Feeling better about Braves’ pitching?

Do the performances turned in by Braves starters Glavine and Campillo Tuesday in the double-header sweep of the Mets have you feeling relieved about the Atlanta’s prospects for at least the near future?

Do they help you forget for a while about the Smoltz, Soriano and Chuck James sagas?

Has Campillo earned himself a spot in the rotation after his three-hit, six inning effort Tuesday?

Sound off here…

Campillo was lights out tonight, definitely should get at least one more start. Glavine pitched well also but age has really caught up to him…happy retirement to you at the end of the year!!! James is garbage and should not be called up again until he can establish a solid 3rd pitch. The bottom line to the starter question is if Smoltz is going to the bullpen, the Braves MUST TRADE FOR A TOP END STARTER and I believe the Braves have enough pieces that a trade can be pulled off.

One thing still bothers me though……why are the same relievers pitching the same day; this is absolutely ridiculous….give Stockman a chance or at least keep the long reliever Bennett in for 2 if not 3 innings…..the game tonight would have been 6-0 if Bennett pitched the 8th and possible even the 9th instead of using (however great they have been) tired relievers….is Bobby trying to burn out the bullpen…it is starting to look that way to me…KUDOS to that bullpen right now though…wow

With today’s performances, the team shows why hope springs eternal for this Jeckle and Hyde bunch. If Campo can repeat his showing against the D-backs we may have a new rotation member and with the calvary due soon(Smoltz,Soriano, and Gondzo) the worry about overworking the pen seems to be possibly coming to an end. I am really impressed with the versatility throughout the pitching staff.(At home anyway). Even Tex got in the deal today.Been waiting for that. Great day for the Braves and their fans. Please guys, Take this with you on next road trip.

GO Braves! Its great to see the unsung heros step up. We still have a few pieces in the farm system that in Aug and Sept the youngsters will grow up and be strong.I like Bobby’s “new” coaching style, its working. This is a team and very deep at many positions.

What’s happening is what’s going to have to happen if the Braves are going to have any chance of winning the NL East, or going to the post season for that matter. They are going to have to get heavy contributions from guys like Campillo, Reyes, Infante, and so on… This team is talented but it’s also aging in surges. The second line guys have to be ready to step in and get the job done on the road and at home.

What gets overlooked is the fact that the Braves lead the NL in ERA (3.47), so the pitching hasn’t been the cause of the mediocre record anyway (gotta start getting more innings out of the starters though, or the bullpen ain’t going to make through the year). The main problem has been lack of clutch hitting, especially late in games (and especially on the road). Hopefully that is starting to come around though.

I’m only for trading for a starter if they can get a proven guy that they can keep at least a couple of years, and if it can be done without dealing lots of the top young talent —- a very hard thing to do. Trading for a mediocre starter isn’t going to help anything…It would be better just to “run what we brung” and try and get by. Campillo was impressive last night (and all year)….hopefully we have found a new starter.

KT, Glavine is one of the best pitchers we have.

Age has not caught up to him, he’s pitched great this year minus a couple of bad innings.

He’ll be back next year.

I’m going to say this a thousand times: I don’t believe in one inning pitchers. I think it’s detrimental to the pitching staff and yet all 30 teams do it. I really don’t get it. I think an effective pitcher is far more important than switching for switching’s sake or doing the righty-righty, lefty-lefty match ups. Seems to me that moving pitchers in and out just increases the chances that the other team will find a pitcher to their liking, and you can’t use up all of your pitchers every game. It wears them out!

We need more 7-8 inning pitchers and we need TRUE long relief. It seems that long relief does not exist any more. Just made me think of this when a fan wrote that Jeff Bennett is a long reliever. The most he has ever pitched other than starting is two innings. That’s not “long”.

I agree that pitching has been great so far, as evidenced by the NL leading ERA. But…I also agree that trading for a solid starter should be at the top of FW’s priority list. I know that Blanton would be available, even Millwood if he proves to be healthy. I am not sure what else is out there besides and Arroyo or the like. Either way, there needs to be one good innings-eater now that Smoltz is in the pen.

We have a crazy pitching staffs. They are never consistent. Either they are too good or too bad. Yesterday was an example of good pitching job but poorly managed by Bobby. He should let Jeff go 7th and 8th and bring Acosta for 9th and give Boyer rest since we are up by 5 runs. Who knows what will happen today, tomorrow or rest of the weekend with Diamondbacks. As much as I love Bobby, once in a while he does something that I feel like I should change the channel. Go Braves!

Will - Go away! You are being an IDIOT. You may or may not be a professional gambler, but one thing is clear. You do not know ANYTHING about BASEBALL! I wouldn’t argue with anybody that Arizona will be a tough team to beat. Just don’t forget that we DID beat Valquez who is currently the ERA leader, so anything is possible! Webb will NOT win every single decision all year, so he has to lose at some point!

You say that Jurrjens would not be starting on other teams? What have you been snorting? Whatever it is, you really should stop because its making you sound like a completely delusional idiot! JJJ has been one of our most consistent starter and is an ace in the making! He’s only 22 years old and his composure on the mound is awesome at a young age!

Do yourself and everybody else a favor. Just simply GO AWAY! You’re not doing anything here but making it look like we have a chimpanzee in our blogs!

Good Riddance!

We’re gonna be fine, it’s a long season and I think our depth is really gonna pay off (as opposed to last year). Glad to see Tex looking like he’s bout ready to snap out of it. I’m curious if we go after Maddux from the padres to sure up our pitching. Boy how great would it be to have Hudson, Jurjjens, Glavine, Maddux. We use Jojo as the 5th started and then use “lights out” Campillo as long middle relief since I think he’s best suited for that role as we all saw last night as the mets lineup seemed to hit him better the second time around the order. Then for our Tumms late inning relief we have Boyer and Sorianno followed by our closer by commitee of Smoltz and Gonzo. Throw in Acosta and Ohman for specialized at bats and filler innings and I think we got a championship caliber staff. By the way, any news on Hampton?

Will, I was going to read your drivel, because it’s actually fun reading some of the opposing fans blather sometimes….but it’s so incoherent and is written on about a second grade level (a dumb second-grader that is)….so it wasn’t worth the effort.

Hopefully you are a kid….if you are an adult and write like that, sheeeesh! Get a tutor, dude.

I do agree that Arizona is far and away the best NL team this year. But its a long season….we’ll see what happens.

WILL Maybe you should go back inside your New York shack and prepare to cut your throat. I love the way you say wait until Thursday and johan. Well well well - finally the Mets have come to understand that the Mets are inferior to the Braves, primarily because of people like you. Someone plays in NY and careers can be ruined because of fans like you. Very hard to find people that can perform in NY because of people like you. Soooooo KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK….we Braves fans appreciate it. With an attitude that we will win one in four - hahahahahaha the Mets are DOOMED because of their fans.
