Braves pick up first win

The Braves earned their first win of the season Wednesday night, beating the Pirates 10-2.

Rookie Jair Jurrjens made his first start of the season. What did you think of his performance?

The bats and bullpen did their jobs as well. What are your thoughts on the game? Will the Braves get hot now?

What have you seen that you like, or don’t like, through the first three games?

Yunel is a stud. That guy will hit at least .330 this year. What a balla.

The Braves are one of the best teams in baseball, and any one who was worrying about them this early in the season needs their head checked. Now buy some tix and support your Braves Atlantans! (I was embarassed to fans leave early monday and for the the stadium to be seemingly empty tonight)

wow! I know it’s early but, there is NO pop missing in the lineup with Yunel played short. Wow! Jair looked really good as well. He’ll last longer as the season goes on and he builds up some endurance. there is a lot of really talented youth on this club. The future is bright. you can’t ask for a much better start than the first three pitchers only giving up 2 runs a piece.

We will waite and see what goes on in the NY Mets and Phillies games to see if the Braves are pretenders or contenders.

Jurrjens was outstanding tonight, especially his changeup. He had wicked movement on it all night and a nice 4-seam fastball working at around 93mph. I’ll take this start every time he goes out there. I would have liked him to make it through 6 complete innings, but he’ll get there. He’s probably still building a little arm strength. Only 64 pitches the first 5 innings shows he’s not scared of contact. He’s only going to get better and the Renteria trade could turn out to be one of the best in a long time if he continues to produce.

Prado was a beast tonight setting the table for a great offensive night for Atlanta. Kelly Johnson might want to get healed up quikly because Martin might show he deserves the everyday job. And he turned an outstanding double play as well.

The bullpen looked good tonight, and I especially like that Manny got through a scoreless 7th with no problems. Hopefully he shakes off Monday’s outing and gets back to what he did last year.

This team showed what it’s capable of tonight, and really all three games to be honest. They have scored 23 runs the first three games of the season and I expect that it will continue all year.

WHO CARES? WHEN DOES FOOTBALL START?

JJ is for real!!! Just turned 22 and throws like a vet. He shows great stuff and serious command. Trading Renteria, allowing Escobar the every day job and getting JJ in return could be the best move of the year and many more to come!

BRAVES WIN. BRAVES WIN. BRAVES WIN. We’re in the playoffs - oh, I forgot myself for a moment. Its not October yet.

The Mets, Phillies, and whoever else should’ve taken advantage of the situation when the Braves were reloading, I think it’s too late now.

AfroDawg….relax buddy. You finally won a game vs the Pirates. Seriously….big freakin deal.

Mets and Phillies should have taken advantage of the situation while the Braves were reloading? Huh? Phils and Mets made the playoffs last year while Atlanta didn’t. Keep in mind both those teams are also loaded with talent, including the best hitter in the division (Howard) and the best pitcher in baseball (Santana). You Braves fans are so ahead of yourselves its hilarious.

2 losses 2 crappy teams, and you finally win one…and we should crown them NL East champs. Just wait till Tommy Glavines 83 mph fastball starts getting belted into another zipcode. Grandpa Glavine

Poor BRSmitty. You live in a dream world buddyboy. Filthadelphia and the MUTS (aww poor little PEDRO (intentional misspelling and his hamstring) POP! are nasty cities who have nothing but nasty streets and hope for a World Series. You can dream. No one can take that away from you. IT is YOUR dream lol

Hey BRSMITTY, the Mets didn’t make the playoffs they collapsed. Watching that happen was outstanding. Usually the Braves win this division so I pay no attention to how the mets finish. I would say its more like woohoo NL east you got 2 years now the Braves are back. For all of his playoff failures Bobby Cox is perhaps the finest regular season manager in the history of MLB. This is one of the best run and respected organizations in sports. The mets are the yankees fat little sister, a sideshow of overpaid new york media hype and the phillies are the biggest losers in sports history (most losses ever). Its just a blog but maybe you should pull your head out of your end before you type or maybe you just shouldn’t say anything at all.

The Braves are fine. Tonight’s performance from Jurrjens and from SIX of our relief guys proved that it can be done. We had a one run game going into the bottom of the 8th, lest not forget. The bombs hit by Tex and Yunel made the game look like a blowout but it was the pitching that got us there. The bats came alive late and blew it open. Glad there were a few fans there tonight. Since school is still in session and it was a weeknight, I understood the low attendance. Hopefully it will continue to build as we have a great team on our hands for 2008. Keep up the great work you guys. See you on TV this week and I’ll be back in the stands on Sunday! Go Braves!!

smitty,

1 howard is NOT the best hitter in the NL. Let’s be fair, here…Chipper Jones, Edgar Renteria, and Brian McCann have hit for better averages than Howard in the last two years, and Andruw Jones as well as Prince Fielder have hit more home runs in 1 of the last 3. Howard may be thought of as the best POWER hitter in the division RIGHT NOW, and I’m not disputing that the phillies and mets are loaded with talent RIGHT NOW. The problem with your argument ends when things happen like Pedro Martinez missing 4-6 weeks with a hamstring issue. The Braves lost their starting second baseman to a knee tweak two days ago, and ended up with a defensive upgrade. Show me the organization in baseball who can lose starters and upgrade much of ANYTHING with bench players, and I’ll show you a team that wins cosistently. Are you aware that during the years that the braves were winning their 14 straight division titles, they were also having EXCEPTIONAL minor league success, including a few TITLES? Your argument is no more than a straw man, which has been burned, sir.

As for all who hated the start of the season…I wasn’t too happy with it, either, but like Bobby Cox would warn his players, coaches, and the front office…don’t get too high, and don’t get too low. Every team wins 60 and every team loses 60…it’s the 42 in the middle that mean something. The table is set, so let’s play ball.

GO BRAVES!!!

I have been saying it for a while now…I like Martin Prado. Two hits in the game, hustled his tail off and played good defense. He seemed to set the table at the top. Maybe more time?

Relax, Tomahawk Heads. You’re bound to win a game here and there. Overall, though, your team stinks, and you will be watching the Mets dance all over your pathetic rear ends!

I think though……….we will see how a pitching staff that is getting as old as me…..and beleive me you feel the pain in the fortys….It is scary to think where those 83 MPH fasballs(Glavine) will end up as season rolls on however I do think Hudson in on top of his game and Jair is on the way…the rest starters have lot of unanswered as only time will tell…
