The Braves back to form?

John Smoltz earned his second win of the season, holding the Washington Nationals for 6 innings to just one run.

But the day may have belonged to right fielder Jeff Francoeur, who pounded the Nationals for a career high 7 RBIs with two home runs, in the Braves’ 10-2 win over Washington.

So are the Braves back to form or are they just beating up on a Nationals’ squad who’s lost nine straight?

It is a relief to see the hitters hit. The only thing worse is when pitchers only throw. And that pretty much sums up the season so far, with three exceptions: Hudson, Smoltz and Glavine.

Can not ever judge the Braves early on. They are a team that thrives on hot humid days and we are still in an April chill. Give them time, they will come around. Lets get Soriano back, get some warmer weather and this team will blast off.

I was at the game…and let me tell you a couple things.

  • The obvious…the offense was awesome!
  • The ballpark is incredible…no matter where you sit (we were in right center), the seats are great!!
  • There were almost as many Braves fans as there were Nats fans. Seriously…getting off the Metro…out of maybe 1,000 people walking by…there had to have been 300 - 350 Braves fans. I would guess there were a good 10 - 12 thousand Braves fans there…and right center were filled with us!!!
  • Today was the team we all expected to see.

    Break out the brooms !

Congratulations to Frenchy on a career best two HR, seven RBI day.

We caught the Nationals at the right time and went with our three aces.

The Braves just need to take care of business tomorrow and we are back to .500

    GO BRAVES !

I was at the game today, too. Great park, but an even better Braves offense. Guys looked really locked in at the plate. Smoltz was throwing serious gas, too. I’ll second the earlier post that there were a lot of Braves fans. I’d guess 15,000 out of 32,000 were Braves fans.

Well, that’s two games in a row that Bobby didn’t have to make any decisions: A shoutout and an offensive explosion means that Old Bobby can’t blow it with the bullpin or half to think about how to generate offense! The last two games allowed him focus exclusively on mining his right nostral with his left thumb taking a break only to bark out childish nicknames to grown men!

Our only hope to to pitch shutouts or score 10 runs!

i think its funny how every time the braves win people on this blog think we’re gonna win the WS and every time we lose bobby is an idiot and we’re gonna finish fourth. we know nothing about this team yet.

Lets see, after opening day the team was worthless. After the Pirates we needed to trade everybody. After the Mets we were going to the World Series. After the Rockies the season was over and now we are going back to the World Series. Im not making any of this up. Everything I said was blogged on this site. This is why Atlanta has the worse fans, they so uneducated. I have said all season that it is too early to tell anything and that I do believe we will be fine and go to the World Series.

I think you are exactly right, although I’m not sure TP had anything to do with it. Until Frenchy changes his approach, he’ll continue to be mediocre. He had a great game yesterday but I’m of the opinion that yesterday was a bit of a fluke. Inside pitches that he turned on and hit them a long way. But as long as he is pulling so many balls, his swing will be a shot in the dark. I’m waiting for him to go back to hitting the ball where it is pitched unless the National League pitchers will continue to serve it up inside and belt high. Seriously, Jeff has shown greatness at the plate - he just needs to adjust.

Even with Frenchy’s great game yesterday, I think it was Smoltzie’s day … Clearly he didn’t have his best command, but still looked pretty damn good out there. I wonder how much the shoulder was hurting.

Let’s hope the offense continues it’s assualt today and that Tommy has a great day.

Bennett got out of it with little damage done. Trading a DP for a run with the bases loaded…I’ll take that any time.

HEY BOBBY, You notice what the Nationals did in the 9th? 1st base open, Texeria at bat… they intentionally walk him because they don’t want their best (or 2nd best) hitter to beat them.

Take a page from a last place team and throw the damn book out the window when it comes to NOT LETTING THE OTHER TEAMS BEST PLAYER BEAT YOU!
