Who would Georgia rather face: Miami or Stanford?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Two games into the College World Series, Georgia is sitting pretty.
The Bulldogs posted their second straight come-from-behind victory Monday, rallying from a three-run deficit to down Stanford. Now, they’ll be able to rest up and enjoy the sites and sounds of Omaha until Friday, when they’ll face the winner of Miami and Stanford’s elmination game.
Which team do you think Georgia would rather face?

Stanford. I didn’t see anything from them tonight that was too scary. In the end it really doesn’t matter. The Stanford-Miami game should stress both pitching staff while the Dawgs rest. Great win! Go DAWGS!!!!

I’m a Tech guy, and I’ve been impressed on the way UGA is playing. I think Stanford may be the better draw for the team. Miami is a very dangerous team. Who knows what’ll happen. I still think UNC is the team to beat.

We DEFINITELY don’t want to face Miami again! Tonight’s game was one of the best I’ve seen—pro or college! Home run or not? I say it was.

Stanford, no doubt, but it’s nice to know that whoever it is, they’ll have to beat us twice, which will be very difficult to do, and we’ll only have to beat them once to make it to the finals!

Great win!!! I love my DAWGS!!!! I think I would rather play Stanford, but bring on Miami too, their fans having really been cocky on the GA’s ESPN board saying that they gave the game to us. In fact, I change my mind, I want to play Miami!!!!!!!

It was NOT a homerun. it hit in foul territory on the upper part of the wall pad. An inch higher is a different story and it’s a 3-run homer. Tough luck, but baseball is a game of inches. One inch higher and it hits the foul pole.

It has to be Stanford. Miami’s pitching staff seems deeper than Stanford’s and we had many more opportunities against the Cardinal. Plus, our higher seeding makes us the home team against them, right?

I think Stanford is the obvious choice, as they only have one scary bat to Miami’s 4 or 5…I just hope it’s a 20-19 game and both teams use all of their pitchers…

FOOTBALL is the game of inches, not baseball, no matter what those r-tards on ESPN say. Massanari’s was a home run. It hit right above line on the padding and bounced over. It was fair. Glad the dawgs didn’t lose on that…
By Home Run

Stop it on slow motion and pause on the first replay of the Massaneri hit. It should have been ruled a home run, but for all you people biased against UGA, you will have to admit that at worst it is a ground rule double. It hit the padding square in the center of the yellow line (which is like chalk that any part of it is fair) and kicked over to the right of the pole.
Go Dawgs!!!!!!!!!!1

It was a HOMERUN!! 1st of all, the yellow line is not in the center of the foul & fair line! The yellow line was 6 inches to the left of the middle of the foul pole!! IF IT WAS IN THE MIDDLE, ITS A HOMERUN!! It looked like the check swing call in the miami game with runners on 1st and 2nd for GA and the 3rd base umpire said he went around, WHEN CLEARLY HE BARELY MOVED THE BAT!! OH WELL, WE STILL WON!!! GOOOOOO DAWGS!!!!! National championship in football this year and world series winners!! IT IS GREAT TO BE A BULLDOG!!!

At first, I thought it was gone but why does the yellow on to of the padding extend out past the pole in foul territory on the blue wall in the corner. If you look at the foul pole is wider above the padding than the strip on the wall. The ball clraely hits the top of the wall to the right of the pad on the blue wall but the ball is clearly in line with the foul pole and bounces up with the foul pole….SO IT CLREARLY WAS GONE…Look at how much wider the pole is where it meets the padded wall.
I still say the play at 1st was hogg wash becasue his toe was not on the bag,
Too bad we have ESPN and now umps against the DAWGS…..

We want Stanford. Better match up at this point. Their team is not as deep and they’ll be taxed after tonight and wed vs Miami. I think that gives us a better shot to advance to the finals.
As for the home run….why did the ball kick to the right like that after it hit the padding? BECAUSE IT HIT THE “FAIR” POLE! THAT’S A HOMER CHILDREN!

this is big news in UGA athletics. I guess when you can’t win a National Championship in Football or Basketball, College Baseball is something to get excited about. Well this will last for a few more days. Miami will send them back. Go Gators.

Did anybody else notice that the padding on the wall to the RIGHT of the ball flipped up when the ball hit? Several inches of the padding came up off the wall because the button holding it down was loose. There is no way the ball hit the far right part of the padding in foul territory - it had to be over some part of the yellow line, thus being at the very least a ground rule double. Thankfully things worked out anyway and we scored a couple of runs and Fields was able to hold it together long enough to win the game. Go Dawgs!
By the way HarvinDuhMan, what you got to brag about in football or basketball this year? UGA should have knocked TBowtie out of the Heisman race with that embarrassing loss, and I believe the SEC championship rings are on the fingers of the UGA basketball players… By the way, the buzzer just went off so your jean shorts are dry.

First off it was NOT a homerun. No matter where it hits the yellow line and no matter where that yellow line is placed in realtion to how wide the foul pole is…IT STILL HAS TO CROSS ON THE INSIDE OF THE FOUL POLL TO BE CONSIDERED FOUL. But who cares we won….thats all that matters.
As for Harvin DA MAN-This is a big deal…you would think so to if UF was in the CWS and sitting 2-0….but they aren’t….they are at home like you watching UGA with the rest of the nation. Basketball and Football aren’t the only sports with NC’s. However I could see how you would only bring those 2 up since you have recent NC’s in those sports. Bring on the Canes. We’ll send them packing much like Henne sent The Gators packing.

The ball was above the yellow stripe bringing the pole into play. The ball was within the confines of the pole therefore,in bounds (fair ball). In baseball on the line is in bounds, whereas in football on the line is out of bounds.
By BrizDawg
June 17, 2008 8:02 AM | Link to this
Actually, if a ball HITS the foul pole it’s a home run, and if a ball hits the chalk of a line it’s in fair territory, so it DOES make a difference where the yellow line is.
We would have had a better view of the thing if ESPN didn’t have five cameras trained on Massanari’s wife. OK, so she was Miss Nevada and she’s pretty, but there’s an intense ballgame going on and I want all cameras ON THE GAME. Zoom in on her between innings or something.

Stanford obviously.
There is a flaw in the way the horizontal yellow line on top of the wall extends past the foul line. Further, the outside of the foul pole should be in line with the outside of the foul line, which it isn’t.
I’m glad that the next batter drove in two runs because I think the umpires made the right call. The NCAA needs to fix that flaw.

I left the bar after the 6th inning and missed the bad home run call. Just watched it on ESPN. It hit the top of the wall on top of the yellow foul line and clipped the foul pole. The foul pole is slightly behind the wall. That is a home run. I had the benefit of pausing the video at the time it hit the wall and foul pole and the umpire had to make a real time judgement. Tough one to make on the field but it was a home run. In hindsight it is no big deal as they one the game. Go Dawgs!

While I am obviously glad Ga. won it was not a homerun and the slow motion look at it proved it. It looked like a home run on TV because of the angle of the camera shot. If you had of been looking at it from home plate you would have seen the the little wall pole and big foul pole are accurately lined up and that the ball hit foul of “Both” poles. The announcers were showing their geometrical ignorance unfortunately.

Stanford. I don’t think Stanford could beat Georgia twice, but Miami has the power game and the pitching depth to spoil the party.
As for the home run and the conspiracy theories… give it a rest. There are no outfield umpires at the CWS. That guy called it correctly as the field is layed out. The thing you can see is that the ball was right of the yellow line on the outfield fence. How many replays did the ump get to see before calling it? Pretty good job considering the answer is none. The real problem is how the field is marked, with any part of the foul pole being fair, yet the line below it doesn’t cover the width of the pole. That needs to be rectified.
