You must be “Joshing”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Sure, Joe Johnson’s team-leading 29 points in nearly 45 minutes of play was crucial in the Hawks’ defeat of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night. There’s no player on the squad that Atlanta rallies around more than their All-Star guard.
But check the stat sheet, and notice what swingman Josh Childress accomplished in his 25 minutes coming off the bench. Twelve points on 4-for-4 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 free throws. Five rebounds. Three assists.
All of that contributed mightily to Atlanta’s nine-point margin of victory. Besides Childress, the only other points coming from reserves against Cleveland were the three scored by Acie Law.
So, Hawks fans, are you secure in knowing you’ve got a solid sixth man, or what? Do you like the role Childress is playing? Or, for the Hawks to stay at or above .500, does he need to do more?
Don’t just savor the victory. Sound off

Yes. Through all the ups and downs this young team has been through I hope the upper management keeps them together. The only way the Hawks make it in today’s league is if they maintain continuity. RESIGN JOSH CHILDRESS AND JOSH SMITH!!!

Of course, what kind of question is that? we need Chills for the long term, I hope we can sign him for around 6-8 mill a year for about 5 more years. But not likely, he’ll want around 9 to 10 like Josh smith.

You have GOT to be kidding me with this question. The only question that needs to be asked is if the Hawks plan on keeping both Joshes around after they become unrestricted free agents, and the answer to that is YES! Childress will always be a legitimate sixth man of the year candidate. He fits perfectly into what the Hawks are doing.
What gets me is that everyone feels this team is missing out on a Tim Duncan type by not making a trade. This team will need to pick up a veteran big man to come off the bench to help out Horford.

Why can’t the Hawks go on a run like Portland, who is even younger than us? Coaching. Plain and simple. Let’s match the strategy to the talent and see what happens, okay? This team doesn’t hold a candle to the Hill/Johnson/Roundfield/Drew/ Rollins team and the difference? Hubie Brown and a gritty, extremely fast, charismatic point guard.

If Joe J. could get about five minutes rest in the middle of second period, and five more at the end of the third/beginning of the forth, he would be a lot fresher. When he’s fresher the team runs. It would also give Salim a chance to play on a regular basis instead of wasting that talent. We’re having a good year, but we would’ve had at least 3/4 more wins if it hadn’t been for fouth period fatique.

They need to bring one or two proven VETERANS in here to help out. Go after P.J. Brown, i know he probably wouldn’t sign here….but signing Lorenzon Wright?? What has he done in this league??? NOTHING!!!!! This team is good, not great. And luckily they play in the EAST!

Um… I think the question was do u like the contribution that we r getting from J Chill… not should we resign him. I like Childress and the energy he brings to the court every night and I definitely like what he is doing out there. I am satisfied with what he does for the team, but also feel confident that he could contribute if he was given the chance to start. I’m not saying that he should necessarily because I think our starting lineup is pretty solid. I’m just saying he could

Of course the Hawks need to keep like Childress around. You would think since billy knight drafted him and smoove signing them to long term deals would have been no brainers this past offseason. He is a great contributor to this team even when he doesn’t score, best on the ball defender we have in my opinion. His character is immense and he has never done anything to embarass the organization off the floor. His contract extension will be one summer too late, as will be smooves. Hope he stays. And I agree with Ron James, either let Salim rest Joe in a couple of 5 minute stretches or what are you doing by keeping the guy around. Hopefully we will be back over 500 after friday night.

Of course we need J. Chill. He adds to the core of the team (which is designed to be multifaceted). J. Chill can play anywhere from pg to sf, bring some scoring and some rebounding off the bench, and is very lengthy.
Although Billy Knight has had the choice of some premier draft picks and despite the the criticisms, the hawks have drafted well over the past 4 years. 9 of the Hawks players are playing on Rookie contracts.
Though people complain about passing on some future superstars, other team roles have been solidified with the draft. Most teams are trading and spending big money to get better, the Hawks are developing.
Also, it may have worked out in our favor that we missed on a couple of guys, because you always hear how teams should build around a superstar. That can take just as long as going the route of the Hawks. For instance Dwight Howard in Orlando (its coming together), Kevin Garnett in Minnesota (they tried but didn’t succeed), Allen Iverson in Philly (A.I. was the team most years).

They might have some more L’s if Chill wasn’t around keeping the Hawks in the game.

Stanford fan here - watched JChill at his first college game. Answer is: Get him out of Atlanta where can can grow into a starting position. Why wouldn’t a small forward shooting the kind of #s he does not be encouraged to take more shots? And it won’t happen in ATL.

Hey, y’all. Salim’s not playing because he is hurt. He cannot move laterally due to a pulled muscle.
Childress is definately part of the core of this team, is doing a great job, and hopefully will be with the Hawks along time.

J Chill is definitely putting in work this season. His effort is unquestioned now. I don’t know why everyone else can’t play with his sense of urgency. Some do on some nights and other nights they don’t. I think J-Chill has been very important to us this year, he’s like our Cliff Leviston, if you will, with more game. Keep up the good work Chill!
GO HAWKS!!!

I am very Happy with the Play of Childress. He is a smart solid 6th man. Not exactly what I was looking for with the 6th pick in the draft, but better than a reserve forward with the 5th pick.
Just imagine our team with Al Jefferson in 2004 / D. Williams or Chris Paul 2005 / Brandon Roy 2006.
We would be stacked and right there with Boston in the East.
All that said I am excited to wee what the Hawks do down the stretch.

At first, I didn’t like JChill - he of the ugly jump shot.
However, he has changed my opinion of him with his performance off the bench and clutch play.

I think Childress is an extremely important piece of this team. He is the perfect sixth man. He does a little of everything, does not demand the ball, and brings energy to the court. I think people that continually mention trading him need to watch some games instead of reading boxscores. I definately think he needs to be resigned.
