Falcons close to trading Hall to Raiders

It’s nearly done - DeAngelo Hall is apparently headed to the Oakland Raiders for a pair of draft picks.

Now that the deal is all but done, what are your thoughts? Are you surprised the Falcons didn’t get a first-round pick in return for a player who was the eighth overall pick in the draft?

Yes I am disappointed in not getting a First round pick for him but a second round is ok but should have gotten a second pick better than a six round for him. However, I am glad his distraction is gone for someone else to deal with!

the moves the falcons have made just confirms they are ripping this team up and starting over. they have traded, released and cut everyone we knew as falcons. we should expect this team to lose 12-13 games again this year.

DeAngelo “dang he run by me too” Hall made good on his threat/promise not to play again until he was on a competitive team. HAHAHAHA!! how can you not like this as a Falcon fan…i know a db needs a short memory, but come on.

Thank goodness D. Hall is leaving. If any other Falcons have his attitude/philosophy—get rid of them also. I’m sure he will be happier with a team like the Raiders.

Unfortunately D-Hall is young and stupid. We all have been through this time in life. Hopefully he will grow up and figure out that when he speaks out in public he needs to measure his remarks. The ATL fans would have loved him if he had just not acted so negatively and made negative remarks about the Falcons.

D-Hall…please use your time here as a learning experience.

Good Luck!

We were fortunate we got what we did. Hall has shown he only cares about show me the money. No way I would pay him that it looks like that line for him started and stopped in Oakland. Yes he has talent, but no way you can take a chance on what he might do to your team if he is unhappy. A spoiled brat.

Good move for the Falcons. Hall is over rated in coverage - just ask Steve Smith of the Panthers as he has padded his yearly numbers by eating alive Hall twice each year. Did Hall ever tackle a running back? We would not have paid mega dollars for him after next year anyway. He is not a great corner - only average but, in truth, we now need another starting cornerback.

MeAngelo will fit right in with the Raiders. Too bad we couldn’t trade his buddy from VATech Mike Vick to the Raiders as well before this whole dog fighting deal came crashing down and set back the Falcons Franchise for the next 5 years!

MeAngelo is a very gifted player, but he is NOT a team player and does not fit in the NEW Falcons mindset…which is team first.

Perfect fit for the Raiders…take that attitude Me First Problem to their team!

Good riddance D Squall!!! No man has enough tallent or game changing ability to make up for a ‘me before team’ attitude. He has tallent, but is poison to the chemistry that is critical in football. Getting draft picks, especially the 34th pick, fits right into our new GM’s specialty…building through the draft. Go Falcons!!!

By Big Marc

March 18, 2008 2:55 PM | Link to this

Bad move. The Falcons should keep the little talent they have left. Trading a proven 1st round, #8 pick, for a 2nd and 6th round pick doesn’t sit well with me. Just because Hall has a reputation as a “hot-head”, doesn’t mean he should be sent packing. A good coach and GM, both making million of dollars, should be able to deal with minor player issues.

By Clay

March 18, 2008 2:55 PM | Link to this

Anyone who doesn’t see this as a good move, doesn’t care about the Falcons as a team. They only care about individual personalities, and there is no arguing that DeAngelo’s priorities were focused on himself.

The second round pick is just 5 picks away from a first round pick. There will be tremedous talent available at this position at a good price.

This sets the Falcons up even better with their #3 pick, because it allows them to take a player other than Matt Ryan and feel pretty confident of getting a great QB early in the second round. Getting a 6th round pick in the deal may seem like a toss-in, but all of the Falcon’s 6th rounders last year made the team - Trey Lewis, Doug Datish(IR), Daren Stone, and David Irons.

DeAngelo sealed his fate when he ran out of the locker room on Monday Night Football with a MV7 poster in his hands. He was not doing so to honor MV7, he was doing it to draw attention to himself and snub Mr. Blank and the Falcon’s fans.

Let’s sign a few more free agents and get on with the 2008 NFL Draft.

From a football perspective the Falcons are losing one of the most talented BUT overrated and undisciplined corners in the league. They don’t have to replace his potential just his production…should be able to do that with a 2nd round pick. From a chemistry perspective it is a slam dunk…the guy was way too high maintenence for his level of production

What a great trade. Happy trails to the most overrated CB in the league. I am so glad we traded that cancer to the raiders. Raider’s pick at the top of each round, so a 2nd from them is like a low 1st and a 6th is like a low 5th. Personally, I think the fact that they didnt have to PAY someone to take him makes Dimitroff look pretty good in this situation.

I heard an interesting analysis from an “anonymous” scout from another NFC East team on the radio this morning. Said he had “above average” POTENTIAL but he felt he was an ELITE PLAYER and was demanding payment accordingly.

I do have to admit I like the “Toast” nickname, too. Good riddance, Toast! hehe

Hall will certainly make Oakland the newest Falcon’s west-coast. Maybe now Baby Kiffin and Mr. Burns can hold hands and sing Cumbiyah M’lord. Well at least for this season. Although I can’t believe Kiffin agreed to Javon and Kelly signings. Oh well, hopefully this year if Hall becomes disgruntled, he can come on the field wearing silver and black with no logo like Baby Kiff.

Not a bad deal considering that he single-handedly lost us a game last year. He can wear his Vick t-shirt all he’d like out there and lose every game. Adios, DeAngelo, your disturbance and ability to watch balls go over your head will not be missed.

Oakland is the perfect place for Meangelo. They have a long history taking in head cases. He gave the Falcons no choice but to trade him. They did well. I think what the team got for him was fair,. it was as good as they were going to do. The only alternative would have been for Hall to b** and moan all the way through the season, poisoning the minds of younger players. We can find someone else for a lot cheaper. If they get burned by Steve Smith, well that was happening anyway, wasn’t it? Besides, Chris Houston may be a rising star. For the time being, we’ll just get a competent vet to play opposite him. Meangelo was a cancer, and I’m sure glad the Falcons cut him out.

By Najeh Davenpoop

March 18, 2008 3:22 PM | Link to this

If a guy threatens to sit out the first 10 games of the season unless he gets traded, you really don’t have much choice but to trade him.

They really should have tried to get a first-rounder in return though. If Champ Bailey can get traded for an elite running back, and the injury-prone John Abraham can get traded for a mid-first, and the unproven Matt Schaub can get traded for 2 #2s and the right to swap #1s, then D-Hall is worth more than just a 2nd and a 6th.

By Rob

March 18, 2008 3:26 PM | Link to this

Hey Free MV, you are an idiot. Hall will be replaced by a black player because every CB in the NFL is black! This is a team getting rid of a bad seed and has nothing to do with race. He was obviously a cancer and the new GM & coach realized that right away!

By EliseVixon

March 18, 2008 3:54 PM | Link to this

I am so relieved that Hall is now an ex-Falcon. Hall was nothing but a cancer on the team and he was spreading to other team members and ruining the very fabric of the team. Now that the cancer has been cut out from the team, maybe the team wont suffocate now and will be able to rid itself of any more excess baggage that is holding the team from succeeding. Halls buddy and fello allum Mike Vick wont be cut anytime soon since the Falcons have so much invested in Vick and since Vick is still better than any other qb on the team. Vick should be released from jail soon and he should make it to the Falcons 2008 training camp at which time Vick should compete for the starting qb job, win the job and try and guide the Falcons to the playoffs.

Gettting a 6th round pick made it an even trade. Anything else would be a bonus! You will add a bonus? A 2nd round pick? WOW!! Since he didn’t want to be in Atlanta, planned to sit out the first 10 games if he wasn’t traded, what was our choices?
He’s black and Falcons MIGHT take a white player with one of the picks? Is that a problem? Why? Are white players not wanted? Falcons need talented team players who are not necessarily color coded. Talent comes in all colors. Great deal!

Hate to burst your bubble here, but Vick still has another trial coming, possibly (and probably) with more jail time. He’ll never wear a Falcon jersey again, as he’s lied to Blank, let down his team mates, and let down and fingered the fans. The Falcons are going to wait to get their money back from him, then trade the POS.

DHall was the most overhyped athlete I had ever seen. I never understood how he even made the pro bowls because I was never impressed with his talent to start with. DHall is at best a mediocre cornerback. If you were to compare DHall to Dione Sanders there is no comparison. Dione Sanders was probably the BEST shutdown corner to ever play the position and is a certain hall of famer when his induction comes up. On the other hand, DHall is more hype than substance and I dont think Hall is good enough to work in the NFL at all.

Sure, a first round would have been great but it’s done, he’s gone (finally). Now he can go to Oakland and not hit anybody out there either. The only time I ever saw him hit a receiver was a little sissy slapping at the line of scrimmage, otherwise call him Mr. Armtackle! He is worried about his pretty face….ya think he is light in the loafers? Truly, seriously, I hope he doesn’t have to learn the lesson hard but maturity can sneak up on ya in a very tough way sometimes. We are better off without him, I wish Petrino had of been a man last year and done something then. Good Luck in the draft Falcons, put a premium on character please!

I dont have a problem with the Falcons cutting ties with Hall. Hall is a no talent bum who was just wasting his miniscule talent and holding up a position that someone better should have been playing ahead of him anyway. I do, however, have a problem with the Falcons getting rid of Coleman, Dunn and Crumpler because those guys can still perform at a high level. I also remember that those three guys helped the Falcons get to the NFC championship game not too long ago. Why get rid of first string talented NFL players. It makes no sense at all!! Hall, however, should have been run out of town on a rail long time ago, so Halls release is timely to say the least. I dont know if the Falcons will be able to replace Dunn, Crumpler and Coleman because they are all pro bowl players who can no longer help the Falcons.

The results will show for what players are selected or moves are made from this trade. DHall had to be moved and getting these picks from Oakland was a steal since he is in the last year of his contract. I hope all of you realize that TV time for this team will only exist when they are on the road because selling out the dome will be history next season. I sure hope some of the critics including the racists buy tickets to support this team, if not, their commments are a mute point.

He is ridiculous and not even that good. If he was half as good as he thought he was the Falcons would be stellar. He’s not a leader, he’s a complainer. He will fit in with Oakland and the Falcons could have traded him and got nothing in return, but it still would have been addition by subtraction. Matt Ryan and offensive linemen for the first four picks. A new face for the franchise and actual linemen to protect him.

And cut Keith Brooking. The last overrated player of the Falcons.

I think the Falcons really got a good deal, because I would have given the Raiders a second round pick, a sixth round pick, and Meangelo just to get rid of him. I also think that the Falcons are headed in the right direction.

How long after he signs does he trash the Falcons management and players? I give him about 30 seconds into the introduction to the press.

You people are tripping. Just like Deion. We have some of the stupidest and unlucky city of a franchises ever. All I heard before Deion was made a free agent that we need to do this cause he is not committed to the Falcons. And now everyone think it the worst decision made, let see who else, Domnique for a grabbage point player like Danny namming, David Justice and Marquis Grissom for Kenny Lofton what so interesting about those last two they left town the following year LOL! One day all of you band wagoners When things are going good Love them and when it bad you want to trash them. For once I would like for this town to keep Talent here. It’s like it is against the law around here for an athlete to speak up. But it okay for the fan and sport writers and commentators to speak yours, …… PLEASe… So what next when the spot light is on Josh Smith……. Trade him too … Huh!

Yawn. Who? I decided to celebrate the occasion by sending the remainder of my season ticket renewal money for my season tickets. My small gesture of saying “well done”.

Too bad he couldn’t have gotten some maturity in the offseason.

With his attitude, statement that he will not play in 2008 for the Falcons without a HUGE contract extension and his comments demanding a trade……..I am shocked and somewhat pleased to get a high 2nd round and a high 6th round draft pick.

Now we should probably trade the #3 for more picks and start building a solid team!

…”for once I would like this town to keep Talent here”…Chip Jones, John Smoltz. Don’t you think they have any talent?

Big Mac, you are really loose with your statement about GM making millions. The players make millions and are not paid to run their month and bad attitude as DH seem to carry daily. It seems also you must be a die-hard Vick fan WHO ALSO WAS A HUGE FAILURE AND SET BACK FALCONS SEVERAL YEARS.

GOOD RIDDANCE TO BAD GARBAGE!! You can take Glavine with you!! Both of you are all mouth and no talent!!! Let me ask you.. who are you going to blame when you get burned by all the receivers of the Raiders’ opponents? By the way, opponents is a big, fancified word for the team in the other color jerseys! LOSER!!!!

We should have gotten a first rounder - but let’s face it - he’s a 4th round head case - so a 2nd round selection with a 6th round thrown is - is about as well as we can expect.

Hopefully, the Falcons will continue to make solid decisions - so far, so good…
