Can the Hawks pull it off in Boston?

Editor’s Note: Commenting on this blog has been turned off. To continue the conversation, click here and join the Wednesday morning blog.

The series is now tied at two games apiece and momentum clearly appears to be on the Hawks’ side - at least for the moment.

So …. here’s the question - Do the Hawks have a chance of winning Wednesday in Boston?

The Hawks lost the first two games of the series in Boston, and will need to win there at least once if they plan to pull a monumental upset and win the series. And since they need to win at least one game there, why not win Wednesday night?

Let us know what you think. Can the Hawks pull it off, or will the Celtics regain control of the series by winning at home?

You call it.

And check what they are saying in Beantown.

It is still going to be tough beating the Celtics 4 times but I will say there is a chance. The Hawks have nothing to lose right now and the pressure is now on Boston. Go Hawks!! An amazing atmosphere last night at Phillips.

It will be tough to win in Boston regardless of the circumstances, but if Garnett and Perkins don’t play, that would give Atlanta a real chance. This has been an incredible series so far for Hawks fans.

This has been the most exciting 2 nights since the Nique days. I’ve been a Hawks fan a very long time. They should have been this pumped throughout the entire season. I can’t stand teams that buy there way to championships. Boston sucked last year.. I can understand adding 1 key veteran..but when you add 3 players to your starting rotation.. you bought your way in. Hawks, we need to finish these chumps and get to the 2nd round to face number 7 Philly after they knock off Detroit!! LETS GO HAWKS!!!

By Mike

If KG and Perkins is suspended, and we come out and dictate the tempo and take the crowd out of it we have a shot. It’s really been all about tempo. In Boston we played a half court game and got blown out. In Atlanta we played an up tempo game and won. That is the key

NOPE! As much as I love the notion of the Hawks competing with the C’s. We are still subject to come back a play like who we are. A night and day team. We will lose by 20 on Wednesday and Boston will come back and close the series on Friday, but this has been a lot of fun just them competing hard. It gives us momentum for next year. PS They need to move JSmooth to SF and build around him and Al, & Joe. Accept it MWilliams didn’t bring him off the bench and give Solomon Jones a try. Block shots and rebound that all we need.

Nothing more dangerous than a young explosive team that now BELIEVES! The talent is there now the confidence has been added. Whether the Hawks take it or not the NBA will be fearing this group for years to come after this confidence building series. They are now one big post player away from becoming an elite team in the NBA.

I would love to see them take game 5 in Beantown and then see what the Bird Nest in Phillips would be like.

This game is where we see, in my personal opinion, whether we keep Woody around. It is one thing to play your brains out in front of a rocking home arena, but to go to a very imposing place like Boston and win…that is what will seperate the men from the boys, the pretenders from the real thing.

Go Hawks! Show us you are the real thing.

Hey Greg and Steve… you are the reason that this city has such a hard time developing an established-solid fan base. You guys must not really be from the A. When losers move in from out of town for whatever reason they typically claim their “home team” unless Atlanta teams are winning. Your lack of faith in the Hawks just tells me you are the “bandwagon” fans who people refer to. You are the kind of punk fans I like to “mix it up” with at the ball games.

Attended Nique’s last game as a Hawk. Didn’t attend another till they raised his number to the rafters. Thank you Hawks for finally giving me a reason to fall back in love with the team and put the anger of trading away Nique to rest. Win or lose this series, the foundation of the next great era of Hawks basketball has been layed.

That being said, not only can the Hawks win. They will. I see fear in the eyes of the “Big 3” and rightfully so. They know they can’t run with the Hawks for 4 quarters. They’re beaten allready if we just keep playing our game.

GO HAWKS!!!!!!!!

Joe Johnson abused Ray Allen in the 4th Quarter. I expect Boston won’t make that mistake again. Atlanta has to keep pushing the ball in transition and move the ball on offense. Sometimes they stand around watching. The Hawks can win this.

Ok, I love the AJC, but if I see another picture with an incorrect name under it I’m gonna throw up. Have you people lost your minds ? Excitement and momentum can win one game (possibly two)…however, experience, talent and team work is needed to win a seven game series. This is simply a wake up call for the celtics to not take their winning ways for granted. This series has two more games left…and the Celtics will truly enjoy sending the atlanta crowd home friday night wondering what happened to their home team !

Great game Hawks. The big three or shall I say 4 (Horford,Joe,Bibby,Josh) really stepped up. We could really make this series historical. The key is the 3rd quarters. Last night we had a bad 3rd quarter which almost cost us the game. Horford and Josh were exhausted and the way Solo played in the 1st half, I asked why didn’t he go back with him. At the least for defensive purposes and to keep a long body on Garnett. Perkins was really hurting us with his size and Al and Josh were doing all they could to box that big guy out. We have to sub more if our guys are gonna have the energy to give it their all in the late 3rd and 4th quarters.

OK, here it is.

It may have taken two games, but now the Hawks have an approach to matching up with the Celts that looks like it works.

Couple of observations:

  • This is the hardest I’ve seen the Hawks play, and the most fired up I’ve seen them. That’s what’s required to beat the top tier teams - that and good execution.
  • Their youth and energy, and the ability to jump out of the gym and block shots really have intimidated the Celts. The Celts know, that man for man, the Hawks can do this, but they’ll have to be consistent - no letdowns. We had a letdown in the 3rd quarter last night, and were fortunate that JJ was able to do his Superman act.
  • In game 3, I saw very few “stupid” turnovers. In Game 4, I saw more of them, mainly young guys getting over-excited. We have to eliminate these or we are dead.
  • We have to be able to handle the atmosphere in Boston. If we let it affect us, it’s all over. First trip up there, I think that’s what happened.
  • Go Hawks!

This what I hate about Atlanta, I’m originally from Oklahoma and we never treated our teams like this. Just last week, the Hawks were pieces of s**, and now you love them. I did pick the Hawks to be able to compete with the Celtics, was even getting clowned at work. I pull for the Hawks no matter what. If Marvin Williams can ever come through for us, we can beat the Celtics

I love what the Hawks are doing. These Celtic fans are extremely frustrated with what is going on. They hate they have to hear it from these rowdy ATL fans. Yeah, we saw you all out in your St. Patty’s green last night, and the majority of you translplants probably aren’t really from Boston, maybe aren’t even from the state of MA. BUMMER, HUH? KidCharlatan talks about “fair-weather fans”. The truth is: We’re just tired of losing. You have to earn the fans’ admiration and support. You don’t get that just because you put a jersey!! And that’s what this team has done!! Celtics fans wore bags on their heads last year, then the team broke the bank to acquire KG and Jesus Shuttlesworth. WE ARE NOT AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD WOLF PS… KG will be a Minnesota Timberwolf 4 LIFE!!

Dear C-Dub you may be right on both counts. I’m sure that whatever the Velvet room is, it’ ain’t Atlanta live, and I’m even more sure that Josh Smith isn’t Domonique Wilkins. Domonique was probably the greatest SMALL FORWARD that the game ever produced. Last time I checked, Josh Smith played power forward for us. His range isn’t as good as Dominique’s was later in his career, and he may or may not be as athletic. But he’s got that same sense of moment. That’s to say that he didn’t disappear on his team in the last two big games. He’s also better defensive player than Dominique ever was. I’ve been watching basketball for a long time and only Michael Jordon could strike fear into the hearts of another teams defense the way Wilkins could, but he never inspired such fear when he played defense. Josh Smith does. Every Celtic player is thinking twice and looking over his shoulder before putting up a shot in the post when Josh Smith is in there. Now, Domonique blocked his share of shots, but nobody looked for him like that. Domonique Wilkins was a great player, bottomline. It remains to be seen if Josh Smith is great or merely talented, but I will say this, the damage that he can do to a team on offense and defense cannot be underestimated. And consider this, Domonique Wilkins played with some very good players, Doc Rivers, John Battle, Spud Webb, Tree Rollins…, but they weren’t great players. Josh Smith has Joe Johnson, Mike Bibby, and Al Horford with him. Those guys aren’t just good, they can be extraordinary. In conclusion C-Dub, I wouldn’t use words like cannot when referring to this Hawk’s team because they might, just might, make you look like a C-Dudd.

Vick Supporter- bite me…I get so-ooo tired of hearing people worry so much about what other fans are doing or NOT doing. That’s gay- just worry about your squad and stf already. All this “I’ve been a fan forever” crap is so-ooo elementary- why not just talk about what’s going on in the series and leave all that out because you could not POSSIBLY know every fan so stop generalizing, you sound like a cop for goodness sake. Whenever Atl fans do cheer there is always some whinebag crabbing about bandwagoners and when they don’t cheer they are just terrible fans so is dammed if they do or don’t. Get over it and get a life or do us all a favor and move BACK to okl. I’ve been down with the Hawks too and there are times when all the complaints about their play and/or coaching was very LEGIT just like parents do with their child when they screw up- they still love- they just mad at the time because they know they could do better. Alot of what people were saying was right. I love the Falcons but think Joey Harrington stinks, same with Marvin Williams but if they do play I hope they do well and not screw things up. You expect people to fill an Arena when you finish dead last for the last ten years and for most of the entire time they’ve existed they’ve made embarrassingly dumb move after dumb move? Get real and stop fooling yourself. There hasn’t been a good enough history unlike other towns like Chi, St. Louis, Boston, L.A. or N.Y. for ANY of the franchises here to build that kind of loyalty in the 1st place and I’m a season tic holder w/Falcons so I KNOW. You can’t expect everyone to be a diehard fan with the record these teams have period. I welcome all that cheer my team, whether they started 30 yrs ago or yesterday- I could care less as long as they cheer loud and the team I CHEER FOR wins- that’s what any REAL fan would care about. Not who or who isn’t a real fan. That is so gay. If Philips Arena was half empty with all this going on, you’d still be hating saying- “Ah, look the Hawks are playing well and the fans still don’t show up!” like all the losers that say that about the Braves fans or Falcon fans always worrying about who shows up on time. Just lame, get over yourself partner.

Its amazing what the NBA playoffs reveal. The Hawks went thru the entire NBA season underachieving and playing up and down to the level of their competition. I thought as though the Hawks could have won at least 10 more games than they won during the regular season considering the amount of times they blew double digit leads in games. Howver, I never felt in my wildest dreams that the Hawks had the BEST TEAM IN THE NBA, which is what they have shown by beating the Celtics the last two games. Where will the Hawks rank once they dispose of the mighty Celtics, a team that won nearly 30 more games than the Hawks during the regular season. Ive said all along that the Celtics were the Beast in the East and if you knock them off then the door is wide open for you to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals then on to the NBA finals. I WOULDNT AT ALL BE SURPRISED IF THE HAWKS WERE TO KNOCK OFF THE MIGHTY CELTICS (akin to David slaying Goliath) and then advance all to way to the NBA Finals and end up winning the finals, coming up for air as NBA Champions. I think the Hawks have found out the last two games at Phillips Arena what Ive known all along since the Hawks acquired Mike Bibby and that is that the HAWKS HAVE THE MOST TALENTED ROSTER IN THE NBA, and they will prove that out by claiming the Larry O’Brien trophy when the dust settles and the smoke clears on this NBA campaign. Go Hawks!

I’m curious what the normal bloggers are thinking now. We’ve been bashing Woody and BK all year and now, Holy crap, the Hawks actually look like a basketball team and we are relavent in the NBA again. What say ya folks, has Woody saved his job? Has BK saved his as well? I hate to say this, but last night I was thinking that maybe sometimes you just have to stay the course and keep the coach in place, even though earlier all signs pointed to his dismissal. There is something to be said for long term stability. Still…I saw an entire year of Woody.

And I think BK should go just on the principal of his blunder with Sheldon.

The last 2 nights at Phillips have been fantastic and we get at least one more night next Friday. Keep it up Hawks!

Joe is a beast and this team has all the chance in the world to win in Boston. Even if the don’t win in Boston, Boston can’t win in Atlanta so this series is definetly going 7 games. Joe Johnson is by far the most underrated SUPERSTAR!!! in basketball. There is no one in the east who can neutralize him and Josh Smith is becoming KG 2.0. He isn’t nearly as polished as K.G., but the man can flat-out play and he is doing a better K.G. impression than K.G.His defense is making him look like defensive player of the year and he is showing what happens when a team develops its players through the draft and allows a good coach like Mike Woodson who came into an abismal situation and help a city that needed it badly with all of the other crap that’s going on around here. Even if the Celtics make it out of this series or even out of the east, how are they going to compete with the likes of Kobe, Lebron, Dwight Howard, and anybody from the Spurs, Hornets, or Jazz if they can’t even do what everyone on ESPN and TNT said they were going to do with easeand beat a measly 37 win upstart team. Also, thank you Phoenix for Joe Johnson. I will always be a Phoenix fan for giving us Joe.

Maybe I’m a fairweather fan, but you have to admit it’s been unreal to see the team play with such vigor and determination. Normally they look indifferent. The NBA is afraid to do what is right and just. Preferential treatment rules in America. Rich get off for the same crimes a poor person go to prison for. If they don’t suspend and fine Kevin Garnett at least for shoving the Referee away I am done with the NBA. A lesser named player would get suspended for the rest of the series for what the whole country saw with it’s own eyes. What is there to debate? Garnett put his hands on a Referee. End of story. Stern be a man and be firm! Don’t bow down to superstar pressure. A blind man would suspend Garnett. Do what is right or lose control of this game forever. More importantly lose a lot of fan support. So what if it’s the playoffs! Support your Refs! What if the law didn’t support police officer for enforcing a DUI on a celebrity. We would end up in chaos. If you choose to allow ratings, Celtic tradition, superstar status control, you will never get complete output from other players. You want value them. Show the world you enforce your own rules or don’t have any at all. If you don’t stand for something you will fall for everything!

Dear Hawks, I have never payed any attention to you before. I was given a free ticket in Feb. this year. I went and saw a decent team on the edge of being a good team. We didn’t win that night, but clearly we were going places. Last night on TV, I saw the most UNBELIVABLE game I’ve seen a young pro team play. JOE WAS AMAZING and ZAZA may have put our towns’ B-Ball team on the map by standing up to KG. That was ELECTRIFYING!!! I am very proud of you guys.

Thank you for beliving in yourselves and playing with fire. Can we win - HELL YES WE CAN!!!!

I’ll be watching and yelling and screaming at my old TV. Best wishes, Old woman it the ‘burbs.

We can win in Boston, if the league does what they are suppose to do with their “No Tolerance” policy.

Perkins & Garnett should be suspended. Perkins stepped over the line. I should also add, Marvin stepped over the line and should also be suspended. They lose their starting center & garbage man in the paint. We lose Marvin, which guarantees he want play, this will help Woody’s rotation. This will make us a better team, but I would start Mario West for defense. This will allow Chills to play from the bench as usual. Garnett, should be suspended, but if he plays, I am ok with that because he can’t shoot with his back to the basket. If you noticed we got more defensive rebounds when he was not facing the basket or in the paint. I feel he kept us in the game with his offense and his constant smack talking. Love that Pachulia for getting in his face.

Yes, we can win in Boston, at the very least they have to come back to Atlanta for a game 6. I think we have thoroughly knock the arrogance from their behinds.

all the comments about how the hawks have nothing to lose in this series is bogus. of course they have something to lose; no true competitor goes into a game thinking, “If we lose it’s fine with me because we weren’t meant to win anyway.” If you have that mentality then you have no business competing to begin with. you’re either in it to win it or you’re not; can’t have it both ways.

It doesn’t matter what you all say, Atlanta is and always will be a bunch of fair-weathered fans. Doesn’t matter if it is the braves, falcons, thrashers, or hawks. It just seems worse for the hawks because of their dismal record. Now, I am a season ticket holder and it is so sad that every game I went to, it was so quiet in Philips that the players could hear me from the stands. That upper deck was empty every game and I was even embarrassed at the detroit games when their were more detroit fans than us. That is just sad. Now, I have supported and cheered our boys all season long, knowing that our draft picks and the rest of the young crew will come around. I am certainly proud of them. I am not sure if they have the mettle to beat the Celts but they have definitely shown that they have the ability to be a contending team. I still think that offensive rebounds and getting rid of Woody will maybe get them over the hump, but you can’t expect such a young team to go all the way after such a dismal season. I am sure they were all so surprized to see a full house at Phillips for the first time in their lives, that they were so psyched out to overpower Boston. How they do in the next game will make all the difference. I sure hope they win. But if they do, I am sure the fanbase will triple. Just the other day, I was listening to the Bert show as Bert was going on and on about the Hawks. Funny, that was the first time I had ever heard he was going to a Hawks game (probably in his brand-new hawks jersey). It is up to us as fans to support our team through thick and thin, whether they’re playing badly or not. Do you think if there was a packed house at least half the time this past season, the team would have thought that, hey, the fans believe in us, maybe we should believe in us. This is how we can make a difference as fans.

Anatomy of a Celtics playoff game

1st Q: come out shooting, take big lead

2nd Q: adversity creeps in; take cheap shots, begin to blame refs

3d Q: come out shooting, then get tired; blame refs

4th Q: too tired to run with a faster team, too tired to blame refs.

    Hey Y’all:

SHOCK THE WORLD!!!!! SHOCK THE WORLD!!

Again, Hell yeah we can win in Boston. The Celtics are so shell shock about the HAWKS that they are knee deep in stuff. I mean, the HAwks have absolutely gotten into those old men heads. With the speed and agility the Hawks have exhibited only the sky is the limit as to wha else in the basketball hemisphere they are going to do. As I stated before, the Hawks started winning when Bibby arrived 2 months ago. Now the way he plays, even when he is not in the game, is now part of the HAWS offensive culture. Defensively, the HAWKS are going CRAZY with their”HELTER SKELTER ATTACK. They are in Bostons head to were they are frustrated and can’t get anything done. This will continue in Boston. And it is only oing to get better. The biggest impact will be on offense will be on the the wings, the forwards, with those open shots, and the SPEED of the game. Other teams do not know what to expect from the HAWKS. Before they know it, its too late. That is what has happened to Boston. And tomorrow, we will steal. And tomorrow, we will steal one in Boston. And its back to the ATL to the “House of Pain and NOISE”. The HAWKS will win this series and will “SHOCK THE WORLD!!!!”. MARK MY WORDS…….

SSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! This is a SECRET from a HAWK FAN. TELL EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But to see you delusional people actually believing the Squawks have a chance to win this series is laughable. Come back to game 5 in Boston and take another 20 point whupping then your misery will be over in game 6.

Kevin Garnett should be suspended for throwing the elbow at Pachulia’s head. If you watch the replay it was obvious that KG was trying to hit him and not just trying to get his arms free.

Kevin is a good, not great player. Beating your chest and cursing as you walk down the floor after making a play doesn’t make you great nor does it make you a leader. Great players put their teams on their back and will them to victory. In his career he hasn’t been able to do that on a consistent basis.

Come on now ATL you know the C’s will dominate the Hawks any day ……but we have to make money so lets let the hawks win at home make money and the fans happy .Now we will win sunday in Boston my predictions. So all you ATL South bandwagon jumpers including jermaine dupree who hasnt gone to a game all season and now shows up ,YOU WILL LOOSE!

Find this on Billy Knight’s Bio on Hawks.com.

“Knight has continued to reshape the look and future of the Hawks. He selected Duke’s Shelden Williams with the fifth overall pick in the 2006 Draft and added agile center Solomon Jones in the second round, and acquired free agents Craig “Speedy” Claxton and Lorenzen Wright to fill necessary positions on the Atlanta roster. Claxton gives the Hawks the quality point guard the club has lacked, and by returning Wright to the roster and complementing last year’s free agent surprise Zaza Pachulia at center, he brings the tough, inside presence Mike Woodson has desired since becoming the Hawks head coach.”

I guess we must really matter now since the bean-eaters have honored us by coming in for blog visits. They must be really worried that their vaunted “superiority” is nothing but hype(and truthfully, it is) now that they’ve been hit in the mouth let’s see what they can do back in Boston. They might have room to talk if their arena had been packed during those lean years before the “big three” and their obvious attempt to buy a championship, but the truth is that they were in the lottery with us all these years and they were this close to firing a great guy like Doc Rivers. They are hypocrites to even bring up the subject! Before their little forays onto our turf I was ambivalent about winning the series, I just wanted our team to earn some respect out of this(and they have, as I sit here posting both Golic and Stephen A. have given props to the Hawks). They don’t believe we can win it either, so now I say let’s go for it! Let’s kick their butts, Hawks, and make them go back to the drawing board next year!

First of all, Garnett will not get suspendid because he did not purposely push the ref. I watched the entire game last night and the ref was directly behind Garnett trying to pull him back. He didn’t know who was behind him. Secondly, I have to give it up to the Hawks cuz everyone said they would just fold and lose. I expected them to at least win a game, even with being from Boston, and they did one better. However, this series is over after game 6 in atlanta. Celtics will prevail.

No one expected the team to be where they are today openly, well, except for Charles Barkley. Last night’s win was huge - the key is to not get blown out in Boston. Even if they lose Weds, they will still come back home to play game 6 and the Hawks can wear them out one more time.

I don’t know if they will win Game 5. Winning on the road when everyone is against you is a lot tougher than winning in Philips Arena where the sellout crowd is on your side. I will say this though — I don’t think they will get blown out like the first two games. They were like deer in the headlights the first two games, having never experienced a playoff atmosphere before and not knowing how to handle it. Now they know the kind of focus necessary to win a playoff game and they know the Celtics’ weaknesses. At the very least it should be a close game.

    April 29, 2008 6:08 PM | Link to this

I have been quietly watching the games of this series and listening to the comments and blogs following each contest.

I am a life long Celtic fan but I am also a PASSIONATE basketball fan. I have followed the Celts thru all the Laker/Cetics finals of the 80s and the slow fade of the “Larry Bird Era” as the ORIGINAL Big Three sadly aged to injured role players on a team that was being handed over to a Reggie Lewis in his Prime. I watched the tragic collapse of Lewis against Charlotte that ultimately resulted in his untimely death…. Tragedy and misfortune have followed this franchise as far back as only getting one solid season out of Bill Walton in ‘86 and the death of len bias.

I will never forget when Rick Pitino humilated the patriarch by forcing him to stand down from his honorary title as President of the organization. I watched in frustration and depression as boston stumbled thru the last several years w only tiny glimpses of success.

I, at times, changed the channel on boston as they seemed to represent more of an expansion team then the storied franchise they actually are… The fact that I am now rallying around the team that gave me the chills since my youth does NOT make me a “FAIR WEATHER FAN”..

This season has been a restoration of the legacy, the legend, the mystique of the Boston Celtics. I truly believe Red was smiling down on this team thru a clowd of cigar smoke. As far as “BUYING” your team is concerned.. Red would have shook Danny Ainge’s hand and congratulated him for FINALLY making a move that could make us competitive again.

As far as the playoff go… Games one and two of this Atlanta series were expected as boston routed this upstart Atlanta team in the new garden. Games 3 and 4 were more like a flash back of an old nightmare. It kind of reminded me of the aging original “Big 3” in the early 90s. It was as if the rest of the team were shocked that Larry Bird could no longer muster 48 minute games and ALWAYS hit that patented fade away under pressure or the HUGE 3 point shot to put the nail in the coffin of the opponent silencing the crowd. Or when we REALLY needed a score there was no longer Kevin McHale to rely on to get you that 3 point play with one of his low post dazzlers! Don’t forget the Chief or D.J. always making the big plays down the stretch…

This 2008 Celtics team looked like they were all standing around (in shock) waiting for one of the other members of the “Big Three” to make a big play. unfortunetaly none of them stepped up. We had to rely on James Posey to hit big 3 point shots… I am so dissapointed that i cannot concentrate in work today! Boston needed Allen to hit the Big Three point shots down the stretch and Paul Pierce to start hitting some patented fade aways in crunch time like Larry Legend used to… When all else failed we needed to be able to rely on K.G. to take the place of the original “Kevin in Green” hitting those low post dazlers! My hopes were for the revival of the old Celts/Lakers matchups of the 80s this year in the finals. I need to see the two most storied franchises in all of basketball duking it out in a heavy weight 7 game series for the title and hell… the NBA needs it too just like the NBA needed Bird and Magic back in the glory days of the 1980s!!!

I havent given up yet… we will win this series in 6 games but I truly fear meeting the Cavs in round 2 if there is not a huge turnaround.

Doc, I doubt you read these blogs but if you do… read this one to ur team… maybe that will help you put the fire that brought them to a 66 win season back into there eyes and hearts before its too late!!!!

The key for Hawks winning is Heart. It is disappointing to see some opponent fans cursing at us and some people having the lack of hope.

swhite, you’re the free mike vick guy who’s getting slagged up and down on the boston message board right???

its funny that bibby called celtics fans bandwagon jumpers, which is funny considering the crowds that we saw at the garden last season, and most of the people on this board didn’t know that atlanta had a basketball team two weeks ago.

atlanta is the worst sports town in america, and once the c’s stop this madness you’ll all forget about them again.

by the way, no one who lives in boston calls it beantown, and we’re not all irish, so that blarney BS is completely lame.

hope you all have enjoyed the last few games because the C’s will set things right tomorrow.

Let me get this straight Coach Hinz. You can’t be a Hawks fan and still be realistic? Just because people believe that a 66 win team will eventually win the series, doesn’t mean that they’re not real fans and it doesn’t make them “fair weather”. I for one am soooo proud of the Hawks right now. I’ve said all year that this was a team with some really good talent, and I still feel that way. I just believe that in the end that they’ll eventually lose this series. That being said, considering the way they have played the last two games, it would not be out of the realm of possibilities for them to win. I’ll be there Friday with my towel ready. Be easy on the fans Coach Hinz.

Did anyone really think that the NBA would suspend KG, losing Marvin wouldn’t be great, but losing KG would be devasting for Boston—NBA would not let that happen—would hurt their planned matchup with Detroit and finals with the Lakers.

The reality of this series is that the hawks are younger and faster, it’s that simple. Boston is obviously the better team. They have more veterans, defensive player of the year, a stifling defense, and 66 wins under their belt. But just like last years Mavericks, THEY CANT STOP SPEED. Their transition defense is good, but the hawks players are just too young and fast. The hawks transition scoring is giving them momentum which translates into better D, more foul shots, and just a completely different team. WE ONE TWO GAMES AGAINST THE CELTICS, WE HAVE THE MOMENTUM GOING INTO BOSTON, IF WE WIN WEDNESDAY, THIS SERIES WILL BE OVER IN 6. Hypothetically speaking though, if we lose (which wont happen), Boston will win in 7. THAT’S WHAT THEY GET FOR BUYING THEIR WAY INTO THE PLAYOFFS, DON’T TAKE THE LOSS TO SERIOUSLY BOSTON, YOU STILL GOT THE PATS LOL LOL LMAO LOL hurry up and lose.

LETS GO HAWKS … NO MERCY!!!!!

    Yes,youth will win out.

And read this to see why the NBA fined Pierce $25,000. Pretty interesting.

how exactly did the celtics buy their way into the playoffs???

they built up years worth of young talent through the draft and traded it for key veteran players. now correct me if i’m wrong, but that ain’t exactly buying their way into the playoffs.

y’all need to calm down, sure your hawks looked good, real good in the last two games, but they looked even worse in the first two. so why do you think that they will be able to maintain that level of intensity, especially in a hostile environment. i’ve been a celtics season ticketholder for ten years, and i know a few things about this team, its fans and the playoff atmosphere in boston.

all the stuff i’m reading on this site about who boston fans are is totally laughable, like we should be ashamed of our teams collective success. you sound foolish. especially when you talk about boston fans being arrogant, pompous and whatever else your writers, editors and bloggers deem us. sending atl fans to boston.com web forums is childish. don’t wake the sleeping dogs.

so you’ve beat the celtics twice in a row. you’re in elite company with the wizards. good for you.

i’m angry, been angry all day, will be angry all day tomorrow and will be angry when i get to my seat in the garden tomorrow night, and i hope even half of the fans in the crowd are too. i know that the celtics players on the court are.

keep beating your chests, keep posing, keep talking, keep keep talking.

like cedric maxwell said as he pounded on the lakers locker room door….COME ON OUT AND GET YOUR BEATING!!!

    because its coming.

and if it doesn’t, if your hawks pull the upset, then you can talk

Dear Hawks, I will never doubt you again. I was one who said the Hawks would get swept in four games. Shows how much I know basketball. I watched the last two games at Phillips and I was completely stunned. I couldnt believe how cohesively the Hawks operate as a team and when I saw Joe Johnson put on that glorious performance in the 4th quarter, he reminded me of Nique and Bird exactly 20 years ago when those two legends squared off for perhaps the best playoff duel in NBA History. The Hawks will prevail in 6. Go Hawks!
