Falcons have no plans to trade Vick
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Falcons have said emphatically that they are not trading quarterback Michael Vick and a draft pick to the Oakland Raiders for Randy Moss, Jerry Porter and the first pick in the April draft. If you were the Falcons’ GM for a day, would you even consider trading Vick to the Raiders — or anyone else?

yes this would be a great trade. we can line up 6 receivers wide every time. no defense would be able to stop us!

Nope! To trade Vick right now would be just stupid. First of all, he costs too much for someone to get. He’s too much of a gamble for another team.
And the Raiders have nothing to give me in return for Vick. Plus, they wanted a first round draft pick too.
Also, Vick is too much of a draw for the Falcons. Without Vick, the Falcons wouldn’t sell out every home game. I will watch every game because I have Sunday Ticket, but many will just not pay to watch a Vick-less Falcons play, unless you bring in a player that will draw just as much or more fans than Vick. (Good luck finding someone.)
Plus, Petrino’s philosophy is a wide-open offensive scheme, which is exactly what I would institute if I coached Mike Vick. If Vick grows up and stop making stupid decisions off the field, he will be able to show people what he can do as soon as next season.
No, if I was GM, I would insist on fining and punishing Vick for every bad off-field decision, as well as every fumble and interception that wasn’t caused by the receivers.

We would be trading one so-called “bad character guy” for two definite “bad character guys.” Yeah, that trade makes a whole lot of sense. Plus, Moss and Porter have been horrible the past two seasons.

A thug is a thug is a thug. Or, in this case, it’s Mike Vick. Get rid of the punk. Can’t ownership see that he’s not wanted anymore and that he’s not the answer to a winning football team? Send him to Oakland, draft Calvin Johnson and Sidney Rice, beef up the O-Line through trades and we’ll win. Keep that thug Vick and, well, you see what happens.

Vick rushed for 1000 yards and through 20 T.D.Great Payton’s going to the Super Bowl and he didn’t rush for 1000 yards. He has a running back and is a quater back. You shouldn’t brag that your Q.B. rushed for 1000 yards he shouldn’t haft to.The man got the 1000 yards running for his life because the Falcon’s don’t have a line.Lets get him some protection and maybe his true Q.B. skills will be shown.

Wow that is a tough one. But can you imagine having Randy Moss as one wideout and Calvin Johnson on the other side. Schaub would seem like the QB we should of be starting the whole time. But I feel Vick’s upside is still to much to trade away.

This would be a great trade for the Falcons and a terrible trade for the Raiders. It would get Schaub in and allow the Falcons to draft either CJ, Joe Thomas, or AP. They could then try and dump off Moss or Porter on draft day to acquire additional picks or a “need” player at another position. As long as Vick is the QB, the Falcons will not win the Super Bowl. I think he will get them to the playoffs every other year or so but not get a ring.

Well I look at it this way, get rid of Michael Vick so that he can win a SuperBowl like Brett Favre, Lovie Smith and all the others that the Falcons have let pass this way. Lord knows we may never see another SuperBowl with the personnel we have. Arthur Blank has done everything he could to make the Falcons a Super Bowl contender, but just as soon as you get rid of Michael he will go to the Super Bowl and we will be left wondering.

Dear Falcons:
Regarding the proposed Michael Vick trade, no, but thank you.
We prefer to build our Oakland Raiders franchise with players of a little higher caliber, greater leadership skills and team focus such as Randy Moss and Warren Sapp.
You folks made your bed by drafting that imbecile, so you can keep him.
So long, suckers!
Just drafting better players than the Falcons, Baby,

THE FALCONS SHOULD KEEP VICK AND CONTINUE TO BE A .500 TEAM ON AVG WITH AN OCCASIONAL 10 WIN SEASON WITH A FIRST ROUND LOSS. IT’S NO BIG DEAL TO WIN OR BE A CONTENDER. THAT’S OVERRATED. IT’S ALWAYS BETTER JUST TO BE ABOUT AVERAGE AND NEVER REALLY WORRY ABOUT BEING THE BEST OR WORSE.

I say this is a trade I would make, I would use the #1 on Calvin Johnson or draft LeMarcus Russell with the number #1 pick, I then would package Randy Moss along with Roddy White to Miami or somewhere for an additionl pick and re-build the offense line.
I like Mike Vick, but this could be one of those trades that could put the Falcons over the top.
My 2 cents.

If you like for your team to be able to watch the post season on TV then keeping Vick is the right thing to do. How many more seasons and coaches will we have to suffer through before we realize that Vick will not ever be a good NFL QB?
By the way, the definition of a good NFL QB includes the ability to be a leader.

IF we traded Vick to the Raiders it wouldn’t be for Moss Or Porter but for their cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha and DE Derrick Burgess. We give them VICK our Pick and then take their number one pick.
Here is what the Reverend would do then. Since THE ATL is the promised Land of us African-Americans we draft Demarcus Russell. Then we let him sit behind Schaub at least a year. Who knows…we could end up with the same siutation as the Chargers. Then is Schaub is good we keep him then trade Russell for then 2 first rounders…
This is VICK’s last year with the Falcons if he doesn’t improve with his passing. Then you have Russell if he turns out to the be the starter and he is black too to help the fan base and for no riots…

Media owes Vick a apology. They convicted him before findiing out the truth.
Vick played well Dan Reeves was the coach. Then we had moronic Mora and his West Coast Rumba. A good coach takes advantage of the talent in a team and bad coach fiddles away trying to install a system he is used to.
Everything aside, Vick is good quarterback and will do well with Petrino.
Hope Vick makes everyone eat crow!

All I know for sure is that pre-Micheal Vick, I could wait until 12:55 on game day and purchase Falcons tickets at the dome box office (pretty good seats even)and since his arrival I have been on the waiting list for season tickets for four years now. …… I wonder if that’s because everyone wants to see Arthur Blanks prancing on the side lines or if they are really hoping that the great unproven Matt Schaub will actually get a chance to show that he can play against someone other than the Patriots (had 2 years to prepare for that game) ..ha! ha!

I would get rid of him in a new york second. Besides us getting Moss, and Porter, THe #1 pick can be used to get traded for extra picks. Were in SALARY CAP HELL because of Mike Vick and if he left we would have money to get some players. Arthur Blank has been given a chance to correct a mistake of giving Mike Vick that huge contract, if he doesn’t take it. Just add it on the lists of his mistakes and he should sell the team.

If we traded Vick we would take a HUGE cap hit and would REALLY be in cap hell.
We would have to cut more players to clear out more cap space due to the cap hit we would take from trading Vick.
The bright side is that trading Vick would get us a top 5 pick for the next few years because we won’t be able to sign any quality players.

I really don’t like how Arthur Blank has come out and said “Vick will not be traded. He is the starter.”
Great. You’ve basically reinforced all the “untouchable” behavior Vick has developed by saying “there’s no way we’re trading Vick.”
I’m not saying you should trade Vick. I’m saying you should NOT tell him there is no way he’s getting traded.
Personally I want Vick to work hard and be great. I don’t want him thinking that he gets a pass no matter what he does. Like give the middle finger to the fans… in the Dome… after a game…

Vick is not a thinker, that is for sure. But can he be a QB? So far he has shown flashes of extraordinary athleticism but very little in the way of QB ability in terms of leadership, running plays, calling audibles, did I mention leadership? A QB doesn’t talk personal goals (the 1k rushing “goal” of Vick’s should taste like ashes in his mouth) but team goals. I give Vick one more season with the Falcons at most before a major QB controversy ensues. Vick should be hitting the play books now so he can live up to expectations. He has the ability. But does he have the discipline? This next season will be telling.

If the Falcons were to swap Mike Vick and part of the return was the #1 pick in April’s draft, then what earthly reason would the Falcons need Randy Moss or Jerry Porter for? Because if the Falcons get the #1 pick, then the only obvious choice would be to select Calvin Johnson, a once in a generation player who could directly improve the passing game of the Falcons, not to mention to improve the overall character of the team. Nothing Vick has done is as bad as Randy Moss, who has been in and out of trouble off the field, AND quits on his team and isn’t even sorry about it. Porter just plain quit on his team. Now granted, it was the sorriest team in the NFL, but still, real competitors play hard no matter the record or the score. So trading Vick (a part time knucklehead, part time gamebreaker, part time enigma) for two full time knuckleheads makes no sense. If the Falcons could get only draft picks in return, or maybe expiring contracts that they could release, then I’d say pull the trigger, get a GREAT player in CJ to team with Matt Schaub, Dunn, Norwood and Co. Add all that with Petrino’s playcalling and I say we’d have a winner on our hands.

As owner of the Atlanta Falcons I have great appreciation for the Atlanta Organization and all that it has to offer. Michael Vick is the answer and we are sticking with him at quarterback. Randy Moss and J. Porter are two extremely gifted recievers and any team would be surpassed to have them. As for Michael Vick growing is a process I understand this is his 7th season at the position, but with great support from the Falcons fans Im sure we will get over the slup. The rumors that Moss and Porter to the Organization are totally false, but we were in talks with them and we as an organization thought it was a tempting offer but salary is a object and Vick as a prized piece of the Atlanta Falcons. Thank You for the support and God Bless You

Any real football fans out there or any persons with true knowledge of the game would know that Mike Vick has performed greatly considering the fact that he has been performing at a disadvantage, simply due to the fact that he has no offensive line. Thank goodness he can run!!!(that’s what that line was designed for by the way), you all think Mike struggled, you just plant Matt Schaub behind that line and watch the sack numbers for the opposing team soar.

I like Vick but no QB is worth the money he is getting(P Manning maybe). Besides, Vick is putting up the numbers of a mid-level QB but is paid like the best. By investing so much in our QB, it takes away from needs in other areas. I would much prefer to find an above average QB for say $3-5M/year and use the rest of the cap to build a strong core around him. That is how SB teams are formed. Look no further than the SB champion Ravens, or the Bucs. Even this year the Bears have a QB who would be a back-up on any other team besides the Raiders.
If the Raiders proposal was for real, it would enable us to rebuild our roster addressing Petrino’s needs. I am not a fan of Moss or Porter but one or both of those guys could be traded. If Calvin Johnson is half of what the experts think he will be, Ga Dome seats will be filled. Besides, winning will keep the Dome filled anyway. I can promise you that a few more seasons like the last and even the great Vick will be playing to a half-empty Dome.

Matt Schaub is a THUG! Atlanta Falcons backup quarterback Matt Schaub was arrested Saturday in Virginia and charged with assault and battery.
Charlottesville police Col. T.J. Longo, reading from a statement, said a 19-year-old man claimed Schaub and two other men fought with him outside a restaurant around 1 a.m. Schaub was released on his recognizance after appearing before a magistrate judge.
The Falcons are off Sunday and return to action Nov. 14 against Tampa Bay.
Schaub, drafted in the third round out of Virginia seven months ago, was the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year in 2002. He beat out Ty Detmer in preseason to claim the No. 2 quarterback spot behind Michael Vick.
Neither Falcons general manager Rich McKay nor head coach Jim Mora immediately returned telephone calls.
Reggie Roberts, the team’s vice president of football communications, said McKay, Mora and owner Arthur Blank were aware of Schaub’s arrest.

lets just see how vick does for the new coach-give him a couple of years and then we will know if he should go; fans were calling for chandlers job after a superb year and the super bowl- it has taken manning 9 yrs to get to the big dance and I’m sure Indy fans weren’t trying to chase him out of town like we are trying to do for Vick. It’s not like we have a “dynasty” franchise like other teams; we still don’t have back to back winning seasons. Lets hope Petrino will do what Peyton has done in the big easy. Lets support our team.

It’s time to cut bait and try another approach. If Vick’s abilities came close to equaling his ego, he’d be the greatest of all time. It’s time to come out and say what every analyst already knows. Mike Vick is just too dumb to be an NFL quarterback. He can’t read defenses. He can’t check off at the line, and he sure as heck can’t remember to tuck the daggone football when he runs. The guy had his chance. I can’t get behind a guy that flicks off the HOMETOWN FANS when he leaves the field. I can’t let my kids watch that and act like him. Let him go play with his cousin Aaron Brooks and waste away in the cess pool that is Oakland.

Acknowledging that all of MV’s off-the-field misbehavior is embarassing to himself, the team, the fans, the city, the league, his family and his mailman, that should not have any bearing on whether he should be traded. It should be solely a business decision based on his best value to the team in getting to the Super Bowl.
After 6 years, I think we’ve seen MV’s best, and while it is absolutely spectacular at times, it is typically mediocre the rest of the time. Too many mistakes, fumbles, bad decisions, lack of leadership.
Here’s the problem, and I don’t pretend to know either his contract details, or even the exact NFL contract/salary cap rules. But I understand if we either cut or trade him now, the Falcons incur the remainder of his unpaid bonus money ($22 million) as a cap hit for next season - we clearly can’t work that out. If they wait until May, the ‘07 cap hit is $7 million with the other $15 million hitting the cap in ‘08. Also, not a workable situation.
The question is: if a trade was worked out, would the Raiders also incur the bonus money responsibility as well as the remaining non-guaranteed salary? If so, then a trade is a distinct possibility.
Now, on to the trade rumors…IF Al Davis would get Vick, he certainly would NOT get rid of Randy Moss!! He has always loved the long ball passing game, and this combo would indeed be exciting to watch. I would rather take other cheaper players to fill Falcon needs + their first round draft pick.
MV will NEVER be consistent enough to lead this team to a Super Bowl.
Here’s my final thought: for all those who bring up the Favre trade/Super Bowl/ what a mistake talk…trading Vick to Oakland would be very safe for Arthur Blank. The Raiders are so bad, MV will not possibly lead them to a Super Bowl, or even the playoffs for that matter in the next 2 to 3 years, so the “I told you so’s” won’t be heard here.

Un-friggin-believable!!!
If ANY of you have been waiting the opportunity to purchase Falcon season tickets, I have GREAT NEWS for you. I will now NOT BE RENEWING thanks to the ignorance shown by Blank, McKay, and the rest of the Falcon’s brass.
Opportunity just knocked (in this deal) and the Falcons literally spit in it’s face.
Michael Vick and his 48% completion percentage, his poor decision-making skills, his overthrows, and his weed habit is just one problem. The Falcons becoming DEDICATED to it is the REAL TRAGEDY. I will NEVER go to the Dome again for the NFL so long as current management is in place.

Who cares if Vick runs for 1000 yards in a season, trade him away now! For Randy Moss and the chance of drafting the best player in college football in Calvin Johnson… That is too good of an opportunity to pass up. There would no longer be a WR problem for the Falcons, and with the running backs we have now with Petrino’s power running offense, the Falcons would have a perfectly balanced attack with Shaub under center.

I love the way people blame the salary cap predicament on Vick. He didn’t offer himself the contract…management did!!
I am a Falcon fan and a Vick fan. Trading him now would be one of the dumbest decisions made. You don’t trade a QB before he’s had a chance to mesh with the incoming coach!!
No real Falcon fan cannot say that Mike HAS to get better for the Falcons to reach the upper echelon of NFL teams. That being said, the OL and DBs need to be upgraded significantly in order to reach that goal. Notice that I didn’t include the receivers b/c I think that White and Jenkins can become good receivers and Alge is already a Pro Bowl-caliber tight end.
The Falcons absolutely have to make the playoffs next year, if not, wholesale changes (including the possibility of trading Vick) will have to be made!!

MV to the Radiers for their 1st and 2nd round choices this year and 2nd round next while keeping our 1st round this year. Draft CJ and linemen with the next choices. If trade fails move MV to wide receiver.

Micheal Vick is our quarterback. And anyone who doesn’t like can go cheer on the team that they like and leave Falcon fan business to REAL Falcon fans. Also anyone who doesn’t want to renew their season tickets, there are plenty of people who will take your place because there are over 25000 waiting to get a chanch to see Mike Vick and our Atlanta Falcons. So all you haters can stay home and watch our team win it all.

Vick is just two valuable to us and Atlanta to trade him sounded nice but the raiders shouldnt get either 1st round pick. And please Shaub is not our future and really lets be honest the only reason he is 2 on the dept chart is that Shockley was a rookie. if you can keep the draft picks and start shockley with moss and Calvin then yes do it .. Im a Falcon for Life

If we get rid of Vick, that will solve all our problems….. Yea Right. All you Vick haters need to shut the he** up. You remenber the Carolina game, does Vick play defense. Deangelo Williams ran all through our defense with the same play. (Trade Keith Brooking!!! Oh I forgot, he’s white.) And the Philly game. Schaub played the entire second half against the Philly 3rd string and he looked like crap. Yea, that is a great idea…… lets trade Vick and start a QB that threw an INT against a 3rd string defense. Remember Doug Johnson?

Put it this way Vick was innocent on this one but was judged before the results came back. But this is common with Black qb and Vick should no he has to watch his every move. First of all what blank needs to do is get a r moss or a T.O to catch the dam ball . Then get an O line to protect Vick. Most are right he will never win a Super Bowl with what he has to work with. But give him the same tools as those White qb’s such as the patriots and colts and he would win just as many super bowls. The only problem is when Vick came in he was heraled as Super man, But I have never seen one episode were superman was black.

Blank gave the coach killer all the money, it is so stupid, GET A DEFENSE AND A HALF WAY INTELLIGENT QB YOU DRAFT IN THE 6TH ROUND by the way, Tom Brady was drafted in the 6th round and he’s worth 20 Mike Vicks’. BUILD A DEFENSE AND QUIT BUSTING THE SALARY CAP ON SNOOP DOGG

I would start a fund drive for a first class ticket to anywhere for anything in return. I am fine with either Schaub or Shock, but Vick’s contract for the next 7 years is astounding for a man who has yet to deliver. I am not convinced that the coaches were the sole problem with this team the past two years and if someone is willing to give us quality for vick then I’d take it. Oh, yeah, and I have given plenty of my money to this team for many years now. I’d give Vick another chance next year with a new system, but if there’s no progess next year I think many of us would look back at this lost opportunity in regret.

The big mistake was offering that big deal$$$ to Vick. That create a big ego person. Vick should be more than grateful to Mr Blank not just for the long term deal$$$ but more for the lot of trust that he put on him. I’ll said if the Falcons doesn’t improve next season lets give S-C-H-A-U-B or Shockley a shot. I know we saw Shaub a few games but that is not fair. We have seen MV for almost 6 years. Here are some of MS remarks:* In 2005, Matt was named the Most Valuable Player in the American Bowl preseason game in Tokyo, Japan. In front of 45,203 fans at the Tokyo Dome, Matt completed 11 of 13 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-21 comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts. During the regular season he played in 5 games, starting one. His lone start came against the New England Patriots in week 5; Matt threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns in the 31-28 loss. Schaub is currently being mentioned as a possible player on the market that many think is worth a first round pick*

That’s exactly my point, they have a “team” and it cost a whole lot less to put it together. Tom Brady went to patriots management to allow the pats to get quality players and adjust his pay…you think Vick would do that, first of all, He’d never think of it, and secondly, He’s probably too selfish. I don’t care if the Whole world calls me a “hater”, I just want him gone.

the falcons o line had the #1 rushing attack two years in a row, and it would be excellent without Vicks’ running numbers, right near the top as a matter of fact. Vick doesn’t stay in the pocket, how can you block for him? Has anyone seen Schaub play and get killed in the pocket? No, they know where he is. Vick is the problem but you can’t tell the people who vote for Cynthia McKinney or jump for joy when OJ is found innocent, stupid is as stupid does, and there you have the Mike Vick fan base. If I was Cynthia McKinney, I’d run again too with these morons goin’ to the polls.

for the record people. True Vick has been in the league 6yrs. But he only started 4yrs. and He took us to the nfc championship game twice.Vick is the man. Don’t hate because he can do what you can’t. Look at how long it took steve young to get a ring and if you know football you know everything starts with a good o-line or d-line emmitt smith and troy akiman proved that theory. we have been facing haters since the beginning of time. Therefore we always keep on our hater cap. Vick the QB you love to hate. peace!

I am very glad that vick wasnt traded because of, first and foremost, he is the falcons BEST qb and i can’t see what it would be like without him. That’s like watching the Bulls without michael jordan. I mean comon. But second of all, the cap hit would of been horrendous. I really don’t need to explain that because you should all know. But anyway, I say we trade Matt Schaub for a solic 1st round pick and/or Randy Moss and a 2nd/3rd round pick. But who knows? I think that Rich McKay and Arthur Blank will do a fantasticjob with the Free Agency and trading and the draft and all.

The Falcons new coach will get the best out of Michael Vick and he will play great in 2007. Especially since our Red Zone offense will be much improved with play calling.. The Falcons need to consider going after Asante Samuels if the New England Patriots don’t pay/sign him. He is one of the top two CB’s in the league (D. Hall ain’t the other). We also need a good O LINE to protect Vick. Lets stop jumping on and off the band wagon. Vick’s only 26, and Matt Shaub is not better than Michael Vick…. don’t fool yourself.

What is the problem with the falcons: MV/O-line/receivers/Defence/Secondary? THIS IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE PAYROLL IN THE NFL It’s almost impossible to believe that this team have weakness on all of the above areas. They are suppose to be Professionals. This is the 3rd coach since DReeves. If they get paid all this money that means that they were choosen for his abilities. I believe is time for them to start to show something to the “people” who put then on a “professional” team.

I think many vick huggers have WORSHIPITIS, white people can’t understand it, because as a majority we don’t feel the need to worship anybody, but vick huggers and OJ apologists aren’t like the majority. It is a mindset many people can’t relate to and I think that is where the disconnect between the races is to a large degree. As a majority, you tend to look at things from a cold, analytical way, many are not doing that with Vick, they’re somehow emotionally tied to him, like an OJ apologist, not much in thee way of cold analytical thought when they jumped for joy at his innocence, many poeple can’t relate ot it.

Mike Vick will never win a Super Bowl for the Falcons, he does not have the ingredients to be a winner, especially “off the field” actions. He was paid too much money for what he is worth in playing professional football. Arthur Blank made bad judgment on his talent and accountability.

I think that is also the reason for the word “hate”, blacks love him and whites don’t really “love” any football player to be honest with you, they’re just players on a field and I think the poster hit the nail on the head, I can’t think of one football player I would try to defend if he acted a fool, not one.

Like so many have said before, a thug is a thug, why do you think he came out of college after only a year, he didn’t prove anything at VT. Vick is innocent of breaking a law, that’s it, get over it. A comment about trading Vick, it won’t happen because that’s not the way contracts are written. If the Falcons feel he’s not needed, they must cut him. If they try to trade him with his contract, no team will bite. He’s here or he’s cut, no other option.

The attempts at psycho analyzing black people is both amusing and sad. Mike Vick will never win a superbowl. No one player will. This is the NFL, not the NBA or Major League baseball. You must have a TEAM in order to be successful in the NFL. Relying on one player to win a championship is asinine, to say the least. Until the Falcons have three or four playmakers on both sides of the ball, they will continue to fall short of the Super Bowl trophy.
