Will Hawks score series upset?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The gutsy Atlanta Hawks downed the mighty Boston Celtics in Game 6 of their Eastern Conference playoff, forcing a Game 7 in Boston on Sunday with a come-from-behind 103-100 win Friday night at Philips Arena.
Has the momentum swayed to the young Hawks? Or will the C’s continue their domination at home?

I think it will be tough for them to win in Boston on Sunday, but I’m not going to rule it out. Man, I am really proud of those guys. To beat the Celtics 3 times in the playoffs is a huge accomplishment. Great game tonight by Marvin, with some nice clutch shooting by JJ. I’m pumped. Go Hawks!! Shock the world baby!

This is a marvelous feeling for Hawks fans, but the reality is we can’t hang with the Celtics in Boston and most of us know it, especially if Bibby doesn’t contribute more. But, congratulations to our guys anyway! Many more good times are ahead for this team and its fans.

Before this series started, I didn’t even think the Hawks would make it a competitive series and it’s going to be tough to beat the Celtics at home, but you have to believe the Hawks have a solid chance to steal this series. ALL the pressure will be on the Celtics to not be this year’s Mavericks.

These hawks have shown the true power of spirit and believing in yourself. They had been picked to lose every single match up and still went out there to shock the world. they have to get out their fast and hard and give it everything if they want to clench it! If they can they will be legends! Still hats off to all of them they are having a remarkable run!

This series has kinda reminded me of the Falcons/Vikings NFC Championship game in 98’. The Vikings were expecting the Falcons to just roll over and hand them the game (in this case series) so anything can happen in game 7. Win or lose we have something to look forward to in the next few years as long as they keep the core of this team together. GO HAWKS!

No matter what happens in Boston as an Atlanta citizen I cannot help but be proud of these young guys. They have done what no one expected and in a very classy way. Every time the Celtics have pulled the usual NBA “Drama” act these Hawks haven’t been afraid to stand up to them which is hard for a younger team. I look forward to Sunday and seeing what these kids really have. There is no more favored team, all there is is one game. One game to do what was one time thought of as unthinkable. Time to put your feet to the fire and put your foot where the Celtics mouth is. These Hawks have surprised everyone now is the time to “Shock the World”

I think I’ll savor this until Sunday, but Woodson should still be in the unemployment line after this thing is over. Anyone can see we need to push the ball all the time and use the bench. The Hawks are winning in spite of their coach, gm, and ownership. BTW, the asking price for Josh Smith and Josh Childress’s contracts just doubled. Way to get that taken care of.

Mike Bibby had several chances to seal the deal, and failed. The future is not Mike Bibby. His good years are way past him. They could win this series if only they would sit Mike Bibby, and stsrt Acie Law. The fans in Boston are going to harras Bibby through the whole game.Plus he is having shooting problrms.

I am a Boston fan, but I am happy for the Hawks. They deserve to win game 7 despite their miserable performance in Boston. When you try something 4 times, you might, JUST MIGHT, get lucky once. Go Hawks.
Celtics is the better team, but given that they have best record, they dont deserve to advance. If Atlanta loses, it will be because they lack a good coach. This Woodson guy gotta go. Only then The Hawks will soar.

Since day one every counted the HAWKS out.
(THE THEY SAYS…..) 1.We were an easy sweep 0-2..we win GAME3
We got lucky b/c Boston got relaxed…we win GAME4
Series 3-2 Boston is too good to let th WORST team push the series to 7. Every sports writer/TV analyst/hater agreed… we win GAME6
HAWKS (and real fans) don’t care what other think. Its very possible GAME 7 can be won if the HAWKS get out and run for once on the road…
“they” say alot of things other than giving us our due respect for playing hard against the best team in the playoffs.
Why is it always attributed to Boston’s mistakes and not our resilience and effort? GO HAWKS SHOCK THE WORLD!!!

St. Bernard, it’s a little difficult to criticize a coach who has pushed a VERY YOUNG team to game 7 against the team with the best record in the league, a GM who has assembled and drafted a very talented team, and an owner who has looked to turn an organization around after so many years of losing.

No Boston bloggers so far… Can’t blame them, they’re probably feeling a little green right about now. And all you folks that want Marvin Williams run out of town on a rail, remember that in the first half of this game, when Joe Johnson couldn’t get a shot and nobody else could make one, Marvin Williams kept the Hawks in it, and got Paul Pierce into foul trouble. He’s a keeper. Now, one to Boston!

Great game, we have got to figure out how to bring that tempo up to Boston. To win (and we can do it) we need Bibby to hit some shots early to open it up for Joe & Josh a bit. Work for every rebound like never before to open up the running game. Take care of those two simple tasks and we will be there in the 4th. Come out and miss a bunch of jumpers off set plays early in the game and we are toast.
Go get em guys!

Kobe4MVP you guys won’t even get past Utah in the second round. What the heck are you talking about? Once those Lakers play a real team that knows a thing or two about punching teams in the mouth, you’ll retreat with your head between your legs.
Anyway, on to more serious matters. Great win by Atlanta, but they will have to let it all hang out if they want to beat Boston Sunday. Bibby MUST find his shot to counteract the half court defense. JJ will continue to be harassed meaning that Marvin and Josh must continue to attack the basket.
Regardless, Atlanta has arrived on the NBA map!

I am a C’s fan and will take my medicine. The excuses you hear from fans, and now even from Doc in his post game presser about the foul shot difference is bunk. Much like all these union guys in up here that expect more for less effort, the sad fact (for me) is that we are not taking it to the rim, and thus not getting the calls. Anyone who says otherwise is jus po’d about what is happening and looking for an excuse. Looking forward to a good game Sunday. Nothing like a game 7. Hope the C’s take it.

okay, the nba needs fans.
so, let’s go to a town where the franchise stinks, but many of the local population are demographically similar to cities where the nba does well.
we can rig the lottery to favor the hawks so that they can get two picks in the 2007 top 11 players.
then, when they make the playoffs, we’ll have their opponent lay down in atlanta, to get fans fired up and ready to buy tickets in 09.
we’ll even call phantom fouls on paul pierce in the 4th quarter.
nba = wwe
it’s all pre-planned and all for entertainment and ticket sales/viewership

Here’s me laughin at what the person reality stinks just typed.
So you figure that in some kind of way the nba rig a draft for the hawks to get 2 lottery picks just to end up playing against the Boston Celtics in the playoffs??? Get outta here what that.
But lets just say that the nba does things like that….take a look at the Celtics during the draft last year. They somehow miraculously end up adding both KG and Ray Allen…and not only that but during the year somehow Cassel ends up joining the team. 60 plus wins in a city (Boston) that somehow ends up in championship series winning 2 of the last 3 world series….lets not forget Football….and now the Celtics whose supposed to win it all.
Now go and compare that to the sports that we have in Atlanta within the past year we’ve seen a complete down fall of the Falcons, the hawks have been down for 9 seasons, and the Braves are starting to fall.
Hm, doesn’t sound like anybody is doing the city of Atlanta favors, to me, when it comes to sports.

40-1 odds before the NBA playoffs. I thought the Hawks had a chance so I bet on them while in Vegas for a convention. Now I wish I bet more. You aren’t a Hawks fan if you DON’T believe they will win on Sunday. Why not? The ” experts” said the Celts would sweep. HA!! HELL, The Cards won the World Series with 83 regular season wins. Don’t hate the player- hate the game or the greedy owners for expanding the playoffs. Go Hawks! All teams were 0-0 to start the playoffs. Get over it Boston and quit crying.

reality stinks while we’re at it let’s make sure we have a team in our second best market be able to swing a midseason deal with a lower tier franchise, basically pillage their best superstar for nothing just so they can make the finals, which translates into great ratings.
Nevermind the fact that 3 of the past 5 championships have been won by a team in San Antonio which has the most boring players to ever win a title.
You’re a f*cking idiot!

Three things 1. Ref’s suck and kept this game close enough for Atlanta to make a comeback (don’t trust NBA ref’s anymore- they cheat too so why isn’t anyone talking about them and the NBA like they do the Pats?) 2. Coaching - Doc is a moron and has been out coached by another moron with half the team he has. Granted Atlanta is young, vibrant, talented and aggressive, they are still not the Boston Celtics. Another thing, I’ve been a Paul Pierce basher his entire career but let me say this loud enough for everyone to hear “YOU WILL NOT WIN THIS SERIES WITHOUT PIERCE DELIVERING SO GIVE HIM THE EFFIN BALL AND MAKE PLAYS AROUND HIM!!!” Rondo thinks he’s better than he is and takes way to many chances and commits too many turnovers. Also, he has the wonderful ability of killing the flow of the game for the Celts by doing whatever the hell he wants. Pass the ball and get out of the way j*******. I know Doc isn’t the brightest but I have a hard time believing he wanted Rondo killing the clock and taking the final shot from beyond the ark. Didn’t happen. Rondo wishes he had half the talent that’s sitting on Atlanta’s bench when the game starts. 3. Does anyone really expect the Celts to play this poorly on the road and still compete for a championship? Not going to happen people. The West is tough enough as it is and they are truely struggling to get out of the first round against an 8 seed. Detriot and the Cav’s will eat this team alive IF they win and Doc Rivers will and should be coaching some rec team in Orlando or somewhere. Maybe they’ll bring in someone who’ll coach this team and not be coached by these players who think the NBA should’ve given them the trophy at the conclusion of the reg season. It’s obvious these guys dont listen to a damn word Doc says by the look on his face after he calls a play and they do whatever they feel like instead. All this said, Atlanta will beat us Sunday and they deserve the right to move on because they’ve played as a team and listened to their coach. Nothing more than that. Well, except for the fact the Celts and Doc look like they’re looking down the barrel of a gun every 4th quarter.

No one can realistically think the Hawks can win Game 7 when they haven’t even won a QUARTER in the three games so far. But … the pressure is really on the C’s now. You could see the rushed shots in the fourth quarter tonight. None of the big 3 has ever won anything, and Games 4 and 6 wouldn’t have been as close as they were without Posey making big shots. Pierce, Garnett, and Allen simply have not been poised down the stretch, and their past post-season failures will haunt them in a tight game.
It looked like the Hawks were trying to keep it close and have a chance in the 4th quarter. The Hawks haven’t shown they can compete in the Garden yet, but if they can keep it close and with the risk of the Mighty Celtics losing to the 8th seed Hawks looming, I think the Celtics will tighten up. The Hawks have shown the poise to win the tight ones at the end, and they really have nothing to lose.
Nice job by two much-maligned guys tonight: Marvin Williams had the big game he needed with the C’s doubling JJ each time he had the ball, and he even played some good D. And Woodson not only got his team up for the game, he adjusted great with the foul trouble for Josh Smith and the Celtics’ defensive adjustments. Great game for Zaza too.
What a great series for the Hawks! They’re growing up!

As a Celtics fan, three points:
1) Hats off to Atlanta that has played awesome at home.
2) The Celtics big three really sh*t the bed: Ray Allen missed 7 in a row or more, Garnet had 7 turnovers in a row or it seemed, and Pierce had 7 fouls if you include free throws.
3) This series was meant to go 7, by both the gods of the NBA (it’s the 20 year anniversary of Dominque vs. Bird at the Garden in Game 7, 1988), and the gods of media (TNT, that favors Atlanta and paid the refs to foul out Pierce on an atrocious call).

Going in to the series, I was hoping that the Hawks might win 1 game, so that they didn’t get swept. I thought that winning 2, would definitely give them something to build off of for next year. But 3, that’s AWESOME. As long as they keep the Nucleus of the team togethor, they can only get better.

First off brookline baller I’m loving the way that you manned up. I respect that. Still hate Boston, but I respect you, may the best team win.
Reality Sucks how dare you try to reduce what this young team did to the level of a fix. How dare you sir, or ma’am, or whatever the deuce you are! Let me tell you something, I don’t believe in Karma, but if there were a such thing, what happened to the Hawks last year in the draft is proof of it. Any team, and any fan base that has suffered as much as we have down here in the dirty deserve a break, and trust me, these last few years, the rest of the NBA, including the brass, has been laughing at Atlanta entirely too hard to concoct some elaborate conspiracy the culmination of which that they humiliate your team by forcing a game seven. The sad truth of the matter is that they would make a ton more money off a Garnett/James matchup. But to say what you did about those young men who, unlike your team, put everything they had out there and left it on the floor, well that’s just dispicable, and you hardly deserve for your team to succeed. Shame!
Boston Bum Don’t you think you’re being a little hard? I don’t care how much the Celtics have disappointed you, they’re still your team and after a 66 win season, they deserve a lot better than for you to bash them the way that you have. Don’t get me wrong, I HATE your team with a bloody passion. They don’t play the game the right way, boast when they should be humble and they talk when they should be playing. What’s more, they DON’T listen to their coach who, like you, I think was made by an abundance of talent to look slightly smarter than he actually is. But the bottom line is that you don’t turn on your team for anything. Do you have any idea how grateful our city would be if we’d had a season like ya’ll had in 2006/2007 and then come back with a season like ya’ll were blessed with this year. It wouldn’t have mattered what happened in the post season because we would have all had a heart attack. You know, there’s one great inescapable tragedy about being a sport’s fan, I mean a real sport’s fan. Sooner, or later, your team or the sport, will break your heart. There are two times in my life that I saw my father cry and one of them was when the baseball strike ended the 1994 season. But when the first pitch of the 1995 season was thrown that old man was right there and he saw his team win it’s only world series of the 90’s that year. You think it’s been easy for Hawks fans these past ten years being the brunt of every ESPN joke told over that stretch. Do you think that when we saw every experienced player on our roster get traded or leave, you think that didn’t hurt. And there was no friendly GM who would give us superstar players at bargain basement prices. We had to rebuild the old fashion way, through the draft. And do you think that when we drafted Josh Smith and every draftnight analyst said that if there was a bust in that draft, it’s Josh Smith, you think the fans down here weren’t wondering how big of a mistake they made. Do you think after Atlanta traded Boris Diaw and he went through the roof for the Phoenix Suns that we didn’t die a little inside. And do you think that every time we see Chris Paul, we don’t think about what might have been if he were in a Hawk uniform. I do. But here’s the thing Boston Bum, the true fans down here NEVER turned on their team. We saw our best players go and we believed that at some point there’d be a point to it. We heard what they said about Josh Smith, but we believed that he could be special. It burned us up about Diaw, but we embraced Joe Johnson, and three years down the road, it doesn’t look like a half bad deal. My point is, your team is going to let you down, but if you’re a true fan, you’re going to be down for them, regardless. They’re your team Boston Bum, own them!
As for the officiating. It hasn’t shined on either team, but I will say that there have been enough questionable calls to where neither team has the moral high ground to complain. And as far as the one on Paul Pierce was concerned. Had he not had five fouls on him, that one wouldn’t have mattered so much would it?

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
I’ll knock the bad out of the way real quick — the refs were horrible for both sides, calling all kinds of ticky tack fouls, and Woody was an idiot for sitting Josh Smith as long as he did when we clearly needed a stop in the 3rd quarter.
But DAMN what an effort! I’ve been talking sh-t about Marvin but he really stepped up today. Couldn’t be more proud of that dude, not just on offense but even defensively. Took us a while to adjust to Joe being doubled on every possession, but once Horford started coming to the top of the key to get the pass from Joe the offense started to flow much better. Outstanding contributions from Zaza and Childress off the bench.
And WHAT A CROWD! I was afraid some of these new people (nice way of saying bandwagon fans) wouldn’t be into it, but everyone really stepped up. I had a headache after the game from all the noise, no joke. And it was great to make it rain popcorn after the game — y’all upper level folk know what I’m talking about.
I honestly didn’t think they would step up this game after the way they folded in Game 6, but I’m done doubting this team. GO HAWKS!!!!
Finally, Reality Stinks, lick my balls.

What a game!!!! I wish I had some confidence that Game 7 will be at least competitive, but I fear it won’t.
What a great atmosphere at Phillips last night.

“Yet the Hawks’ series-tying win may be only the second biggest upset of the night. While the media that covered the team all year looked around and thought, “Where am I?” a towel-waving mob upped the Philips Arena decibels levels to heights never before seen in this building. Of the five arenas I’ve been to in this postseason, this was easily the loudest — a shocking turn of events for a place that could have doubled as a mausoleum for much of the regular season.”

They have NO chance. They feed off the home crowd and have a great team at home with the crowd (as opposed to the regular season). But they sleepwalk on the road and the Celtics feed off their crowd and will do so tomorrow.

The Hawks can beat the C’s in Boston. But to do that we need to follow our shots after we shoot. The C’s really are just standing around once we shoot because we take off up the court. If we follow our shots and convert on second chance attempts from following our shots we’ll be ahead and stay ahead. Someone needs to be flashing backdoor when they double Joe. Because it’s always a big man coming to double someones open.

Win or lose the Hawks will have me in Phillips mutliple times next year instead of my one game a year. The Celtics have been exposed and even if they advance all their aura is gone. Detroit or Cleveland can beat them and Orlando will have a good chance to. If the Hawks do win Game 7 they match up really well with the Cavs, could we be looking at an ECF?

Again the refs served up home cook’n! Hawks shot 36/47 (76.7%)last night.. Their season avg. is 77.2 @ home and 75.2 away (almost identical to the Spurs) Celts shot 20/25 47 to 25 ain’t even close! Sunday of course will be more home cook’n… I hope Marvin Williams can play again..that was an ugly hit on the left knee which one sees more in football !

Congratulations on forcing game 7! I’ve doubted the Hawks all along and though that my Celtics would easily sweep them. The Hawks have shown a lot of heart. They are a likable team. If I was you, I wouldn’t be so hard on your coach because the players obviously play hard for him. If you get a center next year, you’ll do even better next year.
I’ve been to all 3 games in Boston and I’ll be there again tomorrow. Thanks for making it an exciting series. Anything can happen in a game 7, but I expect the Hawks to revert back to their inferior road performance in Boston.

I never realized that Doc Rivers was such a cry baby.
In all three Hawks wins, he has whined about the fouls in the press. Now, I will agree that the foul on Paul Pierce to foul out in game 6 was very questionable. But, Doc actually believes that the officials are calling these games the Hawks way… He is sadly mistaken and his team shoots jump shots for 90% of their shots. Go Hawk!

Officiating is and always has been an “it is what it is” thing. Get over it! Acie Law was the victim of a Stan Hansen-esque Lariat earlier in the series. Do you hear him crying?!The “mighty” C’s demise could be their own propensity to loose their cool.
The obvious examples:
*KG nearly enciting a riot with vicious fore arm smash toward the skull of ZaZa P. Thank God he missed!
*PP goes ballistic, slams head band and picks up a costly Tech Foul late in 4th Qtr of G6. The contest was decided by 3 pts! Way to go PP! Had the Hawx led by just 2, there would have been ABSOLUTELY NO WAY of stopping KG inside, assuming the C’s would have gone for tie. At least they would have had another option.
*If Hawx actually show up on Sunday (cause they haven’t yet surfaced during the “games” in Boostown) how will C’s respond?
Will we see another altercation brought on by frustration and C’s inability to stop ATL from “Shocking the World?” YES!
Go HAWX AND FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!

Don’t mind me folks. I’m just up for a quick lunch and then it’s right back to bed. But since I’m here L Bird if indeed that is your real name, “luck,” “your rightful place.” Listen buddy, the last time I checked, NBA games, and series, and championships went to the team that wanted it bad enough to take it. Now maybe you, and Stephen A. Smith, and everyone that thinks Boston should have been awarded game six by simple virtue of showing up actually believe that. We respectfully disagree. I don’t care how much talent you’ve got on that team, I don’t. If you want Cleveland, you’re going to have beat us, which your team may very well do, but don’t talk to me about our “rightful place.” Our “rightful place” is wherever our efforts and our smarts take us, and so is yours. You’ll find no aristocracy here.

Watching G6, it looks to me as if Bibby ain’t got much left in his tank!
He had some open looks at treys, but his shots seemed to fall short.
Also noticed his a few of his FTs late in G6, seemed to be short as well.

What’s the deal with Marvin’s knee? I assume he will be able to go Sunday, b/c he was re-inserted into G6 after suffering the injury.
As he proved during G6, Marvin could be a much needed source of offense for the Hawx.
Everybody knows JJ will continue to get smothered and we will need someone else to hit some shots. Bibby could hit a few, but seems to get fatigued late in games.
GO HAWX and Finish off Boostown!!

Stern and the NBA have wanted a Celtics-Lakers matchup in the finals since they brought in KG and Allen. They need it. They want to evoke the good feelings of the 80’s when the NBA was at its best. Lakers-Celtics. The refs will make sure boston wins. I cannot believe anyone is writing about the refs helping the Hawks. It has been 8 on 5 every night. Boston does not go inside. Even KG is more of a face up jump shooter. Hence, they do not go the line.
I went to over 30 games a year back in the good ole days, but I was so shocked and disgusted by the Hawks getting rid of Dominique that I never forgave them. Lenny Wilkens saying he needed to have HIS type of player in Danny Manning and giving up the franchise player in the middle of a season in which we had the best record in the EAST was the most idiotic thing. I honestly hate Lenny Wilkens. He is the most overrated coach in the history of sports. In my opinion he needs to answer for what he did. It is sickening.

All I have to say about the refs is that there have been horrible calls on both sides. As far as the free throw discrepancy, any person with any basketball IQ knows that if u drive the ball, you will get fouls. Celtics shoot more jump shots, while the Hawks attack the basket. Thus, Hawks get more free throws. It’s not that hard. And for all the conpiracy theorists out there, you really think the NBA would fix a series where the “lowly, laughable, joke-for-a-team” Hawks defeat the “mighty, money-making, best team in the league” Celtics? Please, stop makin excuses you sore-losing Bostonians. Bottom line is you guys are gettin challenged by a below .500 team with a lot more heart and youth, and you Bostonians can’t handle it. Hawks have already done the unthinkable and shocked the world. Our season is already a success and we have a bright future ahead of us. The Celtics only definition of success this year would be a championship. Anything less would be a failure. No matter the outcome of this series, the Celtics winning a championship this year seems less and less as this year’s champ will come out the West.

Come on Hawks fans be more positive for tomorrow’s game 7, here’s why:
I think that the 1:00pm game time for tomorrow’s afternoon game 7 should benefit the Hawks big time. Is not the same having 7 hrs less of rest (from an 8:00pm start) for the older and slower Celtics and worst for them already playing 6 games (two unexpected).
For an early game like tomorrow’s game 7, both teams have to wake up early in the morning for a good breakfast and time to digest it. Then arrive at the court two or three hours before tip off (10:00am to 11:00am).
Saying all that I think that younger bodies like the young Hawks have, should be a lot easier for them and I have no doubt that they will have more energy than the Celtics tomorrow and should play a lot better than the first 3 games at Boston.
When you are younger you don’t need that much rest time, but when you’re older like the Celtics, those 7 hrs less of rest can be mortal and can be the difference on the level of energy.
The Hawks just have to hang in there for the first 3 quaters and I’m sure that if we they are within sriking distance for the start of the 4th quater history will be in the making and the Hawks will shock the world with their athletism, stamina and young legs. Late in the game Boston will be flat. You could see it on game 6, starting with Ray Allen that almost didn’t hit the rim in his shot attemps in the 4th quater.
Remember that in game 6 Joe Johnson almost did not play the 1st half with foul trouble and the Hawks lost the 1st half by 15 points. Then made it a 6 point game in the 3rd quater. They had trouble with the defensive rebounds and the game got open again.
Slowly they are getting their confidence and concentration in Boston and tomorrow’s game 7 will be the game that they will click with better stamina and energy than Boston.
Like I said before tomorrow, with less rest for the older and slower Celtics the Hawks will rebound and play defense much better.
The Big Three Amigos will go fishing on KG’s boat with Doc Rivers and Danny Ainge. Hopefully they will invite Steven A. Smith and Charles Barkley to join them so they can predict the Hawks second round against the Cavs.
LET’S SHOCK THE UNIVERSE AND THE SO CALL EXPERTS…LETS GO HAWKS !!!!!!

Yeah. I agree with you Horford Rox about Mike Bibby. He had a good game last night but did miss some wide open shots and free throws. If the hawks stop giving the celts second and third chances, and josh smith realizes that kg cannot stop him when he drives to the basket, we could easily beat them by ten or more but the points off of second and third chances are killing them. Go Hawks!

I’m a Cavs fan, and I just wanted to thank the Hawks for taking the Celtics to 7 games. I would love to see you win game 7 - not because I think that you’d be an easier opponent, it’s because the Cavs would have home-court in the series. Plus, I just can’t stand the cocky Celtics fans and the media that fawns over the Celts. I don’t like Paul Pierce either, and neither does Lebron (Pierce spat at Lebron in a preseason game during Lebron’s rookie year because he was jealous of the hype Lebron was getting).
That being said, the poster above that thinks that the Hawks match up well with the Cavs because the Hawks are athletic and the Cavs are not, have to remember that the Cavs have a 23 year old super-stud who’s the strongest, most athletic player in the game today. We also have Gibson and West who are young. Our bigs, besides AV, are old, but they’re skilled and experienced. Would be a great series betw Atlanta and Cleveland and I’d love to see it. Good luck on Sunday - I hope the Hawks play hard and fearless and they should have a chance.

First, congradulations to the Hawks for knocking the arrogance off the Boston Celtics. The Celtics & Hawks both have done what they needed to do win at home, even though we were not given much of chance.
It would not be a shame to lose to Boston in game 7 at Boston, but if we could win we would make history as the greatest upset in NBA history. I am hoping it time for “Any Given Sunday”, since we have lost all our games in Boston this year!!!!
The only way we are going to beat them Sunday is the Hawks have to attack the rim & run like it is no tomorrow, because that’s what it is. They will double Joe. if backs up to half court and makes a pass forward, it’s now 4 on 3 and they should attack the rim, just like when you beat a press with a pass, you should attack the rim because you have numbers. As they adjust to this, we should take the ball out of Joe’s hand and run him off screens,as if he were Reggie Miller, we have to run & attack.
I can take a loss, but not another weak effort in Boston where they get blown out before halftime. Also, we need to make Rondo uncomfortable, he is has been the best Celtic in all the wins in Boston, period.
Go Hawks…Shock the World!!!

Yeah well guess what Birdy. Maybe the Celts don’t deserve to be in the playoffs since we’ve taken you to seven. This series wasn’t even supposed to be close…yet we’re in the final game
Logic much?
It’s over bro, The Celtic bandwaggon fans got their little dose of winning this season..but it’s not going to continue in the playoffs. Even if you win tommorow and take it in 7…you really think you can take on Cleveland?
You really think you can take on either Detroit or Orlando?
Then the Finals?
History has shown the that NBA champ always has a sweep or a short 5 game series on their way to the championship in atleast one of their series.
If destiny was on the Celts side then that sweep or 5 game series would have been against us…but since it’s not going to be. Do you really see yourselves sweeping either Cleav, Orl/Detroit and then whoever you’d face in the finals?

First let me say that I am from Boston and that I am a Celtics fan. With that being said I have to give the Hawks a ton of credit just to bring the series to seven. Do I think you guys will win…no… but am I 100 percent sure that the Celtics will win…no. Regardless of what happens in game seven, the Hawks have “won” the series. The fact that I, and most Celtics fans, have even the slightest amount of doubt in our minds is a testament to the quality of play the Hawks have displayed over the last two weeks. No one gave them a chance to win more than one game, and now they have a chance to “shock the world”. It’s easy to criticize Doc Rivers, or Paul Pierce, or anything else the Celtics did poorly last night [or for the entire series], but the fact is that the Hawks’ aggressive play and athleticism made the Celtics make those errors. Regardless of what happens in game 7, you guys should be extremely proud of your team. You have exposed the weaknesses of the best team in the league and now have a legitimate chance at sending them home.

Seattle Hawks fan, I celebrated last night’s win with the hottie, and we’re taking it up to Btown for Sunday!
Celtics fans trip me out. They’re relying on the refs to bail them out on Sunday because they know they can’t keep up with the Hawks.
Even if the Celtics were to win, Cleveland’s gonna pound them in the dirt! They have NO answer for Lebron James and Delonte West is coming into his own. Cavs with the quick sweep if they play Boston.
I would love to have Atlanta play them in round 2. Should be fun.

Are you kidding me? No only are the Cs going to pound the Hawks tomorrow they are going to cruise into the Championship Finals. Here is the story about Atlanta. They have a bunch of young, athletic guys that dont care about what happens. They make lucky shots and get a few calls and the Cs should not catch their momentum in Atlanta. Its all about matchups and Atlanta does not match up well with Boston. The Cavs? I would not be surprised if Boston takes them in 5 or maybe even 4. Atlanta, consider yourselves lucky and start building for next year.
To the Hawks fans. You are the biggest ban wagon fans I have ever known. Didn’t you have the lowest attendence during the regular season? Oh yeah, I forgot, all of your other sports teams athletes are dog fighting or breaking other laws. Dont try and act like you enjoy the Hawks now…. give me a break. QUESTION: Will Tom Petty be playing at half time of the Celtics game Sunday?
HINT: Boston fans, get ready. Your 2008 “Free Fallin’ Out Into Nothing” Horror Story adds a new chapter on Sunday.
ANSWER: It doesn’t matter. It is what it is. Another heavily favored Boston team chokes and loses to another under dog / Cinderella that has no business beating them.
LeBron James is coming to Atlanta next weekend for Game 3 of the Cavs-Hawks series.

…interesting comments from a Celtics fan:

“But what most people are overlooking is that the Hawks have played great in their 3 wins (with some one-sided officiating thrown in). I’ve watched other playoff games and the Hawks have been better than all the teams that are out at this point. In fact, they’ve played better at home than most of the teams that have already moved on. We should give them some credit.”

The celtics are going to blanket JJ and try to limit his production.
3 keys for the Hawks….
1) Bibby must get hot shooting the ball.
2) Hawks defensive rebounding…1 and done for the Celts. No second shots.
3) run run run
If they can do the above…Hawks will win.

“I believe that the athleticism and youth of the Hawks is making all of the Three Amigos look their age IN ATLANTA, but I’m reasonably confident they’ll pull out Game 7 in Boston and find an easier matchup in the next series.” (emphasis added)

Hmmm…I wonder if Giselle Bundchen is going to run down the streets naked this time. I bet that the New York fans will be happy if the Hawks win. Now that leaves me wondering also…did Bill Belicheat lend Doc Rivers his spygate camera so that the Celtics could cheat and enact revenge on the rest of the nation? Oh yeah…

The Hawks have to overcome more than just the Celtics. The NBA would much rather see the Celtics and Lakers in the finals. Actually, they’d prefer any of the remaining playoff teams over the Hawks. However, if the Hawks overcome the Celtics and their home court advantage(refs), they could conceivably make it to the finals. Man, wouldn’t that be something.

Ok, some folk are down-right delirious! To think that NBA officials are favoring the Hawks? You Boston fans MUST BE JOKING!!! It wasn’t an excuse the 3 games ya’ll won…the Hawks have shot more free throws EVERY game this series. Maybe it’s because we go to the basket and ya’ll don’t.
Look at the stats geniuses, the Hawks lost in Boston because of the 3-point line! We almost lost game 6 because of the 3-point line! Except for Paul Pierce, Perkins, Powe, and sometimes Rondo, your team is full of jump shooters. The Hawks don’t have many jump shooters. So guess what, they penetrate, and they get fouled..Duh!!
For the Hawks to win this game, in a word, POISE! Limiting turnovers, Making 8-0 runs here and there to make the ‘faithful Boston fans’ get antsy, maybe even boo. It’s not that we did not run in Game 5, it was that we did not take care of the basketball, which led to Allen, Pierce, Posey 3-pointers. 8 3rd quarter turnovers is what led to the blowout the rest of the game. I’m feeling good about this game; the Hawks proved in ATL that they could out-heart the Celtics; today will be about who out-skills who.
I just wanna see what the league would do…what would happen to all the KG Gatorade commercials running, the Lebron-KG “There Can Only Be One” commercial that ran before the playoffs began (clearly the league expected a sweep). The Hawks have the chance to break David Stern’s heart.
And the thing is, folk that comment regularly on this site KNEW that this team had it in them, but weren’t playing up to their potential. They’ve learned championship tenacity real quick, though. And for years to come, folk will be at Philips Arena, because their team has finally learned to play like they’re significant and not just say they were….the rebuild is complete. Fly sky high, Hawks!

Wow! I was kind of expecting the Hawks to pull off an upset. But no matter, the Cavs actually do have a chance in the next round now. This series sure gave the Celtics a scare. With this much pressure, I’m sure that the Lakers will be looking forward to stealing the championship hopes from the Celtics (if the Celtics can make it that far in the playoffs lol).
