Georgia’s in, but where do they stand?

Georgia’s stunning victory in the SEC tournament puts the Bulldogs in the NCAA tournament for the first time under coach Dennis Felton. The Bulldogs had to win four-straight games to earn the SEC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Despite their SEC title, the Bulldogs’ record of 17-16 could only earn them a No. 14 seed. UGA will play third-seeded Xavier on Thursday.

What do you think about the Bulldogs’ seeding and their chances? Where do you think the Bulldogs deserved to be seeded?

Who cares, we’re in the dance! Memo to Damon Evans, call off the executioner (he never should have needed one in the first place, but that’s another story) and give Felton a well-deserved pat on the back.

Great heart and many heroes!

I would think Georgia would be a 10 seed, based on their body of work, but how do you seed a major conference tournament champion that low? Maybe they’ll squeak out a 9. I wonder how they’ll play in their first-round game after having so much time to rest. They’d probably rather play tomorrow!

Even if they’re one-and-done, it doesn’t take away from their incredible SEC tournament run. This diehard Tech fan salutes the Bulldogs and their amazing performance.

Tied with Auburn for last place in the SEC? A season record of 14-16 & 4-12 in the conference? Kudos to the Bulldogs for winning the tournament, but anything higher than a #16 seed is a gift.

I respect the fact that Felton runs his program the right way and this is a nice accomplishment for you guys. It’s just too bad that there’s such a large portion of the UGA fanbase that only know how to act like asses all the time.

Congradulations to the Georgia Bulldogs and Coach Felton. I’m so proud to be a fan of a team that never gives up, and continues to show how far heart and hard work can take you. The discipline Coach Felton has instilled in this team is amazing, and the cancer has been removed from this team. He’s doing a wonderful job all around and won with what he was delt. Looking forward to possibly traveling and watching the Wonder Dawgs play in the tournament. I’m thinking a 9 or 10 seed is in order, due to the schedule, the few quality wins, and the amazing run in the SEC Tournament. March Madness is all about a team that is hott, and firing on all cylinders, and I believe the Dawgs have a legit shot at making some noise. You Go You Hairy Dawgs, and know that we’re all behind you raising cane. Congradulations once again coaches and players.

A fantastic run for the Bulldogs, and if they don’t get a higher seed, they need to just take the same positive attitude they showed in the SEC Tournament on into the first weekend of NCAA Tournament play.

In Raleigh, N.C., some of us were saying last week how great it would be if the hometown N.C. State Wolfpack could reel off four wins in a row in the ACC Tournament. But while the Wolfpack exited its conference tournament in the first round, another red-and-white clad school from the South did accomplish just such a rare four-win conference tourney title run.

So hats off to the Dawgs and three cheers for the University of Georgia! Meanwhile, Georgia will indeed be “on our minds” as we look forward to the opening of the NCAA Tournament this week. Here’s hoping the Bulldogs’ great accomplishment will also reflect favorably upon the entire SEC as far as NCAA bids go.

You know, I don’t care if we are a 16 seed. The point is that the Hoop Dawgs just finished perhaps the most unlikely run for any UGA team in the last 50 years. Who thought they would jump in to the SEC tourney and win a single game??? Remember the poll that was taken before the tournament started? I don’t remember what the results were, but there could not have been more than 5% saying we’d win it all, and those 5% were drunk. Anyway, Congrats to the never-say-never NINE scholarship players and the Coaching Staff, starting with Coach DF. GOOOO DAWGS!

Where are all the fire Coach Felton fans? Check out the blogs and you will find that I was the fan that said many times that UGA has a great coach and that he needs time. I told you so. What is most impressive about the man is that when all the support for him faded, he stepped up and fought. He is a winner. Yes, the Dawgs could have folded up and went home, but instead they have won 5 out of the last 6 games. They are champions in every sense of the word. Coach Felton is a great coach that deserves full support. I am very proud of the team. How many teams in history accomplished and achieved what they did over the last few days? I’m not concerned with the sarcastic comments because most of them are posted by idiots needing attention. Here is the new chant. New contract. Next season we bring in three high school players and the future is getting brighter by the second. Go DAWGS. I am proud of you.

“I am sure the SEC is paying a pretty penny to the Techies for the use of the McThiller Dawg Dome.”

Wrong.

http://www.ajc.com/gatech/content/sports/stories/2008/03/15/secstsoryofday_0316.html

“Griffin said that Georgia Tech would not be charging the SEC or the Georgia Dome a rental fee for the games on Saturday and Sunday. The Dome will pay for the staff Georgia Tech hired to help manage the game.

“If my house got damaged and Khalil Johnson had an extra room in his house, he wouldn’t charge me,” Griffin said. “This is what friends do for each other.”

Awesome stuff. Do you believe in Miracles? UGA needs to end the Felton crap right now…tonight or tomorrow morning.

Couple of other things. That kid from Bama who hit the tying shot against MSU probably saved a lot of lives with that shot. Imagine what the carnage would have been had that place been emptying out.

And I DO think the SEC owes Tech a big thank you. Yeah, I know they might be getting paid pretty good and all that crap, but they did not have to help out at all. The short time reaction to such a major challenge was handled about as well as could be expected by the conference and I am one die hard Dawg fan who thanks Georgia Tech for their support on helping be part of the solution.

What a waste. UGA blew all year long winning 4 conference games. They shouldn’t even be in the NIT. They should be happy with the seed. No one in this state cares about the hoops team. I tried to give away ticket to their game on Thursday and I could not. Most people were like UGA is playing a bball tourney? I guess the reason they played so well is that they are used to having 1000 people at their games. They got lucky period.

Some of these guys bloggin’ know zip about bracketology and I’m guessing “sports” in general. An honest, informed look at the whole picture will tell you UGA should have been a 12…13 at worst. To be a 14 in the West is a pimp job and you could see it in Felton’s face he knew the same. We kicked Arkansas butt twice (average 10 points) and they are a 9. What is with the disrespect of UGA??

Bob

Tech’s Ath. Dept. actually did it for free, except for the SEC paying some of the GDome staff to be there. That is class, and the SEC and UGA appreciate the hospitality. I would hope we would return the favor in a similiar situation. As a 40 year, major, DOG fan/Alumnis, I think it was pretty, darn, cool of Tech to help us out.

Anyway, Go DOGS!!!!!!!!

I’m a 22 year old Dawg fan so I don’t remember all the great teams. I’ve heard the stories of ‘Nique and the final four team, but my favorite memories are of being 10-12 and watching Tubby get the dawgs to concecutive sweet sixteens. When Tubby left and Harrick came in UGA played well for a few years before he was exposed as a cheat. It’s been a lean 5 years for Felton, but when a program is suffering from all the penalties and scholarship losses how can they not. It took a brave man to dismiss 2 starters before this season, but Felton didn’t blink. He is the right man for the job and as he recruits more players the program will grow. Sundiata, Woodberry, and Bliss are great kids who work hard. The Dawgs took an unfair situation in this tournament and put their nose to the grind and worked. Congrats to the Basketball team from top to bottom, I’ll be telling my grand-kids about this one day!

WOW! What an entertaining weekend the Dawgs provided! My congratulations go out to the team, coaches, SEC committee, GA TECH (for letting us win on their court and being Southern gents), and the fans. If I forgot someone, please excuse. Now to the question, ESPN did say, regarding the pairings, that UGA was the only MAJOR conference team who only got in by winning their conference. They know the SEC!!!

Repeat after me: “It’s not where you start… it’s where you finish!”

No way, no how could anyone have predicted this. Coach Felton and his Dawgs did an unbelievable job this weekend. I have to admit that the last three games were the only ones this year this long-time UGA basketball fan watched in their entirity. Did I jump on the bandwagon. Absolutely! Frankly the way they played and coached the last 7 weeks, they didn’t deserve to have ANYONE on their bandwagon. But you would have to be a fool not to see what happened this weekend. Hard play, good coaching decisions and a little bit of a miracle (I hope coach can somehow recognize that’s what it was.) Kudos to everyone involved and good luck against the Musketeers.

Go Dawgs!

Congrats to Dennis Felton, a true class act that deserves more time. This is a miraculous twist of fate for him. He’s made touch decisions that are not advantageous for wins/losses, but for the greater good of the program. He’s kept his integrity above all else, and if winning this tournament isn’t a testament to the coaching he’s done at Georgia, and the kind of coach he can be, I don’t know what is. I hope he’s at Georgia for a long time.

I forgot to mention that after so many times (like the Sugar Bowl) hearing TV announcers openly pull for the other guy, it was kind of uncomfortable to hear the CBS guys gushing over the Dawgs. I know it’s a compelling story, but if we criticize TV people for going against us, the opposite action is also fair game. Now if only I could find out from CBS who is UGA’s coach - “George Felton” or “Dennis Fulton”.

Dennis Felton earned the right to keep his job. Perhaps next year Georgia should schedule all there home games two at a time in Atlanta at Alexander Memorial and not sell any tickets!. What they did was truly amazing. Their NCAA setting is about right. I bet they win a couple!

UGA baseball team lost Friday to #21 Arkansas 5-1, but after being down 10-1 after 5 on Sat, comes back to win 15-11 and then win 13-2 today.

The Gymdogs defeated No. 10 UCLA with a season high 197.900 (great for those that understand gymnastics scoring).

UGA softball sweeps South Carlina (3 games) this weekend.

UGA men’s golf finished 2nd in this weekend golf tournament.

UGA Football is about to crank back up for week 2 of spring practice!!!

Where is Chipper Tower’s Apology to Dennis Felton ?

The Atlantic 10 is a strong men’s basketball conference this season. Xavier Musketeers are a legitimate consensus Top 10 team this season. Just because I haven’t heard of any of the team that they beat, doesn’t alter the fact that Xavier has done very well this season.

Can they beat UGA ?

I don’t think that there are any games in The NCAA Tourney which UGA will win this season.

I was hoping all season long, since before the season started to be in The NIT Postseason Tournament. UGA took Ole Miss’s NCAA Bid, so we are Not In the NIT, and Ole Miss is. Ole Miss should have been in The NCAA Big Dance. But, Ole Miss could not beat UGA when the NCAA committee was sequestered watching them.

Ole Miss is out.

As for this Mark Bradley AJ-C CLOWN, he stated THIS MORNING that there would be AS MANY NCAA bids for The Big Ten (11) and ACC as there would be SEC. I said that was BS.

All along, I said that was BS.

By ............................................BuLLdawg

March 16, 2008 8:23 PM | Link to this

Mark Bradley said this morning the ACC and Big 10 would have as many NCAA bids as The SEC.

The ACC ?

ACC : 4.

Big Ten (11) : 4.

SEC : 6.

Georgia did NOT sit there and cry and whine. UGA went out there with heart and guts and WON. We earned our NCAA bid.

As for Virginia Tech being in the NCAA; they are NOT. And, I told you all along, VT would NOT be.

Maryland ?

I also said all along that Maryland would NOT be.

Georgia Tech, I said that they were NOT as Good as Georgia IS.

In 1983, UGA Won The SEC Tournament SEC Championship. In 1990, UGA Won The SEC Regular Season Championship. In 2008, UGA Won The SEC Tournament SEC Championship.

Georgia Tech had 1 season in which they accomplished ANY of this in The SEC : 1938.

Georgia has a WINNING RECORD. Georgia Tech has a LOSING RECORD.

There are four (4) of the 65 teams in The March Madness who had a tougher strength of schedule than UGA.

Xavier is one of them.

Don’t give me this crap the ACC is the best men’s basketball conference. That’s BS.

According to The NCAA.

A friend pointed out to me that The AJ-C does NOT decide who is fired and who is NOT.

Did you get that Chipper Towers ?

Hey, Chipper Towers, who is the better men’s basketball team this season, Georgia Tech or Georgia ?

**Hey Georgia bulldogs - I don’t know that congrats are in order because I watched most of your games and they were the most pathetic games I have seen - the SEC really sucks, I mean you guys are like a bunch of dumb inbreds down there in the south. wah, wah, wah about playing 2 games in a day it actually played in your favor as UK was going to wipe you up the night before with all their fans their.

DON’T EVEN DREAM ABOUT A FIRST ROUND WIN - THIS AIN’T FOOTBALL - THIS IS BASKETBALL AND THE SEC SUX AT THAT.

TRY AND NOT SHOOT ANYBODY, FORCE YOURSELF ON A GIRL, OR STEAL FROM ANYBODY OK BULLDOGS….

And for all the Georgia Tech fans on this board - you suck almost as bad as the bulldogs. You are just geeks instead of redneck inbreds.

They should not be seeded at all. A team with a 17-16 record with 4 straight wins against poor SEC teams should not be in the NCAA tourney. They will loose in the first round big time.

Thoroughly enjoyed Georgia’s phenomenal run in the SEC tournament. I was able to finish a USTA tennis match and get home to see the end. My son a Florida fan took me to the Ga/Fla and I saw a very weak team and I was not impressed. Thank Tech again for their use of their building. I give that factor the reason for winning. Home away from Home.

First, most of the people on this chat need to spell check their rants before they post them. Second, UGA fans seem awfully bitter towards Tech and their fans. UGA has a powerhouse athletic department, draws infinitely more fans to football games (although usually not basketball games), and has a MUCH larger fan base than GT. So why all the animosity? Perhaps it is because Tech has four nat’l titles in football and UGA only has one.

As the post of record, here is my take:

  • If Muttland is so good, why could it not do this in the regular season?

  • It’s always interesting to see the Muttlanders care about basketball. Most of them did not even know they had a team.

  • Great recovery from Basetball 101 though. And to believe your coach would have been fired if he Muttland had lost Thursday night against Ole Miss.

  • Good to see Tech step up to accommodate the SEC. It says a lot that after we had a game “rained out,” we helped the SEC out for games which were “stormed out.”

  • How could four teams all seeded higher than Muttland in the tournament, lose?

  • I think it all says more about the SEC than the merits of Muttland.

    THWG!!!

The no call with 1.2 seconds when Kentucky was inbounding the ball was pathetic. The no call late in the game with Miss State when a Georgia player held a guy so he could not get to the ball was pathetic. Georgia continues to be the luckiest damn school in the nation. The no call against Kentucky was a no brainer. That gets called 99 out of a 100.

For a team which 6 hours ago had no chance of even being in the tourney, I’m not going to get upset about the seeding.

My take is that probably they should be an 11 seed, about like Kentucky. Then again, to get to the Sweet 16 as an 11, you have to beat a 6 and a 3, just like a 14 will— you just have to beat them in a different order. No problem with the seeding; this is fun.
