Dogs, Tech bowl possibilities
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A lot will be determined by this week’s games around the country but Georgia fans might be booking return trips to the Sugar Bowl. The AJC’s Carter Strickland speculates they may face Hawaii or Kansas.
Mike Knobler, meanwhile, says indications are that Georgia Tech may play in the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco. The Jackets could do even better if they can upset Georgia Saturday.
Which bowl games do you think the Bulldogs and Jackets will end up in? Which bowl are you hoping for? Which bowls would disappoint you? Would the Sugar Bowl be sweet for Georgia? How do Tech fans feel about a trip to San Fran?
Which teams would you like to play?

I think it is crap that Georgia ends up in a BCS when they could not even beat South Carolina. I think it is likely that Stafford and Moreno will end up more than tickle pile partners this Summer when they spend time together in the hot showers. Mark my words, Auburn will not only keep its coach, but we will be BCS bound next year. War Eagle!

Roswell Ed you have no class what so ever. You resort to childish behavior in every blog on the AJC. Sour grapes is all you are about. Yes Ga did lose to SC. The season is a long one. Most teams have their ups and downs. Georgia happens to be playing pretty well right now and hopefully they can continue against Tech. I know you have a pitiful life and take pleasure at disrespecting the Dawgs. It must be hell to be you. Does 45-20 ring a bell?

Better focus on Saban and Co. How does it feel to lose to the team that lost to S.Carolina?
Sugar Bowl sounds fine to me, regardless of the opponent.

Anything is possible at this point. GA needs to hope for a Kentucky win this weekend against TN. At this point of the season GA is the best team in the SEC and I think they could handle LSU if given a chance. If that scenario plays out GA definitely goes to the Sugar Bowl. Could two loss GA make to the BCS Title Game? Anything could happen the next two weeks during this wacky season. There is a good chance that Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arizona and maybe LSU will all lose games over the next two weeks leaving the door open for a two loss team. Unfortunately, I think Ohio State will find a way to sneak into the BCS Title Game. What a weak conference that has become.
Go Dawgs!

I hope that GA doesn’t end up playing some patsy like Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. I’d rather the dawgs play Kansas or Missouri, or even West VA, real teams. They would blow Hawaii off the field in the first half—it would be a boring game. Plus, Hawaii would send about 10 fans.

Honestly, I don’t care which bowl game we get sent to, as long as it’s being coached by an interim head coach.

I wouldn’t worry about playing Hawaii in the Sugar. Hawaii has to beat Boise State and Washington to go undefeated. I don’t see them doing that.

IF we exterminate the bees this weekend all is good regardless of the outcome of the KY/UT game.
Dawgstheman, I don’t think Hawaii will win out anyway so that point might be mute. However, after WVU couple of years back I wouldn’t discount any opponent that we may play if we make it there. Besides June Jones knows the ATL and will have his guys ready to play and make a statement. It is rare that the bowl games of that calibre are miss matched often.

Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl??? Surely the Sugar Bowl people are not that inept. We don’t want to see a Ga/Hawaii match. Ga gains NOTHING by beating Hawaii, while Hawaii would be sky-high and ultra motivated in order to prove themselves. No thanks. If I were Mark Richt, I would immediately get the word out that Ga is not interested in playing Hawaii under ANY circumstances. Let Hawaii go to the Fiesta bowl and play Oregon. Ga needs a top five opponent. OK would do nicely.

I’ll take the Sugar Bowl but it would be nice to play in a different one just for some variety. I’d love to play Ohio St.!!!! What a joke they are!!!! They successfully didn’t play one team in the top 20 and don’t have to play a championship game and they get a BCS bid and a possible NC berth! Ain’t the BCS great?!?!?! That reminds me of Notre Dame last year; they got destroyed the 2 games they played against ranked teams and then they get a BCS bowl bid and get destroyed by the 3rd ranked team they played!!! WHAT A JOKE!!!!!

Let’s beat Tech then worry about the bowl game. I hate all the speculating especially when HA has two games left against some tough opponents. If Boise beats them then forget anything for Hawaii. I am only worried about beating Tech and sending them to the nut bowl, beef stick bowl, or the cheese cracker bowl. That would be a good thing that we can control right now. If we win and UT loses, it will take less time for us to get up for the SECCG than it takes Tebow to punch it from 2 yards for the 35th time.

Assuming both UGA and Tenn win their respective games this weekend, and that Tenn somehow upsets LSU, I have no idea where any of those teams end up. Any thoughts? My guess would be TN would appear in the Sugar bowl and UGA would end up in the Chick-Fil-A again.

Dawg fans are correct about the Sugar bowl and Hawaii - but for the wrong reason.
The Dawgs want no part of the game because they have no defense for the run and shoot. You Dawgs better pray Boise can take care of this for you because Washington will not.
What a bunch of cowards! The Dawgs would not be motivated, the Dawgs have nothing to prove, the Dawgs would play as they did against WVU, and on and on. Very early to start the excuses for the Dawg Decimation or is it that this is not much of a football team over in Athens?
Typical Dawg comment “I don’t think Hawaii will win out, so that point might be mute”. UGA grad, that would be MOOT.

John, right now it is a moot (arugable/debatable/deprived of any significance) point. After Hawaii gets beat it will be a mute (muffled/reduced, or “eliminate the sound of”) point.
I don’t see how a team that plays ONE game against a ranked opponent (the ONLY opponent with a winning record) can make it to a BCS bowl. The collective record for Hawaii’s opponents is a sterling 37 and 75. I am not one to limit the BCS and small conferences but how do you reward that schedule with anything but a trip to Hawaii.

The Dawgs can make the Sugar bowl in two ways: 1) They beat LSU in the SEC championship(if Kentucky beats Tennessee) 2) Tennessee beats Kentucky and loses to LSU(who then goes on to the National
championship game leaving someone else in the SEC to go to the sugar bowl)

Since Tech is projected to go to the Emerald Bowl I checked out the Emerald Bowl’s official Website. It turns out that just two years ago Tech lost its “bowl game” at the Emerald Bowl. It turns out that Tech lost to the third best team in the Mountain West Conference. It turns out that Tech lost by 28 points to the third best team in the Mountain West Conference. It turns out that Tech lost by 28 points to the third best team in the Mountain West Conference whose quarterback was playing only his second game as a starter. I looked for attendance numbers on the Website but the Website failed to mention that fewer than 2,000 “fans” cared enough to go see the team play. Of course the team from two years ago had Calvin Johnson and the current team does not, so I expect performance and attendance will be off a little. Maybe being off probation this time will help Tech. Maybe not. Of course Tech will be without the services of alleged drug possessor Reuben Houston, WHO STARTED IN THE EMERALD BOWL in addition to being arrested for carrying a hundred pounds of pot. Surprisingly, only one of these two facts is listed on the alleged drug possessor’s bio on the Tech Website.

It is true that Hawaii has played a very weak schedule, you can blame that on 2 things #1. Herm Fraziar (UH Athletic Director) #2 That no one now wants to come at least 3,500 miles to play a “tight” game i.e. Teams beaten since June Jones=Michigan State, Arizona State, Perdue. and other solid teams. Games that were close=Oregon State, and 1 blowout USC the year they lost to Texas aka Bush Lineart. Teams simply do not want to play an extra game in Hawaii anymore, for the same fact UGA does not want to play Hawaii, nothing to lose and an unfamilar offense especially southern run-oriented offenses. Believe me we get plent of UGA games here, Ive watched 5, and yes we Knoshaun and Hawaii is licking their chops against your defensive scheme. Bosie is first, a team everyone in Hawaii highly respects, they never play well at the begining of the year i.e. UGA & Washington, but they always finish the year solid. Hopefully see you in the NO with some Aloha.

Rankings are popularity measures for the first few weeks, with the old schools with a rep receiving the votes. As examples - Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Alabama, etc., etc.
Most every year there are surprises, Boise State last year, that deserve the chance to prove themselves. Boise State did just that in their bowl game.
This MAY be the year for Kansas or Hawaii. The point is that beating a school with a long reputation for winning football, OSU or Mich, may seem like the best for UGA but the reality may very well be that one of the lesser known schools actually has the better team - this year. So do you just want a cupcake as an opponent or do you seek a challenge?
If the answer is cupcake then stop complaining about Hawaii’s record, after all they can only beat the teams on the schedule and the schedule, for the most part, is made long before the talent on the opponents is known.
By the way, has UGA traveled over 2,000 miles to weather 50-60 degrees colder than Athens for a road game? Or even 30-40 degrees colder? I think that would be NO! Hawaii travels the 2,000 miles for every road game and usually at least one or two of the games are played in 30-60 degree temperature changes.
Two of UGA’s opponents are currently ranked in the BCS top 25, hardly a roaring commendation as opposed to Hawaii’s one.

What’s this about some Dog not wanting to go to the Sugar Bowl? It’s a top bowl, for Pete’s sake! I saw UGA play Arkansas there, many, many years ago, in the Dooley years. Sadly, the Dawgs lost that one, but it’s still a good bowl. Beat Tech, go on to the Sugar Bowl, and who cares if the opponent is Hawaii or anybody else?

WarriorFan/Haka.. what up bra. Malo lava! Magaia kele le ka’alo o kama Poly. I like to see Hawai’i in the BCS, but that’s very slim due to the weak scheduling. Which of course, it’s not all Hawai’i’s fault, not very many top teams want to play the Warriors in the island. I’m not sure exactly why, probably the distance, money and certainly it’s not the food. We’ll see how it’ll play out in a couple of weeks.
Hawai’i will give Georgia a good game, if we play, but I like Georgia’s chance… sic’em!

Good Luck to the Dawgs this weekend against a worthy ACC opponent.
Do not take GT for granted…this game has upset written all over it.
Who saw Bama laying the egg last weekend? Holy cow, what an embarrassment to the SEC….but Saban will get them there….LSU lost to UAB Sabans first year.
Go Auburn, Go Dawgs, Go Cats.
Vols lost my respect at SEC championship game a few years back. Vols played OK..showed heart with a good effort to get back in the game…but the fans around us did not “bring it” or help their team out…they just griped about Fulmer, how things should be, acting like they should have won just by showing up and that this coaching staff has not upheld the excellence of TN football….HELLO - you were in the SEC championship game!!!! Acting as if Bama and Vols are the only two teams in the SEC with tradition…what a bunch of eggheads that do not realize that Auburn, Georgia and LSU have incredible traditions and that Florida has done an excellent job of breaking through to the upper crust in the last 20 years or so. Go KY Cats - beat down the Vols and let’s hope they suffer for a while.
