King just wants to play football

Spring football practice at UGA has given redshirt freshman Caleb King an opportunity to do what he does best - “Go out there and play football.”

He’s been one of the most publicized recruits in years, and now he’s ready to prove he has the ability to match the reputation. Said assistant coach Mike Bobo, “We’re very pleased with him and the progress he’s made, and we’re going to continue to work him and give him what he can handle.”

What are your thoughts as King prepares for the upcoming season? Can he team with Knowshon Moreno to give UGA a dominant backfield?

Let us know what you think.

He can absolutely help give UGA a dominant backfield and we will need him. As good as Knowshown is he will need some help. Let’s hope with a year under his belt he knows the offense in and out.

I hope he works hard and stays hungry. The “carrot” of substantial playing time should be enough to keep him going…and with a more experienced line, a 3rd year starting quaterback, and Knowshon out there with him…he has every chance to be great! Good luck to him and all of the other new Dawgs out to prove themselves worthy. Run fast, hit hard, and stay healthy!

He will contribute. Give him a few games to build a little confidence. By mid-season he will be a huge asset. Don’t forget Richard Samuel, too. He is a bruiser. He is a positive yards kind of guy. I had the chance to see him play in a game last year. Not very shifty, but he gets up to speed quickly and is strong as heck. With Knowshon’s shifty moves, Kings speed and vision, and Samuel’s power running, not many D’s are going to shut down this running game.

We all might as well give up and not even play the 2008 season. By all local media accounts, the dogs will run the table beacuse of all of the so called talent they have. So let us all reload and start discussing the 2009 season. Oh, I forgot. No need to play that season either. All NCAA Div 1 programs should disban because the dogs will be “picked” to be chumps forever. Yeah right, My big old hairy butt. I will be glad when they have to strap it up and play rather than practice. The hype will end when the OBC spanks your butts yet again in Columbia. When is it Mule day again in Georgia? That will be a good photo op for your the team on the mule’s butt. Fear the Gamecock crow. Bleeeeeeeat me!!!

What’s it like to lose your last six games, miss the bowl, then have a s** recruiting class and no QB coming in this next season. Did you say Fear the Gamecocks? Who has ever in the history of the gamecocks? South Carolina sucks now just like you always have. Not even Steve Spurrier can recruit to that slum of a campus. I drove through Columbia once. The USC campus is run down and dirty.

Oh the humor. When was the last time the cocks had anything to look forward to anything more than the Liberty Bowl. It’s like Tech thinking every year they have a mediocre team. the humor of it all. Most teams that had a year as UGA did last year; with what they have coming back. They would be just enthusiatic about their team’s upcoming season. As a whole team, what does the Cocks have coming back. Their D is good, and will be among the best in the SEC. But what about the team as a whole ? How will they score any points ?

Almost every year we have a load of potential at running back at UGA. Some pan out and some don’t. Moreno is the first legitimate dependable back we’ve had since Robert Edwards. Yea, we’ve had a lot of talent there, but seldom has it become anything more than a serviceable player. King has a lot going for him because with the emergence of Moreno, he has a crutch. However, it could make him driven to excel. If he works hard enough, believe it or not, he could surpass Moreno’s stature. That is the key, though. “Work hard enough.” Mark these words. Washaun Ealey will be the next coming of greatness at UGA.

I think I remember when gadog drove through Columbia and as you state, it was only once. The town had an ordor that some kind of team had come through. It must have been a horse, mule, dog, or goat team that he/she was on because the manure was hitting them in the face. Speaking of slums, I would not even walk through the thug ga campus. There is humor every year when we all hear is how the dogs will win without playing a game. The dog fans and media start playing the what if game as soon as one season ends. What if a 6 turns out to be 9? If you are so sure of all of these wins and the final so called poll status, then place your bets. At the end of the year we will settle up. The OBC still spanks your butts. Fear the Gamecock crow. Bleeeeeat me!

The Old Bawl Sack pulled one from his anus last year and power to him. Don’t look for a repeat. I expect after the beat down the Dawgs put on SC this year OBS will see his complete irrevelence and bolt from Columbia like his @ss is on fire

Moreno and King will be much more a spectacular tandem than we saw with Arkansas’s McFadden and Jones last year. Both have different running styles but both with exceptional speed. Yes Whitegoat, it is yet to be seen on the field and we haven’t won any games yet but you can bet your big ole hairy butt USC and Spurrier has been marked on the calendar for quite sometime. After wasting my life reading Whitegoat’s comments I have come to the conclusion that the only campus he had ever set foot on was ITT Tech. C4 is really going to have a lot of pressure living up to the hype for a guy that hasn’t played in 18 months. Let’s let Knowshon do his thing and if C4 is ready bring him along slowly, but we do not need Bobo experimenting and losing the chemistry that the team had last year. Give Knowshon the recognition he deserves and let him carry us as he did last year. We do not need any dissension on the offense and I am afraid the Bobo may feel pressure to play C4 even though he may not be ready, after all the SEC is much different than playing for the Christian Academy 18 months ago…..

When I was young, we had what was called the “T-formation” with the quarterback behind center and behind him the fullback flanked by two halfbacks. Worked then, wonder if it would work in some fashion today. My goodness guys, we have so much talent, some of which will redshirt. If they all were ready, as a coach I don’t know who I would put in. Maybe just a pure rotation by the numbers. What about the old “Wishbone” with three backs. Defenses pretty much can prepare for that because it is directional, but the “T”, maybe some brain power, a little imagination, a defense looking at a pass or three running backs “who’s gonna get it” situation. Confusion, you bet. How about it Bobo. Maybe worth a try and MB, your dad can tell you all about it! Maybe a surprise “T” line up at a critical game just to watch those linebackers jumping around!

Look for Georgia, barring injury, to have the most dominate backfield in years, if not all time. BUT, this statement is based on the men up front. While the backs have talent, the men up front will be the BEST Ga has had in years. Championships are won up front on Offense and Defense. Talent begets talent, so Ga’s future is very bright.

As my name suggests, I am a Tech man all the way, but I’ve got to disagree with those who seem to be putting down the UGA 2008 back field. Those guys are going to be loaded and awfully hard to stop. They have done a great job recruiting top athletes and can only hope that the Jackets start cutting into getting some top Georgia high school players.

And to the guy who criticised T. Bowden for taking away the scholarship from the kid who took in his brother; the young man is graduating in three years, in August, before the season begins. Just to keep the record straight.

Fear the Gamecocks. Are you delusional? PLEASE don’t base your belief on last year’s result. The GA team that played that game is not the GA team you will play this year. You have NO offense (even with Spurrier). I hope for your sake this Garcia kid is a player (if he can stay out of trouble). You play good D but you are on your third DC since the end of the season. Not being a homer here but realistically if Carolina stays within double digits of GA this year they should consider it a victory. We have a third year starting quarterback, a redshirt Soph. potential Heisman candidate at RB (with a redshirt Frosh. #4 who might be as good as #24 backing him up). We have a stud fullback blocking for them, an offensive line who dominated the latter part of the year last year and who will only be better this year. Our WR tandem of Mo Mass and AJ Green will stretch the field and light up your DB’s. Last but not least unless you have forgotten GA can play a little D as well. If our kicking game is solid (with Walsh) we have no weaknesses. Can your chickens come with anything close to that. Didn’t think so.

While James Davis was not misquoted by the writer in the Charleston story, James did not portray an accurate picture of our scholarship commitment to Ray Ray from a financial standpoint. When the coaches met with Ray Ray, it was made clear to him that if he decided to remain at Clemson, his scholarship would be provided. That includes a commitment that we would give him a graduate assistant position within the Clemson Athletic Department after he graduated. Tim Bourret sent out a statement to this effect on Sunday.

From a football standpoint, coaches met with Ray Ray and made it clear to him that he had four talented running backs ahead of him this fall. We have two of the top running backs in our program’s history currently on the roster and two of the Top 10 running back signees in the nation are coming to Clemson this fall. If his future goals involves playing professional football, he needs to get on the field. If he is to get on the field, he needs to transfer to another program.

But, he has the option to stay here and have his schooling paid for through the next two years.

Just to keep the record straight.

Im not one to make predictions because Ive only seen King in High School. What I have been hearing around campus is that he is without question better than Moreno. Just a matter of seeing it happen. A very popular coach on Georgia’s Defense has stated more than once that he has more natural ability than any back he has seen in the game for many many years. This will come out by Fall. Coaches have made a special effort to play this down. I believe it mainly because what I have seen. He is beyond special.

White Goat, a few points:

  • No one in Athens fears the “OLD” (emphasis intended here) “BALL” (uh huh) “CROTCH.” And I mean no one. That’s over and done. Happened the minute he left Florida. Columbia ain’t Gainesville. The Gamecocks ain’t the Gators. And while Spurrier’s team won in Athens last season—giving this year’s Georgia team a major motivation for the beat-down the Cocks will get in Columbia this fall—it was Georgia who beat Georgia that day, not Spurrier (whose offense scored only one TD against the Dawgs). It’ll be a different Georgia team you see on the field this September.

  • It sucks that you’ve caught that same Gamecock psychosis that South Carolina fans everywhere have each preseason. Georgia dreams of national titles. South Carolina has delusions of adequacy.

  • Moreno, King, Jackson, Thomas, Samuel—it doesn’t matter. All of them are better than anything the ‘Cocks have, and with our line, the ‘Cocks are going to be over and done before halftime. Mark it.

I am a UGA from South Carolina and it hurts to hear the degrading remarks about my home state…in spite of the truth behind the remarks. THe COOT U people have always been wanna bees. THey have never won and outright championship in the history of COOT U. Imagine that…only one co-championship and that was in the ACC no less. The COOTS have tried to acheive success by hiring three former MNC coaches. First was Paul Dietzel who won at LSU. Then came Lou Holtz who won at Nortre Dame. Now we have Spurrier who won at Florida. Stevie has won 20 games in 3 years. At any other SEC school they would have fired him. At COOT U they call him a genius! That goes to show the fottball intelligence of the fans of COOT U. They call themselves USC..there is only one USC - THe University of Southern California. Then they call themselves Carolina. The rest of the world knows that Carolina is in Chapel Hill, not Columbia. This poor school does not have a name that is recognized nationally. How retarded can they be? The top athletes in the state go to other schools, not COOT U. They are an embarrassment to the SEC. Our winning percentage against the COOTS is 75%. That is crazy. Yes, the beat us 16 to 12 last year but I guarantee you that they will not beat UGA in 2008. The have an unproven quarterback, unproven running back and a defense that was last in the SEC in rushing defense. Yes, I know the game will be played in the STATE FARMERS MARKET STADIUM. There is a home field advantage because the COOT players are accustomed to the smell of rotten produce, but we will win as we do 75% of the time.

We need to be talking about King. I haven’t heard a whole lot about him other than he’s supposed to be as good as, if not better than, Moreno. If that’s the case, with the O Line we have, this is going to be one hell of a season. Like someone above wrote—-no weaknesses! Good luck to King because we already know what Knowshon can do. Defenses in the SEC will be coming after Stafford hard. Real key to King’s playing time will be how well he can block and pick up the blitz. Dawgs cannot give up the pass everytime King is in the backfield. This skill is usually developed with experience and King just doesn’t have it yet. If the Dawgs can pick up the blitz regardless of which back is in the game, “dominating” is probably too weak to describe them!

As far as I’m concerned Knowshon Moreno made last years team. Now before people get all crazy listen up. He brought a lot of passion and swagger to the field and that obviously rubbed off on his teammates, the Florida game set it off. Of course the team was amped up,but they all seemed to be “little Moreno’s” themselves and after that we were on a roll. That being said I watched alot of (H.S.)video on both RB’s and honestly while Knowshon was racking up numbers in Jersey,King was embarrassing much better talent. this will be Knowshons team until he leaves, King is going to really turn alot of heads. Your gonna see alot of loooong runs from him. Throw in Thomas and Samuels and it’s a wrap. These guys are going to be incredibly tough.
