Good news, bad news for Braves

On the positive side, Atlanta finally found a way to beat an opponent this season in a one-run game.

The bad news, however, is that two more Braves pitchers suffered injuries against the Padres Thursday at the Ted.

Here’s more good and bad news - the Braves have a six-game winning streak and have the NL’s best record at home, but tonight they play the first of seven games on the road, where they have one of the league’s worst records.

So, what are your thoughts as the Braves begin their road swing against the Pirates? Will they be able to keep their home momentum going on the road?

Finally, a win in a 1-run game!

So which Braves pitchers were injured? For those of us who could only “watch” the game online…that would be valuable information.

Nice to see Norton coming through again with another RBI hit…

It’s hard to watch more injuries, but it’s great to see these guys playing as a cohesive team—wish they could do this on the road.

With a weak division this year, they have a good shot at returning to the playoffs again if they can win away from the Ted.

Its been 2 years since such a streak and a lot of good things have happened over the past 6 games. If everyone would stop wringing their hands and let the team play and have fun it would get better. We have a great team and mgr.And chop chick needs a life ,whew, she worries about even the soap in the bathrooms.go BRAVES

THE BRAVES are way better than we are giving them credit for!

1st in team ba .289 2nd slugging (behind AZ) 1st in least runs given (124 runs)

the one run record misleads others that just look at standings.

braves runs scored vs given continues to climb. BELIEVE, they are solid ——-playoff bound 2008——

Jo Jo Reyes was taken out after 2 2/3 innings with a blister on his finger. Buddy Carlyle was taken out with a neck strain after coliding with Kevin Kouzamanof. Neither injury will keep either out for a long period of time. Reyes may miss 1 start. Carlyle may not be available a couple of days and is listed as day-to-day.

Neither of the injuries appears to be serious…

Great news on the 6 game streak is that Frenchy is seriously scuffling right now, Tex is not hitting jack, and we are still scoring plenty of runs.

When those guys finally get going, we are going to be very, very tough to beat.

I am really enjoying this streak of good situational hitting the Braves are on. The pitching staff has done what they are expected to do ie. keeping the offense in the game and in striking distance and the offense is doing their part by scoring runs when they need to and coming through and making the most of every situation. With runners on 2nd and less than 2 outs, I have seen the Braves hit balls to the right side and move the runner to third much more during this streak than in times when they were losing. Watching good baseball is fun. It may not be as interesting as seeing 4 homeruns per game but for this fan it is much better than losing. All day everyday I would prefer to see the Braves win than pound the ball and lose.

Chipper is as hot as I have ever seen him, Kotsay has been such a pleasant surprise and really isn’t less of a defensive player than Andruw was over the last couple of years. Tex and Francoeur haven’t hit their stride yet, wait til that happens if you want to see the offensive explosion. Our bulpen has been solid and done their jobs too.

I don’t care if the Padres are the worst team in the league, we actually showed some resilience today, and that’s a great sign heading into the road trip.

Now is it me or are Braves players getting injured like everyday?? its getting absurd.I’m glad the Braves are establshing themselves at home now.But i wish they would get there swagger back on the road like they did in the past. Not like the 80’s past.LOL.This upcomming road trip should be easy.Norton allways thought he was a good player.Seattles stupidity is are gain.

Reyes said it was a hot spot, but would become a blister if he kept pitching. He thinks he’ll make his next start.

Buddy got his bell rung.

They should be OK. Don’t panic it’s not like they’re Glass Hampton.

I was going to ask the same question that David did. Aren’t the Braves having an exceedingly high number of injuries already this year?

As far as those who are ready to dump Tex. He is hitting .254. Frenchy is hitting .263. Do we also want to dump him too? It’s way too early to get this down on a player.

Weak division? Not really, just because there isn’t one team that is running away with it doesn’t mean it’s a weak division. That’s like saying the SEC has weak football teams because of their records. The Phillies, Mets, and Braves will all beat up on each other throughout the season, and the Marlins are giving everybody fits, who knows how long they will stay in it. Many baseball analysts predicted that the NL wild card could easily come out of the East and that’s very much holding true right now: Philadelphia (tied for wild card), Atlanta (0.5 back), and New York (1.0 back) are all in it and it’s very likely it will stay this way throughout the season.

Texteira is a notoriously slow starter. His stats bear this out, year after year. Anyone who is ready to give up on the guy already doesn’t pay attention to history. The real question should be, when the season is over and the guy has 35 homers and 120 ribbies, will we be able to outbid the Yankees or the Mets and sign him to a long-term contract?

By Philliesuk

The numbers for Tex will be there; I’m trying to remain patient.

Glad to see that the situational hitting is improving. Also glad to see the Braves becoming more aggressive on the basepaths.

Norton!

I think the Braves seriously need to send Frenchy down in order for someone to teach him the strike zone. He looks awful.

As far as Tex goes, they need to drop him in the lineup down to 7 or 8. He’s obviously dreaming about a big contract ar Yankee stadium.

Bat McCann behind Chipper to protect him. Ever notice how the Pods quit pitching to Chipper because they knew Tex would hit into a double play.

Nobody really stung the ball for us today. The Padres are a miserable baseball team and we had to depend on a passed ball to tie it up.It’s OK to win ugly sometimes. Francour needs to be moved down in the line-up untils he gets his stroke back.

I’m starting to wonder about Jeff too. How many men did he leave on base in this series? At times he looks like he is in his rookie season again. He should have much better ‘at bats’ than what he is showing. Take away that one outstanding game he had and what does he have?? Not much really. Maybe it is a good thing he didn’t sign a long term contract at this point in time.

Sam, didn’t Frenchy hit around .400 for his first month+ his rookie season? I love the player to death, but I think putting on that muscle in the offseason may have unrealistically raised his own expectations that he is struggling to meet. I’m not saying that he won’t appreciate it in September when he’s still feeling strong, just that the power stroke isn’t quite there yet.

Can’t wait to see the Braves when they get up here to Philly next week. Got tix for the Wed & Thurs games.

What is up with Frenchy? Man, he looks terrible as of late. I hope he gets it together or he needs to be benched. I like him a lot but he’s not cutting it so far this year. Maybe putting on too much weight has put too much of a strain on his ankle. Just a thought!

Nice to see us win a game like we did years ago, with a bunt and aggressive running on the bases. The home runs will come, but guys like Escobar, Kotsay and Blanco give us a different dimension.

John, you are a moron. “Bench Frenchy”? It’s a 162 game season, stupid! Slumps do occur. Frenchy will hit.

I bet you are the kind of idiot who was calling for Chipper to get benched when he was 0-4 yesterday before getting that 9th inning single.

Some people do not deserve to be fans. Look I have no problem with being critical. However I do so in a logical way. I want to win and will be quick to call for someone to be benched if warranted. But to call for Franceour to be benched because of a few bad plate appearances, come on.

AJC, please revoke this moron’s posting privileges, lol.

I guess you want Michael Tucker or Ken Oberkrfell to replace Franceour.

I am getting really tired of hearing people knock the six game winning streak over the lowly teams. Folks at least we are winning them. At the beginning of the year we couldn’t beat the Pirates and Nats to save our lives also the Rockies who were playing bad. This is a great sign becuase with the exception of yesterday’s game the Braves have won the last five convinsingly. We are winning that is all that matters. Now if our upcoming road trip produces a 5-2 record then I believe teams around the East will realize that they wasted a perfect opportunity to put distance between themselves and the Braves in April. If this team does run off a great road trip I think its time to welcome back the glory days because we will be off to the races. Last year this team had trouble getting over .500, this year they have finally done it and doing by 2 5+ game winning streaks they haven’t done that since 04’. I still believe we need a quality starter, but when this team is healthy we are better than the D-Backs. And to back that up look at our veteran presence compared to theirs. I see 08’ as a special year. Get off your hands and support these Braves!

This pitching staff continues to amaze!! We’ve had to piece it together, and they have still been lights-out. As far as those being optimistic about Francoeur though, I’m not so sure. I’ve watched every game this year, as I’m sure most of you have, and it seems that he’s tying himself up. He can only hit the ball hard if it’s over the outside third of the plate, and up. If it’s in, it’s a broken bat roller to the left side, and if it’s away, it’s a Paul Bunyan swing and miss. He’s not even looking the other way anymore either. But, we’re still winning, on to Pittsburgh!

Yeah I hate “business man specials” The sports talk channel designated as the “home” of your Atlanta Braves decides to not air said games when they play during the day.So maybe the channel here in Savannah should call themselves the “part time” home of the Braves. I at least was able to watch the re-broadcast last night so that was ok. Hated seeing 2 more pitchers go down but the pen held it’s own.Hope Tommy can eat some innings tonight though.

Yes, Yes, as posted above, “The one-run record misleads others that just look at standings. Braves’ runs scored vs given continues to climb.” Too bad fans don’t have easy access to these numbers.

Why don’t the standings show “Runs for” & “Runs against” for every team right next to W-L and Games Behind? They do this for NFL and NHL, giving fans insight beyond W-L record about how the team has played. Does anyone care at all about what they print instead — Home-Away and Streak? Not me. Get rid of those trash stats, give us Runs For & Against.

People are starting to discover that Andruw Jones has been living on his defensive reputation for more than a couple of years. Kotsay is every bit as good as Andruw defensively, is hitting way better and is considerably less expensive. Hmmm, where is the downside to Andruw leaving the Brave again?

Andruw jones was an important part of the braves. Without him we would not have won all those divisions. His slide started and they got rid of him, but stop acting like you don’t remember the many MVP type seasons he had. He is overrated defensively NOW but if I think back I can’t remember anyone being that good ever before he started losing a step a year or 2 ago. I hope he starts playing better over in LA except against the Braves…6 in a row is impressive, even against sorry teams. People always need to find something to complain about even when we are playing good. Go Braves!!!
