bats gotta get it going! Our pitching has been incredible and its high time we take advantage!!!! GO BRAVES

Can’t we find some backups that hit better than Corky Miller (.100), Ruben Gotay (.211) and Greg Norton (.207)?
