Biggest win ever at Philips?

Editor’s Note: Commenting on this blog has been turned off. To continue this conversation, click here and join the Tuesday morning blog.

The Hawks aren’t backing down to mighty Boston, owner of the NBA’s best record and the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

In fact, the Celtics have to be feeling a little green after getting knocked around at Philips on Monday.

Zaza Pachulia withstood an elbow from Boston’s Kevin Garnett and got right back in the superstar’s face. Did it look like a cheap shot from Garnett, and were you surprised no one was ejected?

Are you more surprised that the Hawks are headed back to Boston with the series tied? Do you believe the Hawks have a shot? And was that the biggest win ever at Philips Arena?

What a ballgame with the emotion the Hawks played with and the Atlanta fans going crazy. Joe Johnson was amazing tonight. I did not give the Hawks a chance after the two loses in Boston. Lets go Hawks and and take it to the Celts in Boston!

I believe that anything is possible, and right now, the Celtics believe it too. Now, is there anybody left that thinks that the Joe Johnson trade was a bad idea?

Ho-lee chit. Great performance.

About that scuffle, I found it very interesting that the old grizzled veteran Cassell went after Joe Johnson. Didn’t like it. Not one bit. But you have to hand it to him for being and smart and trying to get the ATL’s best player (and only consistent one) involved in the scrum. Great for ZaZa for taking it to Garnett.

Baby Hawks no more. You’ve earned your respect. Now it’s time to put a dagger in them in beantown. I for one am So proud of you guys! Did anyone else catch the halftime (I think) interview with woodson where even he finally admitted that to win we gotta get after the ball and run with it or was I imagining things. Either way another incredible game! Surely the biggest win Phillips Arena has ever seen. Just Incredible!

I agree mutu, Marvin has got to step it up man. It seems like his mind wants it so bad but his feet and arms just cant cooperate. No way people can seriously consider letting smooth go over marvin. Not after this season, and surely not after this series.I mean for Christ’s sake even zaza got aggressive. Freaking ZAZA!!!!!!! Bottom line is this guy has got to stand up or be replaced. What he is bringing just isnt going to cut it. Period!

Unbelieveable…..what emotion, talent and youth this team has.

Dont bash this team or the coaching staff tonight…such words will fall on deaf ears. This town is a basketball town! The national media has failed to see Hawks fans have been waiting for something to get excited about since Babcock destroyed this team.

Mr. Pierce, please introduce yourself to Mr. Johnson, all star. I cant recall a Hawks player taking over a game like that since….well, I can’t say it aloud, much less write it.

Kudos to the team and coaching staff. Where did this defense come from? Did anyone notice Bibby fouling at the end of regulation, using the foul to give; also, the inbounds play to Bibbym then Childress. Maybe all along, Woodson has just needed something to get excited about too.

No matter what happens in games 5 and 6 (because we now guaranteed another home game), this team may have awaken the dead…fanbase that is. And maybe, just maybe, this will give the commissioner motivation to get involved in resolving the team’s ownership issues.

Go hawks!!!

I am so proud of the Atlanta Hawks, they show how Heart wins games.

LA Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets was suppose to be a more competitive series, yet Atlanta Hawks are shocking the NBA.

Denver Nuggets may have a lot of talent, but the Atlanta Hawks have a lot of Heart and players that believe in themselves.

We are so proud of the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta deserves something special, These Hawks are Special. Never Give Up!

No matter what happen the rest of this serie you have to love what the Baby Hawks have done so far Being a diehard Hawks fan living on the west coast, after the 1st two games I didn’t give them a chance to even stay within 10 points of the Celtic. But now who knows if they can get one in Boston. Goooooooooooooooooo Hawks! Fly High and let your name be heard! Micron

Is it me or does this series kind of remind you of the way the Knicks beat the Hawks back in ‘99. Except the Hawks are the Knicks, running and gunning, and the Celts are the Hawks, slow and lethargic. I’m loving this, loving Smoove (except his three point shot)loving JJ and actually loving the way Woody is handling the substitutions. I said we need to get Marvin out and Woody went right to the bench and brought in Childress who is playing huge. This is exciting basketball and if the Hawks could have played this way the whole year, they would be the favorite. I think Woody had to finally admit that they had to run after watching Garnett totally dominate them defensively in the half-court games up in Boston. I am anxious to see how they play Wednesday night. I say run, run, run and then run some more in Bean-town and the run right out of town with the win. By the way, Bibby is so much better when they run.

When you have nothing to lose, amazing happens. Joe, played just about the entire game, and in his quiet way led the team on another winning journey and showed great emotion during Zaza’s run in with KG. Here’s to the the owners that agreed to bring him here and to bring in Mike Bibby. Although Al didn’t hit his usual numbers tonight, he still influenced the spirit on the floor and brings the college enthusiasm every night. Josh, Marvin, Acie, Solomon, all contributed - and when everyone plays together, a win usually follows. Congratulations to all!

Just food for thought, with the fight that broke out, marvin and kendrick perkins may get suspended. Lost in all of this is that KG shoved a ref which is clearly against the rules…does this mean he gets suspended or will this be overlooked

Boston.com is reporting that both Marvin Williams and Kendrick Perkins may have “left the bench” during the Zaza/KG confrontation thus would be out for Game 5. We may have the better team, but Boston will always have the better media.

Way to go Hawks!! Whew that was a fun game to watch. The Hawks kept getting up off the mat and firing uppercuts. Does anyone else think Garnett gets away with more? Talk about moving picks… that little hop right after he sets the pick. They called one on Horford. Call it both ways boys.

I don’t know about you all, I think this mentality, this idea of standing up and fighting has been instilled in these hawks, thanks to Al Horford. Whenever there are timeouts, or breaks in the game, you can see Horford talking with the players, giving them that confidence, you can see the expression in the other faces of the other guys, a slight lack of confidence, and you can see Horford, standing right there, next to them, unfazed, talking, pumping them up, giving them that belief that they are good. Especially after the scuffle, Horford was talking with Zaza, numerous times, you can see him talking with Josh Smith, and you can see the confidence in this young man’s eyes. No wonder the Florida team won two championship, this guy is a true winner, a guy that instills confidence in his teammates, and lifts the team to new heights. Oh yeh, another example was the recent video, the Ali fight that he showed before the game, a winner, he definitely is. Can some AJC reporter do an article on Horford and how he has brought a “winning” mentality to the team, all the subtle things he does, I don’t know, watch tapes, see how he interacts, his poise, how team members react after Horford talks with them, etc.

What a sick man. I like when KG tried to come over and help double him in the 4th and the announcer said to send the whole team.

Where was this team this year????They played with some f*** heart last night.

By the way Zaza and Horford are all balls.

I’m glad ZAZA got into KG’s face. He should have pimped slapped his a$$. He is always talking shi@$, and thinks that he can intimidate players. What, he is 7’0” and about a buck 25 soak and wet with rocks in his pockets. As far as I’m concern, he should be the one getting pushed around and intimidated. It has already been chronicled that he alone can not carry a team past the first round of the playoffs. Who is he? What has he won? He is just a mouth, and should not be feared by any stretch of the imagination.

Hortford is taking the right approach. I think he shocked and stunned the Celtics by getting in Pierce’s face, and brushing off the ball after Josh put Rando’s sh@$ in the stands. I think that may have change the series, because up until then I think the Celtics thought they had us intimidated, and I also thought that fired up the rest of the Hawks. They just needed someone to take the lead. Good job AL.

BOSTON LUE——WHERE YOU AT?????

Whre are the Celtic fans that were talking smack after the first 2 games??????

Way to go Hawks!!!! Way to play scrappy!!! Way to play tough!!!!! Way to show the playground bully some combinations and bloddy their noses!!! We still have a long way to go!!!! JJ completely took over the game….and was giving Allen and Company STRAIGHT DOOKIE LOVE!!!! How about Childress with his 8 first half boards. Horford playing tough as nails. Bibby making great choices with the passes in game 3 and finding his stroke in game 4. ZAZA playing like a school kid diving every where. And Smith just doing waht he does…channging the dynamic of the paint war with his shot blocking. Way to go Hawks!!!!

Not only can we win this series this year…but think of the springboard this is for next year!!!!!!!

I REALLY hope Marvin Williams does’t get suspended! Reason being, he may not have scored much last night, but he helped get Paul Pierce into foul trouble! That was huge! Now I know that because he’s not Chris Paul, he’s never going to get a fair shake in this city, but I appreciate what he does, and I promise you, we’ll miss him if he’s gone for game 5.

And don’t underestimate the contributions of Acie “I’m laying down the” Law IV. He has played a huge role in not allowing Sam “for the last couple of games I haven’t been Cassell” from going crazy like he did the last time Atlanta played them durring the regular season. His D on Sam has been on point!
