Rocktober: Braves fans backing NLers?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
OK, Braves fans, so the Tomahawks aren’t in the World Series. But the Rockies are. Are you backing them out of National League loyalty? Or is there such a thing as league loyalty in MLB anymore? Who ARE you rooting for? Tell us.

I’m a native Atlantan living in Denver, as soon as the Braves were knocked out of the playoff race I started pulling for the Rockies.
They’re a true underdog story and remind me alot of the 91 Braves. They’ve gone worst to first, and have alot of young players surrounded by some solid veterans.
I for one hope they can sweep whatever team the AL offers up this year. I hate the AL, and their better than thou attitude toward the NL.

I root for the Braves. I couldn’t care less who wins the World Series. If the Braves aren’t in it, it doesn’t matter to me. I live in New York. Unfortunately, most people here root for the Mets or the Yankees and are willing to when and if one of those 2 teams are eliminated from the playoffs or race. If you root for more than one team, you’re really not a fan. You’re a frontrunner.

I am a Atlanta man living in Colorado Springs and I will tell you that there is really no buzz around here about the Rockies. The only time you here about it is on the news. Maybe its because there in shock and maybe its because the Rockies do not have a big following in the U.S or the area. I know I have not watched a playoff game yet and like most people around here we would rather watch football this year.

I always pull for the NL, especially since the media gives them no chance against the so-called powerful AL teams. I much prefer real baseball without that XXXX DH, instead of arena baseball that is played in the AL. When the AL manager gets to Denver, he will actually have to use some of his managerial skills.

A Cleveland vs Colorado World Series would be just great, i wouldn’t care who won. i guess b/c Cleveland hasn’t won since 1948 i might lean toward them, but i really don’t care in the end. As long as the Red Sox don’t win; they have become the Yankees by throwing money at all their problems and all their bandwagon fans.

I’d be happy with any of the teams winning, though the Sox and their Bronx like spending have started bother me. The only reason I’d like not to see the Indians win is so that that teamwrecker Kenny Lofton doesn’t get a ring.

Denver is a crime riddled filthy city, their beer sucks, the weather is awful, and the airport is in another county! However, their baseball team has won their last 20 out of 21. I’m still rooting for the AL!! I don’t care which one wins the ALCS.

TO BASEBALL IS BORING, GET OVER YOURSELF! WITH ALL THE CHANNELS WITH ALL OF THE CHANNELS AVAILABLE, YOU COULD FING SOMETHING TO WATCH IF YOU DO NOT LIKE BASEBALL. AS FAR AS THE ROCKIES ARE CONCERNED, HELL YES I AM PULLING FOR THEM. REMINDS ME SO MUCH OF 1991, WHEN WE WENT FROM WORST TO THE WORLD SERIES. AND TO SEE ALL OF THEIR FANS EXPERIENCING WHAT OUR FANS DID, I AM HAPPY FOR THEM. BUT NEXT YEAR, I HOPE IT IS MY BELOVED BRAVES WHO ARE DOING THE CELEBRATING

See, I told you there were a lot of us Atlantans out here in CO!
Hey bobolink, I don’t know what the heck your problem is, but you obviously know nothing about Denver…
Filthy? Crime-ridden? This is one of the safest, cleanest big cities in the country; maybe you have us confused with Philly.
Sure, Coors sucks, but Denver has the 2nd most microbreweries in the country after Portland, so most of the beer here is actually very good.
I see you’re falling prey to that old stereotype about the weather in Denver as well. Yes, I know Sunday was miserable; however, what about the 300 days of sunshine we get a year? The World Series is just as likely to be played in 60 degree weather as it is to be played in a snowstorm. Believe me, people, when I tell you that it really doesn’t snow here that much; it’s actually sunny and in the 40’s and 50’s almost all winter.

Dunwoody in Denver is right. Obvoiuslly Bobolink has never left the South. I’m a diehard Braves fan from long before the 90’s… but you gotta root for the Rockies because they are doing it with a small payroll, rookies, good defense, timely hitting and pitching.

Rockies all the way!
It has nothing to do with NL loyalty, it has to do with rooting for a new team to win in the post season. It has to do with the Rockies very classy decision to vote a full playoff share to the widow of their minor league coach (hit by line-drive). It has to do with their low-profile, low payroll approach, team oriented. It has to do with their winning streak, outta nowhere to take it, like sliding into home, in the bottom of the ninth. What baseball fan doesn’t want a team like that to win it all?

Hey Dunwoody in Denver… lets let boblink spew all he wants about how bad Denver is… all the better to keep people like him from moving here. Denver has horrible weather, and the people are all fat… and you can’t get a job… so go someplace else, like Atlanta.. and leave us alone.

Watching the Rockies this post-season has been a LOT of FUN. Me, I’m a longtime diehard Braves fan for sure. I’m also a BASEBALL fan and usually have 3-5 teams I follow closely every year. The main criteria for being on that list is that it’s a team that’s been down and out but is showing signs of turning… or TRYING to turn… things around. Each year I look at the Rockies as candidates. I remember looking back in mid-September to see if they had a chance, and they were about 4 games behind the Braves (Wild Card). I kept looking as they kept winning, on a day by day basis.
Now, I’m almost having as much fun as I did with the Braves in ‘91.
ROCK ON, Rockies!

I’m pulling for the Rockies for the reason below:
The Colorado Rockies are giving baseball fans another reason to cheer for them this postseason. The widow of Rockies minor league coach Mike Coolbaugh, who died after getting hit by a line drive this season, will be granted a full share of the team’s playoff winnings after a team vote.
Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said the gesture spoke volumes about the quality of the character in their locker room.

Sure, I can pull for the Rockies. They seem to be the feel good story of the playoffs. But don’t count on me to watch every (or even any) of the games. I’m still bummed we didn’t make the playoffs when things looked so promising in April. Hampton’s injury was the biggest dissappointment. If he stays healthy and pitches like a $16 million a year pitcher, we’re there. We didn’t need Glavine. Loosen up the purse Liberty so JS and Frank can get us some reliable starters and Bobby will have us back next year. Go Braves!

As an eternal Yankee-hater, the Red Sox are my preferred team to stick it to the New Yorkers. (Other than the Braves, but that goes without saying.)
But all this World Series stuff is secondary to hot-stove league rumors and hopefully action that concerns the Braves. I’m eager for DOB to get an interview with Frank Wren and also eventually with JS who may be a little more forth-coming with insightful thoughts about the budget present and future of the club. (If indeed, a budget exists at all.)
I’m a bigtime Andruw fan, my grandson has an AJ-signed game bat, ball, etc. Curiously, it only took me a week to get over his exit. With the prospect of Jordan Schafer (wow, another JS) in 2009, I would be content with signing Langerhans or some other strong defensive CF to a 1+1 option contract and batting them 8th. Most NL clubs have one weak bat (but only the Braves batted him cleanup most of last season.)
As for priorities, I’d go for (1) Glavine signed first to a 1+1 option, (2) trade for seriously good young starter like Haren if possible or a Snell/Gorzellany type. (3) I think it’s important to get get Tex signed up for the duration. This guy, not McCann is the future face of the Braves and worth market value for any length he asks for. I think Chipper could have 4-5 highly productive 125-game seasons left in that body and as switch-hitters, he and Tex are flat-out the scariest duo in the NL. And with Escobar and Edgar batting 1-2, and Mac, Frency, and Johnson 5-6-7 what more could you ask?
Fifth, I’d move Kelly back to LF and put Yuny at second full-time until Renteria’s contract is ended. As much as I like Diaz, his value will probably never be higher and could/would be a serious chip toward getting that good young starter. I know I’m putting some faith (perhaps blind fairth) in Aybar coming back to do his good back-up work. I have little or no faith in Hampton contributing in his last year but hope springs eternal.
Life is good, as my well-paid doctor likes to say.
2008 and beyond at the Ted looks good to me.

I’m rooting for the Rockies because they have made it to where with ball players instead of a bunch of overpaid prima donnas and because Todd Helton deserves a ring. I never thought a team would go through another playoff series like that again. But wow here we go!!! Maybe if the Rockies lose in the World Series there will be 750K people in the streets of Denver to celebrate like in ATL in 91. If they win who knows what it will be like in Denver. They may have to close down the city.

Stew, yeah, sure the Rockies have no pitching; that’s why they lead the NL in team ERA after the all-star break. That’s why their bullpen had the lowest ERA in the NL for the entire season…
Most teams would kill to have two 21-23 year old starting pitchers who throw 100 mph like Ubaldo Jimenez and Franklin Morales, as well as a 25 year old closer who does the same in Manny Corpas…
