Chipper needs to be healthy for the braves to make a run at the division. I think that this is just a bump in the road and the rest of his season will be injury free.

Not good news on Chipper BUT… as hammys go, this one could have been a lot worse. I’m guessing about 10-14 days he’ll be back in there. He doesn’t need 6 weeks of spring trainging anyway.

Porter will put Chipper back together. Have to get him ready for his tee time. Clearly, Spring Training is for golf, not for conditioning.

You guys need to quit ragging on Chipper.

He’s done a lot for this organization and the Braves likely wouldn’t have been so successful over the years without him in the lineup.

He’s a vital part in bringing the East home this season!

By Alex

March 2, 2008 1:27 PM | Link to this

What’s new? Same story. He’ll miss another 50 games this year due to injury. Chipper is the most injury prone player in baseball. Who else gets hurt taking B.P? He should try stretching. The braves can’t rely on this guy. In the lineup one day, out the next. He’s great when he plays but as soon as we start rolling, he gets injured and we lose all momemtum. Hopefully Tex can pick up his slack this year.

whoever said we let the wrong Jones go is an idiot. We are not a solid team without Chipper and he obviously makes a huge difference in the lineup. I dont understand how anyone can bash him hes done more for this team the last 14 years than anybody else. you are all crumbs if you have lost faith in Chipper. If you remember correctly he took a paycut just to get Hudson so i dont want to hear about how Chipper isnt helping this team

Hoss has bad wheels , period. It’s not his fault and the Braves don’t appear to have an everyday backup plan should he go on the D.L. during the season.

They had Willy Aybar and before him Wilson Betemit.

Omar Infante and Martin Prado are capable utility guys but not everyday players.

Shifting Escobar over to 3B and installing Lillibridge at SS appears to be the best option if Chipper goes on the D.L.

Alex G. we still have lots of faith in Chipper. I completely believe Chipper will miss 30-50 games this year. As soon as he gets a hang nail or has a bad hair day he’ll sit another week. If that guy’s not completely 100% he ain’t going to be in the line up. All you needed to know about Chipper and his “injuries” was when Smoltz called him out last year for sitting so much. Suddenly he was in the line up the next day. One thing Chipper will never do is pull a hammy RUNNING OUT a ground ball. The guy’s a bum and the only reason the Braves still have him is b/c nobody else would take him at that price with his “injury” history and age.

I have never seen a player of this caliber with a poorer work ethic. Who knows when he is actually hurt? It would be nice to have one player with Andruw’s work ethic and willingness to play through pain, but with Chipper’s plate discipline and Andruw’s power. Personally I would have resigned Andruw and batted him eighth.I fully anticipate some Cy Young Awards in L.A in near future. If you think he did not play a huge part in all those won in last decade you just ain’t paying attention.

I was just passing over the ajc.com storylines and there it is—another preventable injury to a guy that’s being paid to perform and stay in shape. Chipper apparently doesn’t take his obligations very seriously. It’s obvious. It also reminded me of why I don’t watch baseball anymore. Believe it or not, there was a time when these guys weren’t coddled and they played with their spleen hanging out. They appreciated the chance to play a game for money. Not any longer. Makes me sick to think people want to call this game our ‘national pastime’.

By somelimes

This blog is pathetic because people like GodHates Trash, Marcus and Alex. You guys sounds ridiculous and honestly stupid. Try using logic because when you say Chipper needs to try stretching that is just a stupid thing to say. They got rid of the wrong Jones are you kidding me? Yah let’s get rid of the face of the franchise, one of the best switch hitters ever and one of the best hitters in the game right now for a some rally killer who doesn’t take advice from coaches and live up to his enormous potential cuz hes more concerned about pulling a home run every pitch. You guys are pathetic and know nothing about baseball so stop trying and honestly please stop being a braves fan, it’s embarrassing.

By BravesFan-08

March 2, 2008 3:26 PM | Link to this

Chipper needs to be in the lineup for Braves to win. Show me some photos of Chipper stretching and I will not feel worried. Easiest way to prevent hamstring injuries? STRETCH AND STRETCH AND STRETCH. I am surprised Chipper has not introduced new flexibility (yoga, pilates, etc.) into his off season routine. This stinks for Braves.

By Gutrake

Chipper Jones used to be pretty good when he first came to the braves but now stays hurt all the time.and seems to be lazy.He allready has all the money he needs he just needs to retire. The braves don’t have enough talent to hang with the mets or phillies get over it people.

By Les

March 2, 2008 3:43 PM | Link to this

First of all any adult with the name Chipper must call to question his maturity and self-respect. It has been obvious with his use of dip and his beer consumption he hasn’t the self-respect to take care of himself, nor a clue as to how to achieve optimum health or maintain it. Additionally, injuries like this tend to be more common in the poorly trained athlete than the well-trained athlete. As he ages these types of injuries will become more commonplace and take longer to recover from than they have been in his previous years. It is time for the Braves to cut their losses with this one.

By Gutrake

March 2, 2008 3:44 PM | Link to this

By the way, somelimes, if you also have a pretty mouth then maybe you can bribe him into giving a little more effort while you’re stretching his hamstring. And you call other people stupid? I actually feel more stupid from just reading your blog effort. I don’t know why I bother sometimes. Maybe because you set yourself up so nicely and I just can’t resist.

Somelimes, my apologies. I looked your moniker up and it says ‘somelimes’ can be used as is when quoting sentences concerning fruits(wow, talk about coincidence). “Sport, you wouldn’t know logic if it pulled your hamstring.” I don’t even need to say anything about that, the stupidity speaks for itself. It’s kinda sad how this blog has turned into making fun of people’s names but then again it’s even more sad that this blog was even created and a minor hamstring tweak on March 1st is such a big story. Look it’s obvious you guys dont watch baseball close enough by your comments and you’re probably on here to hate on him cuz of your own insecurities. The FACT is he is an incredible ball player STILL and has had a couple freak injuries that were unavoidable. He has resturctured his salary before for less money so it can be spent making the TEAM better. When was the last time youve heard an athlete do that? What’s sad is how society today wants to concentrate more on hating on someones freak injuries and a tweak on March 1st rather than the postives hes done in an era full of selfish money hungry athletes.

And, buddy, I am really sorry that I hurt your feelings. You seem like a nice kid on the wrong planet, or you may have sports posters all over your basement bedroom wall, not sure which… Anyway, it’s been therapeutic to poke fun at your sycophantic wallowing over a hapless sports hero in decline. With all due respect to Chipper, the past few years that I have been in this city, he always seems to have some injury or other. I’m just wondering if the franchise needs to spend millions of $$$ on an unfit Chipper, esp since this injury thing is not exactly a one-off event. Maybe he is past his prime and we could pay all that salary to someone younger, fitter and hungrier?!

Wow what interesting conversation on this blog. Two morons without a brain cell between them making feeble attempts to insult one another, completely ignoring the fact that NEITHER has a sense of humor. Pitiful. In other news from the Orlando Hooters, Chipper pulled his glute muscle when he busted his nut prematurely while rewarding the employee of the month in the stock room. More at 11…

And using more big words doesn’t make you sound smarter. Now hopefully we have killed this blog because like Bill Parcells jsut said, “This latest report is just another example of journalistic irresponsibility.” Turning a minor injury into a huge deal that draws a bunch of negativety. Why couldn’t a more positive blog have been started like “Happy About Hampton’s First Outing?” Of course im sure that would bring out all the haters too

“Gutrake slurps somelimes”. Isn’t that Hooters’ stuff old news? That’s been stand-up material for years, hasn’t it? If your specialty is detecting brain cells and identifying morons, maybe you should engage in some self-analysis before you attempt narrative efforts requiring more than a kindergarten diploma. I was minding my own business having fun with somelimes and, somehow, you figure we need to hear your input? I was enjoying our father and son conversation when—all of a sudden—you give an unsolicited opinion including adolescent newscast humor? Am I supposed to take you seriously?

It is what it is — that’s part of the deal with C Jones and has been for some time. He can be a force when he’s on, and there aren’t too many of those out there, so we gotta take what comes.

BUT, Chipper’s history of injury was a legitimate reason why we shouldn’t have let Renteria go — we needed our new shortstop to be there as an everyday backup at third. As it is now, we can’t come close to plugging that hole in the lineup when Chipper’s out. That is just part of our deal, and we made believe we didn’t have to worry about it.
