How should Vick’s situation be handled?

How seriously do you think the Falcons’ organization will consider this latest off-field incident involving Michael Vick?

If you were Arthur Blank, how would you handle it? Would you wait until the police investigation is completed before talking to Vick?

And do you think Vick owes the public an explanation?

Have a capable QB that can play at this level w/ a decent back up.

Use his trade to improve draft positions, or

The Miami police have already announced they have better things to do. If it were one of us resisting disposing of a liquid bearing container - much less one with a “secret compartment”- while going through airport security, we’d be sitting in jail. However Vick is back home and the police say it will be months before the container is analyzed. Pays to be a celebrity. Blank - if he says anything at all - will take a cue from the cops and warn us to avoid a rush to justice until all the facts are in.

I always thought Vick was merely dumb as a post and could not help committing the frequent bad decisions he is famous for. Now I find he has also a drug-induced excuse. Blank should treat him the same way Beamer treated Marcus: can his butt. Vick is not and never will be smart enough to succeed as an NFL quarterback. Schaub is destined to be an NFL star, and it might as well be with the Falcons. Time to cut and run, as far as MV is concerned.

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the dumbest player in the history of the league (in addition to the worst passer). Someone should clue Vick in on a little secret that airport security has tightened up a little bit since 9/11. The only question is who Vick blames this on since he can’t take responsibility for his own failures. But don’t worry, Vick apologists, I’m sure Vick has the intelligence to learn Petrino’s new offense.

Well at least we discovered the reason that Vick can not read defenses, throw accurately, or lead a team. We thought that it was just because he sucked, but it turns out that the herpes and THC has just rendered him retarded. Well, I’m sure that they’ll be plenty of excuses on this board for his behavior.. after all he is our great chilly hope. “IF” this is true…..ALL sides of the Vick controversey should fold their cards. Arthur, McKay, deal us loyal fans a new hand at QB to go along with Petrino and company. The “Coach Killer”, if found guilty, will have proven He is too DUMB to ever master THE MOST IMPORTANT JOB ON THE TEAM and the entire team will be tripping over his hair before we EVER come close to a SUPERBOWL. ARTHUR, BE A MAN. DUMP VICK, START SCHAUB AND LET HIM HAVE JUST TWO YEARS TO PROVE HIS WORTH. OTHERWISE, WHY THE HE__DOUBLE HOCKY STICKS DID WE DRAFT HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE? SHOCKLEY, AS BACKUP, WILL PROVE TO BE MORE VALUABLE THAN VICK. HE IS AN INTELLIGENT MAN, WHO, LIKE SCHAUB, CAN FIND AND HIT THE 1st ROUND RECEIVERS WE HAVE. Just give Vick the “right plays” and the offense will be fine. He has a great arm and great speed but, he is a loser. Blank should fire him for shooting the fans birds. Blank should fire him for his ineffectiveness. The weed incident isnt that big a deal. He is only one of the most prominent role models, especially for black kids. Lets just teach more kids it ok to shoot birds and cuss at fans. Lets teach them that it is ok to smoke weed. And lets teach them that since you draw so many fans to football games it is ok to be ineffective as a QB.

Lets get a great defense like the bears have and see if we can keep Vick from losing the game. Maybe we can then play for the NFC title too.

The pattern of continuing actions by Mrs. VIck’s son, Michael, illustrate the decay he generates. Those close to him should create distance. Those who employ him are destined for viral infection as they resist excising the tumor that is Vick from an already unhealthy patient — the Atlanta Falcons Football team. There will no doubt be efforts to slow the criminal inveatigation to a snail’s pace — then to obscurity so that he will be able to work his “magic” once again on the gridiron. The lingering and disturbing question is: how long will those who are and represent this NFL team protect and shield this person Vick, growing in stature among local thugs and their ilk, before they themselves become tainted beyond repair, seeing the fanbase lose families andreplaced by Atlanta’s underbelly of thugs and other hip hop figures who covet the drug culture. ALl seats will be sold, but families going to a game will only do so under armed guard. While it is proper that the legal process proceed and the ‘innocent until proven guilty’ principle apply, why would anyone with no criminal intent create a secret compartment onto a water bottle. Touting the value of Michael Vick is like putting a mink coat on a pig….you still have a pig, no matter what. The notion that anyone from the owner, new coach, Vick’s mama, or a hired preacher will be able to reform this thug is laughable. Time will tell as to the intefrity of the owner and his actions…soon the Falcons will be referred to as the “East Coast Raiders” — look for Vick to push his bosses to sign Ricky WIlliams - another shining example of professional athletics for our upcoming youth. Yes, time will tell…

For all you black racist who continue to look up to this thug as superman and defend his actions, I guess the truth be told. He has showed us his true color.

Need more proof this kid is an idiot who needs to drop dope? First he dropped out of college early with a “C” avg, two Dan Reeves had to “simplfy” a playbook so vick could understand it (i.e use crayons?), three he never could learn a new offensive scheme in 3 years under Mora, four… oh the finger yea, five his brother who he defends in public is a stupid gangster who belongs in prison, six he gets popped in an airport with the posse in tow…..

Matt Schuab having to play BEHIND a less-talented QB like Vick is a textbook example of how pointless and misguided Affrimative Action is and how it holds ALL OF US back as a ‘Falcon Nation.’

Vick has already had more 2nd chances than MOST quarterbacks who come through the NFL.

Vick is a great athlete, NOT a great quarterback. After this incident, he was apparently not a great student, either.

I do not care what his race or skin color is. Apparently, anyone who speaks against Vick in this town is a “hater” and a “racist.” - What Ignorant Garbage!

I would trade Vick for Vince Young or Donovan McNabb or even talented offensive line help of ANY race yesterday.

Unfortunately, no sane team that cares about team leadership and drafting quality players who behave themselves would now want our #7.

Im a black falcon season ticket holder and this is a major disappointment and embarrasment to the black falcon fanbase around atlanta. This fool doesnt have the common sense to realize he is on thin ice in his position after having 2 losing seasons. I hate to make this a race issue but thats what it comes down to, the reason african americans support Vick is because of his color. But color can only take u so far with fans, I am ready to cut our losses with this guy. Its obvious money does not make you any smarter. His brother must be robbing off on him, or he was hiding his activities really well. I believe Arthur Blank needs to make a statement to him and organization that behavior like this wont be tolerated. I say trade him to cleveland, jacksonville, tampa bay. I dont think the raiders will give up the number one pick and Jemarcus Russell potential. Lets give Schaub a chance to start and see if he is any good. If not look to invest in a quarterback, the dude from Louisville who played under coach Petrino will be in the 2008 draft.

I got stopped at the airport also for my water bottle also my mom to and she didn’t want to throw it out. But we didn’t make the news. Of course it wasn’t a james bond water bottle. But really who cares what he does during his off season if it is not hurting anyone. And if it was illegal he never would have been allowed to fly. Are you with me? He is a dissenter. He’s not good for the team, no matter what his talents are. I don’t have a problem with him smoking weed, as long as he doesn’t do it on game day or practice day. But you have to know better than to get caught like that. If smoking weed makes you a “thug” or a “gangster”, then I guess I am a thug too. But it would be in his best interest to issue a public apology and/or explanation as soon as possible. At the end of the day, if a guy making a 9-figure salary gets suspended by the NFL for trying to sneak weed on a plane he’s going to look pretty stupid.

Unless the NFL comes down with a suspension (which I doubt, for a first-time offense and no positive drug test), I don’t think this should affect his status on the field. Maybe some of you Bible-thumpers think carrying a water bong is a capital offense — I don’t.

Facts: - Pot is illegal - Water bottles are not allowed on planes - Airport Security should investigate anyone acting suspicious when asked to do something - Water bottles with secret compartments going on planes could cause trouble - The Falcons have missed the playoffs 2 years in a row - Michael Vick is their quarterback - Winning will sell more tickets than any one player (ie: see Joe Johnson and the Hawks) - Michael Vick is one of the worst passing QBs in the league - Michael Vick has eternally answered the question - “did you see that pass? what was he smoking?” - Flipping off your fans is not the best PR move - Giving 100% EVERY game is pretty much expected when you make $130 million - Dan Reeves is somewhere laughing - At some point Vick will be tripping on his own hair as he made the promise not to cut it until he wins the SuperBowl - The new uniforms have brought nothing but bad luck. A buddy of mine went to school with Vick and even had him in one of his classes (political science??), and told us stories how everyone on campus knew vick was a party animal. He hung out with a group of guys that did not even go to school which was funny. It seems they were just buddies from NC hanging out there with him, chasing women and having fun. It was common to see him hanging out at parties and stuff. My friend said vick was cool, just a kid from NC who seemed like a nice guy, really laid back, but love the weed. Hey everyone knew he loved to party (get high) even the coaches and players so its no secret that the falcons would not know of his bad habits. As far as the consequences for his offense, I would expect a pretty hefty fine but no suspension. Based on the NFL’s reaction to previous first-time offenses like this, but not involving a failed drug test, the only reason I can see why they would suspend him is if they were trying to make a point. But I’m sure he’s going to be seeing a lot of whizz tests in the near future. Hopefully he learns from this — if you are worth more than the GDP of small African countries, you can afford to buy weed once you get off the plane.

It is highly amusing though, to see people calling Peyton Manning a class act — yeah, the same guy who dropped his pants in front of a female trainer and had to settle a sexual assault lawsuit. Yeah, what a classy guy.

It’s time Arthur Blank, Rich McKay and the rest of the Falcon’s organization realized that not only is Michael Vick not a good quarterback, he’s not even a good person. His repeated “minor” skermishes with the law are troublesome. When you add in the troubles his brother has dealt with, you can see this is a family issue; these are not good people. Vick certainly isn’t someone Mr. Blank should want as the name and face of his organization. If this were 10 years ago and the CEO for Home Depot had these same issues, would Mr. Blank have excused it? To compound things, Vick isn’t even the best QB on his team let alone tops in the league. Jim Mora Sr. had it right, Vick is a coach killer. He clearly isn’t going to lead your team to many victory; sub .500 over the last two season. He’s never going to lead your team back to a late 4th quarter comeback victory because he can’t complete enough consecutive passes. Turn him into “slash” like the Steelers tried to do with Kordell Stewart a number of years ago until his ego got in the way, and Vick will light the league on fire. Line him up at runningback, slot wide receiver, and under center sometimes and he’ll drive opposing defensive coordinators crazy. As an every down QB he’s sub par and as the face of this organization he’ll be a continual disappointment. Funny, I never Vick doing any national commercial endorsements. Why hasn’t Home Depot, Coca-Cola or Campbell Soup called? With Depot and Coke here in town you’d think they be splashing his face all over the media. Coke used him a few years ago for their PowerAde commercial but nothing since we’ve gotten to see what he’s really like…

Honestly do you really care about the weed? I don’t smoke the stuff but it really isn’t as bad as tobacco. This just makes him look worse in the public eye because it is illegal and he was clearly trying to hide it. Does anybody want to take bets that the airport video disappears or becomes to grainy to make out who the person is throwing away the bottle? What I am focusing on more is why when Schaub is in the game do all of our receivers seem to be wide open and he has plenty of time to throw the ball. When Vick is in the game the wr’s are not open and he seems to have no time to throw the ball. Just look at the Eagles game in a quarter and a half Schaub had better numbers than Vick playing with and against the exact same team. So nobody can say I am racist I don’t care if you play Schaub or Shockley just somebody else and I think Shockley will be better than Vick or Schaub. He certainly has a stronger arm than Schaub. I think we all saw this year what a record breaking running QB can do in this league for his team. lead them to 7-9 and lose to two of the worst teams in the NFL DET. and Cle. and not even beat a bunch of Eagle 2nd and 3rd teamers.

You didn’t mention barry sanders in there or the countless other so called super stars. I don’t condone weed but I also don’t condone people telling how to spend my private time, especially if it is not hurting anyone. As for the finger, get real look at espn classic some of the guys you mention have been guilty of a lot worse during the game you have to look at the bench during basketball the fans sometimes are a little to close.

Most of you people on this blog are in a sense racist, and many of you don’t even realize it. You wait in the woods for Vick to make a mistake so that you can pounce him. I’m in NO way taking justifying what he did (If the truth is what the report says!!!), I am merely saying that you give him a hard time anyway because of his race. Many of you call him a THUG because he is African American, and that isn’t right. Look up the definition of THUG, and you will find that it has no color. Many of you here, do things that can be viewed as stupid by others. Many of you cheat on your spouse, cheat on your taxes, lie to your bosses, cut corners in life, treat your family unkindly, etc. All signify a LACK of integrity to someone. You should really judge yourself and ensure that you have your life together, before judging others.

commonsense, EW, and others… Your comments are racist. They truly are. You should really search dee within.

For goodness sake, haven’t your parents been through enough embarassment? I’m a grown azz woman and the last thing I want to do is embarass my family. At some point, you have to realize that everything you do is under a microscope. That’s the path you chose by becoming a celebrity. Michael Vick is a terrible representative as “the” franchise player for the ATL Falcons. Hopefully they have a morals clause written into his million$ contract that can be used to dump his ghetto A$$. Great athlete and fun to watch, but NFL top caliber QB….NOT.

By the way, I am an African-American. Since there are a few bloggers that want to label everyone a racist that has negative comments to make about MV, I thought I would make that clear.

GO FALCONS…but without MV as QB!!!

Forget the weed. The bigger question is why was someone - anyone - allowed to fly after trying to get a liquid filled bottle with a secret compartment through airport security? My wife the average citizen made a sighing sound once and the TSA guy took 30 mins to look at every freaking thing in her pocket book. Vick the celebrity makes an issue out of a bottle full of liquid and is allowed to sail on through. So what if a TSA officer thought he recognized him? Lots of people probably look like Michael Vick. Lots of people probably look like you and me. Shouldn’t he have at least been subject to an additional search once the nature of the bottle was discovered? Shouldn’t he at least been found and questioned before being allowed to get on plane? Nothing personnel against Michael Vick or anyone else designated as a celebrity, but what makes you special while the regular guys are pulled aside and patted down?

Burn in the Fires of Lake Erie, CR!

I’ve hated Michael Vick since before it was cool.

Vick is indeed a THUG, no matter what color his skin is. I have N-E-V-E-R associated the term “thug” with any race.

People of Mr. Vick’s ethnicity are equally qualified to become a “thug,” as any other group. You are the biggest racist on this blog, CR.

The only colors I care about are Falcon Red, Falcon Black and Falcon White.

This is just another example of “I told you so.” but I don’t even have to say it anymore. Vick’s cumulative behavior now speaks for itself.

Go pound sand and wallow in your self righteous, hatemongering anger, CR.

I hope Vick takes you with him when he leaves here.

Hey, Davenpoop-for-brains:

When was the last time Manning was sued for giving a woman herpes?

When was the last time Manning flipped off the home fans?

When was the last time Vick won a playoff game?

We can debate whether pot should be legalized, but the fact of the matter is, at the moment, it is ILLEGAL.

The fact that you’re not the least bit bothered by the fact that Atlanta’s most visible sports figure may be using an illegal drug is just another example of how this country is being “dumbed down” morally.

Atlanta used to be the city too busy to hate. Now it’s the place where the lowest common denominator is not only embraced, but celebrated.

Congratulations.

Hope that was some good weed, ‘cause I can’t express fully how idiotic this move looks…..by the way doubters, they sell these Aquafina bottles w/the secret compartment to hide drugs, u buy em at Insurrection or other “tobacco” shops, no doubt he is guilty, why else would he be carrying the Aquafina bottle, he ain’t hiding money or jewelry in it. Vick is an idiot!! He needs to understand how to be a class act in the NFL, just look at all of the other great players ( P. Manning, LT, T. Brady, W. Dunn, etc.). Yeah sure W. Dunn’s best days are behind him, but he can still teach Michael Vick a thing or two about being a class act. Michael Vick needs to grow up, and until he does this team will suffer, it doesn’t matter who you bring in here as a coach or player. This is something a kid outta college or high school would do and get caught, not a professional athlete. But you know what he doesn’t care about this cause he’s still getting paid, the only people suffering are the fans. I want Michael Vick to succeed, cause that’s what’s best for the team, we’re paying him too much to trade him. And all you guys that want to convert him to a RB are forgetting his fumbling problem. HE JUST NEEDS TO GROW UP, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!!

DO you guys even know why people care about what athletes do off the field?

The younger generations look up to them as heros, mentors, role models, etc. They need to learn that there are people that are idolizing them. Since he is Michael Vick, there are thousands of children just in Atlanta, that are using him as a role model. Who wants their kids to be like that when they grow up?
They see that he, well not just him but others athletes too, do all these things and just get a slap on the wirst. They will grow up to think that it is cool. The NFL needs to think about harsher punsihments for all of the players.

Ive been a Vick supporter. That said…this is crossing the line. He obviously thinks he can get away with whatever he wants, and he can get whatever he wants. Thats not the case. The biggest thing is his stupidity on this…its only a couple hours from Miami to Atlanta, then get all the pot you want!

Of course the prudent thing to do is wait for the investigation to finish. But thats a problem. You let the investigation finish after the draft and its true…Vick loses trade value. You trade Vick before the draft and its true…who cares, you got something for him. You trade Vick before the draft and he is innocent…get ready to watch the falcons on the web because the games arent selling out.

I say think long and hard about this, Blank and co. If youre sick of this crap, trade him now while you can to the Raiders for their #1 and then some. Then Falcons can draft Calvin Johnson, who would sell some tickets (but definately not as many as Vick) and would be a fun draw once he and Schuab get on the same page.

No NFL team that truly wants to win SUPER BOWL trophies wants an “athlete” to run their offense.

Tom Brady is not the athlete Mike Vick is, but Mike Vick is not the QUARTERBACK or respectful human being Tom Brady is.

Doug Williams was not the athlete Mike Vick is, but Mike Vick is not the QUARTERBACK or respectful human being Doug Williams was.

Brett Farve is not the athlete Mike Vick is, but Mike Vick is not the QUARTERBACK or respectful human being Brett Farve is.

I’m sure Vic will get another chump change fine by the NFL and make another public apology to Atlanta and back to business as usual, Vic, the starting QB for the Hotlanta Falcons. I’m glad my kid isn’t a Falcons fan!!! Lets Go Steelers in 07!!!

Like anyone who fail to follow the rules and guidelines set forth by the facilities that’s providing a service. With so many things going on, we all should slow-down observe the rights ways when we travel especially in an airport where so many things can happen. Mr. Vick’s case must be handled like everyone else. A complete investigation and testing and the real-truth about the contents must be a throughly investigated factual finding so that none of us will play the race cards or anyother cards that is readily available. Mr. Vick must know the rules as he travel within the airports. Hopefully, drugs, no matter what it is be his pit-fall.

Vick’s a better Athlete than all these guys too: Brett Favre John Elway Joe Montana Doug Williams Byron Leftwich Donovan McNabb Peyton Manning Tom Brady Steve Young Terry Bradshaw Ken Stabler Dan Fouts Dan Marino Phil Simms Joe Namath

That said, I would take any of these guys listed over Vick at QB every day of the week……

Let me start by saying I am not excusing Michael Vick for this stupid act, but honestly why are we calling him a thug? What has he done that is thuggish? So he gave the middle finger, so what, who has not done that before. He got accused of giving someone and STD, and that is thuggish? Lastly, he tried to get on a plane with a bottle that had a secret compartment, which NO weed in it, just residue. Stupid, but not thuggish. Just a question for us to seriously think about: If this were Matt Schaub, would we still be using the word thug? Just a question. I know people hate bringing up the race issue, but come on. And evrybody that has responded to this issue have never done anything stupid in their life. Gotta love America, especially the south.

For those of you who would think this is a situation which should have been avoided by the media as well as the TSA personnel —- you are obviously less educated than Michael Vick. What he did was the “STUPIDEST” thing anyone can do at a security checkpoint in today’s environment…oh I forgot “HE IS MICHAEL VICK!”

MICHAEL; common sense tells you that if you have something illegal do not raise attention to yourself – regardless to your stature in society. You also has to remember, not all of America puts your accomplishments (not that many from where I stand) on a football field on a pedestal and do not care about your fame.

Now - put yourself in the idle traveler’s shoes. If you saw that he was allowed to process through security with a 20 oz bottle…wouldn’t you think he was receiving preferential treatment? Now, the normal guy would use that instance/situation to argue that everyone should be treated equal.

Finally —- MICHAEL you make approximately $13M per year…that’s six (6) zeros after the 13. Can’t you afford to have a bottle at home and one at your brother’s? That’s assuming you were visiting him. I know it is difficult, but THINK before you do things and if you are not capable…call me and I will help (no charge and I will pay for the long distance phone call).

Mr. Blank,

Here’s your opportunity to rid the Falcons of this embarrassment. Give Schaub a shot at the starting QB position. Vick knows he’s the starter. We don’t need a completed investigation to know how dumb Michael Vick is. Anyone who attempts to take a 20 oz bottle thru security at an airport knowing the limit is 3 oz is DUMB. I don’t have to wait to use common sense. A bottle with a fake compartment is not something you would try to sneak thru security. Normal people don’t need fake bottles. Now is the time for the Falcons to rid themselves of this cancer and save millions of dollars in the process. As for selling tickets, there are probably many folks like me who are more likely to attend a Falcon game IF VICK IS NOT PLAYING. He is a loser, never will be an NFL quarterback.

Forget about the fact that he cannot read defenses, cannot throw accurately, runs at the first sign of trouble, blames teammates for his inability to lead, gives his fans the finger…

It’s not about race, it’s about the ability to lead. There are many, many black football players who are leaders, both on and off the field, and are stand up guys. Unfortunately Vick isn’t one of them. It really does a disservice to the black leaders playing the game today. Vick shouldn’t be grouped with them at all.

Hey Narc,

Maybe you should try reading my previous post. Like I said earlier, it is pretty damn stupid for a guy worth more than some African countries to try to sneak weed onto a plane. I don’t have a problem with him smoking weed, but I do have a problem with him being dumb enough to get caught, especially if it’s going to affect his ability to perform on the field (in other words, if there’s a chance he gets a suspension). He’s gotta know better than to try to sneak weed on a plane, there’s no question. The reason I bring up Peyton Manning is because I read messages from clueless people labeling him a “class act”, when his past speaks to the contrary. You talk about being “dumbed down morally”? Personally, I find dropping your pants in front of a non-consenting girl to be a much worse moral violation than smoking weed. I am an occasional weed smoker — I don’t think I have any problems with my moral values.

If Ricky Williams can get the number of second chances he received, then how do you really think this will effect Vick and his ability of remain the starting QB for the Falcons?

So, can we move on to something of importance like improving the offensive line, receivers and the defense?

Just how many more lives, careers, families, etc. are going to have to be destroyed by the insane War On Drugs.

The government wastes Billions per year, we have more people in prison than any other country in the world including China, and respect for the law is at an all-time low.

Drug dealers and the government are making trillions of dollars off drugs being illegal. Before 1912 everything was legal, and abuse was handled as the medical problem it is, not as the criminal problem we pretend it to be.

Nearly 100 years of failure is enough. Legalization is the only answer.

Michael Vick should win an Oscar for his acting performance here in Atlanta. Everyone knows what a terrible person his brother Marcus is. Do you honestly think Michael is that different??? I don’t have any doubt that the substance was some sort of drug and I hope the NFL and the Falcons suspend him for a significant amount of time.

Apparently Vick has the Falcons and a lot of Atlanta fans fooled about what a great guy he is. Vick is a jerk that couldn’t care less about any fans. The bird flipping incident after the Saints game is a prime example. He also was scheduled for an autograph signing a few months after he was drafted by the Falcons at a Sprint Store in the area. After waiting for 3 hours, we found out that the limo came to pick him up and he refused to leave his room because he simply didn’t want to go. Sprint sent people’s items to be signed by Vick and promised that they would be mailed to everyone. The Sprint store never saw them again…

Vick is a jerk who shouldn’t be in sports. Kids aspiring to be like this guy should be told the real truth about Michael Vick so that they can find another role model. Hopefully Petrino will soon see the value of a guy like Matt Schuab, both on and off the field. Course, we’ve seen how classy Petrino is. 10 year contract? Who cares right? The Falcons need help…

SCREW VICK.

Yes, Arthur needs to wait until the investigation is completed to take any discipline and/or any other action.

This is another instance where the sports figures think that they are above the law and our youth sees this type of behavior as normal, typical, and acceptable by society…they want to emulate these individuals.

I will digress here to address sports figures in general.

Drastic measure need to be taken immediately. First, high school kids need to be refrained from arguing with and using profanity while participating in organized activities…multiple violations should result in expulsion from the game (regardless to the skills the individual possess). Second, colleges should enact the same rules with basketball going back to the days when a file is called against a player they acknowledge by raising their hands. Fighting during pre game and during the game should be dealt with by immediate suspension from the game and video reviewed for possible additional game suspension. Thirdly, if a player touches an official during the game he/she should be immediately suspended for the entire season (w/o pay for professionals).

Owners – when you have a malcontent (i.e. Sprewell, Iverson, Owens (T.O. and the other one) regardless to his talents, you have to agree not to sign him. Sports can be cleaned up but it is going to collectively take the owners to force these players back down to earth! Another option, incentive based contracts which include “actions detrimental to the team and league” with HEAVTY fines…25% or 50% of the salary…guarantee this will keep these athletes in line.

I think its ignorant to say that Mike Vick is a thug because he smokes weed. That is what he had in the airport. Marijuana is made by God, beer is made by man, which do you trust? If Mike Vick had a small amount of marijuana in the off season, so what? Who cares,it doesn’t hurt anybody. All the people who call him a thug are just old. Wake up and realize that almost everybody smokes weed, and the ones who don’t are too scared to try it. Mike Vick is the best thing that happened to this franchise. Jim Mora and more specifically Greg Knapp were the problem. Lets give Vick some time without the West coast trash and see what happens. We are a Southern team and we need to stick to running the ball. Have an identity. Thats what was missing. Anyways, think what you want about Vick, but don’t blame anything on a small amount of marijuana. Free the prisoners, end marijuana prohibition. support norml

vicklover….Are your writing skills really that bad or did you spend all of your time cutting English class with Vick? I don’t care what color his skin is or how much he makes. I want a leader as a QB. It seems like it doesn’t matter what he does, he’s innocent or he’s the target of evil white racists. If he were a MAN, he’d own up to his mistakes rather than throw anyone nearby under the bus.

Oh get off it you bunch of self rightous hypocrites! You cannot convince me that 95% of you out there haven’t tried it and I would bet 40% of you are regular afficinados! I was reading a column last week about whatever happened to the cocky QBs. I remember Joe Nameth and the furor raised over his partying ways, his multiple women, his panty hose ad. It didn’t affect his performance on the field. I remember the stink Jim McMahon caused with a damn headband! It didn’t affect his performance. After the sorry coaching of last year, I might have shot y’all a bird or two also while I was coming off the field. That’s less bad press than brawling with the coaching staff that richly deserved to have their a*******es kicked mid field. Give the man his privacy. I don’t care about his sex life. I don’t care what color he is. I don’t care if he blows smoke. I don’t care how much he makes. Get out there on that field and do what you do! That’s what we get paid to do where we work! Extend our QB the same courtesy. And for those of you hollering “Schaub!”, one word. Voleck.

I don’t think tests on the bottle would take months. That’s just a cover-up. If tests come back positive, no matter how small amount, Vick doesn’t deserve any different treatment than Joe Schmoe that gets caught with the same thing. You or me would’ve been arrested, charged, and then released for a court date. Why treat him any different?

FalconsforLife: The difference is that Vick is the leader. He’s the field general, the face of the franchise. This was the latest in a string of incidents reflecting incredibly bad judgment by a guy who has to make split second decisions for a living. I respect Vick’s abilities, but I’m tired of the baggage. Okay….

Have Coach Petrino tell Mike Vick he can spread his Herpes to Carmen Electra or Paris Hilton IF he can get through an entire 5-minute interview without saying “You know…” more that 10 times or blaming someone else in the organization for his own QB failures.

See, that will both motivate AND challenge our beloved #7.

Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, whose passing improved dramatically over the past two weeks as he completed 66 percent of his passes and threw for seven touchdowns, claims his newfound accuracy came from his decision to throw the ball right-handed. “I just sort of got in the habit of carrying the ball in my left hand, and I just used my right hand for stiff-arming people,” said Vick, who completed a remarkable 20 of 28 passes to his pleasantly stunned receivers in the October 29 game against the Bengal’s. “Do you know, a lot of people mistakenly thought I was left-handed? I guess that’s my fault.” Vick added that his fumble against Cincinnati was due to his not knowing that it was, in fact, legal to carry the ball in both hands. “I have to attribute my new found success to my new aquafina concealer bottle that smuggles my weed”. “It’s just enables me to relax in a hostel environment “expressed Vick.

Michael Vick, famous quarterback and ,now, spokesman for a new hydration product says a new bottled water takes thirst slaking to a new plateau. Vick, who was recently secured as the on-air representative of this new entry into the bottled water wars, says this product will revolutionize what people expect of the water they buy in stores and vending machines. Vick, the quarterback of the hapless Falcons of Atlanta, is spokesman for the Crack H2O water that is becoming increasingly more popular. Crack H2O was, in the beginning, marketed solely to the urban areas, rich in ethnicity. From the inner cities it has spread into suburban grocery stores and convenience stores nationwide. Vick touts it as “intoxicatingly refreshing.” And he says it gives him energy ordinary water just can’t approach. Vick goes so far as to say that this beverage clips the wings given by Red Bull and drowns the partaker in a sea of well being. What he doesn’t disclose is that this libation, for some, has become an obsession. There are reports that some consumers are spending a disproportionate amount of their time consuming this product or shopping for it. Vick maintains that it’s up to the consumer to control their appetite for this product. When further questioning was attempted, Vick gave the finger and walked off.

*Matt Schaub, former University star quarterback and Atlanta Falcons’ draft, was arrested early Saturday morning for reportedly taking part in an assault that took place in the Corner district.

Near 1 a.m., a 19-year-old male stopped a Charlottesville Police officer, claiming he had been assaulted by three people near the Wing Factory restaurant on Elliewood Avenue, according to a police statement.

Though none of the suspects were on the scene when the police officer arrived, Schaub, 23, was identified as one of the assailants and was later arrested. The other suspects fled the scene, The Associated Press reported.*

So let’s put in in perspective. There probably not enough in that hidden compartment for jail time or a felony, so at worse it’s only a small fine and the inconvienence of going back down to appear before a judge. From one perspective, it is only marijuana and not cocaine or heroine. A lot of successful people use marijuana recreationally and still are productive members of society.

From another perspective is he is the Falcons “franchise player” and getting paid quite well for it. He has a whole football franchise and city counting on him. Smoking marijuana is against the rules of the NFL. If this is true, he has let all of them down.

The Cowboys let Quincy Carter go because he failed a test for marijuana. This id because the QB is the key position on a team and you have to have somebody you could count on fo the role. Dallas felt they could no longer trust him.

Vick has violated this trust. I hear a lot of people call Vick a “thug” but I never saw his behavior as thuggish. Sure he got herpes but that could happen to any single guy who comes along the wrong piece of tail. While immateur, the flipping off of fans was not really “thuggish”.

This is the first resemblance of “thug” behavior I have seen from him but like I said, it is only marijuana. It isn’t like he is getting in gunfights at strip clubs like certain NBA players have done.

I say give Vick a second chance but with a very short leash. Have the team test him in between mandatory NFL tests.

If he proves this is a one time thing, forgive him. If he doesn’t, he needs to go because he can’t be counted on. You don’t want him failing an NFL mandatory test right before the playoffs or an important game and getting suspended.

To me it is not about the pot but rather it is against the NFL rules. It is about whether his team and his fans can trust him to be there when they need him the most. Or will he turn into another Ricky Williams who is a great talent but can’t be counted on.

OK, here’s my question:

To keep it real, there are MANY NFL players that smoke weed. It’s true! But they have people that actually HOLDS the weed for them. Or, they have people who will SUPPLY them with weed in various cities. Or they just go without until they get back home.

Now, couldn’t Mike Vick, if weed smoking is so important that you had to go all “MacGyver” with the water bottle, couldn’t you just charter a flight to wherever you were going???

Also, couldn’t you just wait until you get to whatever nightclub you were going to and just let some wayward fan roll up one for you for free? I mean, you are a celebrity… there are people in every nighclub in every city that will gladly want to smoke a joint with your stupid $&%*!

Mike Vick, by virtue of the lack of wins and the way you threw the ONE guy who had your back the ENTIRE season right under the bus (Jim Mora)… plus, by virtue of having a horrible attitude and flipping the bird in the crowd… He is losing A LOT of his loyal fanbase!

If I was Mike Vick, I will buy me a cot and live in the film room at Flowery Branch. I would start throwing balls back and forth to Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, and Ashlie Lelie, and tell my Offensive Line that they could just stay at his house this off-season.

And if I see Mike Vick out on the streets, I will ask him why he isn’t somewhere watching game film, or working on his passing mechanics.

You dumb bird, you think Vick’s an athlete just because he runs the f ball every time he should throw it, then by gawd you otta get yourself a f track star. The big dummy threw it this time when he should have ran. But the real athletes are playing in this week end’s conference championship games, where the QBs will stay in the f* pocket where they belong. Trade that birdbrain Vick to a rugby club like the Highlander Fartin’ Hens.

Brett Favre- Known alcoholic while in Atlanta, Addiction to pain medication in Green Bay. Mark McGuire- Alleged use of Steriods. Michael Vick- Alleged possession of marijuana. These three athletes are/were some of the most exciting to watch and my personal favorites. YOU PEOPLE DISGUST ME! I love sports especially football. I’m a fan on FAVRE and a fan of VICK. My point is that I don’t care what they do in their personal lives, because I don’t live with them. You say they’re not being rolemodels. YOU SHOULD BE YOUR KIDS ROLEMODLE IF YOU WERE WORTH ANYTHING AND IF YOU ARE NOT, LOOK AT YOUR FAILURE AS A PARENT! WOW- You can’t say you’re really surprised can you. First of all…look at his sorry excuse for a brother, (yeah he’s an amazing athlete… but who isn’t in today’s NFL) the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in this case. 2nd, yeah he was quick and fast when he came in to the league, but what about when he’s 35 years old trying to allude players 15 years younger than him. Injury Prone…Bad Chemistry…Inaccurate…fragile…Hot Head…Learn how to speak to the media for once like an intelligent Human Being and not sounding like a crack head straight off the streets…Oh yeah one more thing, our most important player on our franchise (the Quarterback) smokes weed. As I look at this situation, I am GLAD that Mike Vick had this happen to him - and I am a VICK SUPPORTER. Whatever the case (as it proves itself out with All facts and evidence fully disclosed), this is likely the DUMBEST (damn) thing he could have done. So much so, that I beleived that he has truly established a “Me against the world scenario”.
I am truly interested in HOW HE RESPONDS ON THE FIELD (this season). Will he fold? Will he be successful? All of this is yet to be seen. I am also interested to see how those who are posting a lot of these BLOGS respond IF he is successful and flourishes under Petrino this season. Will all be forgotten (after all, with wins, usually comes forgiveness)? Will these BLOG commentors develop convenient amnesia? Or will the team’s success be attributed to some (perhaps ANY) other aspect of the team ala Rex Grossman or Trent Dilfer (of the 2000 Ravens)? I think there are a couple of things to REMIND some people of here: A) Schaub had his OWN issues while visiting his (AND MY) ala mater after a few drinks B) Either people are forgetting or are not old enough to really recall that Brett Favre had some issues with BOTH ALCOHOL and WOMEN while he was here (he has admited as much in interviews)and his being traded revolved around those off field issues - why on EARTH do you think he was such a staunch supporter of Koren Robinson?!! C) Kyle Turley,David Wells, alcholic golfer, John Daly…. Here’s my point: There have been MANY athletes that have had of field issues - why should this have anything to do with Mike Vick’s race or, as some BLOGGERS insist on pointing out or (for those that do not do so) how we view his ON-FIELD performace??? Frankly, there are CEOs whose behavior is just as bad and whose job performance is MUCH worse, but very few people look at them as “overpaid, lazy or dumb” - why is that???? Mike Vick has had 3 full years as a starter (given the injury season, right? Eli Manning has had 3 years as a starter and, by most NFL analyst’s accounts, has regressed - is he also dumb & lazy in his study of film and work ethic? The great Brett Favre, who is now - not so great -refuses to mentor Aaron Rodgers (and has said as much) and although just as crippled (as #7) by lack of support from his cast mates has made VERY bad decisions that have cost his team over the past two years - so, is he considered selfishh? Is he “holding the Packers organization hostage by NOT retiring - and stepping aside to let the team rebuild and (more importantly) RELIEVE THEMSELVES OF HIS CAP NUMBER, which is VERY HIGH??? There are other examples, but one must judge them ALL equally and consistently - IF you are going to judge, that is. Either way - I do NOT condone Mike’s actions at all, however as long as these athletes can stay out of jail for most of practice and the game(s), then…well …. I suppose that in a lot of instances, they are going to live like a lot of MILLIONAIRE 20-somethings - with lots of dollars and very little “SENSE”! Frankly, for my money I do NOT want my children (I have 2) looking up to Mike Vick as a role model or ANY other athlete for that matter. There are a pletora of teachers, sceintists and great people in their professions that do well for all mankind that are the people that I encourage my children to want to be like; in addition to being BETTER (not like) me - as I mostly try to conduct myself in a manner conducive to them being proud that I am their father. If more people thought like this (white and black), then there would always be less emphasis on race and more on performance (regarding the Falcons within this BLOG). I mean, if Adam “Pac-Man” Jones can make bail on Saturday and have 2 interceptions on Sunday, then that makes him a worth while football player (as long as he is not an antogonist in the locker room). Would I want him in my house? LORD NO! But would I want him on my team to shut down T.O. or Terry Glen from eating D. Hall & Allen Rossum ALIVE - YES!!!! What top notch athelete do you know that does not have a “swagger” or some sort of “God-Like” complex (football especially) - this attitude makes these men great for football, but horrible within society. That is why we should be careful in applying real world policy to the world of atheltics; I mean, most of us would be FIRED if our boss even HEARD that we had an illegal substance at the airport, a set of DUI incidents or wrongfully assaulted someone from a competing company at a convention. Let’s see this for what it is: A (DUMB) A*S move by a young guy that has a TON of money; whose world is his oyster - NOT unlike Larry Bird or Hulk Hogan or Dr. J or ANY of these guys!! They are lucky and we are (in most cases) at the very least slightly jealous of what they have.

PS - I like Schaub as a QB and player, but I think he has more value on the trade block now that DJ Shockley is here. I am certain that the best job in ANY football town is the 2nd string QB spot. In going to a new team, it would likely be someone that NEEDS a QB, my thought is Cleveland, and in most instances, those teams have ISSUES in the offensive line. Matt will struggle, as anyone would, behind most of the lines of teams that would take him; thus reducing him from the “next best thing since sliced bread” to an average QB. The Falcon’s O-Line is (right now) pretty bad at pass blocking and although Matt has shown flashes, let’s be clear… he has struggled or been very average at best. Remember, he had ample playing time to defeat the Eagles 2nd stringers with the 1st team and was unable to do so. Vick has made mistakes, but I am anxious to see what he can do behind a truly fortified and decent O-Line and with a DECENT (no more, just at LEAST decent) defense. Tht combination tends to make most QBs look pretty good as professionals; at the very least, it allows them to simply “manage the game and not make mistakes”. You cannot ask a QB to “be a consistent play maker behind a line like the Falcons have had for the past few years; not with THESE receivers. Granted #7 needs to work on his leadership/huddle skills, and a few other things. Hopefully the coaching changes and no-nonsense style of these guys will take care of that with him AND for snapping the other players (offense & defense) into shape, as well. I think it is defintiely worth watching. I am, as I mentioned earlier, in this waaaaaay to long comment, much more interested in how the players (and Mike Vick) as well as the fans respond. Cheers.

As usual, you all have taken the opportunity to make this some type of explosive issue. If the substance found in Miami is indeed pot, the authories and the NFL will handle Mr. Vick. Unfortunately, whose going to handle the people of low character that choose such a time as this to call a person thug or stupid.

I would prefer that Mr. Vick not use pot or any other illegal narcotic, but the rehabilitation centers are full of more people than the “pot” smokers or any other illegal drug. Should we all refer to them as “thugs”.

My suggestion “He who is without sin cast the first stone”.

By Dan

There are more than one issue at stake here. Michael Vick’s possible use of illegal substances is certainly the most important. If not for the Falcon Organization, for Vick himself. Vick and the Falcons can turn themselves around and be a winning franchise again. What is so bad that would turn Vick to illegal substances? Another issue is the lack of judgement at the airport certainly. Perhaps just as important is WHERE did Vick get this bottle? Marijuana concealed in this bottle is one thing. A colored plastic based emplosive is another. This bottle poses a real problem for TSA and other security personnel at Airports all over the USA and the world. Who is manufacturing these bottles? That problem needs to be addressed quickly. Hats off to the TSA and the security personnel at Miami International. They did a super job. Wake up Mike! It may be later than you think.

Mr Blank should demand an explanation from his millon dollar baby. Mr Vick not only owes a full explanation to his employer but the public as well. Whether Mr Vick agrees or not, he is a high profile role model in a very public forum.

Should Mr Vicks actions prove to be negative he should be severly penalized by Mr Blank and entered into a treatment program. Next time he should suffer the same fate as the previous coach.

I’ve suspected for some time that Vick’s failure to develop as a quarterback may have been due to some “personal issues”. It certainly isn’t due to a lack of talent or smarts, though some may question his intelligence if he did, in fact, try to slip some weed on the plane.

He reminds me so much of Quincy Carter at UGA—-the first year, phenomenal; year two, not as sharp; year three, another step backwards. Of course, we learned later that Carter had some substance abuse issues that stunted his development. More of the same here? Time will tell….

I am sure Arthur Blank appreciates the manner in which Vick represents the team. This is another example of a rich athlete thinking he is above the law. Maybe this is one reason why Vick has a hard time running an NFL offense. The drugs have made him STUPID! Good Luck Bobby P, because you are going to need it. I will try not to condemn until all the facts are in but this looks terrible for the Falcons. Of course after his stay in rehab he will be a changed man. Bulls#$t. Find a way to get rid of him and start rebuilding this team with players that are respectabile in thier play and thier personal lives. I believe everyone deserves a second chance but this is far from his second incident. Vick is not mature enough to be an Atlanta Falcon or an NFL quarterback. How many kids out there want to be like Mike?

By NCR

January 18, 2007 01:44 PM | Link to this

Let’s get real folks. Arthur Blank is a businessman, first and foremost, and an NFL fan second. UNDERSTAND THIS. Nothing is going to happen to Mike Vick (assuming they don’t find a kilo stashed somewhere up his azz!).

Nothing, nothing, nothing. He’ll be your Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback for the 2007 season. As long as the Dome still sells out, and they still have people wanting to pay for tickets, and they still have a waiting list for season tickets, then NOTHING is going to happen to Vick. No trades, no benching, no nothing.

Black Atlanta (and to some degree white Atlanta) still loves their favorite son, and they can tolerate his misbehavings, AS LONG AS THE FALCONS KEEP WINNING OR GO .500. Yeah, you’ve got a vocal minority on these blogs, but this stuff will blow over in the next few weeks/months and will be long forgotten if the Falcons start off 3-0 next year.

Now, if they go under .500 again next season, then I think you can start to see the paint peeling off the wall. Even then, it would take 2-3 seasons of .500 ball to get rid of Mick Vick realistically. Be realistic!

Dumb, dumb, dumb. I have supported and defended MV7 time and time again, but this is inexcusable. As the leader of this team, dude needs to grow up, cut the hair, and be professional. He has an opputunity most never have and he’s pizzing it away for what? How are his teammates supposed to respect him after this. I know Blank’s head has got to be hurting, I know mine is. This is not becoming of a guy that’s supposed to be the face of the franchise. A water bottle with a secret compartment? Now there is no telling what has been going on with him and you’d be hard-pressed to believe him when he says anything now. Hopefully, he’ll be embarrassed enough to get help and leave the dope alone because that’s all it’s going to make him- a dope. Two interesting things happened at Flowery Branch yesterday. Mike Vick flew in to meet with Petrino but that meeting did not take place. Why? I can’t say for certain but I suspect it was due to Vick’s being late. He, apparently, is on mofo time. Also, Vick did not mention anything to the Falcons’ hierarchy about the incident in the Miami airport. The Falcons were advised of Vick’s suspicious behavior late Wednesday evening. If he has nothing to hide why is he keeping knowledge of the incident from the employer who pays him so well? It’s time to be rid of this non- productive distraction!

Will this latest example of moronic behavior be the trigger for Blank and McKay to actively look for a Vick trade? Reading these blogs you see a great deal of emotion both pro and con. That’s not what’s needed now.

What’s needed is a businesslike, professional, calculating analysis of what will make this team better. They’ve already taken the positive step to replace Mora and his coordinators. If I’m Petrino, I certainly make my opinion known to Blank/McKay that the QB spot is not Vick’s automatically because quite frankly his off-field antics are a cancer on him, the team, owner, GM and fans.

So….what do they do? After 6 years, we’ve seen the best MV is gonna give us, and while at times he’s spectacular, MOST of the time he’s pedestrian (and I don’t mean just because his running far excedes his passing). There are many teams, who would kill to get MV, although this latest pot episode narrowed the field a bit.

Al Davis of the Raiders would take Vick just to see him throw bombs to Randy Moss - it would make them better and put butts in the seats. They happen to hold the 1st pick in the draft, and while the pundits would say the Falcons should get more than that in return, I’m sure the Raiders would part with a starter(s) filling a Falcon need just to create cap space to bring Vick in.

The experiment with a 5’11”, side-arm throwing QB who can’t read defenses, make audibles (no way he’ll be able to run petrino’s scheme effectively), stay out of trouble, make mature decisions, and be ANY kind of a team leader is OVER!! We all know that he’s just one more scramble away from getting seriously injured - then we’ll have a huge portion of our salary cap not wearing shoulder pads on Sundays.

Arthur & Rich….make the right decision for everybody, including by the way, Michael Vick - he needs a new start.

Since Mr. Blank has already hired a new coach to see if Michael Vick is a real NFL QB, it would be worth the opportunity to let it be known to Atlanta and the NFL organization. However, if he is guility of possession of marijuana, I would do random test on him to make certain he is clean while playing this season. After all, the high is only good for a couple of hours.

Who cares. Our country has given Pakistan 4.5 billion to help fight terrorism though they have no intention of doing so. No one talks about this. Who cares what that man does to himself. He is a football player not a politician, he is supposed to do drugs. Look at the 70s Steeler team. And all this calling people “Thug” for doing something stupid.

Is Pat O’Brien a thug? Is Bill Goldberg a thug(forgot about that didn’t you)? Josh Mallard? I am a white male, do not listen to v103 and am a realist. Wake up America.

The new Michael Vick Edition Nike will have a secret compartment. How does Nike like their spokesman today? AirTran? Arthur? We soon will know what kind of man Arthur is. Is he an enabler or a man of principle? Mora must be laughing right about now. Maybe Vick is more than a coach killer. Could he be a franchise killer?

Stupid has nothing to do with wealth or color. (See George Bush, Mike Vick).

By John

January 18, 2007 01:59 PM | Link to this

Michael Vick is nickel-and-diming himself and the Falcons organization to death with this latest-in-a-series of middling offenses.

In chronological order we have the public airing of his sexual pecadillos, then answering for the behaviour of his wayward sibling; his endearing one-fingered salute for the disgruntled home folks and now this: allegedly caught with a stash bottle by airport security.

Life should be great for Vick. He’s gifted, wealthy beyond measure and one of the NFL’s marquee players. He was a genuine hero in his adopted hometown of Atlanta. A guy who never had to wait for the best table in the restaurant or pay for his beer. A guy, no doubt, who an enthralled traffic cop just might let slide with a warning for a minor violation.

As it turns out, life is a little more complicated than that for Michael. He’s also black and he’s hip-hop through and through. Apparently these traits matter a great deal to some people. Apparently these traits make Mike the poster boy for all many in Atlanta fear and despise. “Affirmative Action” is brought up on a sports blog about the home team’s QB? I kid you not. Check a previous post to this blog.

What we have here is a polarizing issue in the form of a guy who needs to prove himself to his employer, his teammates and the paying customers. What we have here is a guy, who based on his pattern of behaviour, may not yet realize that. It’s time he did.

Forget the yokels, Micheal Vick. They’ll cheer you if you win but they’ll still see you only one way. And your first miscue will always elicit from them the expected “typical” response.

Straighten up for the right reasons. You’re generously compensated. Like it or not, in consideration for the big bucks, you are expected to generate positive PR. Like it or not, that means your continued development into what you’re expected to be, an NFL quarterback.

Represent yourself, your family, your employer and your team with dignity and discipline.

Mike, your thirty yard scampers through a petrified defense ain’t as charming as they were three years ago. Grow up a little.

Best of luck to you.

So what? Marijuana should be legalized anyway. Who cares that he smokes pot? The only thing that should matter is whether he is smoking on the field with his passing and running. Let him light up on the sidelines. Maybe that’ll make him play better. He’s probably just gotten used to being high while playing Madden and the real thing on Sunday just isn’t as fun as what happens at his crib.

OK - help me to understand this. why wasn’t vick at least detained for questioning? how was he allowed to get on that airplane after acting suspiciously, and getting caught in the act of throwing away a water bottle that contained drugs? most of us would have gotten arrested on the spot. I won’t even go into how stupid vick was or how now I have a strong belief that he may have been high in at least some of those games we watched this season. So my question remains……why wasn’t he at least detained for questioning?

To any and all people playing the race card(black or white):

Did you ever stop to think that the reason why people are frustrated with Michael Vick could have more to do with the fact that a) he’s clearly and idiot, b) he’s the highest paid player in the league and he does not produce results anywhere near commensurate with that, and that it may have absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin?

Just thought you might like to know.

By the way, if someone offered me a job that paid in the neighborhood 13 mil a year with the condition that I had to quit smoking weed, somehow I think I could make that work…

“How should Vick’s situation be handled?” Just like the others ones that they handle. I think that the problem here is that many believe there is a different standard of law for those who make plenty cheese or are of a certain ethnicity or are very easy to look at … and unfortunately, these beliefs prove themselves to be true often times. Evenmore so, those who don’t like him will use anything against him. Keep in mind that Schaub had some legal issues himself not to long ago. To answer the question though, I say he should be treated like everyone else who gets tangled in the same situation. Anything that has to be sent to the lab is trace and is personal use and will be pleaded down to almost nothing if not dismissed with some high paid legal rangling. Maybe he uses a little incense to get his mind right. If you or I got caught with personal use residue, we would not go to jail or loose our jobs or make the evening news. He plays ball and I am my sons’ father and Santi Clause don’t put up with this b****** everyday to put all those toys under the tree every year that they don’t even play with anymore and we ain’t even out of January yet ….. but I digress.

To Atlanta Falcons/ Arthur Blank, Question: Do you beleive this incident would of happened to P Manning, T Brady, D Brees, C Palmer, B Rothlisberger, J Garcia, D Mcnabb, T Green, M Bulger, or say M Schaub? The answer is NO, because they are all true leaders of their respective football teams, Shaub isn’t a starter yet, but I guarantee you he would not try to sneak his dope through the airport. I would also guarantee he chooses not to use dope, unlike your starting QB now. You will find out soon enough that it was in fact marijuana, or maybe worse. Why would anyone carry a mock water bottle? To store his money? Yeah that is where you should put your money. M Vick is a THUG like his brother. He is only a shade better than Marcus. There is a place in Canada for M Vick, The CCFL-Canabis Canada Football League. He would do really well there, and noone cares what your drug preference is. Arthur, please do something about getting your Atlanta Falcons/ and fans a Quarterback that is both a leader on and off the field. M Vick is not this guy. What he is, is a Coach Killer, thank goodness our new coach has the right to pull out the carpet on this THUG or you(Arthur)would be firing Mr. Petrino soon, and I think you hired a good coach and he seems to be putting together a good coaching staff. Please do the right thing. Thanks, Greg S.

First of all TSA is a joke. They don’t carry as muchas a can of pepper spray. If somone really wanted to board a plane with a weapon TSA would be among the first people killed. Secondly, define “us”. Some people can walk through a busy airport drinking liquor from the bottle while they walkand nothing is said (aka old white business men and pilots) and some people get their luggage “randomly screened” three times and followed through the gift shop simply by the clothes they wear or the color of their skin. Third and most importantly, I would love to hear all the “fan” support when Vick is not playing and that bum on the bench is put in the line of fire from opposing defenses blitzing one of the saddest collection of offense linemen in the history of football.

Wow… you guys are helping Arthur and I out a lot on which direction we should go with Mike. The Falcon Homepage Fan Message board is lighting it up with “trade this immature, gangster rap wannabe, piece of c$$%%.

Below is one of my favorites:

Mike Vick is an immature pot smoker of inadequate intelligence, a poor work ethic, and, worse of all, little desire, effort or willingness to get better. This is what pot can do to you. One of the worst consequences of using marijuana is lethargy and apathy. You can see this is Vick’s demeanor, his actions and his appearance. This explains the aloofness on the sidelines when he’s not on the field. This explains the well known lack of effort in the off season and in the film room. This explains the gradually degenerative “Hip Hop” looking appearance by a soon to be 27 year old man (immaturity).

Arthur Blank holds some responsibility by awarding this guy 130 million. Now is his chance to get it back by hopefully having something in his contract about “conduct detrimental to the team.”

It’s time to get Mike Vick some help.

It’s also time to be thinking about our future at QB.

I can tell you this Mr. Blank, if this is not handled properly, I am a 17 year season ticket holder who will not renew and expose his family to drug users on the field. It’s already bad enough walking around the Georgia Dome watching the nonsense going on throughout this place.

Take a real close look at the final four teams left this season: Classy head coaches, classy quarterbacks and classy teams. There is no “TO,” Michael Irvine, Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, Vick, or any other Murderers, drug dealers, drug users, and thugs on these teams.

Then we have the Atlanta Falcon’s starting quarterback!

Color has nothing to do with Mike Vick’s performance. Vick can run, but he cannot pass. QB’s should be able to pass the darn ball. We keep blaming the WR’s who have kept quiet. Look as Mr. Vick’s QB rating. It sucks. I care less how much a player makes, as long as it is earned. Mr. Vick has yet to earn what he is being paid. Yes, he ran for over a 1,000 yards. But passed for less than 2,500 yards. All four QB’s in the AFC and NFC Championship games have over 3,000 yards passing. Running the ball is great, but when all a team has to do is defend against the run, your going to get beat and beat bad. You have got to pass and run, not just run.

Say what you want about MV being a role model, but to me, football is about winning and losing, and under Mike Vick, the FALCONS ARE MEDIOCRE AT BEST. Jim Mora lost his job because of the mediocrity…and because he opened his idiot mouth and said idiot things at the wrong time. MV may be an extraordinary athlete, but he isn’t an NFL quarterback, and he is NOT a winner. And now, AGAIN, he is an embarrassment and a distraction to the team. Mr. Blank, you let your CEO walk away with $210 million after f*ing up. Why not let MV go the same route, and call it a very bad year?

I’ll start out by saying that I am a black man and I am accustomed to racism in the world. That being said, if you are caught with narcotics, racism is not the card to play. You might be able to play the “I’m an addict” card or the “I have a disease” card or even the often used “I have glaucoma” card, but not the race card. Mr. Mexico is supposed to be the leader of your franchise( I am a Steeler fan!!)but he acts like a follower most of the time. Mistakes like this really show how dumb he is. You would think that if he wanted to smoke week that bad that he would just charter a private jet or that he could just wait until he landed here to make his purchase. Matt Shaub is the backup for a reason, he just isnt better than Mexico. Did you guys forget Doug Johnson? I think you should bring in another QB or get one in the draft. And for all of you on the blog that says that Vick is a role model for their children that should be YOUR job.

Schaub lovers - exactly how many wins has Matt Schaub gotten for the Falcons??

Matt Schaub arrested for assault - no blog talking about getting rid of him. Are you calling him a “THUG”? Are you talking about how he was an embarrassment to this team? HIS PLAY ON THE FIELD WAS EMBARASSMENT ENOUGH.

I wish that all of you racist bloggers would reserve your comments about Vick for the Klan rally.

And for you IDIOTS that don’t realize that getting rid of Vick would be a detriment for the team…HE HAS GUARANTEED MONEY!!! He has filled the dome every season he has been here and makes tons of money for the franchise, as well as, the NFL.

All of this is about him being a successful black male with more money that you could ever dream of……

He was and still is a pretty good 2B however I will add that in. Up to this point I do not believe he has ever been associated with crime, breaking laws, spearding STD’s, fathering children to mulitply women, posted nude pics of girls on his webpage, has a criminal brother, runs with a posse, dresses and acts like a gangster in public, has trouble talking in public clearly, did not gradute college, gave the fans of the Braves a big finger, is seen in hip hop clubs at 4:00am partying during the season, had a vehical registered in his name with drugs found in it…. should i go on.. or are you brain cells firing yet.

It gets old being called a racist just b/c I think Mike Vick is a terrible QB and leader.

Mike Vick is a redneck. So is Brett Favre; word is in Kiln, MS wherer he grew up his daddy has to pay all his bar tabs when he goes home b/c Brett has no class. Chipper Jones is a redneck that’s grown up and learned a bit about other cultures besides the redneck culture. Steve McNair - not a redneck, just a good ol’ country boy.

Ever seen a chinese redneck? They exist, along with black rednecks, white trash rednecks, the N word, Whiggers, Ghetto, call it whatever u like, they all mean the same thing. My point? These words above describe a culture, not a color……I criticize Mike Vick b/c he is a redneck, stuck in his redneck culture and unwilling to grow up and learn from his mistakes. He is a poor quarterback b/c of these cultural traits and not b/c he is a black man……do some reading on your own and check this stuff out. One final note to all you “South Haters”, calling all of us racists down here……the only city where the civil rights movement didnt succeed under MLK is NOT in the south; MLK said, “I have been to Selma, Montgomery and Birmingham, but I have never been more scared for my life and subjected to more racism than I was in the city of……” look it up for yourself if u wanna know the city, u haters will hopefully learn a thing or two abt the North and the South…….

there was a line from the ‘70’s novel North Dallas Forty by ex- cowboy Pete Gent (whose writing implied bigtime drug use by players of that generation) that applies here: “if you owned a prize bull and he broke out of his pen and S**t in the front yard, would you shoot him? No, you’d fix the pen, put him back in it and clean up the mess”… trade him because of this? sure, i don’t think MV will ever be the president’s spokesperson on youth sports, but this doesn’t make him public enemy #1.

Listen, I’m not worried about the pot. I personally think it should be legal. It’s the fact that Vick should have known better than to try to take a bottle of liquid on a plane with today’s security. Then when asked to dispose of the bottle he doesn’t want to toss it. That will automatically raise suspicion with the guards. Thats the basic problem, Vick seems to either lack common sense or he is arrogant beyond belief. Common man you have a 130 million dollar contract. Happily toss the $15 dollar novelty bottle and your small amount of ganja and no one would have been the wiser. Hopefully this will be a wake up call and Petrino can steer the sinking Falcon ship to the playoff next year.

Let me take a second to educate you, you probably have a Georgia education because your not very bright. Vick is a complete idiot and this incident only continues the long list of stupid/dumb things he did. The fact he is a multi millionare does not mean he is smart. It does hoever mean he managed to find someone dumber then he is in Mr Blank.

Ability doesn’t win football games. Neither does running the ball when your a QB. If the foulcoon fans were more educated they would realize that Brady doesnt more then 1000 rushing yards in his entire CAREER. He will however probably have his 4th ring in a month or so. First DirtDobber: Thug comes from the Hindu word “thuggee.” The members of the organization were reputed to imbibe hashish (raw heroin) before they strangled their victims. Technically, you can’t call Vick a thuggee. Over time, the word thug has come to mean a member of a violent underground who robs people. Some people feel the derogatory term fits certain individuals.

Second: What if the person who threw away the bottle with “some dark particulates” was a swarthy, olive-skinned individual who spoke English with an Aribic accent. Would he have been allowed to get on his plane? Would this conversation even be occurring?

In reading about the scolding Mr. Vick received, I note that Mr. McKay doesn’t think there is a problematic pattern of behavior. I wonder what would constitute a pattern, once a week, once a month, three or four should be enough. I suppose Mr. Blank explained to Mr. Vick that since he was a naughty boy, should he injure himself in the future, he will have to roll his own wheelchair and Coach Petrino is probably wondering if it is too late to pull a Sabin. One player can’t make a team, but one can sure as hell ruin a team, and that seems to be one thing Mr. Vick can succeed at.

Trade Vick while He still has some value left. It’s better to start over with a new coach and a new system. Vick has already ran 2 coaches out of Atlanta, let’s not have this continue to be a trend. Look at New Orleans, they went through more than any other city, have a new coach, and a 50% turnover in players, and they are 1 game for where ALL FALCON fans want to be. Sometimes you have to startover, and I think The Falcons should dump Vick NOW!

Vick haters have fun. He brought it on himself. I hate that. There’s hardly any defense for him. Those of you who have been waiting for something good like this to happen to Vick. (this is good to the haters) You win. Just remember when he’s gone it will come back to hunt us big time. He’s a much better QB than most of you think. Just like his former coach, he has more growing up to do. No matter what you say, right now Vick is a top ten QB. Out of 32 starters that’s not bad. In fact that’s pretty good. So if you trade him, please trade him to a division we don’t have to meet every year. I know he’ll tear us apart just on instinct. I know at some point you must not shoot yourself in foot all the time. Vick, I love you, I think you’re a wonderful QB, but you keep giving the haters the edge. I’m not abandoning you; I’m just keeping it real. However, I will be in Canton on the day you’re inducted. Peace.
