Injuries already hurting Braves
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Braves starter Tom Glavine left with a hamstring injury before recording an out, and the Washington Nationals ended their nine-game losing streak by beating the Braves 5-4 on Sunday.
The Braves are already without injured starter Mike Hampton and closer Rafael Soriano.
Are injuries already wrecking the Braves’ season? Is the age of the starting rotation going to be a problem all year as minor injuries crop up again and again?
Do the Braves have enough pitching depth and hitting to overcome injuries?
Are you concerned or are these injuries a normal part of a long baseball season?

Injuries are an unwanted but real part of the game.
It’s no secret, when this team is healthy, they win.
When suffering through the litany of the list of D.L. candidates so far:
Smoltz, Soriano, Hampton and Infante.
The walking wounded : Chipper, KJ and now Glavine.
The Braves have struggled because we have yet to see the team that Frank Wren and Bobby Cox envisioned.
Give it time people, it way too early for any conclusions.

I don’t wanna sound like the prophet of doom, but I hope this ain’t one’a them years where everthang goes wrong.
Take it from a long-time Falcons fan; it can happen. Everthang can be as bright as it’s ever been, then POOF. Last year was the Falcons’ “nuclear winter,” lets hope the Braves see all sunshine from here on out.
Didn’t the fake grass even die at the dome last year!?

Are we really talking about a wrecked season 12 games in? The injuries are a concern, as is the inconsistency of the bullpen. But, this team will hit their stride.
Look at the rest of the division. 3.5 games from top to bottom. The Phillies and the Mets have stumbled out of the gate and both are under .500.
They really aren’t playing poorly. After 14 years of everything going their way all the time, there are going to be a few years of some unlucky things happening. But, they are too good to stay down too long. They’ll all get on a roll soon.

When Bobby has to get involved—-we lose!
Snowed out on Thursday so all pitchers rest. Bobby doesn’t have to make any decisions at all.
Eight shutout innings on Friday so all but one pitchers rested. Bobby doesn’t have to make any decisions at all (win!)
Ten Runs yesterday. Bobby doesn’t have to make any decisions (Win).
This brings us to an afternoon Sunday game with Monday off and a very well rested bullpin and what does old Bobby do? He sits and watches a guy walk 4 batters in a row, give up two runs doing so and then, worst of all, Bobby bats this same pitcher in the next inning down 4-0 and he promptly gives up another run the next inning and THEN Bobby brings in his well rested pitchers and the Braves batters fight back but lose by a run!
You can trace it all back to the absolute worst, in-game, decision maker ever and THE REASON why the Braves are 1-13 in the last game of the postseason. When Bobby has to think, try to think, or make any decisions in a game we are in trouble. And, had Tom Glavine not pitched a one hit shout in game 6 of the 1995 World Series, Old Bobby, including his one playoff appearance with Toronto, would be sporting a perfect 0-15 in the last games of the postseason he had managed.
He’s a good old boy, players love him, and he is the best at mining his right nostral with his left thnmb in the history of the game, but when Bobby has to think, we lose!

The whole league is injured. I’d expect to see a lot more as we clamp down on the drugs that were allowing players to play longer and heal faster. Time for a smart organization to look for players with little history of injuries and great mechanics with a willingness to prepare for the game of baseball not Venice Beach as people are dropping like flys. Not insinuating anything there other than stretching, flexibility, nutrition, and all that stuff will be very important. I also think MLB causes half these injuries themselves by having players down in warm weather climates for 45 days at half speed then BAM…on April 1 they are going at it full speed at 32 degrees in NY, or CHI or DET, or KC. It’s stupid. You start the season in crappy weather and injuries occur that could ruin your season and you play your championships in potentially brutal weather as well. How dumb… I love baseball and am a huge fan as well as a player up through the collegiate level and still play now at age 45 b/c I love the game. However, we are too stuck on tradition and the 162 game schedule and most importantly, advertising revenues. We will play games at night when it’s even colder. Why in the heck in Minnesota building an open air stadium ? I hope they go bankrupt its such a stupid idea…

Hi I am Seong-Ho,Yoon from southkorea, and want to send messege to fans of Braves.
Now strangely Bobby Cox using starting players continuously, specially Kelly Johnson and Brian McCann and Mattew Diaz and Mark Kotsay need a rest at least one game per week.
Is look like for Bobby Cox’s wait K.Johnson and McCann and Diaz to injure ^*^ Of course not Cox but behind him, Babylon through neutron.
For the purpose of making space for babylon’s friends like Joseph Reyes, Joseph Sammon, Joseph Bochard, Jordan Shapfer, Brent Lilibridge, etc, Babylons are waiting the collapse of unimplanted players.
P.S: Hey Mattew Diaz, you are now using too much power at bat, and gripping bat too tightly. You have to sense the secret of batting like chipper.
Hey Kelly Johnson, you need rest one game per week at starting member, and that will make you the best status I think.
Hey Brian McCann, you started to sense the secret of batting like Chipper the great.
Tim Hudson you completed cutter congratuation!
Fans of brave!! radiate the light of Messiah to hamstring of Tom Glavine please. Penertrate please.^*^
“Expecto Petronum!!!!!!” to Joseph Reyes, Joseph Sammon, Joseph Bochard, Jordan Shapfer, Brent Lilibridge, Scott Thormann, JC Boscan, Jeff Bennet, etc
May the force of Messiah be with you

Major leage basebaseball is getting more and more like “Professional Wrestling” every day. So called injuries. What a croc! If it’s not Chipper it’s Hampton. If it’s not Hampton now it’s Glavine. Who’s next to stub his toe and go on the DL?
Poor babies! If they weren’t making gazillions of dollars I guarantee you that they would be in the line-up next game. Real baseball players play through a little pain. But they don’t have to play. Just hurt a pinkie and go home and collect your money. That’s a great deal. Wish I had it.

Of course it’s a major concern. But what did they really expect out of Hampton? And how healthy really can a couple of 40+year olds be in the pitching rotation?

Larry you are an idiot. So calm down. Bennett is there for long relief, you know like a situation like today. He is there to eat up innings if the starter cant go long. That is why he is on the team. Let me ask you this if a starter gets roughed up in the 1st do you pull him? NO! While I mention the 1st, I think we should mention that Bennett pitched pretty good in the 1st. Especially considering he probably wasnt expecting to pitch in the 1st inning. If Bobby would have used the whole bullpin then you would complain about that. You cant have it both ways. The Braves won the series so just calm down.

Some of us fans were posting over the winter that having two 40 plus pitchers as rotation anchors was a potential recipe for trouble.
Smoltz’s early shoulder tightness was concern. Now Glavine comes up with a bad hamstring.
It’s unfortunate, but that’s the risk teams take when they get older rather than younger.

Charlie I get so sick of so called fans like you. All you do is complain about these players getting hurt. You know what I think, I think you are just jealous and who wouldnt be jealous of getting millions for playing a game, but get over it. You know what Chipper, Hampton, and Glavine all have in common. They are all over the age of 35. Back in the day when players didnt make millions, most didnt play after the age of 35. Most people’s body isnt made so they can play a sport after they turn 35.

Hey Eric - Apparently you get sick just as often and the Braves players get “injured.” If you are right that most peoples bodies aren’t make so they can plat a sport after they turn 35 then WHY IN THE HELL ARE THEY ON THE TEAM!! Bring in players whose bodies CAN play. All I want is to see the Braves field a team that fans can count on to play a full season.
Oh and by the way - your use of the term jealous must mean you are a Democrat. That is one of their favorites.
After being called jealous I guess I won’t be able to sleep for a week! But you tried your best. NOT!!

Ah!! I forgot this important message to Yunel Escobar and Kelly Johnson.
Always babylon do disturb around unimplanted player’s coach like this “Don’t teach the important thing to him or you will die” You got it?
And… Escobar!!!! you have to be careful about pre-starting when you are on base from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd about the linedrive batted ball. In that time, first half steping like small hoping and second start after confirming line-drived ball uncatched. You got it? Your legs are fast enough. ^*^
And… Johnson!!!! when bunted ball come to your direction, you have to make decision after looking pither’s movement and next first-baseman’s movement, almost at the sametimes. ^^ don’t go to 1B together with Teixeira. ^^ You need some rest. Cox making Gotay to be stinct at bench. ^*^
Three catchers system is now killing whole players in restless status.
May the force of Messiah be with you

Another one run loss. Six out of Six losses in one run games. opportunities galore late in the game. They just kept leaving men on base. You would think the law of averages would finally come through for them. But until I see a trend in the other direction this team is acting like it is jinxed! Chipper comes up with runners on against a guy he was 0-8 against and swings at a ball down around his ankles and grounds out. McAnn the same way in the 9th. A guy he can’t hit. Fly’s out. This looks symptomatic of a team that doesn’t reaaly believe in itself.

Yes the injuries are hurtin us, that’s why it is better to have a plethora of pitching.
Our bullpen did well yesterday and the hitting was good but fell a little short in the ninth, that was fun to watch.

L after 12 games and I guess some are writing off the season . Momentum was with Wahington all day and we were still in a position to win. If McCann managed a hit about 70% of the comments would not be made. Washington 0-9 are going to get a few breaks in some games and win. I think with 150 games remaining it is a bit early to panic.! Now we need to go win the series against the fish Go Braves.!

Glavine is currently in the process of moving to a new house he had built just north of atlanta in the same neighborhood as his current home. When he’s there, he has been moving heavy tables and boxes around even on the days he pitches. At 42, Glavine should have enough foresight to be taking it easy especially on the days he pitches.

What concerns me is the Braves inability to get the late game clutch hit…either the tying or go ahead hit. I wonder what team has the most hits of that type in the 8th, 9th and extra innings. It would be interesting to see how the Braves rank in that statistic. My guess is pretty near the bottom….they fail miserably in those situations. On Sunday, Diaz and McCann were the culprits

The answer to Diaz in LF is Josh Anderson. Give it a try, Diaz always plays better when playing for playing time. Got it?

Okay,…now everyone may give me a dirty look for this comment…and believe you me….I dispise him…BUT maybe, JUST maybe…we need to take chance on Bonds.
If he can hit like he has been able to….maybe HE’S the spark we need. At couldn’t do any worse than Diaz. Probably a WHOLE lot better than Diaz but Frank Wren may not want all the whopla (sp) that comes with Barry Bonds in the clubhouse.

Living in GA I have been a Braves fan for a long time but for some reason this year I have been slow to get into it. What has happened to relief pitcher Gonzalez? Is he still with the team? If so, what is his status
