Bibby era begins for Hawks

Guard Mike Bibby will make his Hawks debut tonight when Atlanta faces the Los Angeles Lakers.

The 10-year player brings a career scoring average of 16.7 points per game and much-needed leadership to a team desperately in need of a solid veteran leader. How much of an impact do you think Bibby will have on the talented, but young, Hawks squad?

Let us know what you think. Also, check out Sekou Smith’s most recent blog and the AJC’s Hawks page.

Me neither!!! I’m so geeked up about tonight. I think Bibby’s impact will be enormous. He’ll be able to get the ball to Horford and Smith in advantageous scoring positions in the post. He’ll be able to set up Joe and Marvin on the perimeter by hitting them with those soft passes that shooters need. He’ll also open up the floor for everyone else with his ability to shoot from the perimeter and penetrate into the lane and dish. And that’s just in the half-court! If Woodson lets him push the tempo, this team will really take off. Then you have his playoff experience, leadership, and winning habits and this is an absolute dream trade. What makes it more amazing is that the guy who pulled it off (Billy Knightmare) up until this point was one of the 3 most incompetent GMs in the league. I’m completely flabbergasted!

Dare I make such references as “Key to the ingnition”, “straw that stirs the drink”, “leader of the pack” and so on…. I have listen to you all for the entire season and most of you are so stuck on stupid just to hate on Billy Knight that you can’t even appreciate a great move.

I admit I would have loved to have Roy, Paul or Williams come out of the draft, but if my memory serves me correctly I don’t remember an overwhelming majority screaming for these guys at the time (exception of anyone but Sheldon Williams).

It’s not like we got nothing in those drafts. All of you Johnny come lately’s who predict the best draft candidate two years after the draft is over are fickle and void of any GM experience.

Good Job Billy!!! I have sat through Pete Badcock, and Stan Keestan’s drafts of the Ed Gray’s, John Contract, Roy Marble head, oh not to mention the sacreligious trade of Dominique Wilkins for oft injured Danny “bad knee’s” Manning and never heard this much whinnning! Don’t let me get started on their coaching selections, Bob Wiess. Bob Wiess! He didn’t even look like a coach!

I’m telling you now that Billy has missed on some but his predecessors missed even worse, which is exactly why we are in this situation of rebuilding! Know your history before you open you big hater mouths the next time!

I’m also anxious to see what happens. But I’m also wanting to see how Salim and Mario and Soloman react since they should get more playing time which is what I’ve thought all along. Also, no reason we shouldn’t make a push towards the playoffs. We just gotta keep em running.I still wish we had a big man though in the middle to help Al What ya’ll think?

Get your Popcorn ready! This might be a hard stretch, but this trade makes me so excited about the rest of this season and the future! All we need now is a big athletic center so we can move Josh to the 3 and Al to the 4 and we will be dangerous! c’mon Billy we’re almost there Marvin for a Big! Let’s do it!

Like most of u guys, i cant remember the last time i was this excited. that being said, I’m still cautiously optimistic about the team, just because it’s been so difficult for us to maintain consistency. this western road trip will really help gage our chances in making the playoffs and cross or fingers, further into it. hopefully, it wont take too long for bibby to gel with our other guys…i feel he’s gonna mesh really well and pretty soon. and a point of emphasis has to be the positive effect the move has on Acie’s game. it’ll be interesting to see not only his growth, but other players who haven’t made as great an impact/haven’t been given a chance such as Solo and Salim.

Let’s go into LA and take a win though in the meantime! we’re 11 point Underdogs for god’s sake!

Hey DMan

You are a moron.

  • “Ed Gray’s…Danny ‘bad knee’s Manning” = the apostrophe makes these words possessive not plural.
  • Go back to grade school dude!

Billy Knight is the worst executive in Atlanta sports history!

Domnique was shot when they traded him.

All those Pete Babcock teams did was make it to the playoffs EVERY year!!

Bibby is a great acquisition. Woodson is still a bad coach, the Hawks shouldhave been a better team with the talent they had before Bibby. They will be better but not because of the coaching. Get him out of here!!!!

Nick Fazekas got released today. Lets get him. Young 6-11 shooter. Not a defender but may be worth picking up to see what happens.

No No NO Look we need to trade Josh Smith and Josh Childress and Solomon Jones and Zaza Pachulia and Salim Stoudamire and a 2010 pick and 2011 pick to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala and Louis Williams and Thaddeus Young and Jasen Smith. Now you can say Playoffs EVERY YEAR!!

Reality man- I have to disagree with you about Babcock…..yes, while he was here the Hawks did make the playoffs, although not every year….under Bob Weiss (remember him) they went to the playoffs 2 out of the three ys he was coach…..and Dominique was far from “shot” when he was traded……..as I recall, Lenny Wilkins did not feel as if Dominque was the type of player he wanted in his system…….had nothing to do with his playing ability…….and as we know that turned out to be a huge mistake, as Danny Manning didn’t do anything with the hawks, and he bolted less than a yr later. Babcock also brought in Lon Kruger, who proclaimed that his hawks would make the playoffs with a money back guarantee…..needless to say, they did not make the playoffs, and Kruger was fired. If you look at the players that have been brought in by both GM’s, I would have to give Knight the edge in that department…..Babcock notables include Rumeal Robinson, Adam Keefe, Doug Edwards, Alan Henderson, Priest Lauderdale……need I continue? Both GM’s have had tumultuous tenures………there is no defending Woodson, even before this trade, he had enough talent to be better than 21-28 at this point.

    I hope cj is joking.

Well done BK. I’ve hated on you as much as the next guy but credit where it is due. This is a good pick up.

Is it too much to hope that in our 50th season since winning the title we could do it again? Great storyline but I guess we should keep our goals reasonable. 2nd round maybe?

Now if we could just clear up the ownership mess!

DON’T FORGET, I’m here in L.A. and it’s PAU GASOL’s first home game with the Lakers and the town is teeming. This may be a BAD place to test out a new addition to the Hawks, no matter how good. Of course that depends on how hard the Hawks slap at Kobe’s pinky. I mean, the ball… Go Hawks and Braves.

Dman is definitely spot on when calling out all of these monday quarterbacks. The fact is Billy Knight has done pretty good job and this trade just brings light to his ability to adjust and operate regardless the circumstances.

    go Hawks

    Go playoffs

    Go second round

I wonder how many bandwagon riders will hate on BK for this deal considering LA’s kicking their behinds tonight, but that’s no big surprise considering the Lakers are on an entirely different level.

Let’s just work on some things the rest of the game and get ready for Sacramento.
